Lineage OS 15.1 fingerprint service not installed - Moto G5 Questions & Answers

Hello all the people out there.
Im new in the forum and english is not my mother language so, please be kind.
Hardware:
Moto G5 cedric (XT1060)
Situation:
Installed twrp-3.2.1-0-cedric.img without problems
Installed lineage-15.1-20180415-UNOFFICIAL-cedric.zip without problems
Installed open_gapps-arm64-8.1-aroma-20181116.zip without problems
Problem:
When the phone inits, the fingerprint sensor does nothing at all.
When i go to Security > Screen lock the fingerprint option doesnt exists at all. Exploring the coms (Apps > All Apps) i dont see the fingerprint service installed.
I have installed the "Ampare Fingerprint test" app and when run only says "Native Fingerprint API not found!".
Thing done:
Flash all again (TWRP + Lineage 15.1 + gapps) and the situation is the same.
Anyone have an idea and can guide me?

Hi Andrej_SK, thanks for your reply.
This phone was never flashed.
I had the stock version and it was updated with Android Oreo 8.1, which was updated a few weeks ago.

If you installed stock Oreo 8.1 using any method (OTA, Fastboot...), you have to downgrade to stock Nougat first (using fastboot image) to make fingerprint work with CustomROMs. However, you need unlocked bootloader to downgrade. Don't flash both gpt and bootloader (if flashed any of these, you will get hardbrick because gpt/bootloader downgrade is not allowed). Also, don't run erase modem commands, they will wipe your IMEI in this case. As soon as you downgrade to stock Nougat, check the fingerprint availibility in Settings. If you can see options related to it, you're good to go - you can install any CustomROM as you normally would and your fingerprint will work.

Hi Andrej_SK, really thanks for your help.
Sorry but I'm pretty new flashing android 6+.
Lets see if i have done the correct step.
Flashed 7.x Nougat following this post: https://forum.xda-developers.com/g5/development/official-stock-moto-g5-cedric-firmware-t3733897
IMEI is OK, fingerprint working perfectly.
This has erased TWRP, so, now i can install TWRP and then install any custom rom?

Yes. Keep in mind that if you want to install any Oreo CustomROM, you need to do it using 64bit TWRP. If you decide to install Gapps alongside with any Oreo CustomROM too, use this tutorial https://forum.xda-developers.com/g5/how-to/how-to-repair-bootloop-oreo-roms-t3791189 to avoid bootloop.

Andrej_SK I have no words to thank you for your help.
I decided to continue using the stock rom, at least until Lineage OS is in a more stable state.
Some functions work better and I really need them.
Again thank you very much!

Hello,
I'm facing the same problem, I came Stock rom Oreo 8.1 and then fingerprint is not working on any custom rom I've tested.
Detail: Project Treble does not even start the boot for me.
I will perform the procedure that you mentioned and leave the feedback here if the problem was solved since I saw in other forums for this device that many are with the same problem.
Edit
I downgraded to the Nougat stock rom and installation rom Pixel Experience 8.1, fingerprint is working for me now =D
Thanks Andrej_SK for the great help

Hey there, can't get my fingerprint to work on LOS 17.1, it's like it's there, but it doesn't react to anything. When I go to the fingerprint settings, it ask me to touch it in order to setup the thing, but when I place my finger on it, it does nothing. Did anyone ever heard of this issue or any fix for it? Thanks in advance.

Secure Boot: Enabled (no RPMB)

Today I rebooted my device into bootloader mode to check some stuff and noticed that Secure Boot display "no RPMB" next to "Enabled". What does it mean?

Did you recently receive a refurbished device? "No RPMB" in effect means your bootloader will automatically re-lock itself on reboot. I believe it has something to do with a replaced main board.

Yep, I received it yesterday, they replaced motherboard. So it's mean no more mods? That's the reason why I bought this device. Can it affect DRM protected multimedia, because I can't watch videos in Play Movies app?

