I have poor battery life on my desire, it barely lasts 7 hours. I have tried wiping battery stats etc, and have the screen brightness at 50%. I have read that some kernels can greatly improve battery life, is this true? If so, which would you recommend, and do I just flash it like I would a rom? I am using the latest miui.
Cheers,
Steve

They can but finding the underlying app causing the phone not to sleep would be what I'd be looking at. Remove all installed apps and add them 1 at a time and see how the battery goes

Yeah i've tried this, there's nothing draining the battery.
Not at all
Such battery drainage can only be induced by either heavy usage, or phone not being able to go to sleep.
The differences between kernels in custom roms are merely a shades since all of them are pretty much battery efficient. You won't miraculously jump from battery life of 7 hours to 30 hours. Concentrate on your apps or even better, third party Widgets.

Probably a hardware fault then - the OS on it's own with no apps installed shouldn't drain a battery that quickly. Did you also turn off the sync options to test that theory?
Personally sounds like a knackered battery/phone
If it isn't apps/widgets (they are the culprit for heavy usage) then it would prob be a faulty battery. I did a little test last month to see how much battery I could lose in 24 hours. I lost 8%. I guess it could be a baseline to start off with.
I was looking on the market and there are a ton of battery widgets out there. I am looking for something that can tell me how much juice I have left but also one that can give me an estimate of how much longer the battery will last before charging after it has gathered some stats. I saw 2 that people were using called battery monitor widget and one called battery left widget. I am looking for something similar but with the lowest overhead in terms of power and cpu usage. Which of these 2 would be better or is there a different one that would be recommended?
Just for the Battery Stat montioring, I would recommend 'Battery Monitor Widget Pro'. I've been using this since I had Android. Working flawlessly and providing lots of widgets. I'm not sure about another one but so far batter monitor widget is the best one from lots of battery monitor apps.
Won't be disappointed.
I use Battery Monitor. I like the little fuel gauge widget it comes with. Pretty cool.
I've been using Gauge Battery Widget for a while and like it pretty well.
thanks for the suggestions.
I am still experiencing high battery drain issues. I am using Badass Battery Stats, and I am seeing high battery use from App Usage (30%), with System (com.htc.launcher) taking 16%.
Is this normal, are you guys seeing similar results? What is your Launcher usage?
I am at 65% after 10 mins of screen usage and 3 hrs of standby.
For comparison, my phone lasted like 35 hrs yesterday/the day before, with ~2 hrs of screen usage.

your best bet is to use BetterBatteryStats and that will give you a more detailed explanation in what is draining your battery when screen is off. Launcher should not really eat that much battery it is normally the screen. so if i was you i would remove that app for one charge cycle and try bbs which you can get from a thread here on xda and found out from that what is eating your battery my friend

*#*#3424#*#* -> More -> Battery Test and if it's faulty ask for a return/exchange. I got around 87% +/- 1 after1 hour of the test.
I actually swapped my unit once already, the last one had drain issues as well. I wonder if it's something on my software end.
BetterBatteryStats couldn't find anything unusual on my last device, but I will try it on this guy as well.
Will try the battery test as well, thank you.
I have a ton of contacts (1k+) that got imported from my Gmail. I wonder if the device is trying to sync those, which causes some of the battery issues - since the included "Contacts" package is indicated in the screenshot I attached.
I turned off auto-sync for contacts, will see if that helps at all.
solution...

Get Slim ICS installed. I've tried almost every ROM out there for the HOX, and this is by far the best battery consumption I've ever had!
A new ROM is a solution, but was hoping I could get stock working fine first... :/
Do you guys have any suggestions on how to diagnose what could be causing that htc.com.launcher is taking so much battery? I'm up to 25% now.
Is it me or are people using Badass Battery experiencing bad results for battery?
Well let me tell you when I use it I get worse battery. It tells you what is using your battery, but when I decide to disable some of the things it picks up on. I get worse battery life. Also the app itself drains a lot of battery.
I am not an expert, but some the items disabled are integral to the system. And the system trys to enable these apps, but can't. It's like batteries playing hide and seek with the apps and running out of breath.
I got my ram usage down to 490 mb ish with all apps killed, but I had the worst battery life ever. It was draining fast even with the phone in sleep, and I had random apps I disabled starting (Flickr and PDF viewer).
My advice is trial and error. Use the task manager as apposed to these battery heavy apps, and if you find a place where you are getting awesome battery results, stop tinkering!
Edit: a bit enthusiastic in the Ram department.

There's a new battery monitor just come out for free on the play store called carat.
This app's meant to tell you which apps are using your battery and compares it to other phones.
It has to monitor your device for a week before it can give you the results but if it works properly it will be worth it.
have you found a solution? I have the same issue and don't know how to fix
I'm a new user of one x and the battery drain is appalling....i charged it full and was just playing around customizing the phone/settings and i could see it was draining one percent every one to two minutes!
I'm coming from sgs2 although it wasn't great but wasn't as bad as this!
Also, following my customisation etc i changed the sim card and all my customized settings such as wallpaper etc reset back to default!

I, for once was having the same problem..but after one week or two, the battery seems quite stable, and after I played among those beautiful ROMs, I can get the most out of my battery..thank God, I hope you will have the same experience..
Maybe if you wanna stay stock, start to analyze what 'culprit' that actually drained your battery..try using the search bar and use different search terms such as 'battery saving guide' bla bla bla..there are several thread have discussed the same issue..
I am on stock Rom and this is the first full charge after a factory reset although the phone is not brand new but a few months old...

Hi guys..after a few charges it has improved a little but not by much...don't understand why it goes down in 2% increments?
Also i keep hearing random notification type sounds without any notifications...why is this as I'm using stock Rom and unrooted?

Sorry...i know it's the wrong thread for the question but finally why can i see the text message sender's name and the content of the text message inside notification bar even though I've selected not to show this in the stock messaging app settings?
Have a good day...

Try disabling Location & Google Search (Settings -> Location). Noticed that Google services drained 65% of my battery, and heated up the phone. And it only happens when I turn on wifi and update the weather widget, which uses network location service. The drain won't stop until I restarted. Under the services, there's a network location service. So I tried disabling the said setting. Not sure if it will work for you, but it won't harm if you try.

...and that's good?
I got 86%. Is that defective or not?
I got -30mAh when screen is off.
ARHD 7.1.0 + faux 3b10
Is it a acceptable number ?
Hi all, although I did a lot of tweaks to get more battery life, I can't still get more than 4 hours SoT in a day. After charging my battery and rebooting my phone, I realized that Android is using so much battery. Is anyone have the same issue and what can I do to reduce the percentages? Thanks.

I have been using 1+3 for 3 days. I put my S7e in my dresser drawer. I couldn't handle the Android System & Android OS battery drain. I couldn't make it a full day on one overnight charge. Now, with the 1+3 I am getting crazy battery. All things being equal, my battery has basically doubled. I have had between 45%-50% when I go to sleep.
Anyone experience same?

No. S7 Edge puts the 1+3 at shame

Yes, s7 is just ugly, monster but really ugly monster
I love op3 battery
You guys should work on having a clue... Battery lives of different devices are only comparable if you're running compareble apps, especially in the background. And I'm sure there is the culprit. Both phones should have quite comparable battery life (no really SIGNIFICANT difference) when debloated properly and when having comparable synchronization and background apps.
