Redmi note 5 AI Low headphones volume problem - Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro Questions & Answers

Hello All,
Many users complain about low volume output from headphones for redmi note 5 AI and I'm confused about buying this phone because I'm listening to music during travel and high noise surronding me So I need high voulme output from headphones on my new phone
So, This problem is solved on MIUI updates or it's hardware issue ?
Thanks in advance

flash a custom rom and install the snapdragon equalizer and you have same good quality but with higher sound, try on pie roms

you can flash the stock rom and lock when ever you want to and not lose warranty when you want, miui is very limited in this kind of stuff

OxygenOS (every version) Exodus, OrionOS, and on other AOSP (not CM) based ROMs. I can't get it working with CM or CM based ROMs... :/

Oh good to know! Maybe I'll flash freedomOS or stock. On my old oneplus 3 I think I installed it on cm13.. Just can't remember how I did it..may have to modify audio_config but not exactly sure

This is just ridiculous... The OnePlus 3 has far superior headphone audio quality than the iPhone 6. The iPhone may be a bit louder but that's it, the OnePlus 3 provides significantly better quality. If your headphones sound better on your iPhone 6 than your OP3, you may need to get better headphones. Anyways your best bet would be Viper4Android if you really want to change the sound coming from the headphone jack
Just seen this blog. I have just bought the op3t and the sound quality doesn't touch Samsung or iPhone. Can it be improved through software or is it hardware related. Apart from sound, the phone is amazing.

Best rom currently?(Redmi Note 5 AI) and some other questions..

Hi,
I just got the redmi note 5 ai(global) 2 days ago and so far not impressed with the game performance. In shadow fight 3 there are lag spikes constantly and in modern combat 5 there's some audio issues(audio cracking).
My phone's firmware is 9.5.6.0 global. Is it the firmware's fault? If so, can you guys suggest me some roms? I heard that chinese rom's performance is better. Should I switch to that or should I just wait for the next global release?(when is it coming anyway?).
Another thing, if I unlock my phone and flash a custom rom would it void my warranty? If I switch back to default before going to service center, everything should be fine right?
1- yes i have the same issue , sound cracking specially in SoundCloud and performance not equal for 636 chipset
but im still on the miui and waiting for update
2- as far as i know yes you avoid your warranty by unlocking your phone and you cant revert that
Unlock doesn't void your warranty, it's even written in the unlock tool.

Stay on MIUI till there is a update for global developer rom. MIUI is always going to the most stable. Xiaomi is working on MIUI 10. So we should see a release in next couple months. Next month we should see a update. Bug fixes and system improvements.
I would suggest you to install both miui 9.5 and LOS, thanks to Multirom
In fact (at this moment) i find LOS as stable as the MIUI (also if LOS is unofficial). You should really try something like this

Question before buying

Hello dear XDA Experts
Which Xiaomi phone shall I buy (in Europe) that will be the most popular Xiaomi device for a long time (people will talk about it and buy it for a long time), have the longest support and have many and many custom roms made even after pulling it off the market and most of all custom rom Devs will love it?
Any answer is welcome to help!
BTW Do these devices met the above criteria? (Redmi Note 5 (Pro or non Pro, remember Europe), Pocophone F1, Redmi Note 6 (if it is available in Europe))

POCO SD845
Note 5 AI (whyred) SD636
MI A2 Lite SD625
The best phone is POCO by far because of the processor, but im not sure about the rom development and stuff. Whyred has alot of custom and miui based roms to play with.
If you prefer pure stock android MI A2 or lite is the phone for you.

