Does anyone have a car charger that works with fast charging? Or any recommendations on one that will work?
If you're looking for wireless I don't think there is anything out there right now. I bought the iottie like a day or 2 before news broke of the speed reduction. They say they are not going to go for certification. I have an email out to Anker's marketing team.

The answer you get is: NO.
TL;DR: No.
I picked these up and will be trying them today...

there are tons of type c options out there, personally I'm using the PD charger from choetech. anything rated for either 3a/5v or PD will fast charge. this is the one I'm using:
CHOETECH USB C Car Charger 18W Power Delivery & Quick Charge 3.0 2-in-1 Dual USB Car Charger Compatible Pixel 2/Pixel XL,Galaxy S9/Note 8/S8, iPhone Xs XR XS Max 8/8 Plus/X, Nintendo Switch etc. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0747669PT/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_quY0BbMAFH4XG
Here's a couple I would trust
Choetech 18 watt USB-C PD & Aukey 27 watt USB-C PD / 39 watt total
My other posts were about wireless quick charging. I got that on the brain, apparently.

Yes - I use the Iottie One Touch Wireless Charger and it works GREAT for every phone I have used it - including my Pixel Xl 3
It is a little pricey but it is the most versatile charger I have found - and it is very user friendly - for taking the phone in our out of the phone holder/charger.
I also really like the Iottie Discs they include with the charger/holder - it allows you to mount the charger/phone mount on a curved dash without any problems at all - and in a pinch, they can be removed without messing up the dashboard. Great Charger - great Car Phone Mount. Really is the best one I have seen

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure that's for wireless charging, not wired.

That's right. And, https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=77982087&postcount=7
I've been using the Anker one and works really well. in essence any charger with USB Cand PD certification will do the trick
https://www.ebay.com/itm/USB-C-Car-...blhkm:sc:USPSFirstClass!92143!US!-1:rk:4:pf:0
tried out my choetech 10w wireless car charger. didn't mess with any measurement apps since I knew it wouldn't charge at 10w, but it did charge the phone with navigation running, screen on and music streaming over bt. since it's powered by type c you can always just plug the phone in directly if you need fast charging, but if it outpaces navigation that's generally good enough for me.

I've been using a 10w wireless charger in the car and it works with Google Maps navigation and Bluetooth audio running. It doesn't charge fast but not having to deal with magnets is nice. The only issue is that if you turn the car off the arms won't open at the push of the button. Not a big issue because the pho e is easy to take out.
If I do need to fast charge I just place the phone in the crawl then unplug the power from the car charging mount and straight into the phone. I'm using a USB C PD car cigarette lighter socket.

I just got this in yesterday and it's charging as fast as my Google wall charger (verified via Ampere). It also has a QC 3.0 port for my wife's S9+.

Does it still charge and maintain a charge while using the phone for streaming/nav, etc?
Oh, and will it work if my XL has a bulky case?
I have a question.
See it's nice to have wireless chargers in the car with arms to hold the phone. Even better to have a wireless charger with magnet.
Now I won't go in debate of over charging the phone but is there a wireless charger for a car that has a button to turn ON and OFF the charge? I don't care with or without a magnet to hold the phone.
I drive allot so I don't mind a slow charging the phone, I do care about leaving the phone on without over charging it. Plugging the cord in and out isn't fun.

it does charge while using navigation - and Wireless Android Auto - (which is a pretty big drain on the battery) I don't know about a "Bulky Case" I use the Ringke Crystal Fusion Case" which is fairly thick - and it works fine for me - but I haven't tried any other case, so I can't say for sure.
I love the Iotti One Touch - Wireless - it is an awesome holder/charger
Good Luck

I agree, i did a bit more research and i think ill go or may go with something like this.

Granted i will have to install or use two side tape to attach two metalic strips onto the phones case to get the magnet stick to it. Should be piece of cake or buy those metallic rings that sell and attach them.
there is also this one, but sadly it doesnt come with a suction cup (which i really need) I does come with a metal ring tho.

Where can I find a good car charger that charges my Evo at a good rate? This weekend I was traveling and was in Detroit for a few hours and my phone died, I get out into my car and plug the phone in and I have to wait about 10 minutes before I can even turn the phone on. Then I use it for about 10 minutes and the phone dies WHILE BEING PLUGGED IN!
Any recommendations?

When you connect your Evo to this charger does it show up in Battery Status as Charging (USB) or Charging (AC)?
Battery Status can be found by tapping Menu > Settings > About phone > Battery.
Pete
I bought a MicroUSB car charger made by Duracell for Blackberrys at Sears for $15. (I work at Sears, it was convenient.) That thing outperforms anything I could have hoped for. Listening to podcast on the highway while using it for nav and some Vlingo text messages (with Vlingo Actively listening) and it charges through all of it.

