I've been using the mi max 3 on tmobile since the beginning of September. Have loved it, big screen, huge battery, good camera. But in the past week I've noticed at work my LTE randomly dropping while at work. I've been using it with strong signal just fine up to this point but now while in my pocket the LTE dies and I'm on what seem to be edge speeds.
I factory reset the phone, and within a day the problem reappeared with only a half dozen apps installed. I was able to restore LTE intermittently by toggling airplane mode on for a half minute then off, but now even this doesn't work. I know there's band 4 coverage where I work. Does anyone have any troubleshooting ideas?

Do you have Prefer LTE selected on your Preferred Network Type in your sim settings for your current sim?
I do. I've tried swapping from the default apn (the one displayed in one of the accompanying pictures) to another and back, which also sometimes fixes the issue. Finally I've tried deselecting select networks automatically which makes it reaqcuire LTE randomly. However all of these fixes fail to provide reliable results, and often I find when I take my phone out on a break after it being in my pocket for awhile I'm looking at no LTE.
Edit: I've tried the one more straightforward fix by switching from sim slot 2 (with an SD card in the hybrid slot 1) to no SD card with the sim in slot 1. I can't see this being relevant but grasping at straws to keep from going back to my mi mix. Love that phone and all but this battery is too good to pass up if I can help it.

Try enabling volte. Not sure if it might help, but try anyway. Dial *#*#86583#*#* in your dialer.
Also already enabled. I'm not sure if it's because I have the Chinese rom but it displays as "HD" above the cellular bars, rather than volte, even though my mix on miui 10 just displays volte.
Try checking cellmaper ( https://www.cellmapper.net/Index ) to see if the T Mobile tower near your office has been moved. It's very common for the big carriers to rent space on suitable structures for their equipment rather than owning the towers outright. When leasing arrangements are up for renewal, a carrier may choose to move to a competing tower owner. That happened to me on AT&T. They had equipment on one tower to serve 2 small communities and chose to relocate farther away from both communities. There was no notice, just a very weak or non-existent cell signal. Customer service seemed to take a back seat to reducing costs, even though those costs were a valid business expense and tax deductible. US businesses just don't see value in customer goodwill in this era of courts only protecting stockholders.

I suppose this is an outcome I might have to accept. It's frustrating, because I went around with my prior phone double checking what the dominant LTE band in use was in my area, but there's little to be done for it. I wish the US had better selections for domestic offerings.

Not really a Desire specific question, but I'm on the cusp of switching from T-Mobile to Three because of the former's incredibly poor 3G coverage. I've got a Three PAYG sim and have been trying it in various areas over the last few days and have noticed that it sometimes roams to another network.
My searching suggests it does this when there's no 3G reception as Three don't have any 2G hardware of their own, which is fine, but I can't seem to find any answers as to whether it's safe to continue using data while roaming?
Will I be charged if I continue to use the data connection or is that all covered under Three's roaming agreements and will just come out of data allowance as normal?
I don't believe you will be charged for data roaming onto Orange.
That being said, 3 and T-Mobile are in the process of merging their 3G networks (note, *only* 3G) and Orange and T-Mobile are in the process of merging companies. Therefore, whichever way you go, you'll likely find you coverage is the same in the long term.
Regards,
Dave
3 UK
You don't get charged extra for data while roaming within the UK on 3. We have used several 3 sims for 18 months in Hero, HD and a Desire. I've also been using a T-Mo one in the Desire for the past 3 weeks and T-Mo is much better signal coverage than 3 on both 2 and 3 G.
Often on 3 downloads and updates over data just fail. Calls drop out a lot compared with T-Mo. I ended up setting the phone to use 2G only with the 3 sim just to stop calls dropping every time I got near to a 3G mast (as it tries to switch between 2 and 3 G). Also the battery life is much better with the T-Mo sim, presumably due to it not spending so much time and resource trying to find the native 3 signals.
I'm moving to T-Mo for all our phones, usefully they seem to have the best deals at the moment as well!
Thanks for the replies.
I do know that T-Mob and Orange are merging, and right now I'm on a very attractive £5/month deal that was one of their "don't leave us" deals. The thing is when I called to get my PAC code (and was offered the deal) my main reason for leaving was their crappy 3G. The woman on the other end assured me that on the 1st of April the networks would be merged and it would be as simple as the engineers flipping a switch. Being in the tech industry myself I was very sceptical at this claim but the £5/month offer was too good to pass up and I made sure there was no contract term.
Needless to say, the 1st of April came and went and the network didn't improve so I'm off. I'm only going to PAYG so I can return the moment they do finally sort their sh*t out. It won't be for £5/month but I can live with that.
Edit: No sooner than I post the above, this comes along: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2010/05/11/orange_tmobile_combined/
The first benefit customers will notice will come later this year when they will be able to roam on each other's networks at no extra cost.

