Help Please - AV Output Question - MTCD Android Head Units General

Hi all, hope someone can help me,
I have an X-Trons branded unit MTCE_GS PX5 unit running Android Oreo (8.0) and all seems to be working well except for the AV-Out.
I was assuming I could use one of the two AV Out connections to connect to the TV in my Campervan to mirror the screen. I have tried to connect to them both but getting no output to the TV.
Is there a setting I need to change or is it not possible and these connections are for something else?
Thanks
KevCorks

Some of these Android head-units only send output to the video out connections when the unit is in Aux or DVD mode.
I ordered two units - one Hizpo-branded unit (MTCE-XRC), which I believe is that same as the Xtrons - and an Eonon-branded unit (MTCE-WWW) - both octa-core, 4GB of RAM and running Android 8.0.
The Eonon-branded MTCE-WWW unit sends the video out signal at ALL times regardless of the input selected - it simply mirrors what is on the head-unit screen regardless of what it is.
The Hizpo-branded MTCE-XRC unit would only send the video out signal if you were playing a DVD or used the Aux input.
Both units, however, did let you view the navigation app on the head-unit screen while also sending the video out signal (so you could still see navigation without interfering with the video output sent to other screens).
I suspect that your video out will only work if viewing a DVD or when using the aux-in input.

Thanks
Thats a bugger!
My intention was to use the head unit when camping to feed to the TV for Iplayer, Netflix etc.
I Don't use a DVD player anymore and don't want to feed a signal into the stereo just to feed it out to the TV, kind of defeats the object really.
Thanks for the quick reply
KevCorks

Yeah, I was kind of disappointed with the way the Hizpo-branded unit worked in that respect as well. I have headrest monitors in my car and really don't use physical DVD's anymore either - so it basically rendered my headrest monitors useless. I ended up returning the Hizpo and kept the Eonon. Although, neither unit has real "dual zone" capabilities like my older WinCE-baded head-units, which allowed me to send both audio and video to the headrest monitors while using the head-unit for something completely different (so I could listen to music while the kids in the back watched movies with headphones). Can't do that with these Android units, which is a shame. Fortunately, my kid is older now so I rarely use the headrest monitors any more (especially since kids have tablets nowdays anyway)...

The solution for me to use video out was to buy an displaylink usb card with hdmi output , to plug it on USB/OTG and install DisplayLink Presenter.
I try a lot of usb otg to hdmi adapter, and compatible "displaylink" driver because it is very simple without any start program each time.
The problem is to buy the right card: small, compatible OTG, without dc 5v... : for me it was: "Delock Adapter USB 3.0 > HDMI (4K)" / Item No. 62617.

Thanks @myspac !!
I'd like to copy your idea Quick 3 questions:
1) While the adapter is USB 3.0 I assume your unit was USB 2.0 right? No problem for the adapter to work on USB 2 mode, right?
2) How is the delay? noticeable? My idea is to have a 2nd screen closer to the line of sight of the driver, mainly to see the navigation, so delay any will be a problem.
3) Any additional advice?

Yeap, and it mostly worked.
So, I acquired "PPA USB 3.0 to HDMI External Display Adapter 5460", but only because it was available at Frys on my neighborhood and I could return it in case the idea did not work. I guess any DisplayLink compliant adapter would work the same.
Some caveats:
- I never perceived any delay
- Works on Android 8 and 9
- In android 9, sometimes the video is not mirrored. I haven't had time to debug it, it might be the fact that I am using a custom ROM. Plug and Unplug the USB solves it, but as my cabling is not accessible, I usually reset the unit.
- I use the DisplayLink Desktop (Demo) (Early Access) app and NOT the DisplayLink Presenter App (so, you will be using a beta app). Not sure if the Presenter App works.
- The Desktop SW will try to send audio through the HDMI. I solved that with "Lesser AudioSwitch" app to have control of audio routing (maybe the DisplayLink Presenter app does not have this problem?)
All in all, I am happy with the outcome. While not perfect (due to the random black displays now and then), it is not expensive and easy to install.
Hope this helps

