let me preface this by saying
My Pixel3XL is the first phone i have purchased that came with Pie out of the box
my oneplus 6 came with oreo.
I had decrpyted my OP6 successfully as soon as i rooted it with TWRP (edited the fstab and removed force encrypt to encryptable) formatted data, and flashed magisk.
after that it worked fine with PIN and Finger prints.
i attempted to do the same with my Pixel 3XL however after i have decrypted i run into an issue relating to PIN/Lockscreen
firstly, the option to add a fingerprint in settings has disappeared - whats up with that?
also once i set a pin successfully (and works in unlocking the lock screen even though after i unlock the LS a toast notification comes up and says "wrong pin") i can not change it - if i attempt to change it, it comes back with "wrong pin" but the same pin unlocks my screen.
can anyone shed some light on how i can get these issues fixed?
i believe it may have to do with android 9 as i have heard of reports with the oneplus 6T having the same issue.
(p.s sorry if this is in the wrong forum)
No answer, did you? I'm going nuts here too! Exact same preamble (experience), currently stuck at the exact same spot! 6T here!
Why would you want to use an unencrypted device? Because of the performance gains? I guess those are merely negligible.

I have no problem telling you why, but is your presence here to make me desist? Because what I'm looking for is knowledge.
Having said that, i have no issues with performance, i have a mate 10 pro and a 6T. It's just that it's a hassle sometimes wanting to flash this or that and coming to find out that for whatever reason, not interested in those yet, i may turn out to be encrypted in my recovery, and I'm effed if I'm away from an otg or i misplace it.

not if you want a fingerprint or a PIN working
for some reason they break when you run decrypted
unsure if its android 9 or the pixel 3xl that causes this
but i had no issue decrypting my OP6 on Oreo

Maybe it's because it too came with Oreo and upgraded to pie, at this point is the best guess!

That might be why. See, i don't develop even my plan for the day, so what i (think i) know, is mostly thru researching, trial and error, and once in a blue moon, asking.
I'll say it again, that might be why!
Also, and in my other pie-born device, it's possible to set and use face unlock, but it's a hassle since after a reboot, you need the "actual" credentials, thus warranting a trip to recovery to anhiliate your friends-turned-foes in /data/system (hoping to all the Android deities you don't somehow reencrypt on your way there.
Also, Google Pay will bug and impede you in spite of the face, as the system will present itself as having no screen lock, conveniently annoyingly, for those purposes only, while giving you the no-password-no-access treatment!

Why is it when I set a fingerprint, I set a pattern for the mandatory backup security but when I try to unlock with fingerprint it asks for a pattern saying "Pattern required to enable fingerprint"?
As far as I know, as an extra security, a pattern/pin code is necessary when the phone is restarted/ switched on, once you chose to use the fingerprint scanner.

It's every time I lock it
Sent from my HTC 10 using Tapatalk
Finally figured it out.
It happens when screen is locked by a 3rd party app, in my case I use nova double tap to lock screen.
Was wondering why (and forgot to mention) it seemed random.
Edit: for Nova users looking for a workaround, if you enable screen off by root access method it will use a secure lock and enable the fingerprint to unlock.

yeah a lot of screenapp does ask.... if you are on elementalx you could use button mapper which gives you the same functionality of double to sleep and more doesn't ask for patter/pin everytime you unlock
This started to happen to me after a bug crashed the phone and had to force restart it holding volume down + power. I only have the default launcher so I guess it's factory reset time for me

