As this is my first Windows Phone and I wasn't really sure what to expect when it came to fluidity, I was pleased with how smooth everything is. However I've begun noticing a decent (read: annoying) bit of lag when I open up the messaging app and begin typing. The letters take a second to appear and autocorrect is slow if it comes up at all. The lag only last maybe 3-5 seconds but annoying none the less. I've also had some rather bad experience with laggy apps, with Skype being the worst culprit. I read good things about the recent refresh, but it's pretty much unusable for me. I've also been having issues with losing LTE and having it drop down to "4G". A simple toggle of airplane mode fixes it, but it's gone from happening rarely to happening once or twice a day now. When I do have LTE though, I have 4-5 bars constantly.
Anywho, bit of a wall of text but I just wanted to see if anyone else is having similar issues and if it's worth going to AT&T and seeing if they'll replace the phone for me as I'm still within my 30 day return window.
EDIT- Just remembered 2 more issues. Had it reboot on my when adjusting the volume and there's a weird clicking noise that happens when I swipe from the first picture in the camera roll. The phone is on silent, and it only happens going from the first to second picture. Little odd but not a big deal.

The only problem i have seen is:
When i switch off my phone and turn it on sometimes it freezes and i have to turn it of an on 2 or 3 times in order to get it working. this has been happening recently i dono whthere it is to do with some apps or firmware issue.
sometimes the touch screen also give hiccups specially on facebook app.
No other problem. coming from samsung galaxy s 2, i only miss the ability to change my homescreen every week with a different launcher and layout. The apps that i miss are Tweetdeck, 100% working Pulse, Youtube and Facebook App.
My Lumia 900 playing Angry birds is so much faster and smoother compared to SGS2.
Overall i am happy with the looks and performance of my phone.
I get that messaging problem as well sometimes where the keyboard lags and the typing noise doesn't keep pace with my inputs.
Mildly annoying and it's not constant so no big deal for me.
Sometimes, multitasking stops working and I have to do a quick power-off.
Actually, all issues are resolved with a quick reboot as opposed to a reset with my Lumia 900 which is something I can't say about my HD7.
I agree with above. The only lag I get is the occasional facebook load time lag. Some apps take longer to load than others, it's perfectly reasonable. As for overall lag, I had one experience yesterday where everything just slowed to a standstill. It was the first time I had to restart the phone, but after that, I've seen no problems. I can imagine it was a corrupt app as I had been downloading quite a bit of them that day. Coming from android for 2 years, the experience here is much much smoother. My advice, as i learned from the past 2 years, is to retrace your steps and find out when exactly it started to lag. When you find the beginning see if you downloaded any poorly rated or laggy third party app, or if you changed a seeting on your phone. If it continues to lag for no reason, you might just have a bad device. Best of luck.

I just upgraded from a Samsung Focus. My very first reaction was that the screen was slightly less responsive than the Focus, which was buttery smooth and instantaneous. It felt slightly, but noticeably less responsive. After using it for a day, I don't notice it anymore. I am sure it is there, but my memory of the Focus is not as near. As far as true lag goes, I have not experienced any after 2 weeks use, and no reboots or freezes.

I'm glad you are enjoying it but I came from the original focus myself and had the exact opposite reaction. That it was much faster and smoother than my old focus... I still have it and my kids play the old games on it so I can compare regularly and still feel the same.
Does anybody have lag when they are pinching and zooming on heavy desktops websites? i am getting a lot of lag here where my htc titan did not get that lag.
The only issue I seem to be having is when playing any kind of music or watching videos. If I touch any of the capacitive buttons, it's as if I long press them. Not a huge deal since I usually only touch the back arrow anyway, but that's all I get.
i was wondering if anyone else had this problem. My lumia has consistently not displayed maps in nokia maps or the maps app. It will show my location on a blank black or patterned screen (depending on the app). It's not a wifi or data issue because it's happened on both. It's happened five times in 3 days. Each time i've had to shut the phone off and restart it and it works again. Is this just a problem with mine? Thanks.e