There's a temporary workaround if you're a stock rooted user:
Here's a reddit link regarding a workaround:
https://www.reddit.com/r/nexus5x/comments/5hj0r0/bootloop_after_lg_replaced_mainboard_bootloader/
However, this isn't helpful if you're a regular custom rom user as you'll notice in the details.
As for DRM, I think so. I have been looking for confirmation about DRM being impacted by this "No RPMB" status. I've only seen one other person outright mention this. It's hard to find users who get this issue and even harder to get them to respond on my inquiry on whether they can use DRM apps. What issue are you seeing with Play Movies? Can you open the app? Or are you given an error message of any kind? I'm interested from the troubleshooting perspective so that I can help ID when others have the same issue. Also, can you confirm this affects other multimedia apps with DRM protection? I was thinking that Hulu, Netflix, HBO would be apps that utilize DRM if you have subscriptions.
Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk
I don't care much about custom OS, at least for now. I can open Play Movies browse feed and library, but it ain't play any video (Couldn't fetch license (error -1)). Unfortunately I don't have subscriptions in these services, but I used local TV streaming app that uses DRM and it showed error 203 (whatever that means). I tried also watch movies from Google's app on YouTube, no luck.

Netflix app will crash few times, try to hide with Magisk Btw. Re open few times, like 10 and login. Then you will be redirected to the homepage.

Unlock bootloader, flash newer version of it and newer radio. Reboot bootloader, unlock it again*, flash rest of the stuff.
*In my case OEM unlock toggle doesn't disable itself after bootloader lock itself. It also stays enabled even after factory reset.
To get root simply flash TWRP instead stock recovery and install SU package of your choice. You can also run customs on locked bootloader and use Jolla's multirom if you want, just keep TWRP installed**.
**Honestly I prefer 4core TWRP modded, it might be life saving one day.
If you use Oreo and want to downgrade it to Nougat or Marshmallow just flash system and vendor in TWRP.
NOTE ABOUT RADIO:
Oreo's radio MIGHT not work on every Marshmallow based ROM (example: XOSP, multibooted Stock - they doesn't detected SIM card also baseband is unknown in my case) it work on CM13, not sure about call quality. It work on every Nougat based without issues.

i was able to flash stock rom via fastbook (had to unlock bootloader 3 times, everytime it rebooted, but it worked tho)
only problem, when i install twrp and press reboot phone, it will only boot to twrp! and i have to type in a decription password or something, because i unlocked the bootloader and android should have deleted everything, but didn't cause i would have to reboot for that, but it will only boot in twrp .. so yeah, that's where i got stuck .. any idea?
otherwise i'll resell this thing and maybe get an htc 10 or a nexus 5x with stock mobo
Hi all,
I currently have stock 8.1 installed on my refurbished Nexus 5X with NO RPMB, and would like to install a custom ROM (Pixel2ROM from argraur).
If possible, I prefer NOT to get root. Maybe it helps passing safetynet.
As I understood, I should do following steps:
- Unlock bootloader
- Flash stock ROM. -> Is this step necessary since I already have stock 8.1 installed?
- Flash TWRP
- Reboot directly into TWRP
- Wipe data and cache
- Flash custom ROM
- Flash Magisk or superSU -> Without this step, would TWRP get replaced with stock recovery? Is Magisk or superSU better?
Can you please check if the steps are right, and answer the 3 questions.
Thanks!
EDIT: I tried without flashing the stock ROM nor root. Everything went fine and TWRP remains installed.

Without the magisk part its like you are using a normal rom with a normal boot image, just need to dirty flash the new rom..
With the magisk part it would need to make a new patched boot image..
So at least you will need to extract the new boot image of the new rom file, use it on magisk and patch it, after that I dont know... to my method work the first time it was needed a clean installation, but didn't tried it yet because the new update of my rom developer needed to be a clean installation due to many changes on the rom, so i didn't have opportunity to try update normally but when I do I will update my thread with what to do on that case and if it works..

Same Problem My HTC 10 (US Unlocked) seems to be no longer recognizing the cellular radio I was switching between ROMs and I received an error when Android booted saying that decryption was unsuccessful and I had to factory reset the device. After performing the factory reset I was unable to connect to the mobile network, when I looked into the settings the IMEI was listed as Unknown. I have advance wiped data in TWRP by formatting everything on the phone and trying to reinstall Viper 10 (with encryption disabled) Restored the matching firmware and reinstalled Viper 10 with encryption disabled and even flashed the most recent stock RUU. I have never tried switching between US and EU firmware, From other treads I've noticed people had problems with their HTC 10's service by trying to switch from Sprint to Unlocked US.
Three things
1. LeDroids 8.0 requires 8.0 firmware
2. Purefusion os not sure why but I have signal
3. You maybe able to flash the ruu for your phone to recover.
As above... HTC Oreo firmware is required to run a HTC based Oreo ROM.
As noted in my opinion, once you upgrade to Oreo you cannot go back to N, you will loose cell service.
So next steps... Flash Oreo firmware.. flash Oreo ROM & profit.
You may need to do a full /data format prior to flashing.
You may also have to go into the *#*#4636#*#* menu and change the preferred network type there depending on your carrier, I have Verizon and I have to do that when I restart the phone.

