I have recently bought Asus A730W but everything is in German and I don't know German at all. Please, suggest a link how to change the language of Windows, not only of the newly downloaded applications.
You might want to ask this question at pocketgamer.org...they are the sort-of unoffical asus forums. A730W is a) not made by HTC b) not a phone edition device...

Hey,
I will get my german Fire TV by the end of this week. As far as I understood its very likely that it wont be rootable due to the newest firmware version which is most likely preinstalled.
Is it likely that there will be a fix/ solution to root the most recent firmware in the near future?
For me the most important thing is to be able to run xbmc or sbmc, which should be possible without root, right? What are the limitations without root, can I still set the box up in a way that xbmc gets loaded automatically after boot?
Thanks in advance
Thorsten
Yes you can sideload XMBC and most other apps as they don't require root. You can also sideload llama so XBMC starts on boot. http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=Amazon_Fire_TV#Llama_.28automation.29_Events
Expand semi and complete bypass for details.
You just can't use the USB for external storage and have custom recovery menu etc...We survived a while without root before towelroot came out in the beginning, still a great media player without root.
Thanks for the answer!
Thats good to know and means that there is not really a need for root for me as I have all my media content on my synology nas...
And I guess at some point, somebody will find a way to root the box with the new firmware as well.
Cheers
Thorsten
It is official.
I will get my fire tv from amazon germany on 25.09.
I talked with amazon:
Vielen Dank für das freundliche Gespräch.
Es freut mich das wir Ihr Anliegen kurz per Chat miteinander besprechen konnten.
Gern habe ich für Sie recherchiert und in Erfahrung bringen können dass die Software Version auf dem Fire TV 51.1.3.0 ist.
Sollten Sie noch einmal persönlich mit uns sprechen wollen, darf ich Sie bitten uns kurz anzurufen?

So no root for us.
It was inevitable that you would get firmware 51.1.3.0 or later because that version is when then enabled Amazon.co.uk and Amazon.de accounts as well as adding time-zones and language support for those 2 countries.

I wouldn't mind swapping mine for yours, because I just want to run XBMC and have no interest (yet) in root access. However,
I can imagine somehow in the firmware they also took out US content providers for German or UK ones.... or is this configured
at run time based on the IP location ?

Well... bye bye root access
My FireTV automatically updated itself to 51.1.3.0 today. So despite the rumours that it won't update if you're not in the US, UK and Germany.
Yes, it will...
