Make sure you know how to ADB sideload. I'm not responsible for any damage to your phone.
Steps:
0. Make sure you are on G928AUCS4CQA1 or March update G928AUCS4CQB2 Baseband. Check this 3 times
1. Backup everything of importance on your phone!!!
2. Now, make sure you have "show file extension" enabled in Windows, and file is ready for ADB as you download SS-G928AUCS4CQA1-to-U4EQC6-UP.zip or after March 20 update SS-G928AUCS4CQB2-to-U4EQC6-UP.zip
3. Shutdown your phone
4. Enter recovery mode by pressing volume up, home and power button together
* A green Droid will appear on screen with the text Installing system update…
5. Using the Volume Button Navigate and the Power button to select ‘Apply Update from ADB’
6. Connect your phone via USB to your computer
7. Open a CMD prompt from your PC. Type cd
in my case: cd C:\Users\Norbarb\Desktop\Note5
8. Navigate to the directory that contains the update SS-G928AUCS4CQA1-to-U4EQC6-UP.zip or after March 20 update SS-G928AUCS4CQB2-to-U4EQC6-UP.zip
*Note I had issue when the directory contained a space. Moving the update to a directory with no spaces resolved the issue.
Also moved the adb driver to the same directory 'C:\Users\Norbarb\Desktop\Note5'
9. Type adb devices. You should see 1 device listed
10.Type adb sideload SS-G928AUCS4CQA1-to-U4EQC6-UP.zip or after March 20 update SS-G928AUCS4CQB2-to-U4EQC6-UP.zip
11. This took around 25 minutes to complete
12. Phone will now be updated Nougat
EDIT: Please post mirrors if you can. Thanks
Thanks again. Will try it as soon as available.
Please be reminded to upload the qa1 update. I don't think it's available anywhere

Just realised that update is AUCS4CQA1-to-U4EQC. And my build is UCU2BPE6 have you got firmware for this build by chance?
Here is donwload links to all the Odin file. Credit to the member who uploaded it. Which should bring you to pj1 directly

I can look for it tomorrow. I'm not familiar with S6E+ at all, i just find update because one of the member ask me if i can. I have no idea what is ladest available firmware for your devices. But like i said i can look for it.
Clicking from Edge of Galaxy
Seems edge+ (and probably note 5) got huge upgrade in Android 7 update. Including performance mode which is not available to gs6.
So far I noticed and worth to mention.
Camera UI renewal
Performance mode
New function from nougat, notification panel and night mode
All the Samsung app seems all redesigned
Display render resolution can be changed between 720p, fhd and wqhd
Battery is better especially for standby time
Great job from Samsung this time

So I booted twrp.img and installed magisk 17.1 and updated to magisk 17.2 beta and root is there via root checker. However, regardless of what file explorer I tried to use I cannot replace or delete files in vendor/libs or anywhere in the system folder. Can someone explained to me why and how I can overwrite files in vendor/lib?
Is the file explorer showing root permissions in Magisk? I've started running in to a similar issue recently myself. It seems random but I can view and edit some files in the root partition but there are others where I am denied access. Before a couple of weeks ago I didn't have this issue. I'm not sure when the problem started but from what I have read FX file explorer and there dedicated root addon will work. I haven't had a chance to check for myself though.
I have the same issue. I can't save my edits in build.prop.

Worked for me on stock October security patch with Magisk 17.2 and Total Commander. I use Google's default Kernel.
What has worked for me in the past was to uncheck the two radio buttons on magisk main screen. {The two advanced items} then I would press the install button right below. After doing that I would be able to change files in directories I once couldn't. Worth a shot

