Hey mate, I just downloaded gboard and turned on vibrate on keypress. I tried typing and found out it wasn't vibrating as well. I went back to thw gboard options and found that there is another vibration settings below the vibrate on keypress option, it is the "vibration intensity" I think, and in default, it is set to system settings (no vibration), I fixed it by setting the intensity manually to how I want it to be.
Enjoy. Hope it is as simple as mine.
Exaxtly this wasnt working for a long time. Glad it works now. Thx
unfortunatly there is still a problem. i have to turn on vibrations for notifications in the s9 settings(not vibrations feedback! crazy right?). if i disable the vibration for notification the vibration feedback for the keyboard is also disabled. any idea how to fix this?
edit: do you have vibrations for notifications enabled in the s9 settings?

So just 20 minutes ago my phone was working fine, and now I'm getting no haptic feedback nor does my phone vibrate for notifications or calls...
I tried rebooting the phone with no luck.
I disabled and then re enabled the haptic feedback.
Has this happened to anyone? Do you know of a fix?
Mine was doing the same thing. Only thing I could think of was a factory reset which did the job.... sorta. Calls vibrate now but notifications don't.

Hmm, not sure then. I'm still trying to figure out my lack of notification vibration so if I come across anything I'll let you know.

Mine does the same thing now: vibrates on calls & haptic feedback works, but not notifications when its on vibrate silent mode
Has anyone found a fix?
EDIT: found a fix
Download an app called Sound Manager from the market or any other app that lets you change all the sound settings.
Once in the app, hit menu and then vibrate settings. Change the notification from Don't Vibrate to something else. Wola!
I don't know why the messaging app lies and tells you that it changed the settings when it doesn't...

I had a similar problem, let me ask you this: Does the phone play any sounds on notifications when it's not vibrating?

I switched to ICS today and my messaging app stopped vibrating...I turned on all the vibrations in the sound menu in settings but nothing happened. Then I went to the messaging app's setting in messaging --> (menu) --> settings and scroll down to "vibrate" and choose "also vibrate when notified".
This will fix it

Settings - Sound - Vibrate (When calls & notification ) - Disable that and it should be fine. Or doesn't that help ?
I have already done the settings in sound, still it does not help.

Tried putting it on "No-Sound" mode ? (Add Sound Widget, there are 3 modes : Sound, Vibrate, No Sound)
That last one should disable everything if I'm correct ?
Uncheck pocket mode

I have the same problem here. I don't think turning the pocket mode off is the right fix. It vibrates even I leave it on the table.
Yeah same for me the damn vibration woke me up as its really loud. I have pocket mode enabled though, isnt it only supposed to put the volume up? Besides my phone was laying on a table with the sensor unblocked

Vibrate Issues - Could be a Common Problem with Android
I think this is a common problem with Android phones as this happens not only on my EVO 3D but also on a brand new Sony Xperia P. Even restarting the phone after changing/toggling between vibrate on and off between restarts does not help. Despite checking all settings and turning off, when any notification or an incoming call or anything happens, the phone vibrates!
I have checked all applications' settings too because some settings are there for vibrate for notifications. IMO chat app, etc and even in messaging I have vibrate turned off under settings for notifications and STILL the phone vibrates! This IS an ISSUE and I don't see why Android developers:highfive: or even Mobile Company QA personnel:cyclops: have not bothered to check this BASIC issue and Resolve it over so long! Could be the cause of why Android Battery life sucks so much or an inherited bug! Tried this even on a HTC Explorer.
From what I've read around there is NO way to disable all vibrations in non-rooted android phones! Kinda stupid if you ask me. For a rooted phone you have to download an app like either Spare Parts and disable vibration via that. Why they don't have the option to globally disable all vibration as default settings on Android beats me?! You can turn off vibration under settings for notifications and anything but you WILL still get vibrate despite turning all vibrate settings OFF! They HAVE to rectify this nonsense! Basic functionality and they can't even get that right!
My GNex is running 4.2 now, and I've noticed that when the phone is on silent, the phone vibrates when new gmail messages come in. If I check the settings, it specifically says "Never" under vibrate settings.
Has Google changed Gmail's vibrate behavior in 4.2 so that Never actually means Sometimes?
Can anyone confirm?
I hope this gets fixed!

Yes, I have the same issue, for both Gmail and Calendar
It vibrates in ALL notifications. Someone knows how to disable it?
Regards!
Just a hunch, but I tried it and it worked. If you don't care about not having any notification for gmail (sound or vibrate) then set the notification sound to silent and vibrate never. Unfortunately you won't get sound if you want that, but at least it's not vibrating now.

I want to keep the vibration on for stuff like text messages, just not email. When I'm at work I can read my email on my computer, so I turn my phone to vibrate so that it's not beeping all day long. With 4.2, I've replaced beeping with vibrating. It's very annoying.
Google, never means NEVER!

This works for gmail, but not the email app that I use for my work email.

I'm having the same issue, and it's very annoying. I want to keep the image in the notification bar, but I don't want it to vibrate - like I had before the 4.2 update. I even tried toggling the notifications off and on and toggling between "only on silent" and "Never," but it continues to vibrate. I only want my phone to vibrate for text messages/google voice messages.
There is at least one bug ticket raised for this.