it is a problem with your device, so do you have web browser lag or is that problem only with my device.
First of all, I'm not sure if I'm in the right forum section because I have a Bell Canada Note 4 not AT&T, but I know AT&T and Bell usually have identical hardware, and there is an insane number of forums on xda to choose from, so I apologise if I didn't guess right.
Galaxy Note 4 (SM-N910W8) on Bell Canada, running 5.0.1
It seems like every time I try to go back to an app that I had minimized with the home button, it's gone, and it has to restart. For some apps, like Google Chrome, it's instantly - I'm looking at a webpage, then I press home, start up messaging to text someone, and then go back into chrome, and the page I was looking at is gone, Chrome has restarted.
For other apps, they last a *little* longer, but it's still infuriating that they get closed at all. There's a turn based game I like to play that takes a lot of time to play a single round, and there's no way to save in the middle of a round. So I like to play it for a bit when I have a smoke, and then minimize it, and then come back a few hours later and play it some more on the toilet. I can't seem to do that anymore because it keeps closing it, and now every time I go back into the game, even if I use the built in task manager that shows a little picture preview of the game I'm currently playing, it will open the game fresh, and restart it.
But this is the first phone I've ever owned that's had this problem. But then, it's also the first phone I haven't rooted - there's no way to root the Note 4 without voiding my 1 year warranty. My last phone, my Galaxy S3, I rooted right away (but left it as stock rom for a year). It *never* had this problem - my games would still be running a day later.
It seems like Android is closing background apps, without my permission, to free up memory for other apps being run. I noticed this never happened before - on my S3, if I didn't close enough apps, I would run very low on memory and my phone would become super slow.
Please tell me, there's *got* to be a way to stop this from happening, right? This is just awful - every single other OS does multitasking just fine, so why doesn't Android? It's just my phone, right? This can't be normal.
There's an option for limiting background apps in developer options, you can try playing around with that to see if it helps you
Hey all,
I'm becoming increasingly frustrated with my Note 7 (recall replacement one).
1. It lags like HELL! I've done all the animation scaling off/force GPU rendering etc, but I shouldn't have to. Just a simple thing like pulling down the notification bar noticeably lags every couple of times.
2. I use Android Auto, which I always have to reconnect manually to use (never did on the S7).
3. When listening to Spotify over Android Auto, I occasionally get stutter/glitches in the sound. Once the glitch was so bad the phone froze and it had to be reset.
4. The thing gets hot. Annoyingly hot, even if I'm just browsing Chrome, or reading G-mail etc. It's not like I'm gaming!!
5. WiFi is very sporadic. The connection is rock solid, but often it will be downloading an app...sit at 100% of download and progress no further. This happens quite frequently.
With all the above, (bar number 2), none of it applied to the pre-recalled Note 7.
I'm frustrated to say the least. Does anyone else get any of this whatsoever? I can't go through not having a phone again, or sending this for what Samsung will insist on a repair. This phone is jinxed and I'm gutted.
Any suggestions (bar a hard reset haha) will be greatly received.
PS. I have disabled loads of apps with the AppDisabler to try and help it along but I think there's an issue with the RAM or some of the internal modules (at a guess). Thanks all
I have just managed to reduce the lag quite a bit by uninstalling Samsung Good Lock (which was forced upon me earlier today)! I liked it, but serious lag creation!
Did you use Smart Switch to change phones? I've found quite a few apps don't like to be transferred. Android Auto apps don't move right via Smart Switch and I had to uninstall/reinstall them.
Be careful what you disable. Some of Samsung's seemingly benign system apps are called by other apps and if they don't respond are constantly polled. That could cause a lot of background processes and may be a source of your overheating. My pre-exchange phone did what you're describing the first couple of days after I set it up. It would maybe once or twice a day get blocky when scrolling as if something was running in the background. The (U.S.) PH1 update made it go away. But we're S-820 in the U.S. and I think you guys are Exynos. So different problems different solutions.
Thanks for your reply Barry. Actually not Smart Switch, but I let it restore my 100+ apps from my previous Note 7 (near the end of the initial set up). The apps were downloading but strangely, every so often nothing was happening after they'd reached 100% downloaded, just before "installing..." (over WiFi). I cancelled that specific app and the restore continued (this happened over and over). Turning WiFi on and off sorted it temporarily but I couldn't download more than 3/4 without this really strange issue.
I also observed the longest lag ever! I went into the OS update screen, pressed update and the device didn't respond. 5 mins later while doing something completely different, the update screen popped up about 12 times (as I'd pressed it 12 times 5 mins previously). This happened again after a reboot too!
Now, I've just bitten the bullet and performed a hard reset. This time the WiFi seems great, although now I'm speculating that it was getting stuck at 100% post download perhaps because the security thing was having trouble scanning it for malware prior to install.
I also take your note re:disabling stuff! I'm going to do something unheard of and just try it stock for a bit and see how it goes. For such amazing hardware, the fact my note 3 was running 10 times smoother means something drastic is going on. I hope this hard reset is the end of it!
Chances are the hard reset won't do anything, though I hope you have better luck than I did. I went through three phones (on my 4th). I did the hard reset as soon as I picked up the 2nd handset and onward before I did anything with the phone. Sadly you should not have to disable anything, the phone should just work for 900.00. Some will say otherwise.. Wi-FI is good for me but the reception is garbage. On various phones with T-MO including other android devices that colleagues have - they get 4/5 bars and usually double the download speed on Speedtest. The head I had on the first I don't get as bad on this one. But the lag I do...
Did you get the update from your provider as well?
I just picked up my replacement Sprint Note7 today so not much time with it though seems identical except 1 small issue. I had my first Note 7 rooted, Viper4Android and Dolby Atmos flashed along with Xposed and it worked flawlessly. The replacement Note fails with binary invalid using the exact same odin version, Sun7 systemless root etc that I have on my pc from the first Note 7 and the second Note 7 was given to me not updated, in other words its on the exact same firmware as the first one!
I am very proficient with rooting, adb, etc and this has me baffled.
Has anyone successfully rooted a replacement N930p that came with PH9? using freeza's guide?

