We just added an S9 to the family, and I noticed that after receiving notifications, they don't all fully "expand" automatically when I pull down the notification shade, you have to press the little down arrow to expand them. Is this an Oreo thing? it does not happen on my S8 (Android 7) I see all of them expanded.
When I pull down the shade I would like to see them all without user intervention.
Am I overlooking something?
Yes this happens. But only for system related settings and notifications that stay on top. But got 3rd party apps it doesn't happen.

But as you can see in the picture, it is happening on a third party app called Battery HD...
The system ones I don't care about to much
You can try this to adjust the info shown. Settings-apps-the specific apps- notifications then change the level of importance.

Hello everyone
I've switched from CM7 on my old Nexus One to Galaxy Nexus and CM9, which was updated later to CM10.
I know everyone will tell me I've done a wrong thing, but I restored my whole phone apps/configuration from my old phone using TitaniumBackup: I have to say except for 1-2 apps, it worked just as I wished.
After few days of CM10 and watching other phones around me, I found out that Enhanced Notifications are already enabled in the nightlies, but they seem to be disabled on mine!
At this point I'm looking for some advice for enabling this feature. For sure, factory reset is the fastest option, but I will forget about the enhanced notifications rather than going through the whole factory reset thing.
I really don't need the full instructions here. A very brief hint can do the trick for me.
Thanks
Is it a specific to any one app or all of them? Because not many apps actually support enhanced notifications yet. Gmail is one that does.

Honestly, I never had the enhancements on my phone, so I don't know for sure on which apps they should appear.
Gmail gives long notifications (some content of the email), but no buttons. I think this is it for now.
But for missed calls for example, there should be some buttons, which are missing.
You mean the issue refers to phone app? nice idea. but I don't know whether phone app is not sending them, or notification bar doesn't receive.
Can you introduce me some app with the same feature support, so I can test?

Gmail isn't supposed to have buttons, just long message preview. The expanded notifications aren't always expanded. Drag down on it with 2 fingers. It should have buttons for a missed call.
Easiest way to check expandable notifications is to take a screenshot.
It's a huge shame for me that I didn't know this double finger trick.
thanks a lot

By the way: the notifications are never expanded on my phone. How can I change the default settings?

I think it just depends on if you've got other notifications already showing. If you've got none it should default to expanded.
I have heard about this bug on many LG phones updated to 5.0+, and I can't for the life of me figure out why LG hasn't fixed this yet. It wasn't until recently that I was able to figure out a "fix" to expand notifications in the pull-down shade. If this was already posted, I apologize but I never saw anything about it.
When you pull down your notification shade, you can't expand notifications. However if you slide up on the quick toggles to make them disappear but your notifications stay, you can now pull down on the notifications to expand them! This worked on my Verizon G4, let me know if it works on other models as well.
Not broken or a bug, just poorly implemented. The problem is the quick settings expand automatically. Even in stock Android, you can't expand notifications when the quick settings are expanded so you have to hide them first.

is there a way to stop this? it's very annoying. I'm rooted and have xposed, it should be possible right?
I imagine that it's theoretically possible assuming a developer takes the time to code the appropriate mod.
Hi! I just got my new LG G4 a few days ago, and I would like to know if there is an easy way to get weather information (preferably via widget) in the lockscreen of Android 6.0. My phone is not rooted, and at this moment I do not intend to do so, either.
I know this can be achieved with alternative lock screens, but as far as I know, those lock screens do not allow me to use the camera in a safe session while the phone remains locked, and this feature is a must for me. So, if anyone knows of a replacement lockscreen that allows this, then please let me know.
Thanks!
No one knows?
Well, you can always use Google now to find that info. Just say "Ok google, what's the weather like today?" (need to have google now installed and voice trigger activated)
The LG G4's lock screen itself has the animations of weather when there is high intensity of rain, fog or storm out there. That's really an awesome feature.
If you still want to see exact numbers on your lock screen, you can get any app that puts the info on your notification bar. Naturally, the notification appears on lock screen on g4 so from there you can get it....
Hope it helps

Thanks a lot! I can't get the weather animation on the lock screen. Does it only appear with a particular lock method (swipe, PIN, etc.)? Or with a particular swipe effect?
As for an app that puts the info on the notification bar, wouldn't that make the notification light blink constantly? Also, wouldn't that prevent the phone from sleeping and thus consume much more battery?