Of course "later this year" could well mean December. So do I hang on for this or jump ship and return later? Decisions, decisions.
Resurrecting the thread because I thought people might be interested...
I do a lot of Geocaching, which is why a good 3G network is important to me; so on Saturday I took my Desire with a PAYG Three SIM and my Touch HD with a T-Mobile SIM and went caching.
We went to two places where I knew the T-Mobile signal was patchy, and in both places I continued to get 3G on Three. The signal was weak, but it was enough to quickly load caches, whereas T-Mobile struggled along on 2G barely pulling any data at all. The final place we went to had full signal for both networks.
Of course that really doesn't make any sense considering Three and T-Mobile's 3G mast sharing agreement, but there it was. With the evidence in hand I've got my PAC code and am switching full-time to Three. I may return when they finally merge networks with Orange, but we'll see.
Dear T-Mobile Note 2 Fans,
I absolutely love my Tmo Note 2.
However, I have one issue that's bringing me great distress and that I hope the community can point me toward a resolution.
I get no to very weak intermittent signal (no bar) at my home. Other places, I get normal signal.
Phone:
My phone has the latest stock T889UVBMD1. It's rooted. Immaculate. Never been dropped.
T-Mobile Coverage:
There's excellent T-Mobile coverage at my home area 2G/3G/4G/LTE.
Experiments:
I have taken my sim out, and inserted it into my wife's T-Mobile HTC One, and have gotten full bar 4G/LTE strong signal. Hence, This exclude possibility of bad sim or poor T-Mobile coverage in the area.
I have installed other modems (BMB4, VALL4) to no avail.
I have installed other roms (Jedi Master 16 to no avail.
I have used KIES to completely restore my phone back to factory state to no avail.
I have tried going into Setting ---> Network Mode and changed the settings to no avail
I have tried going into Service Mode via *#2263# and tried to force it to LTE/WDMA and WDMA ALL mode but to no avail.
I have used Open Signal app on both my wife's HTC One and my Note 2. It seems like the HTC One is connecting to the nearest cell tower. Hence, the strong signal connection. Whereas, the Note 2 is not connecting to the nearest possible cell tower.
Please kindly help me resolve this issue. Any other places aside from my home, my phone works perfectly fine. At home, I get no to very weak non-usable signal.
Many thanks in advance.
I had the same problem, what worked for me was going into network settings *#2263# and selecting (2) wmcda - all
I get full signal everywhere now & still connect to lte on the data side.
Thank you for the suggestion. I did try *#2263# but to no avail. Zero bar
As if there's an invisible force field around my house preventing JUST my Note 2 from the network.

Seems like the internal antenna is having an issue. Hmm, is it overheating?
Only reason I ask is I ran into this issue but with my old GS3. The antenna portion of the phone was burning up at times and not sure why exactly. So I decided Root the phone which resulted in a lost IMEI, injected it back in, still no signal and still the phone was still burning up. Long story short I just eventually just ended up taking it back to Tits-Mobile.

What worked for me was turning off lte, leaving at max 4g. My signal went from half to full.

Hi Sam...thank you for replying.
My Note doesn't overheat anymore than usual. It's operating nice and cool. I don't stress it out much...just the usual email, text, phone, web...and the occasional Candy Crush.

many people I've known all have experienced the same shiiiiiit from tmobile
i think tmobile is playing game on its users
tmobile knows where we live and reduce signal ....tmobile knows at home we gonna jamp their bandwidth ....cause we're on unlimitted plan
let's dump tmobile and go for Gosmart
Is that possible? I'm on the $70 PrePaid unlimited plan. There shouldn't be any throttling.
When I do take my sim out of the Note 2 and insert it into my wife's HTC One at home, I do get full bar speedy connection.
Perhaps, they are throttling base on the IMEI of the device, rather than, sim. That's just pure speculation on my part.