Yea disabling seems like a great idea at first but it actually creates problems. I run it completely as is except uninstalling the preloaded games. Didnt disable anything. Disabling stuff caused massive lag on my note 5 and same with note 7.
Thanks chaps.
I've gotta say, the hard reset has made the world of difference. Which to me is strange, I've never had to hard reset a new device, but it's done the trick.
Regarding the disabling of services, there must be *some* that are safe to disable? I agree if you're tinkering with potentially integral things like S-Voice it's not a good idea. But then stuff like OneDrive surely that's okay? Maybe, things like the Disabler package are a bad plan. You can disable software by default without it, but only certain apps. Maybe that's why Samsung prevent the disabling of certain bloat...?

I only disable the useless apps, such as all the Microsoft bloat (OneDrive, Excel, Word, etc), Facebook (and all its services), and any Carrier bloat.

That's cool. I have no interest in Gear VR.
I have heard somethings about latest version of chrome causing batt drain, could possibly contribute to lag also, I cant tell much as I am expecting my note 7 exchange, but I have seen some posting about it
Have no problems when I used package disabler and chose "disable all bloat"...but after doing that, I looked through the list and enabled around 3 to 5 that I thought didn't need disabling.
No problems since.
Oh...that option doesn't disable facebook, messenger, hangouts etc. So if you don't use those, you need to add them.
Thanks all. Well, after all that, and a hard reset my phone is running perfectly again. Then, this morning I received this from Oculus...
"We recently pushed an Oculus Software update that has inadvertently caused some people to experience phone performance issues."
I haven't put my phone into my Gear VR since the hard reset and I can almost guarantee it was that blimmin thing. Samsung have also updated their Good Lock app to remove lag yesterday!
Damn you Oculus!
Oh..and strangely, the first few hours I got the phone..it got pretty hot...especially since I was using it while charging. I turned off fast charging and no difference. Anyways I just cooled it down w the aircon now and then.
Long story short, it doesn't get hot anymore.
Maybe it's because I used package disabler snd greenify...but whatever I do...Even while charging..it barely gets warm...
Shrugs

Yea they always get very hot for the first few hours while installing all the new apps! I'm not sure you need Greenify these days do you, since android tends to close apps that are not in use (giving you the same options as Greenify)?

