Replaced camera module, now wont boot - Moto Z Play Questions & Answers

Hi,
I replaced the camera module in my moto z play because of damage when replacing the camera lens. However now the phone won't boot anymore.
To replace the camera module i followed the ifixit howto, everything seemed to go to plan, i did not damage anything (that i can see or could think)
When i try to boot, the white led blinks a few times, when i connect the power, the white led blinks a few times. There seems to be some sort of long/short blinking (would anyone know of any codes via de led?)
I tried to put back the original camera module thinking the new one was faulty, but the result was the same.
I also tried some kind of claimed reset when holding the power and volume for 40 seconds but this did nothing.
If anybody has some idea what i could have done wrong or how i could fix this. I did not try to connect it to my computer (what would i need to check?)

Troubleshooting,need help w/power on/off not working

After I turn device off via power button, it does not turn back on , but all the normal LED's are still lit!.. as if the phone was still working. I then do a soft reset using SR hole, which goes through normal bootup,, and unit stays on until I power off..(edit.. After 5 minutes, without continually using it,it just turned itself off!) I can't power on without SR. Batteries have been checked OK, and show up fully charged, settings for screen are OK,,. When I telephone my device from an exterior line,, there is no ring on my device during that blackout process, so even though I see LED's,, in essence, my unit isn't really powered up? Well, hoping someone else has had this type of erie experience, that can help. Thanks,, can 3rd party software do this to a device?
It's a new year so try a new rom or do a hard reset first and if that doesent work then flash it with a different rom and install 3rd party app's one at a time to see if there is a conflici with software
Oh and Happy New Year and good luck and report back with your effort's and result's

[Q] s4 shuts down seconds after powering on

I left my perfectly fine i-9505 s4 to charge overnight to find out it did not respond to anything, holding down the power button or power+voldown+home did not result in any sound image or vibration.
Removing the battery and re-inserting it makes the s4 respond to the power button, but the phone shuts down seconds after powering on. This also happens when I try to enter recovery, download mode or insert the charger.
It even happens when I use my usb JIG, the downloading screen appears for a second, after that the screen blacks out again. Tried removing the SD / SIM cards.
The only way I can connect it to Odin for a second (at least as far as I know), is by:
1) removing battery,
2) inserting Jtag
3) inserting battery
4) remove JIG (very quickly)
5) insert USB to PC (very quickly)
Yay! Windows makes the "USB connection" sound, before making the "USB connection lost" sound a second later and the screen blacking out..
What could cause this? Is it my battery? Connector? Software (jamals 4.4v6, faux123, mj5 modem)?
Have you tried directly plugging it into the charger or your computer without the battery?
Sent from my SGH-M919 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Thanks for your reply.
Yes, I did try that, the screen does not turn on if I plug my charger / USB cable from PC into my S4 when the battery is removed.
What could cause shutdowns after 2 seconds from booting? I hope this is fixable!
It sounds like there is a physical defect in the device. If it was software related (this can be caused by a borked up ROM or Kernel) you wouldn't see the same behaivor in Download mode and that doesnt' use either the ROM or Kernel.
You could have something physically broken inside the unit that is causing an electrical short once something common to the system and download mode is activated, which would cause the reboot. That could be the USB port that both the system and Download mode will constantly poll the USB port looking for a connection, but only after a second or two. It won't look at the USB port immediately when teh GALAXY S4 splash screen pops up so that's why you get a second of it working. There are 100 other things internally that it could be too.
I'd say make sure the charing port is cleared of any debris. If that doesn't work, I'd say it's broken and needs to be repaired. Without knowing exactly what is causing the issue I wouldn't suggest trying to fix it because you'll cancel the warrenty by doign so and might not find the problem. It could even be a faulty memory chip on teh circuit board that wouldn't look broken to the eye.
Since you can use Download mode for more than a second, you obviously can't try to restore to stock, which is the prefered go to method to fix things like this.

Sounds very much like a hardware malfunction. Without having the device on hand, I can be of no help, unfortunately. If it's under warranty, I suggest you try to get a replacement.
Thanks for the replies. You have convinced me that this is a hardware issue. I have no clue as to what might have caused this defect.
I will soon try a different battery, and if that fails I will contact Samsung.
Unfortunately though, my firmware is custom and this may void warranty, which would suck since the cause of the issue is probably not related to the software.
A day later, the problem appears to have solved itself. I'll keep you updated.
My S4 was working for some time, but the problem returned, the phone shuts down seconds after booting (normal boot / recovery / download mode / USB-Jig induced download mode..)
HOWEVER:
Sometimes, when I connect my S4 to a charger, it turns itself on (first displaying the charging icon) and then starts booting, showing the Google boot animation (since I'm running GPE). This animation keeps going for minutes, and then the phone shuts down again (black screen, does not respond to anything.

You're just delaying the (possibly inevitable) death of your phone. Use your warranty while you still have it. At least I would in your situation.

The symptoms that you have described are those of a bad power button. This happens quite often.

I think you are right! It would explain the inconsistency and the fact that my phone sometimes turned on by itself.
Thanks!