mine is on $70 pre-paid as well...but can't watch Youtube without having buffering; annoying and embarrassing
my coworkers are on Gosmart $45-plans and watch movie online just fine.
My N2 all test speed @ 20Mbps ....but it's just for show; there is no use.....cause when I tried to download a file just 40Mb....it takes way too long relatively to its speed test.
I think the name Gosmart is realy "go smart"
hi all,
stock 551ML no root, the calls running on SIM1 (4G) gets disconnected after 5/10 minutes. i suddenly see the radio bars disappearing, i can't hear anymore the called party, and then the call drops. Tried with 2 different carriers on SIM1. The phone is always enabled with 2 SIM's, but on the second one (whatever the carrier is) there's no such problem. I think this phone has large issues when dealing with 2G/3G/4G swap, signal quality on SIM1 is terrible (tested in comparison with wife's iphone6+ with same carrier same location) and often i lose signal on SIM1. Definitely not a work phone in this way. any idea? can a full reset improve the situation?
Please ensure firmware is updated to latest version. Next please try performing a hardware reset including cache wipe partition. http://www.asus.com/us/support/FAQ/1011956/
If the problem continues then it may be a hardware issue with the SIM slot and will require RMA service.
Sincerely
ASUS_USA

after few weeks i can say more about this issue, on SIM1 the 4G slot. (stock phone updated and wiped completely)
1) carrier signal reception has now slightly improved with .59 and .63 update
2) problems on switching from 4G to 3G still there, when 4G signal is poor the phone is not able to detect it, and tries and tries and tries sending data to nowhere. after a minute or so, switch to 3G happens and i got network connectivity again
3) comparison with iphone6+, samsungS5 and sonyZ3 (same network, same location) is still terrible, while i got no network, iphone does and loads the pages, slowly but it loads the full page. i think here is the price difference between the two -> antenna, radio, optimized software for any signal condition
4) under bad (bad from a 551ML point of view) signal conditions the battery drains a lot more faster, and that's fine but at least i would like to use the phone, to receive calls, messages, whatsapp and so on.
5) during a call on SIM1, it still happens that signal disappear and i the call is dropped, less frequently than i had before .59 update, but still happens.
6) i'm calling using SIM2 BTW, SIM2 on 2G has no issues.
i will be soon able to compare with honor7 (it should have a very good optimization on the radio part) and let you know.
bye
I am on AT&T in the US and having a similar problem and hoping someone can help except for me it is SIM 2 that is the problem and for me it is at home. Last night I was on a call that kept dropping, and it was not a good thing at all and I had to end the call. I pretty much cannot sustain SIM 2 calls in my house but SIM 2 elsewhere is okay; calls on SIM 1 are perfectly fine and with my previous phones (Note 3, iPhone, Windows Lumia 1520) no reception problem history ever at all. So this clearly is a device issue and not an AT&T issue as I get good coverage in my house. I had two phones up until a month ago when I opted to consolidate by getting the ZF2.SIM1 is perfectly fine most of the time-I've never dropped a call although a couple times I have to say I've not heard as well for a moment as I could, so I question if my house and the Zenfone2 are a good match, although that is really a weird thing as I live in a major suburban metro area that is not a coverage problem in any way shape or form with any dead spot problems, so I am wondering if something is wrong with my hardware and I need to exchange my phone. I'm going to have to pop my SIM 1 back into my Note 3 in the interim and forward calls on my second line in the interim in the meantime if that's the case . (my windows phone takes a nano SIM) and send my ZF2 back for an exchange Should I do a hard reset? Why would my house be a problem? It's not a dead spot area or remote or anything like that. I really like this phone already got a new SIM 2 card once before when I had problems at first but it seemed to be better until I then tried to make a c all yesterday and it wouldn't work.Could my phone be defective? Hard reset?? My software is up to date.

Glad to hear things worked out for you. My situation didn't work out. I just returned the Zenfone yesterday. I had gotten the replacement phone through ASUS, still replaced yet another SIM card, and the problem with my SIM 2 persisted and got even worse. For me, the SIM slot being 2G did turn out to be the destructive feature of the device. My area is too upgraded for it apparently. You're the only other person I've come across that has referenced SIM 2 usage to me, so I get the sense that most people are just using the ZF2 as a single SIM and don't have a second phone line or data line. Therefore I can understand people being happy overall as it's a decent device for a single SIM user. You are lucky that your SIM 2 coverage is good everywhere. Mine was good in some areas but certainly not in and around my house and there my SIM 2 was unable to sustain phone calls. I didn't care about data-I only wanted phone calls but I couldn't do calls even.I had no cellular connection and my SIM 2 would X out and drop off all the time.
I never had a problem with SIM 1. I always got calls just fine and I found that ASUS always provided updates and I noticed changes in battery life. I was pleased in every other regard but the very purpose that I bought the phone for -to be able to get calls to both my phone lines. I do think ASUS dropped the ball with the 2G slot and need to make their next model with both slots supporting LTE. They me might get me back as a customer if they do.

