Ok so over the past 2 days I've started having problems with app closing as soon as they're opened. The first app was the play store, anytime I tried to update my apps or tap on an app in the app store to look at the app it would close. Then it just stopped opening altogether. The second app was Instagram yesterday, it would crash as soon as I tried to open it. Now this morning Photos is doing the same thing. All three app started working after either uninstalling and reinstalling in the case of Instagram or returning to the original version shipped with the phone in the case of the play store and photos. I was able to do that by going to each app in the settings, disabling then so they downgraded and them enabling them again. I've have updated the photos app to the newest version and it's working again. My phone is stock rooted with the stock kernel. I don't have TWRP installed either. I do have the Swift black substatum them installed and am wondering if that could be causing the issue, however it's not applied to Instagram so I'm not sure that's the problem. Has anyone else had this issue and do you know what's causing it? I have not been connected to WiFi at all when this has happened and my cellular connection is good.

When using Substratum if you update an app it will usually cause issues since the theme is not for the newer version of the app. You need to disable the theme for those apps to get them working again or update the theme and apply it to the apps that aren't working properly. You may find that the theme isn't updated yet for some apps so you'll have to leave those stock after disabling the theme for them.
That makes since for the play store and photos. Would that also cause Instagram to crash even though the theme isn't applied to it?

Did a search but didn't find anything useful.
Recently my apps have been un-installed without me knowing anything about it. The only thing I can think of is I've updated to the NEW android market and Go Launcher ex. This problem started happening soon after these two updates, so I uninstalled the market update and I'll see if it's still a problem.
Anyone else experience this problem?
Btw, I'm on StarBurst v1.8 (didn't have this problem, just recently after market and launcher update)... then again it could be anything???
One of those apps happen to be wireless tether or something similar?

Yes! (WiFi Tethering by OpenGarden, Inc) ... ?
Update: I un-installed android market update and to my surprise, my old apps started showing up again...wtf? (before I couldn't find them anywhere, app drawer and application management, now they're back everywhere...lol weird).
About that wifi-tether...?
I've been having the same problem, and I'm not even rooted yet. Oh well...

I have go launcher and the new market as well, and sometimes in my folders an icon will turn generic but still work, sometimes will be generic and say application not installed, check the manage apps page and sure enough they arent listed. reboot the phone and they are usually there. Im gonna go back to the older market and then see if it fixes (one of) my problems...
Anyone else seeing Google Maps FC a lot lately? It seems to be related to finding my location (either in Latitude or Maps itself). Sometimes the map tiles won't get drawn, other times it just force closes.
Seeing this on mine (GSM) and my GF's VZW version.
Nop but have you tried clearing the app cache?
Galaxy Nexus Stock + Franco m3
YES! this happens with me too lately! dunno why!
SOLVED for me!
Had the same issue, and this worked for me:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1467313
I was experiencing the same thing and chalked it up to a bug so I uninstalled Maps updates and have been refusing to update until a new version comes out.
The fix permissions thing, I feel like that could be risky... I guess I could take a nandroid backup first and then try it.
I am having this problem and I just bought my GSM Nexus from Play Store... Whats wrong with Maps app? Keeps force closing...

Cleared cache and settings in Settings > Apps > Clear.

And the problem continues to this day. I almost wanted to start a new thread, until I stumbled upon this one.
Stock Jellybean JRO03C, rooted, slightly themed (to get rid of gradient background). Maps is at 6.9.2 as shipped with the image, and have not had an update since.
Maps keeps force closing every few hours even when I'm in other apps and have not started Maps myself. FC reports says it's an out of memory exception. This only started after I upgraded to JB; it was fine on all versions of ICS, even when rooted.
I had this issue upgrading from 4.2 to .4 uninstalling the map updates did the trick

Unfortunately I don't have an update I can uninstall.
I have for now restricted it from doing background data and see what happens. Next - block it off using Droidwall; still next - disable it outright...

DIsabling Maps still doesn't stop it from crashing behind the scenes. :crying:
Sorry this problem is months old. Haven't had it since the update that fixed it.

Hi everyone,
I have an issue where google play store will force close whenever I try to report an app hang, or when I try to report another application crashing. I remember it working a long time ago, but at some point it stopped.
I currently have my phone rooted, with Virtuous Affinity installed. I used to have Unity installed, which was present when play store (or market, at the time) was fully functioning, although it stopped even before I upgraded roms.
Also, all apps are currently updated, including play store its self. If anyone can help with this issue, that would be great.

To my knowledge, if you're running a custom ROM, the reporting function is disabled, because when Google sees its a non official ROM they junk the request. Correct me if I'm wrong

Thats cause of custom rom problem... Try to reinstall latest PlayStore Apps.. clear cache and dalvik and reboot...

Wow, I almost forgot about this thread... I could try all of that, then the only problem is finding an app to test it on...

Thanks! I couldn't figure out why the Play Store was FCing every time I tried to send a report.
My Google Play Store randomly crashed on me while I was about to download an app. So I cleared the play store data and restarted my phone. When it finished booting up, a "Play Store has crashed" message showed up on my screen followed by a couple of other app crashes. I also noticed how my Wi-fi and data icon were grey, but the internet was still working This happened to me a few days before when I was playing with the LCD density settings but I managed to fix it. Also, I had to sideload the Play Store because it wasn't included in the latest Carbon ROM nightly (4/2/2013) for some weird reason.

The ”some weird reason” is because Play Store is not part of the ROM. It's part of the separate gapps package. From what you describe, you neglected to install gapps, which is generally required when flashing updates that overwrite /system. Your data icons are gray because your phone can't connect to Google's servers. Flash gapps and you should be fine.

For a second i thought that you might've turned off Fsync that prevents data being lost during a sudden or forced reboot ... but i do agree with najaboy i believe you might have forgot to install GApps

It wasn't a freshly installed ROM. I was on the (3/29/13) nightly before I updated to the current nightly. But it's all good now. Right after my wi-fi/data icons turned back to blue, my Play Store app started to work again. Thanks for the reply.
Ever since the update yesterday of Android Wear, the app keeps force closing. I removed the app and reinstalled it and still the app crashes. Is anyone else having issues after the update?

Yes, mine seems to crash whenever i transition from wifi to mobile data or vice versa.
So don't take the update then?
Edit: My S6e must have updated on its own. No FC on my phone