Thanks for the info. It works! :good:
*****ONLY WORKS FOR FIREOS 5.6.2.0 OR LOWER*****
The title says it all. I've activated the stock global actions power menu. The options need tweaking a bit still, but this was too good to wait.
For the moment, without an Xposed module, the stock options are: Airplane Mode, Settings, Lock Now, and volume. With Gravitybox, you can add power (might be stock. I noticed this after gravitybox was installed), restart (which leads to soft reboot, reboot, recovery reboot and boot loader reboot).
How?
One minor edit to the framework was all it took. The menu was disabled, the value set to 0. Change the value to 1, and you get the menu. Simply long press the power button for a couple of seconds and it will pop up.
I have been trying for so long to get this to work. I looked at the configuration dozens of times and didn't figure out what it meant until today. This needs a bit more work and can probably be added to my settings.apk, but that's for another day.
Requirements:
Rooted HD 10 on FireOS ***5.6.1.0 or 5.6.2.0****
Windows PC with ADB
Installation:
1. Download and install adbd insecure.
2. Download and place the attached framework-res.apk in your ADB folder and plug your tablet into your PC.
3. Open adbd insecure and check the top box to make adb insecure. Open an adb window and type the following, hitting enter at the end of each line:
Code:
adb remount
adb push framework-res.apk /system/framework/framework-res.apk
adb reboot
4. Long press power button. Score. :highfive:
P.S. This framework also contains all previous modifications. References:

UPDATE (for 5.6.1.0):
June 1, 2019
- Increased default system volumes from -6 db to 8
- Set preference for 5ghz wifi to false. Setting this to true only allows 5ghz connections. 2ghz are ignored if set to true.
- Fixed typo in time server I found in the system logs.
- Extend network attributes (I don't know if these actually work but doesn't hurt either way)
- Wpa_supplicant_scan_interval by default is set to 15000.... milliseconds. Raised value to 150000000. This may have been the cause of disconnects on a constant level.
- preferences prefer dual pane set to true
- Bar separating notifications from system messages was narrow (set to true). Set it to false.
- Low battery warning is now 10% instead of 25%. Extreme low battery warning (almost dead battery) set at 5%

I have updated to the latest, 5.6.3.0 (erroneously called 5.3.6.4). I guess it is risky to do this until someone tries it and says it works? I've been using retyre's prerooted installs for the last couple of releases. So if this screws things up, I would have to adb sideload and root again, which I'd like to avoid.
Ignoring that issue, can the file just be copied into the correct folder with a file manager since I'm already rooted?

There was one report of it working a week or two ago. No one has said anything since. If it doesn't work, worst case is you need to flash back to 5.6.x.x

1. If it fails, and I'm unable to boot, I will have to redo the sideload of the bin file. Then I have to reroot. As I said, I've just been using the prerooted version for the last couple of releases which means I don't have to go through extra steps to root. Since I am rooted, I just use Flashfire to flash the new prerooted version by retyre.
2. I was asking about copying the framework file that you put out there. If I ignore the problems of it possibly messing up my system, and I just want to try it anyway, why is it necessary to use Adb insecure and the PC? Since I'm rooted, can't your framework file just be copied to the correct folder?
3. Finally, can you tell me exactly what you changed in the framework? In your other thread about modifying the framework, you give some good instructions on how to decompile and recompile. I might want to try that instead of using the version that you have created here (since I'm on 5.6.3.0). Is it really just one boolean that needs to be changed?

I don't understand your answer to 3. I'm just interested in what you changed in the framework-res to get the advanced power menu. You said it's just an integer. If I decompile framework-res.apk, where is the integer that must be changed? When you said "everything else", maybe you mean all your changes in the thread about hacks, tricks, and mods? I'm not asking about those. I'm only asking about the advanced power menu that you are talking about in this thread.

If you decompile it, it would be in res/values/integers. The config would be (paraphrasing) 'long_press_on_power'. Since in this AOSP framework the global actions are active, you have a choice of values of 0 or 1. 0 being no action, 1 being the action. It's a few lines away from 'long_press_on_home' which is supposed to be between 0 and 3. 2 would activate the voice assist. But for some reason I haven't figured out, setting that value does nothing one way or the other but gravitybox fixes it.
You can change around the global action menu too I saw, but didn't have time to experiment with that yesterday.
@DragonFire1024
Nice hack! Like your new power menu - always wanted something like that!
Now, given that it'd be such a burden to update this for every FireOS version, any chance you'd take a stab at putting this together as an Xposed module? Other rooted Fire tablets could use it too.
I recall sometime in the past there were modules designed for FireOS - if you find that on XDA, you could start from that one.

