disable the camera - Nexus 5X Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i know it's a little weird question but, hot can i disable both cameras of the 5x deleting some libraries or some file so the camera won't work on any app

Remove libraries could make some trouble. However, there is an easier way to do that, you may consider that use device policy to disable camera (just go play store and search nocam )

Actually this app is doing something on system level via device manager api and cant be simply override (without system permission or above),you may also consider using xposed.
Reference:Android developer -Device Manager.

You need to build android with nuking the camera which is not that hard, I can do a build for you if you want, just join the pixel experience group for bullhead and ask for francois.

Screen Overlay Detected

If this is in the wrong thread then please move to correct one.
Has anyone else had issues with this... I'll call it problem, but by the way it behaves, it seems more like its a bug.
It has only been something I've seen on Marshmallow. Try to install an app, and its 50/50 whether or not you get "screen overlay detected"
Try to give an app permission, "screen overlay detected".
I should also point out that it isnt just restricted to HTC. My partners (now apparently ticking time bomb) s7 has also had the issue
You can disable as many screen overlays as you like, it still doesnt go away.
I've noticed now, too, that anytime a chat head from facebook messenger is on screen when I try to do something like install an app, it will spit out that problem until I close the chat head. Which was never an issue, ever, before.
Where has this thing come from and why is it even a problem for Android?
Those chat heads on the messenger as well as light filters, as e.g. CF.lumen, are always screen overlays. Those overlays could read out the whole screen, and thus as well what you're typing into banking apps or similar. Thus Google updated the privacy policy of their devices in Marshmallow, ending up in this specific error message. Sometimes it's enough to just turn the screen overlay of via settings > apps, regarding Apps like FB Messenger, CF.lumen, and the like, on other times and Apps you got to reboot the device after done so, or disable the overlay within the Apps settings as well, and seldomly you got to uninstall such an App to get the problem sorted for the time being. At least that's what I could find out searching the web.

It's so malicious apps don't replace the install button with something else (like an install button to install something else).
It's quite clever if you think about it.

In theory I would say it's clever. In practice, it doesn't distinguish between safe apps that are harmless and those that aren't.

Since Facebook messenger (and pretty much all my apps, most of which don't even have screen overlays but are in the list for it) was downloaded from Google play, I would imagine it isn't difficult to implement a system that flags it as safe.
If an app is installed via an apk, even if it is safe, I would understand more the need for concern. You never know, etc.

It would be difficult to implement a system like that. You never know which app is fake or real. Maybe it was a modified version of the app, you'll never know.
Either way, the feature is there and if you want to install an app just quickly turn off your overlay. Not exactly a big problem.

I second this.
no special rom, just used adb/fastboot tools to uninstall - can't put links here for some reason, but just google it - its on github. Super simple, graphical interface. If you uninstall, it saves the .apk's so you can reinstall if necessary
The tool is called Saki tools
The tool that I always use is called saki tools, available on github. I'm sure he uses this also. It's great.
Just enable usb debugging on phone, open the application on pc and allow usb debugging, delete whatever you want.
Hopefully this clears up some confusion.
https://github.com/Szaki/XiaomiADBFastbootTools/releases/tag/6.8.1
Not called Saki tools, its made by a developer names SZaki - its called Xiaomi ADB Fastboot Tools. but yes, thats the link. (why can i not post links?)

For which version of miui?
Could you make as it.bat files for one click usage, yeah Miui also tend to change Apk names randomly each version update so you need to make different [.bat] for each miui versions. I did has my own personal list. Personally tested but outdated for already sold whyred.
You could make one click with options wizard
[remove extra Google app]
[total remove Google (Unsafe, for some one who want reinstall to microg/bitsGapps/picoGAPPs, make sure you already logout Google and has other keyboard installed) ]
[remove extra miui]
[total remove miui apps(make sure you got another launcher and logout miui account)]
[remove all non miui/Google bloats (Ie. Fb, preinstalled game)]
have you downloaded the program from github? Its a fully gui - click and delete. its for all current versions of miui as far as the developer has said. personally i'm on 10.4.4.0. The list that it gives you to delete are considered "safe to delete apps" - worst case i guess you soft brick.and need to do a factory reset. The app also leaves all the .apks for you to reinstall should something misbehave.

