Im always on the lookout for a better camera app on this phone, and so i found this one. Its called "free camera" there is no ads or popups just a ask to donate. It seems to still have issue with exposure but that said it works awesome and has some pretty cool features. The thing i thought pretty cool is it allows you to choose if you want to use the volume buttons to control taking photo/zoom/exposure/focus/nothing. Here is a link https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.sourceforge.freecamera
free camera is a copy of OPEN CAMERA which is recomemnded by alot of people i suggest u use open camera instead just saying

I was wondering if there is a way to use either volume button as a shutter while in the camera app. I've been looking around in the forums but I've only seen threads about using those buttons as power buttons.
Thanks
Retro camera in the market can do it.
this was fixed with style before the evo came out
Dude fx camera zoom is a beast I have been using it it let's you remap any keys or even take it via audio command but in full quality 8mp plus it wouldn't be " fx camera" without some sick fx... UI is great got the volume keys on mine doing zoom with voice activated timer so I could still take the pics really just a whole lot of options bought it 2 years ago on the g1 and a hidden gem of an app
This is already available via the Camera Zoom FX app on the market. Not free, but is there. However I have found that it is buggy as hell.
Bugs I have noticed:
1. Pictures won't save. It's like they are stored in the cache. You take a picture, go to gallery to view it and it won't be there. If you reboot the phone it will be.
2. The "FX" don't always work. There are several effects that come stock with the app. They frequently don't do what they are supposed to or won't load at all. I have found that you can exit the program via the back buttons and then start it again to get the FX to load, but even that has stopped working.
3. It actually asks you to download Task Killer the first time you open the app. Going on about camera apps using memory and all. So in other words it has a memory leak and instead of fixing it they want you to manually kill the task.
It does what some in this thread are asking for. However I wouldn't suggest you buy it.
And can I get a mod to verify my account so I can post faster than every 5 minutes... getting this message:
To prevent spam to the forums, new users must wait five minutes between posts. All new user accounts will be verified by moderators before this restriction is removed.
Wish granted!
I was bored this morning. So i decided to make one... for free! (Also no ads!)
It's called: "Simple Cam" made by Insanity Systems on the android market. (unfortunately i can't post the link because i'm a new user it seems... if anybody's kind enough to do so in a reply i would appreciate it!)
it's 15k in size (and i think most of that is the PNG icon to be fair).
Super simple to use: Volume up to take a snap; Volume down to set the flash.
Saves pictures to sd card in folder "cameraPictures".
ENJOY!
P.S. Have a go at the other apps as well maybe you'll find something you like.

also, this feature is a part of cm7 already
Is there no app, utility or whatever to make a hardware key take a pic? Wow even the iPhone now "allows" you to use the volume up key to take a pic, much more aesthetically pleasing and easier to use.
So can an app do this, I would prefer it integrated into the norma camera interface, e.g. say the volume up, you don't need to use the volume up when taking a pic normally?
Does Google Android allow this as such? if so, I might try to right an app/utility, even though I can't code!?!

darn need a rooted device and ROM, I'm more of a stock man myself. Why if this can be done, do Samsung not include it? even as an On/Off option?
lern 2 live with a stock-phone and use another cam-app, or... u know

Procapture on play store does this,it has the option to change zoom key into capture key , sry i dont have a link right now, free version works ok but will only let u take photos in 3mp not 8mp
Yep, "procapture" camera is absolutely the best camera app ATM, no other camera comes even close to the quality of "procapture" but free version only allows 3 MP and that sucks. Buy it and try it...Don't like it? ..return it within 15 min return window..
ps. Use "photo gallery"(fish bowl) app, best gallery on market.
Have you tried the built-in function to take a pic by swiping your palm across the screen?
Whats wrong with the palm across the screen are you that lazy? lol..
Dannybuoy and meemo need to read better... Anyway, I find that using the built in timer is very handy. 5 second timer for example can work even better than having a hardware button.

