Just flash normal recovery or whichever recovery file (in .img format) to recovery partition. Boot into your present recovery (I guess its pitch black), click on "Install" & move to the directory in which you saved the recovery file(in .img format) you want to flash & select "Install IMG file" at the bottom and then select "recovery" partition selection screen, and flash. See the attached images for reference.

What's AOSP?
AOSP is Android as Google publish without other modifications. More or less AOSP is the Nexus devices stock rom without gapps.
We added few non-AOSP features for a better user experience and we NOT going to add something other.

Download the latest build , GApps and system-as-root twrp from downloads.

System will be mounted already Untick it & Remount system and vendor manually then flash Gapps zip.
Reboot
Notes :
This TWRP cannot flash pie roms!.
Flash your old recovery if you want to use Pie ROMs again.
Wiping system using SAR recovery will show it as system_root.
Custom kernels are not supported and won't boot.
Flash Rom and Gapps at same time else contacts sync may not work.
Flashing Mods and custom zips may fail.
This is not a GSI neither a port. don't try to flash on other devices

Nah the thing is I was on derpfest. I install derpfest with latest twrp available. I simply wanted to use orangefox.so I downloaded latest one from the website and installed and then experienced bootloop!

Backup + restore works flawlessly for both Lineage 19.1 and 20, if you boot recovery.img via fastboot.
Hangs at splash screen if you install it, which is probably expected under AOSP or Lineage.

I've wiped my device probably 30 times today
Will test again and post the log here.
No support for usb flash drive storage?
fastboot boot recovery.img -> install .zip (automatic reboot doesn't seem to work?) -> reboot to recovery ->
reboot to recovery OK.