Yes, I already know for months already about it but her list is too simple and disabling function is buggy, disabled app still asking for update. Once we update it by mistake, or just changing region, they"ll back.

I just debloated successfully and it's all working fine. But i'm still left with the same amount of free space as i had before i uninstalled any of the apps i did.... Makes me wonder if Szaki tools really uninstalls the apps or somehow disables them without removing it from the device... Kinda suspicious to be honest...
PS: Also, i want to uninstall this really unnecessary download handler that comes with this phone but i don't see an option to do so?

This Is why I said the list is not suitable for me. It's good for newbie but people with more experience need POWERUSER MODE to remove more bloats, like fully uninstall ALL MIUI related to make it as close as stock for example. Yes, I can use adb manually or use debloat module in magisk, but tools to make it easier will be very welcomed

I agree. Someone already mentioned that at git too but Szaki's reply was to use "Add Apps" from the "App Manager" menu and update the list with what you want to remove. Apparently all the tabs use the same list...

it leaves the apks on your phone so you can reinstall if necessary, so they are still going to take up some space.
There is ALSO a disable tab you can use, which does exactly that.
Are you 100% sure you didn't gain a small amount of space? I gained a bit after deleting the ones on my list.

he has stated multiple times that the list to intentionally small to avoid the huge amount of dependencies that miui bakes into their apps and OS. each phone has different dependencies, and sometimes what works on one phone, soft bricks another. SO... there is an option to add apps (at your discretion) but even the safe list is not promised to not soft brick a phone (some phones the list is fully safe, others, maybe it trips a dependency and breaks something
If you want, start adding apps from outside the list and respond with your findings That would be the POWERUSER thing to do, would it not?.

Thanks, please have a look at this excellent post about debloating.
Though this is for redmi note 2, the list of apps you can safely remove is still quite actual.
Even though my phone is rooted, I couldn't remove system apk's and folders.
I've done so manually through twrp after first safely freezing apps by titanium to observe.
Root folder space is now at 70 %, which used to be over 90 if I remember well. :fingers-crossed:

Themes / Apps / Mods [Anxious] OOS v502, Companion v346, True Silent v2, Verizon PU v16

