Hi, I installed LOS 15.1 and I'm seeing that I don't have the menu buttons (back, home, see open apps) in the bottom of the screen. I only can go back, go home and see the open apps sliding the fingerprint. Is any option in the settings to activate the menu? If is it, I can't find it.
Hope someone can help me, thanks!

Hi,
I have the cheapest bluetooth mouse and keyboard going, so I'm not sure whats available in the high end. However I have notice that when navigating the SGS3 with a mouse I can not access any of the bottom buttons (menu, home, back). With the keyboard it is a bit easier since I can use the Esc key to control the back button. I'm not to worried about getting the home button, but I think it would be good to have access the menu button (bottom left). Sometimes I use a credit card stand and I'm a bit worried about knocking it over when I press the menu button.
Anyone know how to create a software version of the menu button? Or even better, does anyone know a keyboard or mouse trick to toggle it?
Cheers,
Stui
I found an App that will solve the problem

Ok, I went hunting around the Play Store and found 'External Keyboard Helper Pro' which enables the user to map whatever keyboard value to whatever Android function they want (and more). I was able to map the Home and Menu buttons to unused keys on the Bluetooth keyboard. I also discovered that Alt Tab switches tasks (but you have to touch or click the screen to stay on the task switch screen).
hope this helps anyone who is at this stage of PCing up their SGS3.
Sure helps. thanks mate.
I wish the same mapping can be done for the mouse, as most of the time i would use the mouse to navigate back and forth into and out of menus, currently i cant find a mouse that has a menu button and a home button.
If you click and hold you get the menu for an item, but not the main app menu.
Hi, by self-trying I've also discovered the following keys that work without any external software:
CTRL+ESC = Menu key
ALT+ESC = Home key
ALT+TAB = Task manager (briefly hit the two keys, then use arrows to select the app)
So, although after a year, you get your answer! :good:

Scroll wheel click is the Home button and right click is the back button. I can't find a way to do the Recents button, though.

Awesome. I had been searching for this for quite some time.
Is there a way to make the right click act as a long click instead? I have having to long click when you have a button performing functions that could be done in an easier fashion. Meanwhile, a true right click feature would be amazing.

All of the above is correct. Also, Mouse Button 4 (which normally maps to "Back" in the Browser) opens the recently opened programs view.
I cant find an option to leave home on screen button on all the time. Is it posible?

Why would you want less screen for your apps? Tap or swipe down to get your buttons back. I don't believe you can lock the buttons there.
Im comming from galaxy note 2 and mis having dedicated buttons. Now its one more step to access any of the home buttons. You are right about loosing some screen size if buttons are on all the time. I would like to try both ways... If not I just have to get used to it.

Found a solution that might help others..
I installed Pie Controls and not have access to home buttons and more at thumb level. This used to need root, but not any more.
Only function that need access is the back , for this in setting go to General > Accessibility scroll dows to Services and Pie is listed as Off just turn On and back button in pie control will work.
Cheers if it helps anyone.
I'm using OOS 3.2.7 and was wondering is there a way to configure the short press action as I would like to change recent apps menu from short press to long press action as sometimes my palm or fingers touches it and it brings up the recent apps menu which I don't like, I have tried GravityBox but that didn't work, any suggestions?
If you turn on , on screen navigation does it still hinder ?and gets pressed as on screen navigation disables the side buttons ...

Hi, i just updated my phone to Nougat, and i miss the feature of long pressing the recent apps button that gives me a menu button (MM feature?). Is it possible to activate that again? It seems to be replaced with split window feature. In addition, in the display settings, in the buttons section enables the menu button. Does that only show the menu (three dots) button on apps only? (has nothing to do with the capacitive buttons on the phone?)
Thank you for reading this, look forward to a reply
Before Nougat:
Choose from the options: Always open recent apps. Press for menu, press and hold for recent apps. Press for recent apps, press and hold for menu.
After Update:
Display options - buttons- menu button
holding the button on the right to open up split screen is a feature of nougat.
I knew of the feature to hold the button down to bring up a menu, but im guessing it wasnt widely utilised, hence its removal.
There may be a way, using root, to change what the button does, but I wouldnt know how. Someone else probably does though.

Hey thats a bummer, i loved that feature! i not really fond of the split screen feature, its not really that useful to me.
Thanks for letting me know. Hopefully, ill flash a custom rom on this phone soon.
This is bull****! They could at least give us a choice of choosing what does the button do. Now I will have to install a custom rom to get back that menu button
Can someone who has a Twitter account describe this menu button issue to Graham Wheeler or Mo Versi ?
We`ll get a better chance of them fixing it then.
Hi All,
In CM13 I grew accustom to long pressing the menu button (square shape on the navigation bar) to switch instantly to my previous app. In Lineage OS 14.1 this shortcut is no longer default (on my device it's a split screen shortcut).
In the settings (, I found a way to reassign the home button's long press action, but I haven't been able to find a way to reassign the menu button's long press action.
Is this possible in stock? Please let me know if I've missed it. Thanks
It's now done by double-tapping the recent apps button (where you assigned it) - a change introduced in Nougat, not just in LOS. Even faster than having to hold down the button, but sure takes some getting used to.
