A few questions about the user experience - Huawei Mate 20 X Questions & Answers

Just got this monster today and am confused by a few things
1. Why does the screen randomly flicker in brightness even when auto/adaptive is off. Also unchecked the enhance in sun light mode. Anyone else have this??
2. The option to shoot 40mp photos randomly disappears and I'm left with 10 as my max resolution.
3. Is there a way to have hdr remain as a constant?
4. I have EVR-L29 and both YouTube and Netflix appear to be only working on a very low resolution. Any ideas? I even confired widevine was L1.

Good thinking but unfortunately that's not it. Oddly it seems to have stopped in the last day or two[emoji2369]

I am not having any of these issues on my Mate 20 X EVR-L29.

[UPDATED] Auto brightness flicker - Related to CPU load? Try different governer?

Hi all.
I'm reading a lot about 'screen flicker'. But it seems people are using this to describe a few different faults.
I've noticed that my one x backlight flickers when in auto brightness mode. But it only does it under artificial light. Under natural light it's totally fine.
If I turn off Auto brightness, it is completely fine also, regardless of what level I set the brightness to.
It's almost as if the software isn't filtering the auto brightness sensor output enough and trying to respond instantaneously to even the slightest light change, giving the impression of a flicker.
Who else has this issue specifically?
It looks to me like a software issue, but I only have 3 days left in my return for refund peiod and I'm not sure what the best option is.
Cheers.
EDIT: On to my 10th handset now with the same issue and just about ready to give up, but have noticed that the flicker seems to be worse when the CPU is coming on and off heavy load.
Can someone with Root and SETCPU installed please try different governers to see if they make any difference to this issue? I don't wan to root this phone to try it myself as I may end up returning it. Thanks!

Oh well return it, and buy a new one thats probably the best option, i ordered mine yesterday, and ill do the same in 2 weeks if it have issues
Yeah I'm thinking that might be the best option. It's just that it seems to be a Software issue to me.
Anyone upgraded to 1.28 and seen this specific problem (not the screen jumping and flickering pixels) go away?

I've upgraded to 1.28 and still have the flickering problem. I would love to be able to believe its software and its going to get fixed with an OTA, but at the moment everyone is simply uncertain as to what the future holds.
HTC advices anyone with a flickering screen to go to your carrier and ask for a replacement

On to my 10th handset with auto-brightness flicker now. At what point should i jsut give up? lol
It seems to be somehow related to CPU load also as I'm noticing the flicker is far worse when the cpu is changing power states.
Can someone with root try a different governer for the CPU and see if that changes the flicker at all?
BUMP. I'd be really great if someone rooted could test this theory!
..
I really cant help but ill tell my experience with my onex for the past two or three weeks.
I had the flickering screen twice,
1. random on the notification bar.
2. I was taking photos and got the CPU loaded because I was shooting too many pics. the bottom side of the screen was flickering.
anyway, I notice that the flickering only happend when the auto screen rotate is enabled.
Thanks for the reply, but I think you're talking about a different flicker. I'm talking about the back-light flicker when Auto Brightness is enabled. Not the LCD panel flicker.

Galaxy Note 2 queries

Hi all,
Just got a galaxy note 2 yesterday and started setting it all up and updating the software etc. I'm new at android so bear with me.
While I was testing it I found an issue with the stylus, it would work from quite a distance from the screen, so had no chance of drawing etc. a quick google revealed that slapping the stylus down hard on the table could fix it ? I tried this and amazingly it did fix it, wow
While charging it I also noticed the charger sqeals a lot of high pitched noises, so I may have to get this replaced as others have on here.
My main query though is that I notice if I have power saver enabled when I scroll up and down in a browser or sky news I see motion blur on text, more so when the text is bold. But turn power save off and it's fine. But then I left it enabled all night and it was fine this morning, wether it was on or off. Restarted the note 2 and the blur was back again ? Is this normal.
And one last thing (sorry) I notice when scrolling up and down in the photo section the image thumbnails tend to rotate anticlockwise a bit and then return to normal position, this is hard to explain but looks odd, is this normal as well ?
Thanks.
Congrats on ur new phone.
High pitch noise is pretty normal. If your phone starts charging in a long time perhaps ask for a replecement one. My uk charger always making that noise but no probs on charging.
I can not see any weird issues with my thumbnails pictures etc so I anmot help you on that one.

Auto adjust screen tone option is checked or not. This option normally changes the tone on the display for stock browser and mail app to conserve battery. If its checked please uncheck and test.

Ok thanks for the reply. I do have that setting off, so it's not that. Only seems to relate to power saver, and I can turn off three options within that and just leave the CPU one on and it still does it. So I'm lost.
Yes the photo issue is hard to explain. If the thumbnail images are small it's fine, but when you make them bigger that's when they sort of animate anti-clockwise or tilt while scrolling, then return to normal when you stop scrolling.
Thanks again.

