through the rooting process? ive been using blackberry phones since 2005. and in october i got xperia arc s. but all these things are new to me, flash, kernel, unlocked bootloader, etc. And Im scared that Ill ruin my phone if i do it on my own. So anyone willing to help out just pm me your skype and Ill add you. thanks in advance
and what confuses me the most is that there are so many ways to root the phone, some oneclick and other stuff.
Go to the stickys and read the guides, if you can read you can root.
thanks for your reply but this community seems to have a huge lack of understanding for new android useres
MsihoB where do you want to start?
Im not the most advanced user but I know how to root my phone (with out breaking it) so what do you want to know?
Essentially all you need to know about rooting is that it allows you to install certain apps which need elevated permission to perform some tasks.
I mean if you stumble upon an App in the Playstore which clearly says that it needs root access and you really want the app then root your phone. If not there isnt too much point in doing it.
Although rooting is probably the most interesting thing for you at the moment.
Kernels. Basically allow you to overclock/underclock your phone to run faster (of course that depends on the kernel etc)
Bootloader. Ive got my problems with that too at the moment. Mine is locked and cant be unlocked unless I pay for it (which I do not intend to do) and so I can not install custom firmwares on my phone.
Custom Firmwares are things like Cyanogenmod (google it), There is a Cyanogenmod 10 for the Arc S which brings Jelly Bean (the latest Android version which isnt officially supported by the Arc S) to your phone and adds some neat features. Its well worth getting it but of course depends if you really need it.
Flashing. Flashing really just means installing (in simplest terms). Essentially you can flash a firmware or a kernel.
If you need any more help ill be happy to help as much as I can.

Because new Android users ignore everything they've agreed to when signing up to a developing website.

Hi, I m from Brazil
I just bought a Xperia ZQ and it s my first Sony. Can you help me with some questions?
I ve already know that I can change my carrier version by another registered one downloaded right here in xda website without root or unlock the bootloader, right?
As I m not a developer, why would I need to root and unlock the bootloader?
Where, if It is possible, can I find different skins and themes for it?
How can I know about new upates? For example, new releases of firmware or android versions?
Thank you

Its called Xperia ZL so just search it on the search for device bar. You dont have to be a developer to unlock as unlocking can give you cool roms that can be very much customized.

You get updates thru SONY and you will get a notification when you can get a update.
To see if you can unlock your bootloader go to
http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/instructions as it will tell you the directions then once you have unlocked, go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=2095 and find some roms. ( its a little dangerous if you dont know what your doing ) and UNLOCKING will void the warranty

If you have already unlocked your bootloader, without backing up your Drm Keys, then you wont get the bravia engine back.

I havent unlocked my bootloader yet. I just rooted (the bootloader changed unlockable yes to no), installed cwm and made a backup using cwm, saved in internal storage. Is that enough? Is this backup saved the drm keys?
Thank you

Use the tutorial I have linked above, with that method you will get your phone back to factory-state when you want to.

The phone is fantastic, but the battery is below average even with 3g, altough the relates i hear about SIV are even worse. Since HTC don't sell officialy in Brazil anymore, i don't trust in LG and Motorola don't have a rival for these phones i think ZQ is the best choise.
I'm a heavy user, so i charge it twice a day,but with moderate use + stamina mode i think you can get a day of battery.
Doesn't anyone try to root T2 Ultra. Xperia D5322 ?? I've searched all the whole day in google and in XDA forums, however I can't find it. How to root it ? T2 Ultra can unlock bootloader but I'm not sure how to root it, yet. Even no forum for this device in XDA

If your Bootloader can be unlocked - process is same for all Xperia devices.
Go to Sony web or any Doomlord thread and find a link for unlocking bootloader.
Prepare IMEI and proceed to Sony page, you'll receive key in a short period.
But make sure you backup TA partition and you have kernel with recovery to flash...
I mean, if there's no threads, kernels or ROMs - what's the purpose of unlocking it?

You said "Open source is important for us" on developer world blog... then why Sony blocks great camera features when we unlock bootloader?
This DRM protect is bad for encouraging open source community.
There will be more people if Sony doesn't use DRM protect for (at least) camera functionality.
Sony is doing far more for the developer / ROM community of its devices than any other OEM. The S6 and M9 won't have a good AOSP build for a while, probably ever.
Keep it up Sony.

That is my main question too, before I commit to getting the Z5.
I'd unlock the bootloader on my Z5 in a heartbeat, but considering I'd lose the camera and screen enhancements, I simply can't. People talk about how great Sony is to the developers, but considering that we lose device functionality (PERMANENTLY) for unlocking the bootloader, I simply disagree.

If you make a backup of the ta partition you could always restore it and therefore restore functionality.

To make a backup of the TA you need root (last time i checked). To get root on this device currently you need to unlock the bootloader, wiping the TA partition (last time I checked).

Well by the looks of Android M we won't get locked bootloader root on it due to kernel level enforcements. But I could be wrong and somebody could figure it out and work around it.

Well considering the Z5 ships on Lollipop, all we need is a root exploit for 5.1.1, but 5.1.1 has been out for awhile, and we haven't gotten any news...

No not really, looks like the X-Reality isn't working anymor.
Take a look here about the DRM and Bootloader. Looks like I won't mess with mine when it arrives. Pretty silly that DRM is tied into so much.

I can confirm that the image enhancement ( X-Reality - Super-vivid ) ain't working anymore.
I believe re-locking the phone not gonna help restore the missing features, am I right?