For what it's worth, I had the same issue (until I found this thread) and it was caused by Action Laucher 3. The launcher was set as a Device Administrator and was granted permission to "Power screen off". Once I removed that permission my troubles were over.
Seems to me that it makes sense once you have a fingerprint setup, to require a pin as well. Why? Because what if the fingerprint reader stops working? You won't be able to login?!?!
Not sure until the poster above mentions a pattern is required. Normally it is a pin if you want. Then the PIN required upon restart option as well that is there.
Of course, if you are rooted, you can delete the system files that control/store that...but if not rooted with TWRP, you would have to try a master reset I would assume?!?!
IDK...guess I never thought of testing that out...haha
Guys, i hope it's ok if i conquer this thread for my question but i got serious issues here.
Got my 10 back from repair today and restored my backup.
But dumb me it seems as if i set a password/patern whatever and i can't remember it.
So after the first restart i can't unlock my phone cause it's asking for the code (and won't let unlock only with fingerprint) and i can't remember.
All combination that i would have used are wrong and now i got a working phone back again (after almost 2 month of repairing) and can't unlock it.
Is there any way of bypassing/ignoring the restart password or is it possible to only unlock it again with the fingerprint that is stored?
As i don't know what i should do if i don't get my phone unlocked

Try a factory reset via Android Device Manager.
I don't know what Android Device Manager is but I could do the reset in TWRP too. It's about not losing all of my data or a possibility to get that device unlocked without the code. It would be no problem as my fingerprint is stored. Damn, I could just hit my head against a wall or alternatively just cry like a baby. I never forgot a password or code in my whole life and by now it happens

To be honest, I don't think so. There were loopholes before, but they have been closed. :/
So doing a factory reset and restoring /data is the only way of getting back control of my phone again (without losing too much data)?
I think i will get rid of locking my phone with fingerprint again as there seems not ot be a failsafe mechanic for forgetting a (backup) mechanic
OK, so it seems that I have to throw that piece of aluminum against the wall. The code seems to interact with /data, because after restoring only /data I have to put in the forgotten password again.

I really suggest starting from zero, when you get everything set, then set a password.
Thanks for your advice, but it's not about starting from zero. I've already done this twice today

Hi, A lot of people are having issue regarding security of device as you cant change your pin and it wont let you enter your pin by showing wrong pin. You cant even have any security after doing a factory reset.
I have done everything to fix it , even took it to samsung repair center, still no success so I have sent it to samsung warranty today.
I have done these things to fix it but nothing worked.
1. Tried online samsung and google "find my phone" service" to fix it as it is shown on some sites for older phones.
2. Reset the phone through recovery.
3. Install fresh firmware through Odin. Then installed both beta versions.
4. Installed orignial firmware mine was VAU.
5. Installed the first firmware of s10 plus. With Nand reset and partition using PIT file.
6. Took it to samsung, they tried 2 different firmwares to fix it but all in vain.
In the end Samsung told me that it might be issue after security patch done for screen protector. They cant do anything at the moment and I have to wait for a fix through update but I have sent my phone to warranty.
I posted this issue in Q&A last day after having issue. But now I can see There are a lot of people affected by this. In my opinion it is Beta 2 issue.
Once you encounter this issue, you are helpless until samsung fixes it. Until then just keep your data, no need to do factory reset or new firmware, as it wont do any help.
What?... Never had any of these issues dude

I'm also facing this problem, hope Samsung fix this ASAP.

To be on the safe side, I have enabled remote unlock and also just tried it to see that everything works. This deletes all your biometrics but at least you can use your phone till a fix is issued.
Thanks for letting us know. Worst case scenario, you can roll back to Pie via Odin, correct?
Fyi: After remotely unlocking the phone, I was able to successfully setup again pin, face and fingerprint biometrics. I cannot understand why this problem affects some people and others are not affected. Why is this triggered by certain phones...?

I did rolled it back but didnt work for me. my issue is persistent and even samsung service centre could not fix it. I gave my phone in warranty because I am not sure how much samsung will take to fix this issue and they might be able to fix it. Lets see what samsung will say.
am not having any of these issues on S10+ Beta 2
I have the same issue. My phone restarts twice a week automatically and after my scheduled restart my pin is no longer working.
I've formatted my phone and now stuck on Beta software as Smart Switch won't downgrade anymore.
I installed via official Beta Enrolment (Samsung Members App) - in the UK.
Was and currently still running the Beta 2 software.