I have not. I rarely touch that at least not Amazon smali. It doesn't translate well at all. And haven't really had to so far. And the framework is odexed...well the .jar in system/framework is, so they don't have smalis.

Gravity box might work - AFTER your framework-res.apk replacement (which needs updating after each OS version). As is, for me Gravity does not bring anything out beyond the stock "Power off" option. It seems a module could simply patch framework with the correct flag, and then Gravity will do its thing. Same logic would apply to other features that Amazon might have chosen to disable.

Install framework in OP then you need to enable the advanced power menu in gravitybox, power tweaks. Then long press power button, tap restart, then you get your options for reboot.

Also for the most part Amazon just moved configurations around maybe changed a few characters or couple of words. But for the most part a significant portion if not almost all of the Android source for this version was left inside these files. There are very few things I actually had to rebuild. The battery stats is one of those things. Other things are more difficult and require other pieces of software, for example specific apks. That took quite a lot of time to hunt down working versions of certain apks. Remember we are working with what is considered a stone age OS version. So we have to literally search for needles and haystacks just to find the one tiny thing that makes it all work... Well at least some of it
Gosh, I tried for a long time to decompile/recompile framework-res.apk (5.6.3.0)...no luck! I'm using your instructions in post 2 in the 7 wallpaper thread as a guideline. I can decompile successfully. Then, even without making any changes at all, recompile does not work. I won't bother to put the error display here unless you're interested. (systemui.apk fails on the recompile also, but in a different way). A "regular application" will decompile and recompile just fine.
So I have no idea what's wrong. I do have xposed/gravitybox installed, and I wonder if that causes the problem (but it sounds like have those also?). Or some change to 5.6.3.0 that you did not encounter with prior releases. I'm wondering if you can upload your framework-res.apk somewhere so that I can try that. At least that would narrow it down to the new release or my error.
There are lots of posts about this kind of problem, but they mostly talk about wrong paths, etc. That is definitely not my issue.
I had downloaded the most recent apktool, 2.3.4. Just for fun, I just tried 2.2.0. There are 4 warnings, but otherwise, it worked. I haven't tried to install the new framework, so I can't be sure all is okay, but it's certainly a good sign. I will also try more recent versions of apktool, i.e. ones between 2.2.0 and 2.3.4, and see where it went wrong.
EDIT: 2.3.2 and earlier are good, 2.3.3 and 2.3.4 are bad.

If it ain't one thing, it's another! After changing the integer, I'm trying to drag and drop with 7zip from the new apk to the old, as you described in your other thread. For resources.arsc, it works as you said, i.e. it asks if I'm sure I want to copy. But for the res folder, it doesn't ask me anything and just starts extracting into the old. I cancel it before it can complete.
Do you recall doing something different for the res folder? I could be on a different 7zip version than you, of course. I've used 7zip, but I'm not that familiar with it.
EDIT2: I don't think a notification is done if my edit gets combined with my prior post. I tried both reply and quick reply, and both ended up combining. Can someone tell me how to make it do a new post? Or maybe I'm wrong and another notification occurs, in which case, ignore this!

