I brought a pixel 3 xl from bestbuy (verizon) and activated my phone 3 days ago but haven't received the "sim unlock" notification. Does it mean the phone is already sim unlocked? How do i verify without another sim card other than the one comes with pixel 3 xl? Thanks.
Yes, all Verizon phones come unlocked due to a deal made with the FCC. Try any SIM and it will work. Tested on my own Pixel 3 XL with a TMobile SIM.

Verizon turned off the SiM locking they had on the 3s for awhile. Probalby too much bad press. So when you got it, it was already unlocked and you won't see the message.

yepp.. they did implement a sim locking feature however.. they did it to reduce fraud according to big red..
you probably wouldnt notice though.. from what i read its sim locked until its activated on the verizon network at which it then unlocks..
i am not sure if the pixels are like this or not but my s9+, tab s4 and note 9 took a few days..
my p3xl came with the esim preconfigured for my vzw acct as well as a sim card.. i accidentally reset and cleared the esim lol.. good thing the sim card still worked haha
i have tried a sprint sim and att sim in my p3xl, both worked with no hassle

I have a google pixel XL verizon 32gb version. I have unlocked it using depixel. Flashed a stock image over the verizon one. I even rooted it. I STILL can't get my phone to recognized my TMOBILE sim card. Any help will greatly be appreciated. I feel like i need to return this phone and get a google version. Thanks guys. My understanding is if you unlock it I can use it on any carrier...or is there a difference with sim unlocking?
I've been searching the threads and trying all sorts of things.

You have confused bootloader unlocking with SIM unlocking. Apples and oranges. Your VZW XL is SIM unlocked, just like the Google Store version. Unlocking your bootloader has no affect on using your TMobile SIM. You probably need to have a discussion with your carrier...
Did you get the phone brand new, or used? If used, are you sure it isn't blacklisted?
Yeah, check the imei. Swappa.com has a check tool. I have the same setup as you but mi e worked right away.

Verizon phones ALREADY comes network / carrier sim UNLOCKED. By default they can be used on any compatible carrier without doing anything other than simply popping in that carrier's sim into the phone.
Do not confuse this is BOOTLOADER unlock which has more to do with being able to root ect, it has absolutely nothing to do with being able to use another network's sim.
Does the phone recognise the Verizon or any other carrier's sim? If not your sim tray/mechanism may be bad and you need a replacement phone.
His phone is probably been blacklisted, my brother can't wait for delivery with Google store... He went to Verizon and 32gig 5inch and pop in t-mobile simply and it works fine.

File an issue with PayPal. "Device Significantly Not As Described". It may take 4 to 6 weeks, but you will definitely get your money back.
I couldn't find an exact answer to this so i thought I'd ask. I ordered the carrier unlocked pixel 2 xl and i finally receive it today. I plan on unlocking bootloader and root down the line.
My question is, if i put my Verizon sim from my other phone into my new pixel 2 xl before unlocking the bootloader will that cause it to lock up? Will i be able to unlock the bootloader after i put the Verizon sim in?
Sorry if this has been answered but i would hate it if i buy the unlocked version just to finally get the phone and lock it up.

You shouldn't have any issues. It's only the Verizon version you need to worry about.

I'm in the same boat, but I don't think anything will happen because it's a Google version. Still waiting for mine to come in.

Only the Verizon version phone will have issues with bootloader. You can unlock the "Google" version before or after you activate Verizon service and it won't make a difference.
Mine still shows that I can unlock the bootloader. The Verizon version shows it greyed out, mine is not still. My phone DID install my Verizon by itself though... Nothing else though thankfully.

You can just toggle it from the dev options? You don't need to fastboot?

No, you still need fastboot. I haven't done mine yet, but I believe you toggle it first in dev options, then do fastboot. There are guides here to help you FYI.
I wouldn't put in the sim card, just connect the phone to wifi and should work that way. I got the google version, and mine was greyed out because of no internet connection. So I just hooked it up to wifi and the oem unlock wasnt greyed out.