If you installed the Oreo Firmware you have to stay on an Oreo ROM right now. Make sure you have the latest TWRP, wipe everything, format data (not wipe) then reinstall Lee's ROM.

Flash the Oreo RUU for your CID/MID and you should get it back
or
Flash the Oreo firmware (That matches your CID/MID) that I linked for your phone above (might as well just use the wipe one which is what I used to get my phone back)
Flash TWRP (if you used the fullwipe without TWRP, if not skip to the next step)
Install an Oreo based Rom (You can't go back to N or before)
Thanks, that worked

He did as the post before his suggested. (and many other posts here on XDA regarding Oreo update)
You have to install Oreo RUU or Oreo firmware + Oreo rom.
It's as simple as that.
Since I have no clue what variant/model of HTC 10 you have from what little you posted, I can't/won't direct you to a specific RUU or firmware.
But the info needed to determine that, has been posted many times.

Flashed Groovy Android: SIM1 Issues, Random Reboots, and UI crashes

Zenfone 2 Deluxe Special Edition
Model: Z00A
Before I unlocked, rooted, and flashed my current version, I had Android M - I believe it was Asus firmware version: WW-4.21.40.352
Current version: Groovy Android Android N (7.1.2) - GA-N-v7.1.2-20180612-Z00A-Release.zip
Apparently that was a big mistake and I should have downgraded to Android L before flashing Groovy Android Android N because there's a known issue related to the SIMs not being detected.
I can get my LTE connection to work if I physically remove and reinsert the SIM but that's obviously annoying. And I figured out how to play with the data/SIM settings to get it to register on the data network again but it keeps reverting back to having issues with the X over the LTE symbol and having no data connection.
I just picked Groovy Android because I didn't really know where to start and I wanted Android Nougat. I really want a dark themed Android Nougat but I haven't come across any custom ROMs that have that option. Any suggestions?
For now, I need to go back to Android L so I can flash Groovy Android again without SIM issues.
I downloaded UL-Z00A-WW-2.20.40.206-user.zip from Asus's website.
Can I simply go into TWRP, go into sideload mode, and then type adb sideload UL-Z00A-WW-2.20.40.206-user.zip from my PC?
Do I need to wipe any particular partitions before or after?
EDIT:
Oh also one of the reasons I wanted to try a custom ROM is because of all the bluetooth audio issues I was having. Every single ROM I've ever had on this phone, from the one it shipped with, through several OTA and updated firmwares from Asus's website that claim to "fix bluetooth stability", I've always had this issue where the audio just randomly cuts out while connected to my Soundbot SB360 receiver (I've had other devices and phones connected to it without issue). I've seen other people complain about it on Asus's forums with no real resolution.
That does not happen on my device. It's stable except for the crashed pie
I know I need to downgrade to stock Lollipop. So the question is, can I do that from TWRP, and how do I do it?
Did you back up your system partition before flashing Groovy Android?

Either flash the firmware directlyhttps://forum.xda-developers.com/zenfone2/help/guide-flash-stock-rom-asus-zenfone-2-t3588276, or restore that backup, flash stock MM recovery, lock the bootloader and downgrade by installing the 2.x "update" zip from ASUS's website.

I was reading over this guide yesterday and I'm going to try METHOD 2 using the Asus Flash Tool to flash WW_ZE551ML_2.20.40.206_20170627.raw which is the latest version of Lollipop.