I also have the Dasaita PX5 that (originally) came with Android 6.1 (MTC-D version, not E). I don't know if this would work on Android 6.1. DisplayLink claims the app requires "Any Android device running Lollipop 5.0 or later..." and the device is plain USB 2.0... but you never know with old Android releases. Worst case you will have to upgrade to Andoid 8 or 9
The DisplayLink App is able to auto-start every time that the USB port is started and the DisplayLink device is detected (meaning, every time you start the car). In my case, this usually works w/o issues...but once a week it fails to detect the DisplayLink device. This problem could be the device I am using (DisplayLink sells the patent to chinese companies to manufacture their own device), the fact that I am using a custom ROM, or the fact that the DisplayLink app is still beta...
In short: I can not promise it will always work. And I can not promise that any chinese HW will work as well as the one I have.
Also, you might want to route the USB cable using an USB extension cord, in a way that you can plug and unplug the extension without dismounting the whole unit...just in case.
WARNING: my DSP antenna was almost NEXT to the external display, and I originally used cheap HDMI cables to go from the adapter to the display. That messed my GPS in a terrible way (no Satellite found). Problem was solved when I acquired a better (not necessarily top expensive) HDMI cable.
Hope this helps

So, what won't work for sure is the feature of "...installazione e aggiornamenti automatici dei driver..." because Win drivers are different than Android. Actually, that looks to me like "tricky advertising", my understanding is that DisplayLink drivers come by default with Windows, so all DisplayLink are plug&play on windows.
Will the device work once you installed DisplayLink app on Android?... it should, but...
Anyway the device looks expensive (although Star-Tech is a good brand) Why not trying with some Chinese HW? Also, is Amazon available on your area? Usually you can return things to Amazon without any issue.

I know it's an old thread, but only one I could find about getting video out to work on these units. Joying now sells a USB to rca video adapter and I wanted to ask if anyone has tried it on different brand units? They say it only works on joying and even messaged me after I ordered one to confirm I had joying unit (I do not in fact but told them to please send it anyway). I have an Xtrons px5 unit with Android 10. The dongle says for joying Android 10 unit so I'm hoping that since most of these units are similar it will still work.
Here is link to that dongle:

[Q] Galaxy Tab 10.1 VGA Adapter

I'm waiting for Galaxy Tab 10.1 to be released in order to buy one, but I need to know is there any idea if there is a VGA adapter to connect it to TV via VGA and display presentations on TV. I know that there is HDMI Adapter, but for iPAD2 there is a VGA adapter.
I really appreciates your help

Im not sure that would work.
There are (at least) 2 specs for DVI - DVI-A (Analogue) and DVI-D (Digital) .
HDMI > DVI-D is possible, but AFAIK, HDMI > DVI-A is not, since the output device (your Tab) would need to support analogue signals. For the same reason, you wouldn't be able use a HDMI > VGA adapter.
Im almost certain that the tab does not support analogue timings but you never know.
If it's for work and you're not spending your own money, see if they will buy a converter box for "all those people" who need to use it That's the only way to be sure it will work.

There already exists a cable that plugs into the Samsung proprietary port that outputs an analogue signal through a composite video connector (and stereo RCA plugs for audio). Samsung reps have confirmed that this cable, released for the original Galaxy Tab, will work 100% with the 10.1v and 10.1 (by implication probably the 8.9 too).
Composite to VGA won't work as it has different timings.
Best you can do is something that converts HDMI to VGA by some integrated solution, e.g., HDfury - HDMI to VGA cable, see their forum. Unfortunately you need another extra adaptor to fit the propriatory Galaxy connector. Plus extra power supply for the HDfury (and probably for the Galaxy Tab as well).
This is a deal breaker for all teachers and students that often have to show their content over VGA beamer. Bummer.
@pibach -> thanks for your input, clear, concise and accurate.
I'm on the market for a 10"/HC tablet that has "native" VGA output capability (as in dock connector<->VGA) that would not require an external/powered adapter.
Anyone knows of such rarity?
I have a tattoo/Click, Desire, Galaxy S and Galaxy Tab, so I'm totally addicted to Android. But failing this basic pre-requisite for Corporate environment is a fail in my book and would force me to put my money on the iPad2 despite the shortcomings(including the no-jailbreak current status). Don't get me wrong, I have no trolling intention: I have simple business needs that must be met...
So if you know of any such HC tablet, please let us know.
Cheers,

