First, you need to apply for unlock boot loader from Xiaomi website http://en.miui.com/unlock/, and unlock you boot loader.
Then you can install Twrp, and root or install room as you wish.

for root flash magisk

Begining in the OP3

Hello, i just got my OP3 a few hours ago, it came with OOS 3.2.5
So all i wanna do is just Root and have TWRP for now, what's the easiest way? The toolkit? is it updated or outdated now based on my Rom?
I Also watched some videos on how to unlock the bootloader, just want an easy way to root without messing too much, wanna appreciate the phone pure stock for now (with root ofc)

Noob question about rooting

I read a lot about this anti rollback thing so I am afraid I might wreck my device, but I really wish to have root for features such as adblock, dolby atmos and such.
I have been browsing and searching around this forum but have not found my answers ,so I will post it here.
My questions are:
1. Can rooting and new recoveries trigger anti rollback?
2. For time being I wish to remain on stable MIUI with OTA updates. Will root remove my OTA updates?
3. Is it possible to use magisk addons(like dolby, etc.) on pure stock MIUI.
4. If everything above is possible and I root, will every new MIUI update remove my root?
Thanks in advance

I dont know why, but it seems dolby doesnt work with note 5 pro, it just put phone into bootloop.
Correct me if i am wrong or if there is any alternative version available.

Root Without Unlocking Bootloader

Hi. I am about to purchase a Huawei Mate SE and wanted to know if there is a way to root without unlocking the bootloader. It looks like Kingroot and/or Kingoroot might be an option. I'm not new to rooting phones so I understand most of the basics. From what I read, I won't be able to install a custom recovery and therefore can't install custom ROMs which is fine. I mainly want root for apps like Titanium Backup and Greenify. I don't want to lose the ability to OTA. Is this possible? Thanks in advance for the help.
Kingroot and kingoroot are hot piles of garbage on oreo, and nougat. Pretty sure it only works up to lollipop.
Only way to root is to flash Magisk, and that requires an unlocked bootloader.
Dang. That sucks. Thanks for the response though
no need to install a custom recovery to get root. unlockbootloder densest effect ota. after u unlock ur bootloader you can flash a patch kernel that has Magisk

I just ordered this phone also. You should be able to get your bootloader unlocked with a service. See threads.
I sure hope so. Cause i plan on doing some stuff with this device.
Unlocking the bootloader is not difficult, but then there is a stupid bootloader unlocked warning that comes every time the phone restarts. And supposedly there is no way to turn it off for Huawei phones

How to root xiaomi mi a2 lite?

Finally bought it.
Still fresh and everything, also my first Xiaomi device.
I only ever rooted an old Samsung device and an LG device (forgot their series now, haha..).
So my goals/targets:
1. Root
2. Custom Rom (if any)
3. Unlock bootloader? If it is locked by default.
I haven't looked what OS version my device have, as I haven't booted it up. Rather finish up the rooting first before putting anything inside.
Thanks for your time!
1. Unlock the bootloader.
2. Root it.
3. No custom ROMs available unless you want to try a GSI.
For 1 & 2 go here.
For 3 go here. Really read up on how to install the GSI if you decide to go this route. There are some guides within this forum.

I tried following the link for 1 & 2
4. Now connect the phone with your PC via USB cable, open an administrative command prompt, move to the directory where the Android platform tools are placed and unlock the bootloader with the following command:
Code:
fastboot oem unlock
Got stuck here with "waiting for any device". Do you have any insight for this?
Edit: Nvm got it fixed.
But how do I root? Finished up everything on the thread but I'm still not rooted. The thread doesn't say anything about it either.
You have to flash magisk and install the app, then you can give root acces.

Installing Magisk gives you root.

Ah okay, it seems to be the app that I wanted to test root on being the problem of me thinking root is not there (and well, older version stating its rooted)
Helium Backup doesnt seem to work with root here. Does either of you use it and knows how to use Helium Backup with root on Mi A2 Lite? Or is the only way with Helium Backup from desktop?
I have had only used titanium backup (freeware), sorry but I don't know anything about helium.
What are you trying to recover/backup, only data or entire apps?

I just got my wife a new Nokia 3.1 (Oreo 8.1) and Helium wouldn't work on it. I was able to back up her old phone running KitKat, but with Oreo on the new phone it was a no go. Neither phone could be rooted so it was disappointing that Helium couldn't do the job. It appears that Helium is not compatible with Oreo.

Clarification Desired: TWRP and rooting

Hello all, sorry if I've happened to missed the guides.
I've rooted a few phones in the past and installed custom rooms, however, I do so infrequently and every time things change.
I only have a loose grasp of GIS roms, so I'll just let that one slide.
I have the mi A2 lite (obviously) and would like to root it or get a custom room that works well.
I don't mind stock, since it is not bloated.
I installed twrp, upgraded from android 8 to 9, then twrp disappeared.
I've read somewhere that I need to disable encryption for twrp, but maybe that's no longer possible that I'm on Android 9.
If I stay stock, will or will I not be able to continue OTA?
TL;DR: Hoping for a basic guide for how to root. I wouldn't mind custom rom, but stock is fine.
Thanks!
You dont have to install TWRP for root
You could install magisk and get OTA updates