Sure, I'm clever in some ways, but I'm also clever enough to be able to admit that there are much smarter people than myself. Hopefully, one of you super-smart people will take me up on this a make my year by helping out. Here's the scoop:
I love my Note 2. LOVE it! It's perfect in all ways....but one. My stock camera app is messed up, in the sense that when I record video, there is a popping sound (like static) that occurs from time to time. No way to predict it, and I've at least determined that it is the fault of one of the mics used. (no mic problem using phone or voice recording). This bums me out because, for the FIRST TIME EVER, I prefer the stock Samsung camera app over alternative camera apps. Just too feature-rich.
Now: I used the camera app "Snap Camera", which is based on Camera 4.2 and is great, just not as perfect for me as the stock app. HOWEVER, Snap Camera has a setting for "Use Alternate Mic", which totally solves my problem. NOW...if I could only disable that mic in the stock app...
I wrote to the developer of Snap Camera and asked if he knew how I could do so. His response was: "I don't think there is a way to override it, if you really want to change it you could use apktool to decompile the stock app, find the code that sets the audio source and change the mic value."
So now the problem is: I have no experience with that sort of thing and don't trust myself to do it correctly right out of the gate (I've already investigated some guides).
So, as the title of this thread states, I will pay a cool $20 to whoever is willing to take on this challenge and save my day/month/year.
PLEASE!
Try freezing or renaming the stock camera app. Rename to SamsungCamera.apk.bak

But won't that render it inoperable?

Not if you have another camera app.
ExperiMENTAL
Yes, but I WANT to use the Samsung camera. I just want to be able to disable the one mic, like it does in Snap Camera.
That is exactly what needs to be done, the key is finding the string of code that defines it. I know how to decompile and recompile, but I wouldnt have the faintest which one of the files holds that information.
Needless to say this isnt just swapping out .pngs or editing xml files. Lol!!
I generally like the stock camera app better than any paid or free alternative, but the auto WB blows pretty badly. Is there a hack to enable WB selection? Seems like a very Apple approach to a user interface. If I wanted the phone to think for me I would have probably bought an iPhone not an Android. Please save me from LG's stupidity ?
Although LG have left Write Permissions open for WB meaning other third party camera apps can access the WB settings they did not however write the default camera app to show and change these settings.
In general I do not like anything Auto on a camera as I choose to apply whatever settings I feel are applicable to the shot, however in the case of the LG G3 stock camera I honestly am generally very happy with the Auto settings they apply.
For occasions where I want to shoot using my own judgement I always choose the camera app 'A Better Camera'. Yes it is a paid app but boy does it deliver.
Google Camera app for kitkat custom roms of redmi 1S
Google Camera:http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google-inc/camera/camera-2-4-024-1564481-30-apk/
tested working on mokee and cm11..
The Good:
Okay so here’s what I liked.
Panorama Mode, Lens Blur Mode, and Photosphere Mode are really fun and easy to use. The camera guides you to taking really good pictures and although rendering and processing take a while, the results usually look quite nice.
The interface is simple and easy to use. You’re never more than a swipe or a click away from pretty much anything in the app. Switching modes is as simple as sliding the options out and clicking on them. The quick settings, accessing the gallery, and pretty much everything is right there just off screen for easy access.
It does what it says it does. All the features worked as intended. I personally didn’t experience any crashes or issues. Once you learn how the various modes work, there shouldn’t be any problems using them.
There are little design things that are pretty fun. The dual line zoom meter bar thing is fun to use and when you’re in video mode, it’ll try to get you to shoot in landscape mode by using a spinning icon. You can still shoot in portrait mode but let’s face it, no one likes it when people shoot in portrait mode and it appears as though Google is trying to remind people of that.
The bad:
And here’s the bad.
Its simplicity is its greatest strength but also its greatest weakness. If you’re used to the more complicated settings of other camera apps, then this is going to feel a little bit lacking for some people. You can’t adjust ISO, white balance, there are no filters, and there are no features like image stabilization. It’s really pretty basic stuff.
Some people have already begun complaining of various bugs. There isn’t a single bug that’s affecting everyone but little things that are affecting people. One such experience that I’ve heard a few times is the app crashing when using Lens Blur mode. A second is a lack of HDR on a lot of devices. I haven’t had any of these issues but they apparently exist depending on your device and version of Kit Kat.
My last problem is the lack of options when it comes to storage. If you have a device that has an external SD card, you can’t use it for storage. In fact, you can’t change the storage location at all. This is likely because of the Kit Kat SD card limitation problem that a lot of people don’t like so I hope your internal memory card has enough space because that is where your photos are going.