You can use odin to go back to normal build but there is high probability that it wont fix the issue.
Does this have anything to do with the recent update in the biometrics (fingerprint issue).?
I cannot understand why this bug was not seen right after the update to Beta2, but only after 3-4 days...
---------- Post added at 10:08 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:06 AM ----------
The good thing is that this bug affects also the ones who officially enrolled to the Beta program, so this means that Samsung must be working to release a fix. At least I hope...

This isn't an urgent question. Has one of you been able to disable the forced /data encryption on the Poco F3?
I'm curious, because I've tried it many times in the past with multiple ways, to no success.

Probably because any custom recovery needs to read /data partition without the encryption.

Yes, you need to Format Data (not Wipe) and delete everythings on your device so. [ndr. TWRP offers this way easily]
Of course I suggest you to put a ROM via adb or USB to flash it suddenly after the format.
That's because format the Internal Storage produces No OS Installed error, of course.
Other than that, flash dm-verity and force-no encryption if your Xiaomi device has it.

I tried with old Xiaomi Mi8, Poco F1 and F2 Pro (of my family) and Mi11.
Same hardware, same OS and methods. I don't think Poco F3 is different from them.
In fact, a lot of users of this device modded it witouth any problem.
Only problem is that you could lost, most probably, the DRMs apps like Home Banking (in Italy work without problems) and Netflix/Amazon Prime HD. Are you concerned about that, right?

For encryption, well every device above Android 7 or 8 have it of default, Google force them with the kernel, too.

Disabling Encryption does, not, work, per the usual methods on the Poco F3.
Unlike the phones you mentioned, the Poco F3 launched with Android 11 and a read-only /system.
And problems with banking apps and Netflix etc don't have anything to do with Encryption, but with SafetyNet.

You mean system_rw flashable?
Yes, I did try it many months ago with an older version! I don't remember the details, but I had 2 errors while trying to flash it. The first error I somehow fixed, but the second error, I couldn't around it... I have also tried to make system read-write manually by using his instructions, but that hadn't worked out either.
I'm now formatting data and trying out the link (it looks very promising!). It also has a video guide.
After that, I'll try out "MiuiVn" and see what that MIUI Custom ROM has to offer.

Nothing much... You have everything inside miui beta global + it's much more stable than custom ROM from some random Devs
I was referring to this comment :
This installation error can be avoided if /data is decrypted and mounted properly. Apparently some recoveries still have trouble doing that... This error doesn't happen if script is launched from within Android because /data partition is decrypted/mounted properly in Android.
Before running SystemRW script you can check free space in /data partition using this command in terminal:
df -h
You need at least 10+ GB to run the script properly.
I think you need to do a full boot into Android operating system as soon as you flashed a new ROM for the device to become fully operational. Maybe that's why /data partition is not mounted properly in recovery?
Maybe in next version of script I should use this path as project path:
/data/systemrw_1.32b
What do you think?
__________
If you check his original post there are instructions on how to manually flash.
@Rstment ^m^ The link @m0lly. and I mentioned works!
The script by @LeeGarChat worked flawlessly!
Hello
I have a issue on my phone
I rooted my phone with magisk a few days ago and now it has a large issue.
Every 25 seconds, the mobile data shows a cross with a circle. This issue happens about 10 seconds. Then it returns to normal. And then the same thing happens.
It showed IMEI unavailable in my phone settings. Then I typed "chmod 550 NVD_IMEI" and then the issue began.
How do I fix it
Video is down below:
I use the SM-A325F with Android 11
Can I just fix it by flashing the pit file?
Your browser is not able to display this video.
i am apparently facing the same problem on the newest firmware which is A325FXXU2BVG3. I switched to a GSI because this problem was getting on my nerves. this problem doesnt exist in GSI so its a bug with samsung's own firmware.

i am sorry i have no such expirience. i dont know what will happen. i am currently just using crdroid 8.8 bgN since that fixes my issue. i have accidently erased my imei before but i restored it by deleting my efs partition then factory resetting (WONT RECOMMEND AT ALL. IF YOU DO THIS DO AT YOUR OWN RISK AND BACKUP THE EFS PARTITION)

Nand erase also didnt work, idk what i should do to fix the issue. The thing is if i call someone, i only can call them for 25 seconds before the mobile data disconnects which is stupid.

