So somehow Redmi Note 5 Pro (whyred) doesn't support USB Mass Storage even after the "UMS Enabler" thing. I hope there comes something to get rid of damn slow file transfers with MTP. Anybody?
i havent seen a mass storage phone since the galaxy S2. i think it moved to mtp.

Everytime i plug my computer in its plugged in as a media device, is there anyway i can put it back to just usb mass storage with the android with a usb plug arm. ?
The galaxy nexus utilizes MTP for transfers so if I'm not mistaken it wouldn't allow you to use USB mass storage mode.

The Galaxy Nexus has a single unpartitioned storage, and can't be mounted as USB Mass Storage. You get MTP/PTP and that's it.
Hey guys, so here's the situation, I need to mount my galaxy nexus as a hdd. I don't know how to do it in Jelly Bean, but I remember when I had my Nexus One, there's an option to mount the phone as an hdd.
The reason I'm trying to do this is because I have a movie stored in one of the folders on my phone, and I need it for a presentation at work, the only thing I can connect my phone to is a Roku 2 XS, which supports playing videos from a portable HDD.
Any help please
I have the latest version of Jelly Bean, completly stock and not rooted
you cant do it.
there's NO USB mass storage available on the nexus.
You can't mount the GNex as USB Mass Storage. You can only do MTP for file transfer.
wow that sucks big time
My old Nexus One was able to mount as usb mass storage, you'd think that such an advanced android phone as the Galaxy Nexus can mount that way...shame on whoever is responsible for removing that feature

its not a feature. there's no SD card. if there was an actual SD card, you could mount it has USB storage.
your nexus one has a SD card.
the omission of a SD card in preference to a unified storage has been known about for a long time.

Why? Whenever you mount the storage it's unavailable to the phone. This makes much more sense. I hated how the phone couldn't access any files on my DInc when I had it mounted and transferring files from the PC (ringtones, pics, apps, etc).
How to use standard usb mass storage rather than the two media options which are way too slow.
Thanks
My Note II is Rooted.
Pretty sure Android lost this ability after 4.0. I use Samba Filesharing, which is a little cludgy, but it's pretty fast over wifi.
I use Paragon on my NTFS 64GB stick and SGS3 Easy UMS for microsd file storage not for internal and it works great!
I love how I can play 10GB .mkv's on my Note II and it looks insane!
Get a micro sd adapter and then either use a built in media reader on your PC or get one you can plug in to the use slot. Other than that, just use Samba file sharing from Play Store (free) or something similar.

My above solution fixed mass storage for me and I'm using ntfs and paragon on my 64gb stick getting up to 25MB/s write...
I have been looking around, but did not found a way to connect my Nexus trough mass storage mode.
On my ICS Xperia P with internal memory there is a nice app that disconnects the MTP mode and connects the mass storage mode. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1744878) Trying that on Nexus wont work. Just as this command wont work setprop persist.sys.usb.config mass_storage
Anybody? Or do we really have to live with MTP
MTP is safer b/c you can disconnect anytime you need to which helps avoid database corruption. And this is Jelly bean with a newer kernel so that could be why that app/command isn't functional.
I also would prefer mass storage.. MTP is so slow!

I could be wrong, but I don't think there is a mass storage mode any longer.

I miss my Xperia too...
I don't have problem with MTP and its faster also in transferring files. but yes still missing the mass storage on xperia.
It was never able to be done on the Galaxy Nexus or Nexus 7 so it's incredibly unlikely with the Nexus 4.
MTP is here to stay because it's the only way google sees to keep the system secure.
Downside is MTP sucks for a lot of people, i know my transfer times are anywhere from 2-50 times longer through MTP than Mass Storage. and yes i do mean 50 times longer. I've seen a 5MB file say it's going to take an hour to transfer.
I use Airdroid for pretty much 90% of my transfer needs simply because it's insanely fast compared to MTP. On the Gnex i also used stickmount to just attach a USB drive to the phone and i did some transfers that way.
The Nexus 4 has an ext4 file system. Windows does not understand this, so mass storage is not possible in a useful manner.
But it should be possible to run IP over USB, making a nice 480 Mb/sec FTP or Airdroid connection. The same connection is used for USB tethering.
My Sony-Ericsson c702 feature phone could do that (USB IP and Samba file sharing built in). But some experiments show the IP connection coming up (Linux PC, on the phone Settings -> more -> Tethering -> USB tether) with the PC getting 192.168.42.27. Don't know what the phone IP is yet, as it kept dropping real quick when the PC discovered the MTP protocol... but I thing it is possible.
BTW I use DAVdrive lite instead of Airdroid, as it is a lot more permission-friendly.
Ran a test and got 13 MB/sec out of davdrive, downloading a moveie file from the phone. The trick was to unmount MTP before starting tethering.
I found the IP address of the phone by typing arp -a on my Linux desktop, and downloaded from <ip>:8888 after starting davdrive.
Hello, it appears USB mass storage isn't supported by Windows anymore.
There are third party apps that enables USB mass storage on galaxy devices such as Galaxy S4 (I am using one with USB mass storage)
My question is, are there any existing apps that can enable USB mass storage on the new Galaxy Tab S?
Transferring media files such as 1080p films over MTP is proving to be a painful.
Thanks

Use a USB SD reader. You have to unmount and remove SD card, but it's probably faster.

Is that the same to say that there are no USB mass storage support at the moment, or will there never be USB mass storage support because of physical limitations on the device?
I know that previous devices that used to support USB mass storage had that function deleted due to a firmware upgrade, but does USB mass storage still exist on these new pads? If so, I can come back and check every once in a while because a USB SD card reader is a temporary solution, since eventually, we would all prefer to transfer files without the need of additional accessories..
At some point I'll be adding it into my SkyHigh kernel for 8.4". Was quite a successful addition to my Note 3 kernel.

UMS is not USB-OTG
UMS is a faster depreciated method of transferring files between PC and device external storage via USB cable.

UMS (USB Mass Storage) mode is now in SkyHigh kernel for 8.4 " T700 and T705 Exynos devices only.