This. I just spent two days doing that and its like a totally different phone. I started a thread highlighting my experiences.
i am quite annnoyed with the lag too. it's nothing too bad, but there's noticeable keyboard lag, and whenever you go into settings to search for something, it takes like two seconds to load. i don't even think this is a case by case situation here, this phone just isn't as fast as a oneplus 3, lg g5 or iphone 7 plus. again, it's not terrible, it's just not the fastest or smoothest.
I'm sure everyone has their gripes with this phone, but my main one has to deal with the overall smoothness of the device. Since day 1 it has been, at most times, horrendous. Animations are choppy at best, pulling down the notification shade is choppy, and opening apps is like watching someone stutter. Of course, doing a factory reset and rebooting every time your phone starts to slow down works, but who wants to do that every 30 minutes? Not me. But that's been my experience.
One other thing I've noticed is that any time I have a pending notification from Poke'mon Go, the phone's general smoothness comes to a choppy halt. As as soon as I dismiss the notification everything speeds up to normal -- for a short time.
I don't know what else to do. I've started really decreasing what I have and what I've put on my phone for the sake of having a smooth experience, but that's ridiculous. My phone has dwindled down to just that -- a phone. I feel like I can't do anything on it without the lags and stutters coming back to haunt my eyes. I know this phone only has 4GB of RAM, but damn. Something needs to be optimized. I can't play a game while listening to music, check an email really quick without one of the three, -- if not all -- of my apps being killed due to low RAM.
How is everyone else after the March update?
Maybe you should consider asking for a replacement cause it shouldn't be such a problem.

Before you request a RMA, I would suggest Installing the March 2019 factory image 'wipe data'.
This guide will help: [Guide] Pixel 3 XL Android 9.0 (Pie) Unlock/Root/Install Images/Kernels/Recovery + by Homeboy76
Do #4 'wipe data' then #7 or #8 to root.
Note: Use twrp-3.2.3-3 not twrp-3.2.3-4 that has problems.
Why am I recommend you wipe your phone and re-setting up your phone? Your problem might be that one of the Apps or Mods you have installed are not compatible.
Edit: After reading your response, this does not apply. rotflmao

My mistake in 'assuming' instead of asking if you had a Google Pixel3XL.
The fact you have a 'Verizon' Pixel3XL could have been mentioned in the OP. It would have helped screen your responses.
ive played with about a dozen pixel 3 and 3xls and the issue exists everywhere
some people are more sensitive to it than others.
i have literally shown people the "choppy-ness" and they dont see it, so it looks like you may be one of the ones who are more sensitive to these things.
Mine been good for the most part. After one of the updates it felt slow. To the point it was getting on my nerves. I even had to do a reset.
After March update, most is fixed. Feels like a good old pixel.
Still camera experience isn't the fastest but is better than before.
Initial turn on of app like sms, settings, phone takes time but that has always been there since day one.
I didn't notice any choppiness yet anywhere, even in Google feed.
I haven't noticed any major or unusual choppiness on mine. However, I think what apps you use has a lot you do with it. Some apps are just memory hogs and will show down your phone regardless of what it is. I have over 240 apps but none are social media nor games like Pokeman. My phone runs pretty smooth.
Sent from my Pixel 3 XL
I have a Pixel 3 and the camera still sucks after the March OTA. The camera would take forever to load the view finder. It would crash after going from camera to video mode. I have to restart the phone for the camera to work. Needless to say the March OTA did not resolve camera problems.
You are not alone my friend. The laggy-ness is unreal. This led me to want to root my phone and improve performance. I am researching all the things I can before I root. It looks doable but I'm afraid I might brick my phone.
It's a shame that your's is from Verizon. Hopefully, the April update fixes the issues.
Not only have I had this issue, but mine seems to be worse after the March update. It seems to lag the most right after I unlock it (not always), there are times I have to wait for 4+ seconds for it to become responsive. The camera still has some issues, but after using it for a while (the camera and the phone itself), it seems to get more responsive.
I've also noticed a bit of a battery drain. Now showing any apps that can be causing it. Can't say atm if this is due to the update or not as a few days I have used it more, and according to AccuBattery, my phones seems to have not fully charged last night.
This has bothered me since day one...I've come to the conclusion that chrome was a memory hog...been using opera mini , Nova launcher, disabled apps I don't use along with chrome, disabled all background activity, added home screen shortcuts instead of apps. People have blamed it on adaptive battery but now I get no choppiness even with adaptive battery on ... Worth a shot
Interesting. I've stayed on the January update because of this thread, however, I haven't had many issues with choppiness on my Google 3XL. The only time I've ever experienced any choppiness at all was when using certain custom kernels. But as of the January update, the stock kernel usually gets me at least 5 hours of intensive usage screen on time and so I haven't had the need to use a custom kernel.
And also, I'm super sensitive to choppiness as I'm a PC gamer and play everything at 165fps (and so anything under 60fps burns my eyes lol) - so it's definitely not that I'm just not seeing it.
I don’t think this is a pixel issue , more of an android one. I’m very sensitive to Jank. Hopefully android Q will help but I won’t hold my breath.
I'm playing Call of Duty Mobile and I've been experiencing frequent FPS drops from time to time while playing BR mode after the recent One UI 2.1 update which is quite annoying. Anyone else experiencing this? I was able to do a factory reset, yet the problem still persists. Any solutions? Thanks in advance.

