When I'm watching any HDR10 content in landscape on the YouTube app, the display brightness goes haywire and continually goes all the way up and down by itself. It only acts like this when viewing full screen. It does this on both vanced YouTube and the regular app but not when playing directly through the YouTube website. I turned auto brightness off and it still does this. Does anyone else experience the same problem? I own the L29 btw

Thank you! Working great now It didn't have any option besides a codec override toggle. No S8+ or pixel choices but it still solved the problem. Thanks again

I've got a problem with my Honor 8 Pro (EMUI 5.1, Android 7.0).
Whenever I play a video fullscreen on YouTube, I notice the brightness of the screen increasing. After I leave the fullscreen mode the brightness doesn't change unless I close the app.
Black colors look washed out thanks to this and watching dark videos is problematic. Anyone else with the same issue?
I which fw version you are?I dont have that problem.Try update phone to latest B188.

I have all updates installed
Did you try to repair software via Hisuite or reset to factory settings including erasing all files from memory?Really strange problem.
I have this same issue on Emui8 .. Besides Amazon prime video
Every single app turns the contrast weirdly high and the black colors are not black anymore.. Awkwardly enough I have to constantly keep a finger on the screen to view a video normally in MXplayer.
Hi,
YouTube HDR has just stopped working for me. I can still select the resolution + HDR for a compatible video, but the brightness no longer automatically jumps to maximum to cater for the larger dynamic range. It was working right up until yesterday, and doesn't seem to correspond with a YouTube update, either. It's like Android isn't detected the HDR source even though it's selected, and so HDR videos are flat and lifeless.
Has this happened to anybody else?

Using the no root youtube vanced app from here on XDA this isn't an issue if suggest migrating to it yourself just so you don't have ads if nothing else it and there is a black themed one if you're interested in slight battery savings

How can I check if HDR is working or not?

Press the 3 dots and when you press on resolution you should have a hdr option near the bottom of the list if it's a hdr video

That did the trick, thank you. I wonder why the official app just stops working.

I think it's important to note that although HDR may be selected (like in my case), it may not necessarily work. You'll know if it's worked for sure when the screen brightness automatically sets to maximum. Now, bright parts of the video such as lights will stand out more in contrast to the dark sections, adding overall realism to the picture. I personally think it's great, and can't wait to get an HDR OLED TV.
Hi, can anyone with android 10 (QDLMIXM) please try this?
1) Play a Youtube video in 720 or 1080p (I use the Vanced app but this isn't even youtube specific afaik, just very clear to see!)
2) NOT FULLSCREEN video (fullscreen seems ok)
3) Adjust the volume and observe video.
Does video playback stay smooth while volume overlay is on screen?
Mine is jerky as hell and I want to know if it's worth trying reset etc before i roll back to 9, which sounds a right pain.
I tried disabling HW GUI in overlay options and that makes things slow all the time, so worse.
This seems related to all the slowdown issues i'm having with 10, with most apps. It's awful!
Makes even typing difficult. Phone ruined basically. Same for everyone or just me?

I tried this just now and it didn't stutter or stop at any point. Video playback and sound stayed smooth as ever on 1080p in the official YouTube app.

Thank you. Right, seemsi've got something messed up with my phone then, might be worth a full reset unless anyone has better ideas what it could be please?
Shame because this is really only issue i've got with 10 (so far...). Thanks for trying that.
This is quite sad. I have the same issues on YouTube (both official and vanced), and severe lag on Reddit, Messenger and Discord, along with Gboard which has killed my typing experience. Nothing but pain on this phone recently.
I use YouTube vanced, I was scrolling through YouTube shorts and I came across this one short that turns up my phones brightness to 100% (brightness slider doesn't change). I watched that video from history it didn't change brightness. I also checked from another phone, didn't change brightness. So it's only while watching from YouTube shorts.
I'm just interested if anyone else ever came across something like this?
Are you using YouTube Vanced + MicroG or the rooted version?

Me too have the same issue. Haven't find any solution yet
Can you share the link YouTube you have it? So I can compare with a different device.
Hello, I have a xiaomi poco f3 and experienced something similar but worse (youtube videos showing weird pixels and colors or noise like display at parts of the video, like a broken tv signal). I tried moving from miui 14 to a custom pixel OS but it did not solve the issue. Another thing I experienced is that 240p and below it was working flawlessly, anything above and I'd get the glitches. Likewise, other platforms like twitch.tv worked perfectly. Trying revanced youtube, root version or not, did not work for me. I pinpointed the problem to the vp9 codec, which is used by youtube videos when setting resolution above 240p. The following things worked for me:
a) Whats your refresh rate? Try setting it at 120hz at all times (other options like setting it automatically or per app won't do, for my pixelOS, it was "force peak refresh rate" in Display settings). This solution worked for me globally, including the youtube app, but increases battery consumption.
b) Browser only solution, that works without forcing max refresh rate at all times (and thus saving battery): use the enhanced-h264ify extension, available for android only for kiwi browser, afaik. There, in the addon options, block vp8, vp9 and av1 (iirc they all came pre checked)