And you are not the only one. I'm getting 10.1v tomorrow, and hoping that there will be VGA adapter available one day. But for time being HDMI will do.
I just bought one too and I'm really pissed off there's no way to use it for work
even the ipad can output vga :S
i was able to get "something" using HP's hdmi -> vga adapter
Unfortunately, green was missing. Could have been the cable provided locally. If someone is successful in connecting to a VGA projector, let me know.
[Even with proper colors, the need for two dongles and AC power make the GT unsuitable for presentations.]
Anyone knows if Samsung or a 3rd party is working on something?
i'd really like to know that too...

check out HDFURY, expensive but probably good quality
I ended up taking a risk buying a $40 one from chinabuye @ chinabuye.com/hdmi-to-vga-and-3-5mm-audio-converter
works fine, been using it to connect my media player to a comp monitor.
hi guys,
can anyone confirm that there is no official/unofficial available vga adapter for the gtab 10.1?
options that I have seen are those that typically require a separate power supply, which defeats the purpose of having a tablet for mobility purposes.
appreciate any advice!!

this really eliminates the Gtab 10.1 as a useful work/office companion since most enterprises still use vga projectors.....

Did anyone tried this adapter?
http://www.shopping.hp.com/product/computer/categories/cables/1/accessories/NP031AA%23ABA
It seems it doesnt have a power source, it would be portable enough if it was the case
Yes. I could get something on the projector. Colors were off. I didn't have the time to check all connections. But even if it were working, having to rely on AC to power the HDMI dongle makes little sense.
In a pinch, you may want to use http://app.mightymeeting.com/index.html . You'll need a local machine and decent internet connectivity, but you gain mobility in the room and might score wow-points. They have an android app but it doesn't work on honeycomb. You have to start the meeting through their website.
In real life it remains a risky proposition. I could get away with it (I teach. Easy to switch to local machine if something goes wrong), but would never rely on such setup for a conference or other high stakes presentation. I now routinely use mightymeeting with an iPad. MM can save a local version of the presentation file. Never failed. Extremely convenient.

Galaxy S3 composite out?

I've been searching and I'm not finding any real answers which leads me to believe that it won't be possible without a digital converter box. I'm looking for some type of analog out adapter for my S3. I would like to hook it up to my car's in-dash head unit which does not support HDMI. Now a days a regular micro usb port on these phones seem to be used for every purpose. I do want video. Has anyone had any luck?
EDIT: This post started with 6 adapters and has dwindled down to just 3. I'm surprised to find the S3 VGA adapter but this is the digital to analog converter I need. The total cost is about $30. I pulled the trigger and will update you guys in a few weeks once it arrives.

Edit: Wow I feel dumb... You can't convert from VGA to Composite without a converter box. What a waste. I was focusing on the conversion from digital to analog and didn't consider the encoding is different... The VGA out does however work with my HDTV. It's not great though. The output is fixed at the 720p resolution which means it uses about 1/3th of my 1080p screen. The screen flickers occasionally too. Sometimes it won't even work without a minute of messing with the cables. The screen is just staticy until I get it right. It has however gotten better so maybe it needed to break in or something. Either way, I guess I'm going to buy an HDMI to Composite converter box instead.

Heck, a raspberry pi is cheaper than these converter boxes and it's a full computer.

That's the guy I was looking at first but you have to buy a 5 to 11 pin adapter, an MHL HDMI cable, and then the converter. That's around $50. The VGA adapter will only run you $30.

