OP5t - Notifications issue. Driving me bonkers. - OnePlus 5T Questions & Answers

Edit - May be adaway and magisk related.
Running latest stock debloated and rooted.
Tried all the obvious, disabled optimize, selected unrestricted data usage.
Apps such as Whatsapp, wickr, discord etc wont give notifcations until you go into the app.
So it is really annoying.
I tried make a post on the OP forums but as I am so new I cannot. Anyone who can help, please do. This is a major issue
looking at all the posts about it with no current solution. Thanks.

Battery Saver off?
Battery Optimization -> Advanced -> Everything off?
Keep WiFi during sleep on?
Have you tried under another wifi or with cellular data?
Are you using special magisk modules or used apps like Greenify?

Yes sir. Battery disabled optimization on apps I need,
Unrestricted data access enabled on these.
Wifi set to stay on during sleep.
See if u are using another app like discord, so phone is still active even then your notifications wont come in on whatsapp until u go into the app. So I dont think its wifi or 4g related.
I am using magisk yes? 17.1?
It happens on all wifi and 4g.

In the battery optimization settings, on the top right three dot menu -> advanced optimization did you check that your system wasn't set to "advanced optimization" ?
I'm sorry if it's already what you meant by "disabled optimize" but you could have stopped at per-app-settings without noticing the global switch.

Couple of Desire General Questions

Hey guys, I love my new desire and seem to have general annoyances questions that I have researched but cant seem to get a proper answer. Hope anyone can help me out.
1.What is Always on Mobile Data?, does it update my weather and my news feed automatically? And has it been proven that it drains less battery if I keep it disabled?
2.Is it necessary to have a task manager? I am using advance task killer(free) and oddly, I sometimes lose mb's when killing apps.
3. How do I enable wifi to go on and off only @ a specific location( such as my home)? I heard that it is possible to do this.
Thanks for the people taking the time to read my post.

1. It's what it says on the tin. Always on mobile data. You don't want to disable it, as you won't receive any facebook/twitter/mail/any net app updates whatsoever. But yeah, it would increase battery life - but not by more than if you just kept it always on, but disabled auto-sync for most everything.
2. No. http://geekfor.me/faq/you-shouldnt-be-using-a-task-killer-with-android/
3. SweetDreams or a bunch of other apps have some toggle settings. Or just get WiFi indicator, which reminds you that you have WiFi on but aren't in range of any networks.

Google Play Services is destroying my stand by time. How to fix?

Running in LeeDroid 7.4.2. Down 20% today and I've barely even used my phone (See attached). GPS is disabled too. Any ideas?
Disable WIFI Scanning to improve your battery life. If you want more, disable Location History, and if that's not enough, go into Google Settings, Security, and disable all the features listed therein. Want more? Go into Services, and disable all the other tracking features, i.e. web & app tracking, search history, etc..., then remove your Google account.

Wifi and bluetooth.
Plus apps running in the background. I had bad battery drain for a bit last week from Google Play Services. Clearing all "recent" apps (some weren't very recent) and rebooting helped.

Could've sworn I had WiFi scanning disabled already. I checked it again and it was enabled...I'll look at the rest of the stuff too. Thanks man.

I thought WiFi uses less battery than LTE though?

It does, as long as you are on a network. The drain happens when you aren't signed into one and it's searching for networks to connect to.

Ah yeah, if I'm not gonna be connected to one I definitely shut if off.
If youre rooted, then try disable service. You can find The app in the playstore
Skickat från min SM-G900F via Tapatalk
1) Root phone
2) Install AppOps
3) Find Play Services and disable wakelocks
4) Profit
I don't know what the heck Google is doing waking your phone up so much with Play services, but it doesn't appear to affect functionality at all, and you will quickly see it drop off of GSam's top offender list.