I've had several and surprisingly, the best one I've found are the Sprint-branded ones. I bought mine on Ebay (I entered 'Sprint micro USB car charger OEM' for the search terms).
UPDATE: I can also confirm that when the phone is being charged by this charger, it registers as 'AC Charging'

It shows up as AC. But I'll confirm it tomorrow when I go for a ride. My only issue with it so far is, i don't know if its the device or my car, that I dont get anything above 500mAh. So when I'm running GPS, 3G, music, and navigation, I'm usually losing 10-100mAh... I'm in contact with Kensington about it to see whats the deal. I'll be trying the charger in another car seeing as though my cars been having problems starting up in this cold weather.
I got two of these chargers from ebay for 4.50/each shipped. They charge as AC and I've used them with navigation. Actually quickly charges and I like the retractable cord plus comes with a wall charger. Check it out. Very decent buy for the cheap price.

The 500mA maximum you describe is typical of an Evo which is charging in USB mode. I'm very interested in what your phone says re: charging mode.

Ah, I see what you're saying now(Checked this while charging on desktop). If this is the reason my Evo is losing charge then I'm curious to know if there is work around to this.
Post #1 in THIS THREAD discusses the issue in depth and post #2 lists some chargers which charge in AC mode right out of the box.
That's also why I'd like a definitive answer about the Kensington charger: So I can add it to the database.

I've had the point*mobl car charger from day one and love it. I have it for both my Evo's and since it also has a usb port on the front I use that to charge my TP2 as well. Works great for me.

Is that a problem with the cheaper chargers like these?

Yes, that can be a problem. Most QI charging isn't fast enough to keep up with navigation because of the battery drain.

I was wrong, the samsung old ones are 10w with fast charge. You might be able to find one, but wireless charging is never good for battery intensive applications. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WWZqa3tT4NQ is a video to show how it works.

For me it is fine if the battery level at least stay the same and do not go lower when I am using the car charger during navi/music.
I can not find any info on how these China wireless chargers work for this task.
Has anyone found a magnetic dock that supports fast wireless charging? All the so called "best wireless chargers" articles seem to have the slow 5W charging car docks...
Yes,Me!
Hi. I am using a cheap ebay Chinese car wireless charger with the slim case on my s8 plus.
The phone ia slowly charging, but slowly discharging when using maps+youtube and high screen brightness.
Regards
Charge with slim case is Okay, but the farther your phone stays, the slower the speed will be. Most chargers will charge the devices within 8-10 mm max distance.
Recommend a charger with built-in fan for cooling. Search " B073XLKWFK" on Amazon US
Is there a fast (qi fast) charger for the car with decent retention? I really...really need one haha
Not cheap anymore, but the Samsung one is the best I have found. I have 4 of them in my fleet. Only thing is I recommend a 90 degree down bend micro USB cable for neater appearance.

I believe both the S6 and S7 have in settings a check box to enable or disable fast charging. But does Android actually have a way of telling anyone when it is actually fast charging verses not fast charging? I never seen any messages like that. I have the other Samsung Qi charging pads - the one that is flat and the newer one that is a stand and never seen any messages indicating they fast charge. And even when I plug it in to the stock USB charger there is no indication it is fast charging. So how does one actually tell?

Interesting, I bought that a while back and it didn't fast charge my Note 5 so I returned it. Plus the back doesn't support my setup so I didn't wait to test on the S8+.
Just used it last week. Gave the notification it was fast charging, and the time till full. Seemed to work great for me. Only problem I have is the vent clip doesn't work on the vents in my jeep.
That would be specific to the vehicle though