I have an Avic Z1 in my car. The video inputs are just RCA/Component cables... no high-def. I essentially just want to be able to play movies off my phone onto my screen/sound system in my car. I have a Raspberry Pi sitting around; I've never used it though, so no idea what to do with it. I'm hoping I can use that so I don't have to buy anything else. Any ideas?
Well, the Pi does have RCA output. So you could connect it to your Z1. The Pi is a little computer on its own. You could just use it instead of your phone and put your movies on a sd card or a thump drive. It is possible to use the Pi as a dlna device and your phone as a dlna server that transmits movies to the Pi which in turn outputs the video to your Z1. That however isn't the easiest of feats. It takes a lot more effort than a plug and play solution like a hdmi to RCA converter box would.
The Pi is linux based and I don't use Linux. So I don't know if Linux can work with the MPA or whatever that standard is named, that the S3 uses instead of the standard older phones are using which makes them appear on a computer like a harddrive when connected via USB. If Linux can work with the S3 you could just connect it and use it as a Harddrive, using the computer system of the Pi to navigate content on your phone. Would be a lot easier than streaming.
Anyway, there are a couple of ways you could use the Pi but none of them are easy out of the box solutions. The Pi is more of a developer device at least when you want to do more than what the Linux distributions that are available can offer. There are some that offer that DLNA feature I was talking about. Look for XBMC, there are Videos on Youtube. All those solutions aren't plug and play. If you like playing with computers and figuring out stuff, make it work, this should be fun for you. If not, you better think of something else to do with your time.
Edit:
Looked it up. It's called MHL, not MPA.
Plug and Play would be to use one of those:
http://www.amazon.com/Sanoxy-HDMI-Composite-S-Video-Converter/dp/B0047PDBP0
You'd also need a MHL Cable that turns your Micro USB out to a HDMI out, Plug it into the converter and said converter into your Z1. Once you've set that up with all the cables needed (quite a lot of cables going on there), it will be plug and play in the future.
Not cheap, so it depends on how often you are going to use it, if it's a worthwhile endeavor.

Interesting... I'll have to look into all that.. My only concern is then I'd have to keep a mouse and keyboard in my car at all times, correct? With the Pi being a real computer however, some kind of input device will be necessary. Using the Pi is kind of a long shot anyway. It's possible but it's not what the Pi is intended for. It usually is easier and more user-friendly using a dedicated system instead of something cobbled together.

Haha.. that's what I figured. Thanks a lot!
I have the old tvout cable from s1....is it good?
But I can't find the tvout settings in the phone...
Sent from my Samsung Galaxy S3 GT-i9300 using TapaTalk2
No. The S3 has it's own cable and it's different than the ones from the S1 or S2. There is an adapter available but that one usually costs nearly as much as a new cable from ebay.
Also, depending on your ROM, TV-out may not work at all. There is no TV-out on Cyanogenmod ROMs for example.

[Q] Screen resolution through DVI adapter

I am experiencing weird bug. Connecting to DVI monitor through adapter direct forces 640x480. Through AV receiver black screen at all, only audio works. I guess my monitor or adapter is the reason, however this setup works well with raspberry pi (1280x1024).
Does anybody using HDMI to DVI adapters to connect Fire Tv? Is there any way to force resolution? Changing through gui is disabled for me.
Sent from my LG-D802 using XDA Free mobile app
I'm having a similar problem. My TV is old and doesn't have an HDMI port, so I'm using an HDMI to DVI adapter as I did with my Pi. My screen goes black right after "Checking for Updates"
This is apparently an HDCP issue, which I don't know much about. My TV's DVI port is supposed to be HDCP compatible. There are "active" adapters that can fool the Fire TV and make it work, apparently, but I'm trying to get it working without having to spend another $30 on another stupid adapter.
It's a very disappointing bug, I guess. When I connecting it through receiver my monitor shows 1280x720 but screen is always black. However rarely I can catch flickering with signal. It means monitor support this (720p) resolution. On direct connection it works, but at 640x480 and not allow to change resolution. I thinking about buying optical audio cable to connect it to receiver directly but it's about 30$ and resolutions is so odd. I hope this will be fixed with new OTA. So if anyone is thinking about to buy Fire TV to use with DVI monitor, right now it looks like a bad idea. I'd rather bought something other if know that.

I got my TOSLINK cable for about $5 (with Prime shipping) from Amazon, and a TOSLINK to stereo RCA converter from eBay for $13.
When you get the black screen, if you unplug the HDMI and plug it back in with the right timing (fairly quickly but not too quickly) you can kind of make it work. It looks like crap but the menus are navigable. The first time, I had colorful static with the clear picture flashing through every 5 seconds or so. I reseated the HDMI cable again a few more times and it came up clear (except for the terrible resolution).
Thank, I will check for cheaper dealer. The price I've talking about is for belkin cable. As for you hack thanks for information may be it will be helpful for someone. Behaviour you describing stopped for me after first OTA. Right now I always get crap resolution on direct connection without flickering. But before update it flickers continuously too. I hope next OTA will fix it. May be drop a line to amazon is make sense?

