What's different between regular Mi Note 3 TWRP and SAR? Can we use SAR as the standard one or do we have to reflash the other TWRP to be able to use Lineage OS etc?

SAR means System-as-root and with SAR, the ramdisk is in system, not in boot.img. I switched to SAR because Magisk isnt working with non-SAR. As your question, no you cant use SAR TWRP on other roms...

From Android 10 the rootfs is integrated into the system image, implicitly, which is called a system-as-root.
Usually, the root filesystem (rootfs) contains the in-memory mount points to /system, /etc, /sys etc. partitions.
With the system-as-root concept, the above rootfs mount points will be like following:
/system/system
/system/etc
/system/sys
and so on...
With these changes the TWRP or the GApps scripts etc. have to know that the etc mount point is now /system/etc and not like earlier /etc and so on for other partitions as well.
At least for Mi Note 3, Android 10 has this change but not the earlier Android versions. Earlier TWRPs will not work on Android 10 and this SAR TWRP will not work on other earlier Android versions.
I hope this explanation will be helpful to understand the system-as-root concept which was earlier introduced in Android Pie.
SAR was must for new devices launched with Android Pie but it was optional for devices upgrading to Android Pie from Oreo or earlier versions.
But from Android 10 the SAR has been the standard and you cannot change it, as far as I know.
Thank you for your explanations! I guess I'll wait until the kinks are ironed out in this ROM before making the switch.
Photomath's camera hasn't worked since latest PE Pie.

Yes, rom is good. But I can't found working Google camera on it
Can't download files from Google Chrome
upd: fixed
There is a problem with bluetooth. Turns on and off while listening to music. In phone mode, it works fine, sort of.
Cant find gcam. Anyone found??
Bug: i cant use bluetooth with BT Soundbars and speakers, ex: Bluedio TS5, but i can use with Redmi Airdots
Bugs I found so far:
WiFi signal sometimes can drop and disconnect from my asus rt ac51u.
Overall system performance is quite slow.
Battery drains a little bit faster than PE9.
Lockscreen image sometimes draws in small window (2/5 of screen) and then redraws itself normally.
Fingerprint aunth is buggy. Some apps get crashes.
Gpay and my bank app doesn't work with nfc.
Anyone have working MIUI camera on this rom?
do i need to flash SAR-TWRP first? or i can just flash this rom with normal TWRP? Has anyone tried?

Yes. You do need to flash sar-twrp first.
Please read comments next time.
cons: mic sounds terrible
pros: better battery life than PE 9
system wide dark mode is a battery saver
the forward bar for spotify in notifications is a brilliant idea
Please, can I know the detail step by step procedures for the installation of twrp and that custom rom because I'm not familiar with those stuffs.
And I also want to know that whether I need to backup my data or not.
These days, I find many people asked how to enable fingerprint on Mi 8 PRO(runs GSI), so I'd write this thread to let you konw. I only test the phh's AOSP v217 with MIUI 12 20.5.21 vendor. If you want to use other GSI or other vendor you can also test whether fingerprint works on it by following these steps. However, these instructions may only works on Android 10.
I assume you are familiar enough how to flash GSI on Mi 8 pro. If you just a rookie, I recommand you to read this passage.(Of course, don't forget follow the instructions what I writed).
Follow these steps:
Step 1: Flash the MIUI 12 rom(20.5.21) by this TWRP.
Step 2: Find the GSI. ATTENTION: The GSI needs to be ARM64-AB!!! . I will recommand the phh's AOSP GSI v217(Because I only test it). Of course, you can chose other GSIs you like and test whether the fingerprint works on it.
Step 3: Flash it by the TWRP.
That's all. Hope you enjoy it!
Did the partition layout change with MIUI 12?
The Mi 8 Pro (equuleus) used to be a A only GSI image. I would like to try this... even if I replaced my Mi 8 Pro recently with a OnePlus 7 pro... mainly due to the fingerprint!!!

I saw it on phh's AOSP wiki on github. That's what he said:
Why should I use GSI for A/B devices to some A-only devices? : On Android 9, Google changed the requirements and all devices shipped with Android 9 must use "system-as-root". Before this change, only A/B devices were system-as-root and GSI name was separated by A-only and A/B. For this historical reasons, you have to use GSI for A/B on the devices shipped with Android 9+.
If I try to flash the arm64-a Android 10 GSI then it can't boot and just go to the fastboot mode. However, if I flash Android 10 arm64-ab rom, it will succeed to boot. So I think we should use arm64-ab rom instead of arm64-a rom(at least on Android 10 we should do it).
Arm64-ab-floss OR Arm64-ab-go OR Arm64-ab-vanilla?

Just because the fingerprint only works on MIUI 12 vendor. Just backup your data and flash the MIUI 12 rom.
Thanks for the guide !

plus, anyone was able to pass safetynet ? my banks apps not working at all even after using magiskhide props

U can do this by uninstall root. By click phh settings->Securize then you will rid out of root. However, you can use "MagiskHide Props Config" module to pass the safetynet.
1.) Install the "MagiskHide Props Config" module
2.) Reboot
3.) Run a terminal app and type:
su
props
4.) Set the fingerprint with the following keys (pressing enter after each):
1 -> f ->Any way u want(but I recommend you to chose the Xiaomi option), just follow the instruction of it.
5.)reboot.
And dont forget to uninstall the edxposed module first if you install it before.