Lol it's going to take a bit to get used to everything. I actually had messed around with apktool when I first started all this and got so frustrated I just stopped trying. 6 months after that I tried again and it took me a week or so before I successfully compiled and installed a system apk. My initial goal was to use this method to try and trick a non rooted tablet into thinking it was installing an update to a system app. Though it worked on rooted devices, I could never get it to work for non rooted ones. Don't give up,keep trying and re check everything, especially make sure your PATH to the proper tools is correct. I'll look at the latest fireOS framework tomorrow.
P.S. without any further modifications, I tested APM+ Xposed module and it works too. You can add and remove all the optioions plus add different ones depending on the module. No further tweaking needed on my end.
Okay, when dragging and dropping res, it does finally ask if I really want to copy AFTER it takes quite a while "extracting". I was confusing extracting with unzipping or unpacking...or some other term that would imply it was changing the format. I'm still not sure if it's doing it properly, but I'll keep trying. And I'd still like to know how to make these combined posts cause a notification, and if not, how can I force it to.
So, grabbed the latest OTA, and went through the usual re-root cycle, but was unable to edit the build.prop. While /root is mountable, /root/system is not, which means no tethering for me.
Anyone else running into the same issue?
I have the same issue, I've been fighting with it all day.
I patched the boot.img with Magisk Manager and flashed it, Magisk Manager show's I'm installed and Root Checker says I'm rooted, I was even able to install Adaway. But i cannot use any root app that needs to mount /System
I tried using Root Uninstaller and it says it has root access but cannot mount /system as R/W
It seems Magisk is only able to partially root on Android 10
I tried this with the Canary version and the standard version of Magisk and the same issue both times
Same issue on regular pixel:
sailfish:/ # mount -o remount,rw /system
'/dev/block/sda33' is read-only
lame

if all you want to do is edit a prop in build.prop, just use the Magisk module MagiskHidePropsConfig....works like a charm (at least it did on Android 9 - assume it would work on 10....it sounded like it worked on the betas)....
https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/module-magiskhide-props-config-t3789228
This has been a problem since the Q beta came out, with each update I tried to figure something out. With no luck! I tried the Magisk Mod but it didn't seem to work.
suggestions would be most appreciated!!
Thinkin about a clean install....maybe.....
Edit: It was also a problem with the P beta until it was out of beta (That was my hope for this)

I'm trying to add a prop, which seems like a different need, but will look into it.

Was thinking about this, but realized a clean install for every update isn't worth a hotspot to me.

It doesn't physically change anything in system. The intent is to offer the same functionality as physically editing the build.prop without modifying that file. It creates the prop and value setting and loads into into memory at boot time.....(similar to the way the build.prop file is read at boot time for those settings.) At least that is my understanding. It works for me on Android 9 for setting the prop for tethering...for example. You can confirm it works by using the getprop command to verify the prop you set is set as you intended.
Welp, still can't mount /system or edit the file directly, but PropsConfig seems to be good enough for my needs.

Can you tell me what the process is that got you tethering capability?
Having the same issue on my P2XL which was upgraded via flash of full image minus -w. Using latest canary build of Magisk. I couldn't mount system or anything under it.
I then downgraded Magisk to v19.3 and had no issues mounting system using FX File Explorer, etc. and still had root. But I couldn't mount anything under system so I still can't edit build.prop.
For those who are just trying to find a way to get hotspot working (via build.prop edit), try this...worked for me on a dirty upgrade (A9 -> A10 via full image flash without -w) + latest Magisk Canary:

Thanks for posting this, it worked great on my Pixel XL on Sprint. I had about given up on being able to edit the build.prop.
You no longer need the canary version of Magisk. Version 20.00 will rebuild your boot.img and if you load busybox and use a terminal type "props" and follow the onscreen menu. you can get your tethering back. My output:
Your prop

Are you sure that your screenshot of the props output is correct? Because it looks like you have the value set to "net.tethering.noprovisioning" and the prop name has =true in it. I'm just trying to figure this out because I've tried this and everything else trying to get my hotspot to work. My hotspot will turn on and devices can connect to it, but they don't have internet access. Any ideas at all?
Edit: Nevermind, I had the custom prop set to post fs data when it was supposed to be set at boot stage (default). My hotspot is working now. Thank you all.

This seems to have worked for me, though I don't really understand why or what did it.
For any dummies like me that happen to fall on this post after their build.prop seems to fail to save. The link above to: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=75238542&postcount=59 worked for me.
download

I have to run twrp from cmd line since my Pixel XL refuses to install it using command::
.... fastboot boot twrp.img
and installing the zip file above > rebooting
back to cmd line
> adb shell
> settings put global tether_dun_required 0
> reboot
swipe notifications bar and turn on hotspot and wamo she's kicking.
Thanks guys
I haven't been beating my head too hard this time around. Many thanks to the brains that are keeping the rest of us dummies excited to keep tinkering about with our androids!