Finally I've bought a cheap TOSLINK cable, and was really disappointed to find it almost quiet. For an hour trying to switch different modes on Fire TV and AV receiver. My last hope was factory reset and it helps, so, I'm with sound right now it's much better, but still on a crap resolution. I hope Amazon will fit it, I believe hardware is ok.
Sound works for a day and again disappeared. I think for some reason device forced routing it to HDMI. I've just leave it along for a day and after woke up uncovered no sound. However receiver show, that signal is ok, if not it is blinking. But signal is silence. I started to think about selling this piece of crap.
I found some info about this bug. It's a well known android problem.
Some sources mention it was fixed since 3.8 kernel issued.
Current firmware incorporates 3.4. I hope next update will fix this.

Any updates on the situation? I was hoping to temporarily connect my Fire TV to a monitor that also only has DVI input. I do have an HDMI-DVI-cable but it's going to be another two weeks unti the actual Fire TV is released here in Germany.

The last version I've checked was second update which not affects root. And problem still present. However with low resolution it works, I believe this is a kind of safe mode. Currently my monitor is burned out, so no news.

Well, finally, I've checked this DVI-HDMI adapter with brand new monitor and got the same results. Possibly it's an adapter issue. However Raspberry Pi works well through it, but Fire TV only in safe mode on two different displays.

Did anyone manage to work out a solution?
I'm having a similar issue with an hdmi to dvi adapter - works fine if hooking up to a monitor via hdmi, but if using the adapter it only outputs 480p - and says the monitor doesn't support higher resolutions. I'd love to be able to use the AFTV with an older, larger DVI-only monitor that I have.

AFAIK there is no way to connect the Le Max 2 to a TV using a cable. It simply doesn't have the hardware to support HDMI over the USB C port. You can use Miracast or Chromecast to connect wirelessly.
I try already Miracast dongles from aliexpress but they are poor quality and screen is freezing.
Can chromecast do screen mirroring? not cast mirroring, whole screen from phone?
is this original??
what is the difference between theese?

Yes you can mirror your android screen.
Different sellers/ different regions / different prices?
You can buy a 2nd gen from stores here in the US for $35
I'm surprised your TV has a HDMI port but no DLNA/casting built in?
As mentioned, Chromecast can mirror Android screen. Or maybe a Miracast dongle from a more reputable manufacturer (e.g. Microsoft or Belkin) would give better results than the one you tried.

All of the above. Maybe copies, maybe fell off the back of a truck, maybe totally legit selling real chromecasts. Why not just buy from Google?

As others mentioned, MHL or HDMI over USB type C are proprietary solutions which Le Max simply doesn't support. It's really too bad, because the hardware is powerful enough to drive a big screen with some serious desktop work like M$ Office.
I've use Microsoft's MiraCast Dongle (2nd generation) on the MoKee ROMs and it works well enough. There is some lag, but most of it may actually be from my TV, an LG set that just tends to lag on all HDMI inputs, while it does just fine on RGB.
I've used it to run PowerPoint sessions off the phone and it's really cool for not having to pack a laptop or a big bag when you go and visit a customer.
It wasn't so great for playing games with say an Xbox bluetooth controller, but video is ok.
I also tried using a DisplayLink USB 3 to HDMI adapter, which works well enough to. Actually I believe it even lags a little less, but I don't think it supported games.
None of them support what I really want, though: A portable desktop where I'd just connect my phone to a USB dock on my desktop and start working with one or two external screens, Ethernet, keyboard and mouse for an entire workday, while the phone is charged.
Some apps struggle with DPI settings, so it can be useful to have an app which overrides the DPI settings for things like Citrix or Remote Desktop clients.
The hardware is definitely powerful enough to handle it (I even got a 6GB RAM version), but it's simply not a use case LeEco cares about, nor anyone else in the Android space, unfortunately.

Question Desktop mode on Pixel 6/Pro?