Yeah, I booted mine w/o the sim first, did the setup and got it on my WiFi. I checked the dev options and all that first too. Then popped in the sim and rebooted it. Probably overkill, but yeah, I'm not messing around with this locked bootloader crap.

I learned the hard way with the OG Pixel XL. Screwed myself by not unlocking and upgrading as Ota updates came out lol. Not doing that again. I only really looked into rooting when my battery life began declining. [emoji854] now I'm taking all preventative measurements haha

I unlocked mine last night no problem. Google store version, just switched sim card from my pixel XL.

No it was never unlocked or rooted. I was saying I should've. But my dumb a$$ updated the phone then I realized I shouldn't have because my battery got worse and I should've rooted while I could.

Got my Pixel 2XL, first thing I did was boot it up before putting the vzn sim in, connected to wifi then oem unlock allowed me to toggle, slide it to unlock. Put my vzn sim in. Didn't have time to fastboot and unlock. So about 2 days later I plugged it up to my computer and unlocked the bootloader, no problem. [emoji106]

Those of you with VVM have any problems?
Dumb question probably, but I have never used Verizon. And will I be able to change to an ATT sim whenever I want to?
Also will tying up the IMEI with Verizon effect the return of the ph within my 15 days?

You can activate it with a Verizon sim and be able to change networks without any problems. I haven't tried it with this phone but with my Nexus 6P I was able to swap sims from Verizon to other carriers and back again without issues. The Pixel 2 XL is unlocked also so I don't see why it would be any different. As long as you bought it from the Google store or through Project Fi you will be able to return it within your 15 days. They have a record of your IMEI number and it will not change.

Thanks for the reply. Where I live is a hole for ATT and I thought I would try Verizon, although I prefer the less expensive GSM MVNO's.
Be warned that if you select the "Unlocked" version from the Google store you may not be able to use it on the Verizon network unless you go directly to Verizon. My MVNO (StraightTalk) says my IMEI is not authorized and I ended up having to switch to their ATT SIM.

I owned a unlocked pixel xl bought from the Google store. All I did was switch the into it last fall and it worked fine. Then I did the same exact thing with my pixel 2 xl with no issues when it arrived last week.

Guess your MVNO was nicer and went through the trouble of authorizing it for you. Wish mine would of done that for me.
Stupid question, but just want to make sure I'm good. Verizon tried to pull one on me with the original pixel.
On the Gstore there is an unlocked version and a Verizon one. But I can just buy the Google unlocked version instead, and pop in the Sim from my pixel XL?
Yes. I bought mine from Google, popped in my SIM from my Moto X Pure. The phone works. I just registered the phone as a non VZ 2XL (I had to call them, for some reason, I couldn't do it online).

Register it for what? When I bought my pixel, I just had them activate the sim for my n6 and transferred that sim. No problems after that

I have the google version 2 xl on vzw. Everything works. Hd calling, wifi calling (can be set to preferred and used with cell radio off)
I plan to buy a good price refurb pixel 2 xl from ebay. Just googled and found back-and-forth sim lock policy about Verizon phone (saw that from some time in 2018, they sim locked all phone and require staying on the network for some amount of days but doesnt apply to Pixel3???).
I know that Pixel2 XL was not affected when it first came out, but im not sure if this policy has been applied backwardly to unsold device in-stock or not.
I believe it has to do with which Android version and which bootloader the device is running.

If it's a Verizon P2XL, unless you don't care about root or customization it's best to stay away. Verizon models have a locked bootloader and no one has yet been able to bypass the bootloader lock.
Confirm with the seller which P2XL this is before taking the plunge.
I'm not sure how it happened for me but I bought my 2XL October of 2017 and I could unlock the bootloader via OEM Unlocking. I got it from a Verizon store. Not sure how that is possible but it worked. Everything I've read says they're locked though

Plain and simple.....you got lucky and likely got a google variant phone by mistake. Just be thankful
No it will be Sim unlocked but will be bootloader locked which won't affect your ability to use the phone on another GSM carrier.