Selinux doesn't work but o well never really care about whether it is enforced or disabled much anyway I did once manage to get selinux working through prop edits... or once using an app but fingerprint stopped working
Most other things seems to be working fine which is great
Official crdroid for Marmite has same issue but it is older version
Sometimes the torch stop working reboot fixes it and restarting system ui crashes the entire os repeatedly so this requires a reboot using the actual buttons
This is probably the best Android 9 rom for the swift 2 so much cool functionality and it would be sik to use a stable crdroid 6 Marmite rom

READ EVERYTHING FIRST NOT IN CHRONOLOGICAL ORDER Assuming you're on marmite you will have to go to XDA and go on Wileyfox Swift 2 ROMs, Kernels, Recoveries, & Other Development then click on lineage 15.1 rom download TWRP 3.2.3 from the link near to it this TWRP is the best one coz it can read the internal storage official TWRP is 3.3.1 but doesn't support internal storage so its not good once you have done that go to magisk.me and then download the magisk 20.4 flashabke zip file. Then next part is annoyimg. You will need a pc there is an app on the phone but i have never tested it and you probably not gonna have 2 phones in he first place maybe a tablet but anyway you will have download minimal adb and fastboot from any site that you think is appropriate your phones drivers should automatically install unless you have a bad os or something if they don't you will need to look into how to find your phones driver with research but you may not find them even after doing that anyway so assuming you have minimal adb and fastboot running and your phone s drivers are installed to confirm whether it has worked type in adb devices and press enter your device should come up as connected also I forgot to mention you need to on to about phone on settings system on build number a few times to unlock developer options the go to settings system developer options Enable Android debugging back to before once you have typed in adb devices a popup may come in your phone press yes allow in future option if you trust the device you're using once you press yes your device is usable you need to enable USB mass storage and copy twrp to your computer now for Windows 10 as I've only done this on windows 10 press on start and locate minimal adb and fastboot right click on it and press open file location if it comes up with the shortcut which I'm guessing it has right click on minimal adb shortcut and then open file location you will need to copy the TWRP file to there and rename the TWRP IMG to twrp.img go back to minimal adb and fastboot and also put your phone in fastboot mode now I think as soon as you turn your phone off it should go to fastboot mode if not then search how to do it coz I can't be asked writing every detail. Your phone will be factory data reset in the process this is for data security we'll come back to that later you may lose your warranty but that's not a problem if you know how to take care of your phone now on minimal and and fastboot type in fastboot oem unlock you should backup your data first go on settings system backup assuming you have Google services and play installed which I'm pretty sure you do all your data will be backed up and restored once you restore from cloud on the setup process after resetting coz of unlocked bootloader. Once you have accepted the bootloader unlock and it has been successfully unlocked turn if the device plug it in computer and type in on minimal
ADB and fastboot type in fastboot flash recovery
twrp.img now if you copied the files
In the correct directory as described before the recovery should have installed in a few seconds one problem is at the start the recovery might be getting replaced by stock recovery but after entering it a few times using power button and volume down button simultaneously should take you to the recovery you are going to see a message on your phone saying bootloader unlocked blah blah blah wait a few seconds or press power button and you will be in the recovery now your device may be encrypted type in your phone password/pin and you will be able to read internal storage press on select storage internal storage and press on download folder and then press on the magisk file you downloaded the swipe to install and you are installing root using magisk you should keep your device encrypted for security purposes now that you have twrp it can be used to bypass your screen unlock unless you have encrypted your device my marmite device encrypted the device automatically on the stock operating system another thing is that if you want to use your banking app go onto settings hide magisk manager option press ok and then the name of the magisk manager app should now be manager also go back to the settings and snake magisk hide option then restart the app and then go to the menu icon and magisk hide and then press in the app you want access to it should now be ticked and root should be hidden from the app my guide isn't perfectly layed but should have the important information you need know was writing it from the top of my head without punctuation:good:
i have ready 3.2.3-0. ONLY 3.2.2 ITS OK ?