Hey,
So many questions at once! Will answer one by one
You will get the weather animation when the weather is intense, like its raining out there or fog is there. Not for the general temperatures, but for the unusual ones.
The option can be enabled in Settings > Lock Screen > Weather Animations.
For the App that puts info on notification Bar, you have the option to disable notification light for a particular app. You can disable the notification light for the weather app, however some would prefer that light keep blinking 24x7
No, notifications do not prevent phone from sleeping. Understand it this way: when you get messages on any app, say whatsapp or facebook messenger, you get notifications. But does that prevent phone from sleeping or consumes extra battery? no. Similarly, this app will just be getting hourly updates from server just like you getting messages on whatsapp. So Standby mode won't be affected.

I do not have that setting I have not done much to the phone since I got it. I updated it to 6.0, and I am using Lightning Launcher instead of the LG one. Could any of those things prevent me from seeing that option in settings?

Ok, I understand. Though, I see that my lockscreen has space for 2 notifications at a time, so I guess that if I receive an sms and I have a calendar event, the weather notification will be hidden, right? Oh, well, at least it is better than not having the notification at all.

Well Mate, I completely understand your situation.
Unfortunately, unlocking G4 isn't possible and at MM, rooting is not possible too (as of now).
Else I am sure custom roms can provide you all that you want with minimal effort.

And yes, you need to use LG launcher along with weather app from LG.
Anyways, LG launcher is quite stable and once you customize it with your preferences, its actually better than any other launcher out there. It allows you to switch off screen on double tap, the folders are quite good and customization, you can uninstall apps directly from drawer...in short its a good launcher.
I myself preferred Google now launcher earlier before having G4 but G4's launcher is really good.
I have an old app called Weatherbug Elite. It has the option of keeping live weather info in the notification bar. With it turned on the temperature is always displayed and when you slide open the notification bar there is a panel of weather info. This same panel shows on the lock screen via notifications. It does not keep the phone awake or blink the light. If there are several notifications it compresses on the lock screen them and you can expand them with a slide.
This app is no longer available, I got it as a free app of the day from Amazon a long time ago. There must be other apps that do the same thing though.

Thanks for the info! I'll try to track it down. Still, I do not understand why Google nerfed the lockscreen so much in the last versions of Android.
Hi,
For those who are already lucky to own this phone. Can you tell me something about the features of the always on display.
1. Are third party notifications (esp. Whatsapp) supported
2. Is it possible after tapping on the notification to get a preview
3. Is it possible to dismiss a notification and/or to go directly to the app of the notification
Cheers

I haven't checked for Whatsapp specifically, but the always-on display shows me notifications from Pushbullet, Nine (exchange email), DS Cloud and others. I guess it works with any app.
Taping the notifications does nothing - or i missed something in the settings.
Double-tapping them opens the corresponding app (at the appropriate place; example, the email that triggered the notification) (but first of course you have to unlock the phone if you have a secure lockscreen set).

Okay it looks that Samsung has listened to the request for S7 user. Nice to hear that 3rd party apps are now displayed.
That I dont get a preview of the message and can't mark it as unread is little bit dissapointing. It looks that I still have to use a 3rd party app for notifications. It looks that nothing beats Moto Display so far
I believe th e always on display stays th ere for up to an hour after you right a note. You can choose different themes.

Hmm, hadn't seen this setting before. I really should get a better understanding of Oreo's new settings. I searched and found a reddit link highlighting the use case:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/7lbpki/android_81_feature_developer_option_background/
The comment by "well...duh" shows what this affects in Android. From the app drawer, long press Android Pay, select Battery and observe the Background activity setting. Developer Options/Background Check flips that same switch on/off.

It's there for a good few apps like play store and services and some 3rd party services
I wonder the same thing.. on a latest pixel devices "background check" is empty and on GSI builds there are some options enabled..
