Currently, the zenfone 2 states no band 12 support. Is there any way of looking into the phone itself to see if it has band 12 capabilities? Crossing my fingers for this, as this phone is super slick and powerful for an awesome price, and as a T-mobile user, lack of band 12 support is the only thing holding this phone back from purchase. most current band 12 capable phones are either lackluster in features, or too expensive.

Hey! Are you in an area that doesn't support T-Mobile 1700/2100 MHz AWS (band 4)?
I think i read somewhere on the tmobile forum, they use main band 4 and 2 being implemented.
Zenfone 2 supports both, I just got mine US version today and the LTE is working for me.

i live and travel between stockton, CA; Sacramento, CA; and Tracy, CA. signal is OK for the most part, though in some areas it leaves a bit to be desired. Currently using a Nexus 5. Through the LTE discovery app I know my phone typically picks up band 4. not sure about band 2. There are some indoor areas like buildings that aren't all that great on tmobile in my area. my local best buy for instance instantly drops to low signal the second i step in the store, even though right outside is full bars. driving along the freeway in certain areas deem little to now signal sometimes as well.
I'm not here to complain about my tmobile service. Just trying to ensure future proofing of my phone purchase hoping that band 12 would improve those situations.

If your a legitimate Asus rep, then that is a bummer the lack of band 12 support. I've already been to those pages and checked again. I just wanted to see if band 12 was possibly hidden somehow, as it seemed to be the case with a 2-3 other handsets since theyre only activated via software updates.
Thanks for the replying.
I am confused, it looks like the USA version does do Band 12
see below bolded:
USA T-MOBILE FREQUENCY: BAND 2 (1900MHZ), BAND 4 (1700/2100 MHZ), BAND 12 (700 MHZ)

Nah man, he/she is just stating those are the frequencies T-Mobile operate on, not frequencies of Zenfone 2 itself. See the link right above it for the zenfone 2 supported band list.
That would be nice though. I've already read several sites stating that it does not support band 12. The point of my post was to find out if there was any way to find out on the device itself (via owners of a Zenfone 2) to see if it was somehow hidden in there. Specs for the Galaxy Avant, Xperia X3, and the ZTE Zmax I don't think initially listed band 12 support in their specs, but now supposedly they will have it enabled via their respective software updates. I was crossing my fingers hoping a similar thing would happen with the Zenfone 2.

Clearly the phone itself supports the 700 freq (Band 17) which is also where Band 12 operates. Does that require a hardware change? I dunno.

US variant of ZE551ML does support Band 12. The LTE Discovery app revealed I was on Band 12 while using the T-Mobile service in Rancho Cucamonga, California. Going east from there, I was on Band 4 or 2, but then again, T-Mobile's rollout is just starting in Southern California.
That's really interesting Armchair. Band 12 is NOT listed anywhere in Asus' specs. I wonder if the latest OTA update kicked it in? Do you know what firmware you're running? B12 support is the only thing holding me back from the Zfone.

When I bought the phone from Amazon on June 25, 2015, Band 12 was listed in the US spec. Otherwise I would not have bought it at all because I wanted that availability. Now that I go back to the Amazon product page to get a screenshot, I see the entry has been altered to remove Band 12. However, today I'll make a trip to Rancho Cucamonga (not far from me, really), and screenshot the LTE Discovery screen when it shows the phone connecting to Band 12. (Pics or GTFO, right? )
Box Codes:
ZE551ML, BLACK, LTE,D
INTEL MRF Z3580(2.3Ghz),4G,64GB EMMC
ANDROID US,5.5" 5M/13M,N/A
Other notes of reference: When the phone arrived, the firmware was WW 2.18.40.12. I OTA updated to 2.19.40.18 then rooted (using Method 3) and unlocked the bootloader. Did not remove any system apps nor install any custom recovery. I have OTA updated twice since then, keeping root and unlocked bootloader. Currently at WW 2.19.40.22, under which I can connect to Band 12 towers. Did not tinker with the telephony settings or make any other unauthorized changes other than rooting and unlocking the bootloader.
So Asus snuck in support for Band 12 in a firmware update? Very nice Asus. Very nice indeed.

Screenshot taken near the intersection of Foothill Blvd & I-15 in California. LTE Discovery app showing connected to T-Mobile on a Band 12 tower using the ZenFone 2 (ASUS_Z00AD).
I've asked both TMO & Asus for confirmation. TMO basically said since it's not "native" it's not something they can confirm as working or not. Asus has yet to respond to my query period.
UPDATE: Got a reply from Asus. AsusUSA support on Twitter said they are unable to find any substantial data to verify Band 12 support for TMO.

Thank you for contacting ASUS Customer Loyalty. Currently there is no support for this band and no confirmation if it will be added in the future.
I believe it is limited in the hardware. Unfortunately it's not supported.
So looks no Zenfone 2 for me any time soon. What an OTA unsupported update can give, it can also take away.

Are you still able to connect on band 12 with newer firmware? I haven't seen a single one yet and have definitely been in known-deployed areas.