It looks like I am not the only one who has the sim 2 signal issue. My phone has this issue from day one, the signal of sim 2 just comes and goes all the time. Software update doesn't help at all. I've also tried putting a new sim card, but still have the same problem. I think this is a hardware issue.
My Galaxy Note 5 SM-N920I purchased December of 2015 can no longer make or receieve calls. My provider is TracFone via the Bring Your Own Phone program. I use their SIM card and it has worked all this time. Until recently the phones features have stopped working. I think they have been disabling the 3G in my area, as everyone is converting to 4G now.
Note 5 is supposed to support 4G but it's definitely been having issues. Text and internet still works. however texts are sometimes delayed on occasion, not always, usually it's fine. Data speed just now was tested at 10 mbps down, 3 mbps up. Signal bars are consistently low, regardless of physical location; inside, outside, other side of town, SIM status shows signal always between -108dBm and -118dBm. This is likely why I cannot make or receive calls, but the question is, why is this happening?
Like I said, I suspect they are shutting down 3G in this area, so the best theory I've been able to come up with is this: perhaps 4G has always sucked on this phone but I never noticed because it would fall back to the good 3G connection. Now that 3G is gone in this area, all I have to use is 4G which is a shoddy connection.
Further research has found in the early days of this phone there were numerous reports of weak/no signal. See these threads:
Fed Up With Terrible Reception
Hey all, I'm kind of venting here and at the same time hoping for some sort of direction because I'm absolutely fed up with my S6. I upgraded roughly a month and a half ago from an S4. My phone usage was below normal for the first week or two as I was busy with a variety of projects. As my...

No signal/network on my note 5
Hi everyone, so I just got this note 5 N920P last two weeks but I noticed its OS was lollipop...waited for updates for 7.0 but nothing so I went ahead and downloaded Odin with latest firmware from samobile and did it my self, now here the problems start to show first of all this hands free...
forums.androidcentral.com
One theory was that the 4G antenna they used in the Note 5 / S6 was of poor design. Causing weak signal.
Things I have tried and did not work:
-Contacted TracFone. They confirmed the device is supported and provisioned correctly. They recommended a new SIM card.
-Replaced the SIM card with a brand new one
-Factory reset the device. It's running the stock Android 7.0 Nougat which was the last up to date version available.
-Tinkered with various service menus including *#2263# and *#0011#. Messing about with the LTE band settings didn't change the signal strength ever. Regardless of the LTE band, it stays in that -108 to -118 range, too weak for calling.
What can be done to fix this? Possible ideas:
-Internal antenna replacement, but this seems either expensive to have someone do, or extremely difficult to do oneself. Would it even make a difference? Has anyone tried this?
-Software. Could the issue have been introduced during one of the software updates? Planned obsolescence perhaps? Could we revert to an earlier firmware to potentially resolve this? has anyone tried this?
-Firmware. Could we upgrade the firmware to a later, unsupported version safely? Perhaps the issue was fixd in later Android versions but has not been adressed in older devices that are no longer updated.
I'm the kind of person who likes to use my things until they absolutely die. This Note 5 has been perfectly fine until recently. There is nothing wrong with it. It's still modern, fast, and has a great camera. I would HATE to have to replace a phone for such a stupid reason. Not only is money tight, but it's such a waste when this thing is still perfect apart from this weak 4G signal.
Has anyone else had this issue? Have you resolved it? Any help appreciated. Thank you.
Try a network reset.

Hi,
I never had any issue with the Pixel 6 Pro so far unlike other users but it all started few months ago when I noticed that the network kept dropping randomly, sometimes I used to get "no service" in an area where I used to get 4G at full speed. I did wait for the July update to solve the issue but it never did. Right now I am on the August update that has been released recently but I see no difference. I cannot do a smooth phone call on my data as the network keeps dropping continually. Sometimes I am on 4G, the second later I am on H. I did think that maybe it was the network I was on, Vodafone at that time, so I switched to EE, here in the UK it is considered to be the best one. Still I am facing the same issue, then I can assume it is the phone. I have tried to follow every guide I have found on the web, but nothing seems to work for me. It is annoying that when you need to get something on the phone I need to wait for the phone to go randomly back on 4G hoping that I will stay on it until I get what I need. I have attached the video that I have recorded where I am in the town centre, where I can easily get 5G but the phone keeps dropping the network.
I use ESIM as well, and I have the same issue with it.
Has anyone had the same issue? How can I solve it? Has anyone tried Android 13 Beta? Does it solve some bugs that we have right now on Android 12?
I am really annoyed because of this issue I am facing right now, I love this phone but I am seriously thinking to sell it due to this bug.