I need my root, so I can't uninstall it
I applied a factory reset, with internal storage wipe to ensure everything been deleted, then installed Magiskhide props and set the proper fingerprint "xiaomi mi 8 android 10"
hided google play services and store and framework in the MagiskHide
and now, wow ! it worked
but there is still 2 applications that haven't worked
1) STCpay
2) Alinma internet
may you please try these 2 bank applications to indicate if the issue only with me or not please ?

The Alinma internet can be opened like this. However, the stc pay still cant be opened. You can read this passage "Time attack-based bypass script (Deprecated)" and follow it to make the app work I think. Good luck.
Btw I use the Lineage 17.1 rom now.

Tried that, but didn't get any benefit, even the worked apps had crashed after reboot :/
this GSI stuff is just a headache, no safetynet pass, android auto not working, device get very hot, battery drained faster -better than MIUI12 though- with no additional features upon MIUI at all
I think I will give the lineageOS a try tonight
Thank you my friend for you support all the way "big heart"

What was the flashing procedure?
It looks like you have to use Magisk v21 to have Android 11 support. It's been released just some days ago - maybe that's the issue?
By the way, I very much would like to test the Android 11 GSI on my Mi Mix 3 5G as well!

2) Reboot to system (u gon get fastboot mode)
3) Reboot to TWRP again
4) Flash Magisk Canary (https://github.com/topjohnwu/magisk_...gisk-debug.zip)
5) Reboot to system again
how is the battery life on gsi? if you've used other roms like arrows or xiaomi.eu, how does the battery life compare? also is android auto supported? thanks

Your second link is not pasted properly. I'm currently at step 3 and stuck in the process. Cannot boot to system anymore (only fastboot). Can you help me out and give me Magisk Canary? Thanks!
I'm experiencing several issues with phhusson's GSI image on the Mi Mix 3:
- When selecting a ringtone or notification sounds, it stays silent. (edit: Go to Phh Treble Settings -> Qualcomm features -> "Use alternate audio policy")
- The cell reception seems to be very fluctuent. I can only get 3G, not LTE. (edit: after manually selecting the preferred network type in the settings, it's much better)
- NFC is not working well
- Can't get Magisk installed for now
- The device is named "Unknown Phh-Treble vanilla" Will easily be fixed after Magisk is installed
- GBoard crashes whenever I try to change the settings
If you look at the header and think is is already there ... sorry. But I think we should have a good chance to build it. It is a well supported SoC Snapdragon 622.
Some things that are required are available:
- bootload unlocking
- custom recovery (TWRP / OF)
- kernel sources (https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/xiaomi-has-released-poco-m3-kernel.4205133/)
With that it should be possible to cook something:

How did you flash the system.img? I believe you need to restart on fastboot, use the command "fastboot reboot fastboot" and only then "fastboot flash system system.img"

Should be noted that there is still a bluetooth bug in this version, but I'm sure it'll get fixed, devs know what they're doing Test and provide feedback people!
I tried this on my EU Poco M3 with 4GB RAM and 8GB flash and it failed to boot. I think it failed immediately after the bootloader so probably the kernel had some boot error while booting.
Installed LOS and it booted up and works great except for Bluetooth. Can't wait for further updates, been holding off using my M3 until now.
Works like charm for a initial build, very thx
Here my way to got it running:
1. Unlock Bootloader
2. Tried TWRP Fork but messed with the reboot ^^ (i was just to dump)
3. Tried OrangeFox Fork from here
4. Important! After recoveryflash via fastboot, hold down power and vol+ button until Orange Fox appears on screen (normal restart causes recovery image to get wiped out. I told you i was to dump in the first place so i didn't try TWRP again but i guess would also work)
5. Stock Rom seemed after Install dead to me, because of stuck at MIUI Logo (but maybe i did not wait long enough and i updated to 12.0.7. befor and did a factory reset)
6. OrangeFox showed that Partitions are encrypted.
7. Got Xiaomi EU Rom here (I used 12.0.4 because 12.0.6. were taken off again yesterday while i downloaded it.. lol)
8. In OrangeFox now i wiped all cache, dalvik and data (Need because of encryption) but do no restart after it (i did restart one time to see what happens to the encryption, but i had in mind i got a problem after it, so you should try without restart first)
9. Flash Xiaomi EU Rom with OrangeFox (tried to boot after flash into this rom but stuck on MIUI Logo, but maybe did not waited long enough again^^)
10. Flash LineageOS 17.1 from juve60tet and wipe caches again and reboot.
11. Working Lineage OS on Poco M3
Bugs i noted:
Bluetooth as already known
Fingerprint sensor selects Wigeds/Icons on Homescreen like when navigating with a keyboard or a controller in Android.