On .90 I was able to connect to B12 in the same spot as before as well as other locations around Rancho Cucamonga but I didn't take a screenshot of the LTE Discovery app for proof as a few threads here and in other forums have made it clear that T-Mobile will not support B12 on non-branded (read: noncustomized firmware) phones. Since then, the display has developed the infamous lines and fading issues as recorded by others and I have RMA'd the phone. Using a branded burner phone until all is resolved.
Damn looks like the issue is lack of support for volte.

So the repaired phone has returned to me and I've regained my stride. (Physical part was replaced and not a word about the unlocked bootloader.) Went back to that intersection today and took a screenshot of LTE Discovery just for you.
Firmware: WW 2.20.40.97
Rooted & bootloader unlocked.
No other modifications.
Hello, I heard a rumour to use the new mi mix 2s in the USA you need to buy the 8gb ram/256 model?
Anyone know if that is true. I would prefer to use the lower versions of the mi mix 2s on T-Mobile in the USA but worried it won't work.

I doubt that's true. The bands are the same and the Mix2 works on both gsm and cdma (Verizon) lte. Since the new T-Mobile bands (band 60?) aren't widely deployed, I don't think you'll have a problem.

You should be fine...like the post above stated, the main T-Mobile frequencies are present. However, you will be missing band 66 and 71, the latter of which is becoming more and more important (the state of Wyoming, for instance, is almost exclusively band 71 on T-Mobile). Unfortunately it may take a while for Xiaomi or similar phones to support band 71 as it's been really slow in getting manufacturers to adopt this band, excepting Samsung, LG, and Moto. But in any case, all variants of the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S do have the vast majority of T-Mobile's network covered vis-a-vis LTE banding.
It looks like all global versions of the Mi Mix 2S are compatible with T-Mobile LTE. But only the 256GB version of the Mi Mix 2S is compatible with Verizon. So if you're only worried about T-Mobile you should be fine.
I'm also in the same doubt..
Here in France we get the new b28 lte band, which is perfectly supported in the mi mix 2 whatever version, but in the 2s, it seems to be only supported on the 256 go/international version which is very very expensive!
But on some merchant (gearbest, aliexpress, etc...) the description of 64go global version say b28 lte band compatible...
Both 256go and 64go get the same cpu, snapdragon 845, and then the same lte modem...
So is there a chance to get a 64go global version compatible with this lte band, or could it possible to unlock the missing band with some tweaks???
Is it possible? I'm with MetroPCS and get about 80% of their frequencies but I'm short a few bands. Anyone on the same boat as me?

I know MetroPCS uses their network. Have you done the frequency check to see if you're getting all their bands, for t mobile I mean? I have attached the bands that the mate supports on Metro but would like to enable the ones that aren't.

I don't think the Mate phone (or any honor 7x version) have the hardware capabilities for band 66 or 71. If the phone was exclusively for T-Mobile, I bet Huawei probably equipped at least their flagships with them. Below you can see all the supported bands from all the Honor 7x versions.
https://www.gsmarena.com/huawei_honor_7x-8880.php#l24
For me, even if the phone had either band 66 or 71 dunno if T-Mobile have deployed these frequencies where I live. I either get band 4 or 12 and is incredible fast (100 Mbps download).
ugh i totally want to know how to unlock all those bands
This phone becomes useless when you travel to Europe especially with LTE as major bands used in Europe aren't supported on US models.
this is very frustrating.
Guys, I am having Chinese version of RN5 and was wondering if I will getting LTE while in USA?

Hello..
I own a China "Global" Edition Redmi Note 5.
I'm on MetroPCS (T-Mobile towers) and I get LTE in the Urban (City) areas and HSPA+ on the outskirts. It NEVER drops down to 3G or (Heaven Forbid) 2G.. I'm pretty sure AT&T provides the best overall coverage.. but MetroPCS has the best cost for my needs.. hope this helps if you have a Global Edition.
HI,
I operate a Note Pro 5 in the UK on the plusnet network which uses the following bands / frequency's. I use the global ROM
800MHz band, the 1800MHz band, the 2100MHz band
Iam not having much luck with the 4G speed / connection. Iam wondering if that's because the handset does not work with these bands. No point reformatting my phone only to find out if the phone does not work with these bands !!!
Thanks
Mathew
It should work fine, as they use EEs network. I use virgin mobile that also uses EEs network and its fine. Have you tried amending the APN settings?

Yes you are correct Virgin and Plusnet both run off EE but its not that simple.
EE only allow some bands to be avalible for resale the ones I have listed are what Plusnet use.
You have pointed out something I should have done!!!! I have removed the APN and started from scratch I will try this for a few days and see what happens.

So from what I've read plusnet don't seem to offer the 800mhz frequency (EE/virgin do), but if your Redmi Note 5 is the global version it will work with all UK 4G bands (including 800 or band 20 if its available from your provider). Usually band 20/800mhz travels further and so tends to be used more in rural areas to help improve coverage. Were you connecting to 4g OK before or have you just changed to plusnet or just got your RN5?
Sent from my Redmi Note 5 using Tapatalk
Yes I thought that but have had conformation directly from Plusnet that they do use the 800mhz range