Hey I just noticed gaming performance on crdroid is terrible for this phone. I switched to arrow OS. And God demn.. ITS SMOOTH. THE UI ITSELF IS SMOOTH I have yet to check gaming performance. The customization feature ain't that much but this is amazing. If you want to get a lil bit smoother expirience then switch to this GSi. The download link is same as above Just go to files tab AUG-v415 arrow os.

Oh yeah I am downloading a very heavy game. It will probs take a lot of time (thanks internet) so I'll update here once I test it out. otherwise I'll go back since crdroid had more customization and it also had a game centre that showed fps, changed performance mode and more.

Hey I am back. Sorry for the wait. I didn't test the big game it didn't download yet. But I did test COD Mobile and it works great. Since my phone is rooted I installed gl tools and faked my device unlocking alot of graphics settings. I set all of em to high and the performance is good. I haven't tested with genshin tho. The only thing that makes me sad is that this GSi doesn't come with game space which is included in crdroid. Even tho it's supposed to come with latest versions of arrow os. Although I guess you could install a port and get away with it. Anywho I guess you can test It out for yourself. I'll install a fps counter to check for fps lag too. also I don't know about fingerprint. MY PHONE'S SENSOR IS PHYSICALLY BROKEN so I can't tell since in Samsung stock firmware it doesn't work sooo. Another thing again that this ROM doesn't come with face recognition although I installed LSposed and then installed a module to fix it. Works just like crdroid. Soooooo if you want it tell me and I'll post the links along with instructions.

Hello community,
I have a Oneplus 8 pro laying around with unlocked bootloader, Magisk, (possibly TWRP), and a firmware which was one of the first in around may 2020.
The issue is, I want to use this phone now, but I cannot update it throught the full package of OxygenOS updater. It gives "update failed" at the 0% mark. It seems I cannot update through the conventional way. After some thinking, it might be unsuccessful as I am not even sure what firmware it runs.
The next step I wanted to take was go back to stock through the TWRP backup that was made in june 2020 (I'm not sure if it even has this backup), yet I now read it is unrecommended to use TWRP. I am not even sure if TWRP was working at that time (where would the backup be located?).
And finally I read OxygenOS 12 might ruin the phone if things are not done right due to firmware mix-up in case of the memory.
What now? Can anyone help me with some steps and advice to get the phone to at least the latest software, and preferably working with Magisk (included call recorder)?
Thanks in advance.
If your OS is fast, stable and fulfilling its mission let it be!!! The age is irrelevant if Android 9 or higher.
Don't fix it if it's not broken... if you value your time and device functionality.

All works like a charm currently, except that VoWIFI tends to fail and not reconnect. Any ideas on that?
And what about security patches?
Thanks

Let me put it this way, this heavily used stock N10+ hasn't been updated in over 3 years, still running on Pie.
Current load is over 2.5 yo, still fast and stable with minimal maintenance.
Security simply isn't a issue. Nothing's got through with only some simple protocols being used to secure it. One is wifi, disabled, I never use it. This what Android is capable of...

Sounds good.
What if someone really requires to have Wifi working because they have zero reception inside?

You'll have to work that out. For me wifi is a hugh security risk. Since I have a grandfathered unlimited data plan wifi is irrelevant.
You could use a signal booster...

Not legal in every country sadly.
Back to my first question, do you have any steps to get back to stock if I ever wanted to?
You could use the MSM tool and factory reset it back to OOS10 and from there on update it OTA.