Screen looking washed out

Have any other Z5 premium users noticed that sometimes when you wake up the screen it looks super washed out almost LG G3 esque for a second or 2 then it goes back to looking normal?
Just wondering if there's an explanation, it's a common thing or i have a faulty handset.
Thanks

Don't think it's faulty. Very noticable to me on very dark screens. If you turn off Adaptive Brightness in settings this doesn't happen. It's just trying to adjust the screen to a proper brightness.
I have had the same issue.
Normally if I wake the phone up directly into an app that had a dark background i can easily see this. I find that pressing the recent apps key, selecting another app and then going back into the washed out app helps to remedy the problem if it does not sort itself out.
This happens for me as well. Note this also happened on my z3. Im not all that worried about it. The washed out display is usually sorted within a few seconds. If it bothers you that much, turning off adaptive brightness get rid of the issue as mentioned earlier.
I've taken to using Lux Auto, it resolved the issue.
They talked about it on the Sony forums, there's a bug in the adaptive brightness and Sony said that they are fixing it for the 6.0 update

Always notice it when I leave my keyboard open and lock screen. When I unlock it later the keyboard looks all washed out then fades back to normal. Never bothered me though on this or previous Sony phones

Cheers for the answers guess i'll wait for this 6.0 update to drop to see if it fixes it

Good Luck
We're on 7.0 and it is still not working. My screen becomes the dimmest in sunlight or bright days, that's exactly when I need it the brightest and it becomes dim - Sonny ? or Funny !
I am tired of this phone.
May 5th.
So when I am tired I am trying the most crazy things....
Installed LUX Auto Brightness - 48 hours and not a single problem.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.vito.lux
I organized the application a bit, Min brightness 40% , Max - 100% , link your 0 lux ambient to 60% brightness and use other good stuff.
This application controls the Z5 Brightness so that it gives me what need.
Of course my Z5 adaptive brightness is OFF.
I can not explain how this does it, even me being an EE, but still Job is done.
This was very frustrating so you can understand my excitement.

Recording 30fps video with flashlight turned on

Hello.
I tried out the Nexus 5X in store today and had trouble turning on the video while keeping the flashlight turned on.
Could anyone here tell me if you're able to keep the flashlight turned on while recording 30fps video?
When I tried the camera in store it would only show the Flashlight symbol when I toggled into 120fps mode.
Edit: I would prefer that this all can be made in the stock app / stock setup. If there are other methods please let me know.

With stock Google Camera (3.1.021) updated through the Play Store, I can turn on the flashlight before recording a video. Although once a video is started, no settings can be toggled until the video has ended. Just tried it for about 20 seconds and the flashlight stays on throughout the recording. Did you happen to notice if the phone was warming up as display phones usually do?
This Snapdragon 808 CPU throttles after sustained use to prevent overheating. I believe certain features, like the flashlight, also will not turn on if the battery is low.

Is this the latest version? and are you 100% sure you were not shooting in 120fps mode? Because when I tried it the flash button dissappears in 30fps mode.
I'm going back to the store to try it out some more.
If anyone can upload the latest apk it would be fine because I couldn't access the playstore when I was there.

I didn't notice anything weird with the display phone, I've never seen a nexus 5x before-- therefore I have nothing to compare with.
How are display phones different? I will try the phone for a longer period next time I go there.

It's good that you mention it because I didn't consider this. Does the nexus 5x overheat when recording in [email protected]+flashlight?
I'm not even sure if it has a [email protected] mode but i feel like more than 30fps is a waste for my intended use. Quick google search seems to indicate it supports 30fps. I feel like 60fps would be more interesting than 120fps...

Yes, the latest Google Camera update that I have is from November 17th, 2015. The flashlight works for both 30 and 120 fps in 720p and 1080p. After messing with the settings, I am certain you were using 4K. Switching to 4k recording disables the flashlight for 30fps but allows it for 120 fps.
I have heard there is a limit of maybe 7 to 10 minutes when recording in 4k. I can't say for sure as I do not record at all.
Edit: Display phones are either constantly charging or in use more so than when used by one person. So they would be warmer. Given that the Snapdragon 808 and 810 are already prone to overheating, being used in a display setting would make the CPU's more susceptible to throttling. But that is not the issue that you are seeing with the camera. The 30 fps flashlight is just unavailable in 4k recording.

Pixel 2 XL - Camera shake-gate

Hi all,
I just recently got the pixel 2 xl, however, I have noticed that when using the rear camera for photos or video, during the app running when a notification comes in and the phone is in vibrating mode. The screen shakes up like crazy for 1 sec or 2.
Is this normal?
I have done some research and not many answers found, I only got the below link regarding the issue.
Is Google aware of this? Is this a rare issues? Any fixes?
https://youtu.be/e71E2OqQcpQ
Cheers
I think it has to do with OIS, which is normal.
To avoid distortion in pictures/video, I have Tasker setup to put my device in DND mode while in the camera app. No vibrations to interrupt my recording/pictures

Looks like the vibration motor of the phone shakes the camera sensor too. There probably isn't a fix for that, so turn off vibrations while recording something important.