These modules are made for personal use. If you have an issue it is likely on your end. It's like running OOS 10.5ish w/ OOS 11/Pixel 4 Pixel 5/9 Pro/server side features via a whole lot of sed. The "thoroughness" of this OP is to minimize the need for back and forth between us. All OOS 11-11.2.* should be supported. Remains to be seen what changes with Color OS based OOS.
Anxious OOS v502 features:
(Template - Magisk module installer)
Android 12.1 Emojis, Blurs, Immersive Navbar, Nova Launcher w/ Google Feed, Pixel 5 features (device personalization services, flags, google phone framework, overlays), Premier Tier, 9 Pro Camera
Anxious OOS Companion v346 features:
(Template - MMT-Ex 1.6)
Anxious Kernel Script - Infinite Pills, Infinite Alcohol | Gboard - Faster Voice Typing, Google Lens, M2 (telescoping gif, tenor autocomplete, trending search), No Spacebar Branding, Ogg Opus Encoder, Pill Shape, Pixel Props, SODA, Tenor V2 * Languages (autocomplete, trending term, suggested search term), Tflite (emoji predicition, main word predicition, triggering model), Translate Dictation | Google Duo - In Call Effects w/o FPS Cap, Message Captions, Opus FEC, Outgoing Call Camera Switch, Restrict Low Bandwidth Logging, Video Processing-Sink, VP9 Hardware, 720p (for most things) | Google Phone - Duo Handover, STIR/SHAKEN (carrier/os support required), VVM (all carriers) | Google Photos - Cache Aware Video, Jpeg Backup Quality 100%, New Video Editor Backend/Frontend w/ Export Frame
True Silent v2 features:
(Template - MMT-Ex 1.6)
Silent .ogg file for notifications. Useful for apps like Facebook Messenger that don't respect notification channels properly. Seperate module so less reselecting when debugging anxious module. Also doesn't need to be uninstalled with OTAs.
Verizon Plus Ultra v16 features:
(Template - MMT-Ex 1.6)
Fixes for using Verizon on the 7 Pro.
All feature lists are constantly changing. Not everything is listed. Because sometimes the modules put you front in line for a/b server testing of literally anything Google.
The embedded links for some features are just links to what I consider to be a good enough explainaiton of the feature.
Google is your friend, I am not.
Support:
Basically none. This is made for my personal use. If you don't follow the instructions, you'll probably end up in a non-boot/bootloop.
What I'm Using:
Kernel - Kirisakura 1.3.9 R
Magisk - Stable
Rom - 11.0.4.1.GM21AA (7 Pro)
Do not use Open Beta/AOSP/LOS/etc... with my modules.
There are no special instructions for updating, unless stated otherwise in a release post. The below install instructions are not meant to be followed for updating.
Prerequisites:
You need "Busybox for Android NDK" and I strongly recommend "Cross Compiled Binaries" with sed installed to /system/bin. They are on the magisk module repo.
How to install:
1. Read entire OP. Reread entire OP. Do it again.
2. Install "Overlay Mount Fix". Skip to next step, if it fails to install.
3. Uninstall Google Framework/Phone, and/or Nova Companion apk, if any/all are installed. Go to the Play Store listing for Device Personalization Services and click uninstall, if it's available. Reboot, if you uninstalled any modules. There are probably other modules you should uninstall. But that's your problem, not mine.
4. Install "AnxiousOOS_v*.zip". (Magisk Manager only)
5. Reboot.
6. Install Google Phone as user app, you can use apk from companion module, from apkmirror, or clear Play Store data and then it should be offered by the play store.
7. Clear Play Store data if you didn't in step 6. Then update apps that now have an update in the Play Store.
8. Set up Device Personalization Services, Google Phone, i.e. grant all permissions (including "Draw over other apps" and "Modify system settings"), set as default phone app, spam app (search "spam" in settings), open app and set up available features. Don't forget to check all Settings>Apps and notifications>Special app access and check all of them for the aforementioned apps + Google apps (hit overflow menu and show system).
9. Install "AnxiousOOSCompanion_v*.zip". (Magisk Manager only)
10. Reboot.
11. Clear Play Store data
12. You profit.
13. Donate.
14. I profit.
15. Install Verizon specific module. Reboot. Reset APN defaults (search "sim" in settings, 1st suggestion>sim 1>access point names>overflow menu), if using Verizon module.
16. Call Screen/Hold For Me.
17. 100% jpeg quality.
Download(s) faq:
Q: Can you provide a mirror?
A: No.
Q: Why?
A: Mega is very mobile friendly and collects no metrics, I can't even track the number of downloads!
Changelog:
Will be available on each release post. I will not compile a changelog in one post.
Magisk:
Don't use anything older than the latest stable magisk.
Tips/Troubleshooting:
You should check "Settings>
Security & lock screen>Google Play system update" for an update. My modules might enable being on the latest. Might not.
If any app is reported as unsupported in the Play Store then clear the Play Store's data. It should work after that but a reboot might be needed sometimes.
Google has the ability to break pretty much anything with server side updates.
Clean installs of roms will probably have better outcomes, if it didn't work.
The app that live caption exists in, is called "Device Personalization Services". If it's not available you need to manually enable the service. I recommend this app manager. While you're at it you should enable all activities, providers, receivers, services. I also suggest using App Ops and Shizuku (required for App Ops functionality). All the linked apps also make debugging/troubleshooting easier.
Random:
You should read the Magisk documentation and MMT-Ex wiki.
Thank you
A lot has changed compared to the old instructions, so I'll gradually update the OP to reflect helpful FAQ, improved instructions, etc...
I also may have figured out how to get the latest Google Play system update. But that's unconfirmed. Since I don't have (or want) testers.
Welcome back! I'm glad to see you back on here hope that whatever you had going on in your life was resolved.

At least 10 years off till a refutable research facility would even consider injecting my retina with stem cells. And I won't have a diagnosis on my lung nodules for months or longer. But it would be the slowest growing metastatic colon to lung cancer my oncologist has ever seen but I currently have my bets on a benign inflammatory condition or pulmonary fibrosis as a result of chemotherapy. Or following the instructions.
You're not going to get any helpful support from me with one sentence posts that demonstrate you didn't follow instructions lol.
There are many "it"s you must install. And not everything is in the OP because I shouldn't have to tell users on a developer forum that something like a Terminal app is required when I say modules are needed as prerequisites that require a Terminal app for set up of those prerequisites.
The kernel has absolutely no effect on making this work or not. And you thinking so demonstrates the "learning curve" for my instructions are to difficult for you.
You're going to waste your time if you're gonna spend time trying to get the right kernel for something that doesn't need a right kernel.