In denmark, mine also randomly get the no service and no sim, but it is the imr registration ther fails and i beeing kicked off the celluar network. that is thanks to googles phone are not sold in your country, so you got the finger by google...
I will work with jailbreak and so on, but many apps will stop working,.
For now my pixel 6 pro, are living a sad life in its box, replaced by a oneplus 10 pro, without any of theese issues..
it is a bit sad, the pixel 6 pro is at god phone, but google giving pepole the finger, if you buy the phone somwhere google are not selling it, i dont get it.. it is basic stuff expecting to work, the culluar no mattewr where you buy it.
I have a P6Pro, also on EE in the UK.
I had spotty network performance in the early days, but after jumping to the 13 beta it's worked flawlessly.
Unsure if this is because of A13 or due to EE "doing work in my area" as they're often prone to doing.
I'd speak to EE first, then perhaps speak to Google via the support button in settings - they offered to swap my handset out for me (I didn't swap it out in the end).

When I was on Vodafone I had the same text from them, still after their ' solved ' the network issues, nothing really changed for me. Yeah I have the same issue as you are reporting, three drops in city on the train on the way to work. Just get the exclamation mark, does not seem to self recover, I go into the SIM and disable it, then enable it again, and it instantly jumps to full 5G signal. I do note that it is more reliable for me when I turn off 5G completely, and just use 4G, then it drops back to 3G but doesn't completely stop.
I think majority of connectivity on this device is crap. WIFI is hit and miss. Bluetooth is atrocious, super slow to connect to some older devices, was fine when the phone first came out with early firmware. Pairing devices is hit and miss and also new pairing.

I do agree with you for the connectivity, it feels like they have picked random parts for the phone just to launch it as soon as they could. The money they spent on advertisement could have been spent better on the hardware.
Do you use dual sim? As I have read, the phone struggles more with two sims

I have only had one SIM acitvated at a time at this stage, was having issues with trying to activate my Samsung smart watch activating 4G, so switched to physical sim, for easier troubleshooting with other mobile devices, maybe physical SIM is worse in this device

Hi,
I never had any issue with the Pixel 6 Pro so far unlike other users but it all started few months ago when I noticed that the network kept dropping randomly, sometimes I used to get "no service" in an area where I used to get 4G at full speed.

Yup had this. Ask for a replacement. Never happen again since the phone was replaced.

4G on the second sim is always off. I will try to test it turning the sim off and will let you know, thanks.

Update: the signal improve drastically on the main sim by keeping 2G or 3G on the eSIM but that generates a new problem, the eSIM drops the network on normal phone calls, it is not stable at all, if I call a number it rings after 10-15 seconds. I do not receive calls sometimes. It is just a mess.
Had the same problem, calls droppping or not being able to answer calls.
I had KPN as a physical sim and Simyo as a eSim.
I did resolve the issue, I understand this is not an actual "fix", but thought i'd mention it.
I changed providers from Simyo to Simpel, now I have Simpel as physical and KPN as eSim.
Since then no more problems also the option to turn on wifi calling showed up, so I think the p6p just wasn't playing nice with that specific provider.
I get random total drops of data and voice connection. If I hit Airplane mode on and off, it reconnects. Maybe the phone doesn't switch well between towers? I am on Google Fi.
Between the glitches and the lack of timely updates, and the abysmal battery life, I think this will be my last Pixel phone.
It barely lasts a full day with relatively light use, but if I use Maps and listen to Youtube (screen off) ad take photos in a new town, it dies within 6 hours or less. It has a great camera, but it's not useful for travel, because it dies so quickly.
I am having the same problem with my Google pixel 6 pro and it's been happening since I think the OS 11 certainly 12 and now 13. And I have AT&T service. But I can switch from my home Wi-Fi go outside of my car sit in my car for a while then all of a sudden the little! Comes up near the date of bars on my phone and use it after driving about 10 minutes or so it automatically will reconnect to the cell tower and get data. Sometimes I get well most of the time voicemails that people leave for me I don't get a notification until I reboot my phone. I actually put my phone in my right ear I can hear it loud and clear I switch it over to my left ear and it drops down by about 50% less volume I actually went and had a ear test done and they told me my hearing was perfect in both ears so I don't know what the hell it is with this phone but now I'd spent all this money going to the ear doctor thinking I was going deaf in one ear. Never had this kind of problems with my Note 4
I find in caernarfon I get good phone signal if i go to Bangor Tesco or sports direct in Bangor I get the exclamation point mark in phone signal and can't use it but signal has always been rubbish there I'm on ee