Possible solution
Possible solution, for those of you who usually only run between sound and vibrate mode on your phone. Just go into the gmail settings and toggle the vibrate to "only in silent mode" you won't get a vibrating notification...
That's what I just set mine to do.

This didn't work for me. Always vibrates when in vibrate mode no matter what I have set. Funny enough, when I set the phone to silent mode there is no vibration even when it is set to 'Only in silent mode'.
I just hope this is identified as a bug and wasn't done on purpose. It's going to be an annoying few weeks while I wait for another OTA.
Any update to this? I'm having the same problem with text messages vibrating.
Same issue here. I have a custom 4.2 ROM flashed with this problem. I even tried reverting back to stock and reflashing. That did not solve the problem.
Same problem for me with official 4.2 OTA update, on a yakju galaxy nexus
That's no GMail bug, unfortunately it's a new "feature" introduced in Android 4.2. If you ar looking at the commits in AOSP, you can see it is a new system wide sound-to-vibrate conversion feature.
If you change the phone to vibrate mode, all applications which are playing notification sounds are then vibrating. Genious!
It should be possible to deactivate vibration therefor if you disable the notification sound in the specific app.

I feel like I have to be missing something dumb here. I can't get the G3 to be in vibrate mode and vibrate when I get a text or call. When I get the call the screen just lights up to the caller screen. It doesn't even vibrate when I have the ringer on. Under settings -> Sound, I have Silent mode set to vibrate then the Ringtone with vibration checkbox goes grey. This is what my sound settings are in the screenshot. What am I missing?

Good to know you are also having this issue. I just got it on Friday and I haven't dropped it. The phone won't even vibrate when I switch it into vibrate mode like my S3 did. It vibrates when I turn the phone off so I know that it can vibrate. It has to be a setting that we are missing. I am trying to stay away from a hard reset of the phone.
Settings-sound and click Vibrate. Turn strength up. I found it rather weak. So changed Vibration type to a loner ong and boosted strength some. Helps
idk. no problems on my side

It's not that. I already had that set to Vibrate. I get vibration from other apps like Facebook when I have a notification. I checked the default texting app and it's set to vibrate always.

Ok, now it seems to be working. I restarted the phone and it went through the optimizing apps screen. I wonder if it was having issues still after I tried switching to ART runtime. I switched it back to Dalvik yesterday but it maybe didn't optimize everything.
I've been having the same issue. It fixes itself whenever I restart but keeps coming back. I have the at&t version in case that makes a difference.

Having same issue, on rooted Verizon. That option stays grayed out...anyone find the answer to this?
I just updated to lollipop and I'm having the same issue. I can't get my texts or emails to vibrate at all. Picture in the first post is accurate for me. Vibrate mode active and notification and touch sliders are greyed out.

yup, that's the fix I also found for this problem. Restarting fixes it.
A new official update popped up two days ago and the vibration stopped working after it was installed. I tried rebooting, I even did factory reset, but still not working. Help?
Hi
About a month ago my phone stopped vibrating when I received SMS or whatsapp messages if my Ringer was set to vibrate.
Strangely, the option for notification vibrate becomes disabled or "greyed out" if i switch the ringer to 'vibrate'. (see pics)
It does vibrate just fine for a call- just not for notifications.
I am stock rooted, I was on 5.1.1 then updated to Marshmallow 6.0.1 -- no difference.
I've played with all the settings I can think of, with no help.
Any thoughts?
Apparently I'm not the only one, as I found this guy asking the identical question with a S6 edge on a different forum.
http://forums.androidcentral.com/sa...ion-vibrate-disabled-if-ringtone-vibrate.html
Nobody?
It's a strange glitch- no one has experienced a phone that vibrates fine for a call, but doesn't give the option to vibrate for a notification or text?
Some notification vibration settings must be set for that app. The screenshot you posted shows that notifications are set to vibrate.

Ah! Thank you so much for someone finally replying.
I must not have explained the screenshots correctly--- In the second screenshot-- I have set my RINGER to vibrate (as in for the phone).... and magically ALL NOTIFICATIONS GO SILENT (for every app and including SMS) -- not even vibrate--- and I lose the ability to change them to vibrate.
It used to be simple. Ringer set to ring, Notifications (whether for SMS, or any other app like calendar or whatsapp) would also ring. Ringer set to vibrate- notifications (again for all apps and SMS) would also go to vibrate.
Importantly I also would have control of the relative volumes/vibrations in both settings.
Now I only have that ability when the ringer is set to ring. If i set the ringer to VIBRATE--- then the notifications get totally silent-- -and are 'greyed out' so I can't change them.
It's weird.
Maybe I can't seem to explain it clearly, but I'm trying.
Thanks for the reply.
I am having the exact same issue. Have you ever figured out a solution?

Sorry for the delay.
The answer is .... sort of....
The graying out issue never resolved, but magically it DOES vibrate now with messages. Perhaps that started to work with one of the updates I've installed.
Still seems bizarre to me, but as long as the functionality returned... i guess that is good enough.