So far so good here, nice having working voicemail in Google phone app.

Can you elaborate here? What's sed? And why they should be installed?
Installed it, everything was working except one snag, my settings was FCing everytime I tried to go to the app section.
It's something on my end most likely as I am using Bliss (which is different than your rom,) and it probably isn't compatible.

Now playing, google assistant hotword, voice access, live caption, live transcribe, sound amplifier, sound notifications... there are so many features that use the microphone in the background. Are you absolutely sure that you deactivated ALL of them? And those are only the pre-installed Google Pixel features.
What kind of apps have you installed?
A post like that is not very helpful, there is simply not enough information. There can be a thousand reasons as to why the microphones get accessed in the background.
I had the same thing happening to me, then I was scrolling through Developer options one day and realized that the "Shared Data" option was highlighted, so I clicked ot and there were like 3 million "snippets" from Google translate in there. I never even OPENED the app since I got my phone. I uninstalled Google Translate and that option got greyed out. Check your developer options and see if that's highlighted.
Thanks guys, the only app that used mic in privacy settings is Google app...

I guess that's good since it makes it less likely that you've installed a rogue app.
I think Google has gotten better with privacy, and can still do considerably better, but your title is wrong and misleading.
As others have noted above, Google needs access to your mike to be able to provide a bunch of its features, like Assistant and Playing Now. You can turn these off if you don't want the mike on.
Google controls the OS, s if they really wanted to "spy" on you, they would not be throwing warnings...
Where's your faraday hat?
Google's business is spying on you.
Best tips:
Root your device, cut away any/all Google apps and services as well as other malware like Facebook and replace them with alternatives except the few you can't live without.
Install a tool like App Manager (from F-droid) and strictly set permissions for everything running on your device
Run LSPosed+Xprivacy modules (requires Riru) and block out unwanted access from both apps and system processes.
If you are worried about your privacy then i am not sure buying a google product is the best place to start to protect it if i am honest.

Just install from „APKMirror“ and make sure your gallery app is updated and update the photo editing app located in the gallery app, which is responsible for „Object Eraser“, „Shadow Eraser“ and „Reflection Eraser“
From my experience, you don't need to clear any cache.

actually is not necessary to do so, just install the normal apks.
With the new update, „Samsung“ has blocked the sideloading of the editing app, which is highly disappointing, restricting features, that can be enabled.

Well yes, I did some deep investigating using „ADB“ and one thing I realised, that there is a secret user profile which keeps „Contacts, Gallery, Calendar, Camera, Samsung Internet, My Files, Samsung notes and the photo editor app“ (probably even more) which from what I can tell is from „Safe folder“ even when not used, this is confirmed by installing a program and adding it in „Safe Folder“ deleting the app from system or trying to update/downgrade the app the same error will appear, since it is encrypted „ADB“ has no clue if it is a user or something, since it has no idea, but it is a unique „Safe Folder“ user which if it has the same app it will lock you out of: Updating, Downgrading and Full-On Uninstall the app in question.

I've tried to install the apps linked but some failed to install, that was some time ago so I don't remember which. But I intend to reset my phone soon and will try it again.

The „Object eraser, Shadow eraser and reflection eraser“ install no problem, it's the fact, that they are tied to the editing app, which is installed on multiple user phase, meaning without downgrading before the change (when „One UI 4.1“ launched) even resetting the phone won't work, unless you are an insane debugger with „One UI“ and „ADB“ then you are sorta out of luck.
Object and reflection eraser install but don't show up in apps, even after clear cache and restart

Please read the above mentioned post, before saying there are problems, since it is expected.

Just install as normal apks. Then, clear cache and restart device.
Apks come from apkmirror. So, for newer version you will have to rely on them except the frameworķ.

What about bixby voice (make sure it's the version that it doesn't know it's a unsupported device)

I meant they don't show up in gallery, sorry. Maybe it's my Egyptian version of A32 that rejects it, cus I don't have a native screen recorder either