My S8 Plus arrived today. The charger I recommended above does NOT provide any messages that it is fast charging but I was not using a factory Samsung charger. I switched it to a factory Samsung charger, but still the same. The cord I have to use not factory either because the factory one is too short and I have heard sometime those can cause the fast charging not to work. Seems pretty slow charging so whatever I have setup here is not fast charging capable it seems. So YMMV.
Easiest thing s do what I did. Find a Radio Shack going out of business, get a disc style charger and a Samsung fast car charger, gut the disc, cut it down and install it somewhere under a cubby hole or console. I did it in my Mercedes, first in the cubby hole under the stereo in a single DIN arrangement, then moved it to the arm rest in the console running a cable off the cigarette lighter. Car chargers aren't easy to find for Qi, so i got inventive and made my own.
I haven't been able to find a single car charger worth a damn, including the 80 dollar samsung. I'm thinking of the charging pad mounted in my console as well. Ugh wish someone would make a decent car charger that's wireless
Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
Like stated before, this one is fairly cheap for what it is. You get two style of mounts. If you have a jeep like me, you will probably have to use the window mount. When I used my rental last week which was a Nissan sentra the vent mount worked great.
It definitely does fast wireless charging as long as you use a compatible charge input. My radio didn't have enough output and did regular speed wireless charging. Used the cigarette charger output that came with it and tada fast wireless charging. As the pics show on my Verizon s8 plus
Pics of fast wireless charging
Any Qualcomm 2.0 adaptive fast charge works
Idk about it doing quick charge I'll check into it, but I've had this for 2 years in my car.
iOttie HLCRIO132 Easy One Touch Wireless Qi Standard Car Mount Charger for Qi Enabled Devices - Standard Packaging - Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00UXS7958/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_-cvczb92EXNGD
I use the iOttie Qi mount and it works well.
I got this one yesterday. How can I prove or disprove that it is truly a fast charging wireless device? Should I let my phone get down to a really low percentage (and what would that be)? I'm happy with the setup. Long micro USB cord, both dash and vent mount (I'm using the vent mount, works fine in my Sienna). Even though I've only have it a day, it did top up my phone from 92% to 100% in a 5 minute drive.
Update May 8: when I put the phone in the charger it briefly indicates on the the screen that it is Fast Charging.
I'm really satisfied with this setup.

I ordered this one today. I was looking for one that went in the vent and noticed it comes with a bracket for this. I went with the $40 3 coil version (probably over kill) but I was either paying $5 for one day prime shipping on the $30 one or pay $40 with free one day shipping for the "better" version. Figured $5 extra for the next level one wasn't going to kill me. I previously used the Scoche magnetic vent dock but it interferes with my wireless charging at home. Once I decided I needed a new dock for the car, I figured I'd go with a wireless charger to get the job done. Love that it also comes with the clips to organize the wire clutter a bit too.

Hi all, I'm considering getting this device, but want to have wireless charging.
has anyone purchased a 3rd party wireless charging receiver, and if so, what has been your experience? are you using a case?
thanks!
The Pixels do not natively support wireless charging. You will have to wait for a company to make a wireless charging case that adds this functionality.
For example, on the Pixel 1:

looking at the reviews on Amazon, many users are claiming that it works fine with the pixel 2.

100% agreed.
that's why I enjoy my droid turbo (built in wireless charging).
however, i MAY be fine with accepting this so long as the battery life is great as it has been claimed (able to go a full day in between charges), and I may ask for a pair of them google pixel ear buds for my birthday.
so the solution would be to get an extra wireless charging pad (less than $10) and get a pair of wireless earbuds.
but if the deal breaker for me would be the battery life. my current device as a 3900mAh battery and can go all day and then some. but, it is 2+ years old, and the battery is deteriorating, so it's not lasting as long. but if the Pixel 2 can deliver, then I may be fine with that.
Honestly battery life has been really good for me. I get 4+ hours of SoT which includes playing games and watching videos.

Oh, very cool, actually! I would also be worried about continuous unplug/replug for anyone using wired headphones or wanting to plug in for faster recharge. Let us know if you try it!
Lost wireless charging when I got the Nexux 5x. Never really missed it much. While somewhat convenient, it was slow to charge and many times when I needed a fast charge I just plugged in anyway.
So, Nexus 5X -> Pixel -> Pixel 2, same thing, I have chargers where I need them and charging is pretty quick. So, at the office, in my truck, by the recliner and in my home office I have fast chargers. I am covered. I also have a fast chargers in my backpack when I out an about.

understood that wireless charging is a preference and not a necessity.
as for me, it's more of a convenience factor as well as less wear/tear on the port (and battery life from my understanding). to have the ability to pick it up and go rather than pulling on a cord is a great help.
i did this with my wife's iPhone 7. and she really enjoys it (and it's difficult to get her to adopt to new technologies - hence why she has an iPhone).

Hi all, I'm considering getting this device, but want to have wireless charging.
has anyone purchased a 3rd party wireless charging receiver, and if so, what has been your experience? are you using a case?
thanks!

I purchased the Spigen thin fit case and a Nillkin usb-c qi tag (short version). Have been using it for a few weeks and works with all my old Qi chargers used on my Nexus 6.
The case has a recessed area where the tag can sit without producing a bulge.