My Pixel 6 Pro does not connect to an external monitor via UBC-C to HDMI cable (hope it's not an issue of my specific device). The video signal just doesn't transfer, and I get a black screen on the second monitor. I tried having a look at the dev settings but there seem not to be an option to enable/disable the feature, only to resize windows etc. Any tips?
(The cable worked fine with my previous Oneplus phone and with my friend's Samsung device)
Thanks so much in advance!

You would need a DisplayLink dongle and the DisplayLink app, this is the only method to do video out on a Pixel
Project your Pixel phone's screen - Pixel Phone Help
If you have a Chromecast or other device that casts, you can mirror your Pixel phone's screen and audio on

Good to know about DisplayLink dongle and the DisplayLink app! Cheers
Thanks very much for your reply! I'm looking for some of these adaptors on Amazon (UK), but they don't directly specify 'DisplayLink', quite annoying...
I have been looking for a way to reimplement, Miracast compatibility allowing you to cast to any smart device. If anyone is interested in helping please DM me help would be appreciated

That's a great idea. Is miracast hardware built into the phone or just a software WiFi stack? I would like to Miracast from the pixel 6 pro.

It's software that relies on WiFi Direct. However Google practically pulled all Miracast support from Android in favour of Chromecast, so it will be quite the job to reimplement it even with a custom ROM.
I just want to vent regarding the lack of HDMI capabilities of the pixel 6 pro. I wanted to buy one of these to replace my landline. I wanted to display it via an HDMI dongle on my 4k tv, one with an ethernet port so I could use it as a hotspot/router and root it for call recording. It turns out that to do that, you have to purchase a special display link adapter (expensive) and you are limited to 1080p. So instead I purchased an inexpensive Samsung Galaxy S20 FE 5G. I ran it through an inexpensive hub that has HDMI and ethernet out. It has 3 usb 3.0 ports and I use one with a mouse. The freaking setup works like a computer, it is just slick. IT PUTS OUT 4K 30HZ RIGHT OUT OF THE BOX. The pixel 6 pro has a few advantages like its on hold software and rootability. But the Samsung absoulutely smashes it when it comes to HDMI affordability. And don't even mention chromecast, it won't ethernet properly and wont do 4k. Chromecast is a joke, just buy a Samsung for HDMI. I don't intend to buy another pixel unless they change their HDMI situation.

If you read the product page, you would've realised that the Pixel series has NEVER supported USB DisplayPort Alt Mode (which is what you'd need for direct HDMI connection), and DisplayLink is the only option.
You also don't have to buy the expensive adapters, there are DisplayLink HDMI adapters that cost only $30-ish.
You're also not limited to 1080p only, as there are 4K DisplayLink adapters (albeit more expensive).
You're also complaining about a $800+ phone you want to use as a LANDLINE, needing a $30-80 adapter to work with a TV.
@GivIn2It It's just a theory of mine for a long time, but I'll repeat it. I suspect (no evidence other than what's publicly known about Pixels versus Samsungs) that Google has a contract with Samsung where Samsung sells Google parts and/or manufacturing prowess for the Pixels, or sells them at a only mildly expensive price, in exchange for Google agreeing to not make the Pixels "too" competitive with Samsungs.
Of course, this idea of mine held more weight before Samsung started to make MicroSD slots rare or even just non-existent on their flagship devices (they keep them on the cheaper devices since cheaper devices commonly hardly include any significant internal storage space), but I think it's still a possibility. Who knows, though, I'm just guessing.
Google does depend on Samsung, so Samsung has all the weight to throw around.
I also cannot stand Samsung's Android implementation (up through and including the Note 10+). Hardware absolutely great. Software gets a 2 out of 10 from me.

I maintain that DisplayLink is overpriced BS. I would not consider anything not capable of 4k, all my monitors are 4k. Any phone I purchase will likely cost at least $800+, but why should I throw money away on accessories that are equally functional and way cheaper on alternate hardware? Google needs to listen, more people are using their phones on Hdmi. Wifi is finicky and unreliable, a cable is solid and trustworthy. And I don't have time to read everyone's stinking fine print on their product page. That info is well buried. I like stuff that just works, and works well, like my Samsung setup. I can't find anything on this pixel that will reliably put its screen on my tv, anydesk, teamviewer, chromecast, all fail regularly, and are low res too boot.