Exclamation mark on wifi and cell signal

So after rooting and installing latest Cataclysm (Jan 6th update) with ElementalX I get this exclamation mark on my cell signal and wifi.
When that happens, I can use Facebook, Whatsapp, Youtube and I am able to make calls, texts, etc. What I can't do is load any page that isn't a google page on my browser. Also, I can't load anything on my Reddit app that isn't a text thread. Images, videos and anything external in general, won't load.
When I restart my phone, everything works fine. As soon as I lose signal or turn airplane mode on/off, it appears and I can't get rid of it.
I tried:
Resetting my APN settings.
Reinserting my SIM.
Changing preffered network to 2G/3G/LTE.
Resetting network settings.
Flashing ROM again.
Flashing original EFS again.
Wiping cache/dalvik.
I have no idea what to do or what is causing this issue.
Please help.
Go back to stock ROM and see if it happens there, if it does it's a carrier issue if it doesn't it's likely a bug with the ROM/Kernel you are using.
What carrier are you on? Have you check and/or re-verify those APN settings ? Next time this happen, turn on Airplane mode for 15 or 30 seconds, then turn it off again - do you have a decent cellular signal ?
I'm running PureNexus with EX rom and it's fine, solid (and stronger) signal on T-Mobile vs. N5 used by spouse.

Im not from the US or something popular but trust me I verified my APN settings.

I saw it sometimes on my custom ROMs, nothing to worry about though.
If you enabled data and you don't get the LTE sign, then try going into the Hidden menu and setting LTE to automatic. I forgot the hidden code though, can somebody else supply it? Alternatively, you can go inside settings>others>network>apn and check the apn, then go out and change the option to LTE (recommended) or something

Cellular data battery drain

Hello everyone!
I don't know why, but since last week the battery drains faster than it has before. There is no apparent reason for it. There is only one anomaly, one process that seems to use a lot of the cellular network, and that is the WhatsApp...
How can I examine this further on an unrooted phone??
Thx in advanced !
If the cellular network at your place is weak, your phone will use more power energy to maintain network connection. In such case, I think you'd better install the app named Greenify to stop Whatsapp from background running.

That's the thing... It's not weak. It just drains the battery more than it had before for some unknown and not apparent reason at all.
i was having a problem like that, i turned up mobile data and using only whatsapp, with a big battery drain, the solution for me was disable fast telephony from the hidden menu in the telephone and now the problem is gone
I guess "fast telephony" = "fast dormancy", right?

Let us know if it works.
Disabling fast dormancy is ok if your carrier does not implement it otherwise if they do you want it on. Given your problem happened suddenly i doubt that is the reason.
When people have problems with whats app. clear cache or failing that, reinstalling the app has fixed it.

Well, it doesn't seem to have any effect on the usage of mobile data of the WhatsApp app...
Also clearing the cache and uninstalling and reinstalling the app didn't have the desired effect.
Any other solutions?
@spartan do you have any ideas ?

com.google.android.gms wakelock

Com.google.android.gms is wakelocking like a banshee and its driving me crazy. I have location history on, but always leave location off unless using it. Og pixel xl stock P. Ideas?
Well by the icon it has something to do with Google play services no ?
Mine is much worse. Google play services draining my battery. And this happens only when I'm connected to mobile data..no issues on wifi. It used to happen on Oreo and still happens on pie. I tried safe mode too. So definitely no other apps are causing it. I tried other ways like disabling location history, location, turned off double tap to wake and all other gestures, turned off adaptive brightness, turned off web and app activity in Google account settings, turned off auto sync, denied Google play services permission to modify system settings, etc. No I don't know what else is left to try. This is so annoying....
Mine all have "sms" something or other in the alarm title. I have location turned off, why is it trying to ping location? Any idea?!

I feel it's related to Google account because this is happening in safe mode too so it's definitely not a 3rd party app causing this drain. It would be great if someone could help us find a way to figure out the cause.
There's a Magisk module for adding Google play services to the list of apps that are put to sleep when not in use. I would try that.

Not for a system service like that running wild. You can use Greenify for non system applications (if not rooted), but you'd have to root in order to take care of this issue. You could always try doing the laundry list: wiping app data/cache, force stopping it, or even starting fresh and wiping the phone. However that would take longer than it would to root the device.

I have tried wiping data/cache, tried formatting many times on Oreo and pie as well. Looks like the only option is to root. Will banking apps/Google pay work on a rooted phone?

With Magisk it will, it is a very easy app to navigate , and rooting w/ Magisk only takes a few steps. Boot into TWRP via fastboot ( there are TWRP.img files , that's what you'd want here ) flash Magisk, reboot to system.
Looks like it's not just me...my friend who is using a pixel 2 xl is also having play services battery drain.
Any fix for this?