To throw my 2 cents in. Used a USB Type-C wireless receiver with my OG Pixel XL and it worked fine, as soon as received my PXL2 I connected the adapter but it was unfortunately insufficient to provide a decent charge, even over night, many times having the same or less battery percentage left than before laying it on the Qi charger. I have since tried 2 different wireless receivers with the same result. I've gotta believe they can manufacturer one that will out put enough juice to power and charge the battery. If anyone comes across one, please let the community know. TIA.
I've purchased the Nillkin short receiver and it does not work.
I charged it overnight in a thin Spigen case and it discharged 5% overnight.
I tried charging using the receiver outside of the case and at best pulled 0.31A on a 1.5A rated qi base.
What about one of the "Magsafe" type USB C cables (https://www.amazon.co.uk/COCHING-Magnetic-Charging-Lightning-Adapters/dp/B073HC1DJB/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1522506792&sr=8-3&keywords=usb+c+magnetic) if you're looking to reduce wear and tear? I assume you still get quick charge.
Looking at Nillkin's website, the tech specs on the USB-C "magic tag" give it a max output of 5V/1A. As we all know, Volts x Amps = charginess (or "Watts," for the electrical engineers). The power supply that comes with the Pixel 2 has an output of 5V/3A or 9V/2A.
So the phone's stock power supply charges at 15w or 18w. The Nillkin magic tag only feeds it 5w. At best, that's going to be a SLOOOOOOOOOW charge. The type 3 "fast charge edition" charger says it outputs more (10w). So the fast charger will send 10w to the magic tag, which will then feed 5w to your phone's battery.
Too bad. Seems like this could be a viable solution if there's a receiver that will output 10w. I mean, that still wouldn't charge as fast as the stock, wired power supply but at least it would probably charge. I'd love to have wireless charging with my new Pixel 2 but if the best it can do is 5 Watts, I'll live with the minor inconvenience of having to plug it in.
I thought wireless require all glass body which would be a no for me
Any suggestions? New to the wireless charging. 1st and last device I had that supported it was the Nexus 6 and with a case it didn't work so I gave up.

Best buy has a bundle deal with the pixel stand and it knocks the stand down to 59 dollars with a few other eligible bundle items.

I've had good luck with choetech products in the past. they have several wireless chargers, haven't tried any of the newer ones but they've pretty much been my go-to since the 6p and switching to usb c
This will be my first wireless charger.
Do we need to buy a certain type/spec or just buy any old wireless charger off of Amazon?
I'd like to find a slim matt-style to lay on my bedroom nightstand to just dump my phone on top of when I go to bed.
So in that sense, I'm fine with super slow charging.

it can do 10w, but in that case the older 5w ones will do. that said, back in the Nexus days I loved having the phone at an angle as a bedside clock (in fact, that's what my n7 is still primarily used for lol) so you may want to consider a stand charger.
So look for a 5W or 10W charger (or something in between), okay cool, thanks.
seriously yeah, I know that little about wireless.
Look for fast charge support and decide on a form factor. The small circles usually have a smaller sweet spot and by being smaller themselves make it easier for your phone to get bumped off of charge by kids, the dog, whatever, bumping the surface the charger is on. I'd consider spending a little more and getting a more stable platform rather than go with the small stuff. As said above if you want to see the phone on charge then you're going to need a vertical charger and you're going to need to decide if you want it in landscape or portrait and get a charger designed for that. If you're looking for a charger for use at a desk or in a working environment I would certainly lean toward upright so you can used your calculator and other tools while on charge. If you just want to flop it down to charge without any use of the phone then the lay flat versions tend to be cheaper.
Just bought two to try out on Amazon. Going to test them out on my Pixel 3 Xl and my ladies iPhone xs. Both chargers were under $20 each.

Caseology has a fast 10w wireless charger for 50% off on Amazon with a promo code, comes to about 20 bucks.....check my Caseology thread in accessories (it's a circular charger though, not the stand type)
I've bought this one and their wireless car charger and they both work great! I'd recommend them.

I just bought a pair of Nanami wireless stands from Amazon, 10 watts. It does do a fast charge, phone says charging rapidly. $26.00 with the charging brick, $16.00 without. I'm using the brick at my PC desk, and it's plugged into a 45 watt charger in my living room. Runs icy cool and really works well.
I say icy cool because I have an older Qi charger. The pad and the phone ran pretty warm which concerned me a bit.
The stand puts it at a nice viewing angle and makes the phone quite usable while charging.
This is NOT a paid endorsement
Lots of positive reviews.
There are standup wireless dock stations??
I need to Google this!
I have this one, it works and since I use it at night I don't care how long it takes to charge my phone.
AP has an article that says the Pixel 3 won't charge at more than 5W unless you have the Pixel stand. That's pretty lame on Google's part. It says the phone reports "charging rapidly" but really isn't. See here .
All of you might as well save your money and just get a decent one limited to 5w because that's what Google limited the pixel to for 3rd part wireless chargers
For everyone with wireless chargers can you kindly install Ampere from the playstore to confirm if any of them are charging above 500Mah ?

I can confirm that the Pixel Stand charges faster, but not the other fast wireless chargers that I have. The Seneo wireless charger that I have at my desk at work is only charging at ~500mA in spite of the fact that the phone indicates that it is "charging rapidly". I sincerely hope that Google fixes this and quickly.