I had to send my S4 back to Samsung THREE TIMES before they realised it was a hardware error. The first two times, all I got was a factory reset.. Which of course, didn't help.
I'm pretty sure you were right, it was a bad power button.

[Q] Phone stuck in screensaver mode

Hi!
I brought my Xperia Play phone USED two years ago and I've never had any problems with it.
However, recently, the phone has started to freeze itself in "screensaver" mode (Where the screen goes black after 15 seconds and locks the phone), but the screen won't light up no matter which button I press. I've had to restart the phone every time this happens.
It's been behaving strange at start up as well, as it sometimes take 20 minutes just for it to turn on, while on other occasions, it won't turn on at all!
Is this problem caused by the battery, or is it the hardware?
Is it with stock firmware?

Yes.
I've never modded it or installed custom firmware/apps.
Have you tried factory resetting it?

Yes, but it didn't fix it. The problem still occurs.
tldr: Black screen, no display, everything works "under" (I can answer the phone etc). Not a flex cable problem because occurs randomly, regardless of the slider being open or closed. The problem also occurs during boot up, so rather not a software problem.
I think I have something similiar. Everything was fine until a few days ago the screen didn't want to unlock..or at least I thought it was that.
Basically the phone sometimes works OK but sometimes if I turn off (lock) the screen, it won't go back. To be precise, the phone works and if someone calls me I can pick it up moving the finger where the slider should be, it's just the display doesn't turn on. Same goes for booting, bootloader logo etc, so IMO it's not a software problem.
Strange thing is that it just randomly pops back, sometimes when I move the gamepad slider, sometimes when I put in a jack cable or if I hard reset the phone (remove battery). I've had problems with the flex cable in the past and this time I know that it's not it (no difference if I open/close the slider).
My guess would be some power supply or LCD driver IC issues, because the screen stops working almost everytime if I put the phone into the dock. Moreover, if the screen doesn't work, the orange charging LED is not working (green and blue are OK). The moment the screen starts working, the orange charging LED starts working too.
it's very strange but I'm used to electronics doing strange stuff. Just wondering if I should give a try disassembling the phone and trying to fix it or just buy a new one or something?
I might add that I have bought a new battery ~3 months ago, but it's been working fine to this point. I have tried if the same problem occurs with the old/original battery and it's the same.
well, any ideas?
edit: This video shows something very similiar (except the backlight): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m4p0-kv1cxA
Same problem. And I guess this guy has it too.

Sony Xperia Z1 Compact won't turn on - just red flashing light (still in warranty)

Hello All,
I had about 40% battery yesterday evening and in the morning I found phone turned off.
Tried to turn on - no luck.
Plug to the wall charger - a red light appeared and started blinking in a loop (3s red, 1s pause, 3s red etc.)
Tried with different charger - same as above.
Conected to laptop through USB - red light as normally when charging but no battery icon and scrren still black. Tried to turn on and blinking come back.
I left on charging for a while and tried hard reset (power button + volume up) - nothing.
Tried also a magic reset buttonnear the SIM card slot it vibrates 3 times but it didn't turn on
Thank you in advance for your answers.
Try to charge your phone using the wall charger for at least one full day. If that still doesn't work, try getting into fastboot mode(Vol up while inserting USB into PC), and check if you get a fastboot device. If so, try reflashing the stock via flashmode. If not, I think your battery is dead.
(I had an issue like that on my N4 once, but never on my X1C.)
Hello Jayc94,
If Max1220 tips doesn't work, just use the warranty.
I had the same issue as you, and i sent it back 3 times, using the warranty. As far as i remember, you don't have to pay anything.
My advice, when you get it back from the repair shop, in the package, you have an intervention report. Check exactly what they did. Follow their procedure to reboot your phone, and see what happens few days after.
For me, one week after they sent me back the phone, the same issue was happening again, until the 3rd time. At that time, intervention reports shows they changed battery and antenna, with some other stuff. Until now, i don't have any issue again..
I wih you good luck.

Trying to restore my Micromax canvas Knight

Hello all,
Though I have read some of the posts in the forum for things like rooting, recovery etc, this is my first post. I need guidance to bring back my Knight in working condition.
A little background:
My phone fell down and the screen got broken. I myself tried changing the screen and I was successful in doing so but my happiness lasted only for some hours. After checking for some two three times, when I switched on, there was no sound from the phone will booting. So, again I disassembled the phone and tried to assemble it but this time there was no display as well as sound. I can see some change in the screen when the power button is pressed, like a little brightness, but nothing happens afterwards. I took it to the service center and initially they said I need to change the battery and the main FPC cable needs to be changed which will cost around 2.5K. I agreed to that, but later they called me up and said that the screen too needs to be changed and in total it would cost 6K. I told them that the screen is new and brought back the phone without doing any repair.
Now I want to troubleshoot and bring back the phone to life and I need guidance.
The current status of my phone is:
1. On connecting the charger the red LED lights up, but the charging sign does not show up.
2. There is slight change in the brightness on the screen when I press the power button. Noting happens after that.
What should be the methodology for troubleshooting?
Thanks in advance.
