Use blokada. Google is your friend. I am using it for more than a year, very good.

I used to use Droidwall with GB but I just can't find any app that works with 4.0.4
ICS system's stock filtering is only good for blocking the background apps but what about the foreground apps? Has anyone find an app that can block apps of data completely, foreground and background?

LBE Privacy Guard will do the trick.
Did 4.0.4 break droidwall? I recently uninstalled it only because I wasn't using it at all, but it seemed to work fine on earlier versions of ICS when I first tried it.
droidwall requires iptables, maybe you dont have them installed at the moment?
Avast! mobile-security app does the job for me. You can select which type of connection to block (wifi/3g/3g roaming) per app. It also comes with an SMS and call filter as an added bonus.
I just noticed Avast too. Im currently using LBE but I wish it had better batch disabling of certain permissions such as data or location.
Has anyone used both and liked one another better?
I can attest for Avast as well. It has a great firewall. Haven't tried any other on ICS.

Its all a personal choice , here are mine :
1. Titanium Backup Pro - Backup app
2. Terminal Emulator - running your Linux command like EFS backup and more
3. Links2SD - Move apps from internal to External SD ( Note stores all app on internal storage)
4. ROM Manager - 1 stop rom control / flash
5. Triangle Away - reset your counter
6. BuildProp editor
7. Xposed Framework - Change your UI ( ex: transparent status , battery , lock screen and many many more customization)
8. ES-File explorer
9. AdAway - now not in playstore can download from XDA.
10. Tasker - Probably the best paid app out there
all the suggested apps are great
but it all comes down to what are u planning to do with ur device ......
Many were already mentioned, but to me:
Adaway (http://sufficientlysecure.org/index.php/adaway/)
Android Firewall (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jtschohl.androidfirewall)
Autorun Manager (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rs.autorun&hl=en)
Greenify (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.oasisfeng.greenify&hl=en)
Tasker + Secure Settings (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.dinglisch.android.taskerm&hl=en)
Titanium Backup (or similar app that allows freezes and app+data backups)
SD Maid (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.thedarken.sdm.unlocker&hl=en)
Lumberjack (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.solarnz.apps.lumberjack&hl=en)
GMD SPen (useful for gestures and for screen auto-off when inserting pen)
First thing I do to my phone:
-Freeze useless apps with Titanium
-Stop apps from auto-starting with Autorun Manager
-Add some apps to Greenify
(these steps save me lots of RAM and I guess, CPU cycles).
Then Tasker+Secure Settings for automation (in my phone it ends up replacing several apps as it can be tweaked to do lots of stuff)
Android Firewall is a must too. I have it Deny All by default and only allow apps that I know are needing Wifi or 3G access. The rest are not allowed to connect to the outside world.
Most likely you will also need something like
SuperSU https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.supersu&hl=en
Busybox https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=stericson.busybox&hl=en
And just for fun, why not Live Dmesg ? (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.livedmesg.lite&hl=en)

Greenify definitely recommended ! Hibernates your App till you manually open it again. After using it , it again hibernates thereby cutting off synch and services associated to it - which means you can use that app when ever you want at the same time ensuring it doesn't keep lingering at the background when you are not using it :good: .. Till now saving me some good amount of RAM & Battery, the only drawback it cannot hibernate system apps - like Google Music , which keeps auto starting .

I've converted maps and play music to user apps with titanium back up and successfully greenified them. Unfortunately some system apps can't be converted but a lot can

Chrome beta works great.
Sent from rooted carbon note 2, with the xda app.
not much root apps i use myself though,
- titanium backup
- mobile odin (trying it out at the moment)
- gmd spen (once i switch to 4.2.2/4.3 still need to get a new sd-card first )
- SG USB Mass Storage Enabler (added to my list after i read about it, awesome app to get back the normal mass storage instead of the MTP connection samsung comes bundled with)
- lucky patcher (don't know if i can name that one here if not please remove this line ^^)
- adaway
there's only 2 apps i really use though, thats TB for my backups and adaway to get rid of those pesky adds mobile odin is something i have just i case, not something i really use on a regular basis.
gmd spen might be scratched from the list, and usb mass storage enabler as well, still gotta try out if that one actually increases anything in the transfer speed, if not i'm just gonna stick with the MTP as i can use my device at the same time then .

I have a question regarding pre installed bloatware in the phone.
I have disabled
sales track
Mlive
Hike and
Askme without any problems.
About other apps I do use Amazon but can't update it from play store is there a way to remove this and install the version from play store.
Also what are these apps and are they safe to remove
1) market feedback agent
2) partner launcher custom
3) locationem2
4) fused location
5) sun beam
Also since I use hangouts as default for SMS is removing Messaging safe

I might keep sales track because it can help for receiving the system updates? I am not sure though.
Looking for an alternitive that system wide blocks ads also the ability to debloat aswell
Sent from my SM-N976B using Tapatalk
You can use ADB commands to debloat. Instructions are in the Note 9 forums.
For ad blocking, go to settings - connections - more connections - private DNS.
Turn that on and set it to dns.adguard.com and save it.
That's the best way to debloat and block ads system wide with no additional apps.

It blocks ads in the apps I use at least.
It's not cheap, but it works system wide, doesn't use VPN, Disconnect Pro.
https://galaxystore.samsung.com/detail/com.disconnectandroidfirewall
I got it about three or four years ago, worked brilliantly on all my Samsung devices. Occasionally they have it on sale, or even free. Worth every penny though.
Do yourself a favor and get Disconnect Pro. It's up to you if you want to pay or find it floating on the web. I was able to find it on the web and it works better than Blockada and Adguard system wide. No ads in browser or apps.

I want to disable the services which collect wifi / cellular data usage. What are their names so I can disable them?
I have super user access via magisk and TWRP.
Well it looks like I found a semi-tethered solution to stopping data collection of wifi / cellular data. You need to modify specific instances inside the Settings system app by disabling them, yes it will break the data usage setting but who cares? Took me hours to figure it out

^ I used this tool kit to identify specific loaded modules in the system app and disabled them. Although I do not believe I got all of them since on the oneplus 9 pro, where it shows you notifications it's still recording cellular data usage and I have not been successful in locating the service / module to disable it.
Maybe other experts can help on this matter without bricking the phone. Make sure you guys backup cause disabling the wrong module can brick the phone.