Newbie Looking For Help

Hello everybody!
I am fairly new to the modding world of android, all I know is that you need an unlocked bootloader to install a custom recovery to then root or install a custom rom. I have a specific set of questions to upgrading my phone software (Lenovo P2a42 on android 7.0):
1) Do you do anything after waiting for 14 days on the OEM unlock screen? Does it auto reset the phone, will a pop up appear, etc? Does it automatically unlock the bootloader or do I need to do adb fastboot oem unlock to finalize unlock?
2) Is there a complete all-in-one guide to installing a custom rom (bootloader unlock, TWRP, flashing, dealing with problems (encryption, fingerprint, wifi, safetynet, etc), etc) from scratch (stock rom)?
3) Is there a way I can back everything up (and recover of course, stock image and recovery, and anything else I might need to go back to factory defaults) in case I screw anything up?
4) What is the least buggiest / most popular / most supported android pie rom available for my phone (Lenovo P2a42)?
5) Anything I should know before proceeding? For example, I know it voids warranty and official support, potentially loosing google playstore, but is there anything else I should know?
I might require further assistance, as I have absolutely no experience. But hey, I gotta start somewhere right?
Thank you for your time.
1.on day 14 the option to unlock is shown in the settings menu.
2. I used this
https://forum.xda-developers.com/lenovo-p2/development/lenovo-p2-root-tool-t3800838
3.TWRP has a backup option in the Recovery menu.
Read the TWRP threads to understand better.
4.for me I like 8.1
https://forum.xda-developers.com/lenovo-p2/development/rom-aospextended-rom-v5-4-t3774641
But am currently using 9.0
https://forum.xda-developers.com/lenovo-p2/development/rom-arrowos-9-x-t3862818
5.anything else to know?
Just make sure you read the thread for whichever ROM you use.
And then enjoy

The 8.1 rom you provided is AOSPExtended, is there a 9.0 version of it for the P2a42?
Thank you for your time.

Question A bunch more questions from a noob

As title really, never flashed a custom ROM (at least not since my Galaxy S2) and while wait the 7 days to unlock the bootloader i'm trying to gather as much info as possible. So here goes;
1) Whilst I wait for the bootloader to unlock can I still turn off my phone and swap sim cards or will it reset the timer?
2) My Poco F3 is on MIUI Global 13.0.7.0 (SKHEUXM) - do I need to downgrade to 13.0.3.0 as per the instructions here?
3) The instructions for installing Crdroid lists an optional step for installing "DFE" but I cant seem to find out what DFE actually is.
4) Is it important to know if my phone has an A/B partition system and if it is how do I check for it?
5) After installing Magisk what other modules/tools/apps do I need to ensure Google Pay/Wallet will work as it seems a recent update has made it harder to fix.
6) Are there any bits of advice you can give for a avoiding a bootloop and/or bricked phone situation? Are there any common mistakes people make leading to a bootloop or bricked phone?
I think that's everything for now
Thanks

1) Yes.
2) No, 13.0.3.0 is the required minimum, you can always use higher.
3) It disables forced encryption.
4) Poco F3 is A/B.
5) If any issues arise, you can always hide magisk and use safetynet fix.
6) When people don't follow installation instructions properly.
Dfe is disable force encryption but i dont think it works for android 12 so no need to flash it

It works, with DFE you can flash files from internal storage in twrp. But it also compromises phone security, so it's recommended not to use it.
If my phone is A/B do i have to do anything different when i flash Crdroid in TWRP?

Almost all modern phones now ship with A/B partitions. So no, just follow the instructions given by the rom developer.
1. I unfortunately can't answer.
2. I wouldn't, 13.0.3 to 13.0.7 is very minor
3. DFE = Disable-Force-Encrypt = Android by default is encrypted.
DFE.zip removes the Boot-argument responsible for encrypting the Userdata-partition on the first boot, located in /vendor/etc/fstab
4. Poco F3 has an A/B-Partitionlayout. Most phones released with ~Android 10+ have A/B.
5. Personally, with the recent change, I tried many things to get GPay to work, got fed up with the Cat & Mouse Game with Google, and locked my BL.
6. If you flash using Fastboot Mode and the Flash aborts during a Partition-flash, don't reboot your phone, because otherwise your phone may never reboot back into Fastboot etc, and only show a Black screen.

No difference.
Further Notes about DFE:
If you don't use DFE before First Boot, userdata-partition gets encrypted, which means, beyond that, only TWRP SKKK will be able to access the userdata-partition.
If you decide to flash DFE once, you must flash it directly after every Update in TWRP, otherwise your phone may bootloop. At least that was the case for me! Before an update I decided I want my storage encrypted, but I got a bootloop. ^^
I wouldn't use DFE. Just leave it encrypted.

If you lock your bootloader after flashing a custom ROM does the custom ROM still work as intended or do you have to go back to stock?

Your phone will bootloop if you do that, because locked bootloader prevents custom roms from starting, thus it can only be used on stock roms.

No, I don't use a Custom ROM anymore. I'm back to Stock ROM, MIUI 13.0.7 for Europe.
Don't lock the BL with a Custom ROM. Only the Official ROM. Otherwise you risk hardbricking your phone.