Ui 2.1 may well, be the worst update experience ever!
Yep, I am experiencing very poor gaming on my 10 + unlocked, snapdragon variant. I've owned every note released. This one was by a lot my favorite one, after the note 7 debacle. That phone was a beautiful phone, before its time (apparently).
Ever since ui 2.1 I can hardly stand to play my pubg. I play every day, have since season 2. A couple hours every night. There is a very obvious frame rate decline, and major lag. I've tried all the typical dev options tweaks but it doesn't work. Nothing does. I've cleared cache partition, repaird the game, uninstall/ reinstall and nothing. I'm irritated to say the least.
I also HATE the keyboard. I want my stuff back! Setting up a phone to be the way you want it takes a long time. Erasing my predictive text learned words, and shifting my keyboard? Come on! Not cool. My hands muscle memory is having a hard time adjusting, becoming very slow to type. I text A LOT for work, and now I know it seems I can't spell for crap! Lol. Anyway I hope we can get this garbage fixed soon! Good luck!
Hey guys, I'm just curious if anyone has had any luck finding a fix of some sorts. Pubg Mobile is not running like it was before this stupid update. It's just so disappointing to pay over a grand for a phone so you can play a game on it and have Samsung screw it up with an update.
I tried everything you did as well, and no improvement. Is there any chance of being able to roll this back?
I think that the last firm with ui 2.0 had a bootloader 2, the firm with ui 2.1 has a bootloader 3, so, no roll back
One ui 2.1 is still TRASH!
No fix insight i guess. I've tried everything I know how to. I've tried all suggestions, and anything logical, but nothing makes it better. My pubg time at night is going on pause until this gets resolved, I can't suffer ranking down anymore! :crying:
for most stuff it isn't terrible on my unlocked UK Note 10+ 5G, but I use lawnchair and using the lawnfeed google feed or the google thing on the home home screen the frame rate can drop that low it practically locks the phone up leading to me having to force close all apps and wait a few seconds for the phone to get back to the home screen and let me use it.
in most other apps it's a couple of seconds delay on load at worst, but the google apps through lawnchair seem to lock the phone up.
so for me One UI 2.1 added nothing apart from inconvenience when I try to check the google feed. hope they fix it soon. hell I would be happy if they just reverted to the base Android UI.

I feel your pain...I've literally had to create a 2nd account to play on until this gets fixed so I don't destroy my stats...and it sucks.
I remember standing at the att store debating the Pixel 4 xl and this...needless to say, I'm not thrilled with my choice.