I love MIUI but If any kind of Xiaomi phone with pure Android would have best dev support, best roms, much mor roms than I want to get that phone.
I forgot to mention that I hunt for from low to mid budget phones. POCO can be bought by me i it turns out that he wins my criterua,
I bought Redmi Note 5 Pro due to the FLASHING brochure showing 6gb ram on 275USD ! however after i bought i found following problems and I am actually 70% regreting my purchase!
1. MIUI has keyboard switch key coming in notification panel so every time if i have to switch Gboard to Swiftkey i must pull down notification panel and make the switch (where all other phones in market has that keyboard switch key on navbar (far right)
2. OVERALL very low speaker and call quality! , even after mending mixerpath file! i could not enjoy the music! it becamse only 25% louder , no matter what values I play with ..
3. the CAMERA, the secondary dual camera is more of a cosmetic effect! i didnt find any options in camera app to take 3d fotos or optical zoom etc
furthermore
4. due to my daily aggresive social media usage and typing! i had try custom roms! ( xiaomi shipping unlocked phones to middle east) so i simple flashed various custom roms ( PE, RR6.2, crdroid, lineage, Omni, ArrowOs) and in all the ROMS, whatsapp acts funny when calling or hearing audio notes! and overall volume still low! , only in ArrowOS i could find my self accepting the volume quality (android p ) , but whatsapp keep making android P reboot...
now the GENERAL TRICKY PART which btw made me think i would never buy Xiomi phone again! even Pocophone on $300 or even if it drops to $100 !
A, if your device get BRICKED in flashing custom roms, there is NO WAY to connect it in EDL mode for you to FLASH THE ORIGINAL ROM VIA miFLASHER
B, you must remove back panel! remove battery wire and short two points to make RN5p goto EDL mode! and
C, on top of that YOU MUST HAVE AUTHORIZED MI ACCOUNT TO FLASH otherwise it will fail....
D, if you wana save your bricked RN5P, take it to service center even for flashing and spend money! and for me, Dubai is the only place service centre of MI , so i have to send my device to UAE in order to get flashed!
so that made me think that xiaomi in 2018 is ONE TIME BUY and THROW device
the question is not WHICH MI phone should u be buying?
the bigger question is , are you aware of the complications comes with all 2018 xiaomi phones ?

1. Keyboard: many others are the same

3. No 3D, optical zoom for cheap phone

The end: show me a better choice, quite good phone with very good battery life

1. keyboard: i tried 8 custom roms and everyone has AOSP navbar handler
2. whatsapp: i was talking about custom roms. i have used whatsapp on Sony on Omnirom. it never gives bugs but whatsapp on Omnirom on RN5p acts funny
3. Camera: as i said the secondary camera is more of an cosmetic affect
4. my REDMI3s got bricked when i was simply flashing MIUI7.5 via twrp. TWRP hung and the device never booted! so there is strong chance that twrp may fail to flash properly! . Irrespective of whatever made your device bricked (anti rollback policy or bad flash) the point is, I dont have control in my hands
since the OP hasn't asked anything about battery life and mainly he wanted to have device within xaiomi having many custom roms experiment with SO my answer was based on his question---however since you've asked a decent device with good battery life then for you NOKIA 8 would be the best in budgeted midrange devices! ! its almost same price range! 1. Keyboard: if you like to switch keyboard, just choose what you like: 1 more action with Miui or AOSP/PE Rom which many available for you.
2. The way you use keyboard and whatsapp not the OP question so don't need to talk too much about it. Just your style.
3. Cam: you have option: change Miui Cam setting or using GCam which give you much better quality
4. No ARB for RedMi3s and most other Xiaomi phones so no disaster here. Any other phones can be bricked.
You wrong about dummy, stupid design, super thick bezels Nokia 8 for current phones gen. It also not S845 phone, small screen and failed product

1. to give him fair picture I honestly thought its worth mentioning since i haven't found any other modern days rom having switch keyboard panel NOT part of navbar accept in MIUI
2. its covered in 1 only.
3. gcam on miui doesn't work fully only sept2016 version ran (and didnt crash)
4 again, if by any chance the phone is bricked, i cannot press both volume and power keys to enter in EDL mode (like in Redmi3s)
you asked for good phone with nice battery , so i mentioned Nokia 8, and yes sorry about sd845, its sd835 with 6gbram and 5.3"screen with hardkeys, so u are getting full 5.3" to work with. THe bezels aren't that much they way you have metioned

sir, 3d touch is, on home screen when you touch (lets say facebook) app icon and keep your finger on it for few mircoseconds , it opens submenu to various famous action (new post/video/app info / etc ). its a convenient if you want to change app properties (clear data/ fix notifications/ or uninstall ) all under on finger click. other wise to achieve all such you will have to goto traditional way under settings.
3d touch gives most used action by stats of that perticular app in submenu
workaround
the only workaround is to install another launcher , funny thing is, Xiaomi's launcher found on Googleplay has 3d touch! , Pocophone f1 launcher also has it.

In Samsung S8 when I push my finger for a few seconds (with the same force BTW) I only get 2 options: remove icon or uninstall app.
Is this a properly working 3D touch?
If you had the budget I suggest you to buy Poco since the phone is a hype and many people are buying it now. I believe Poco community will be live as long as Redmi 3/3 pro, 3s/3x, note 3 forum because of that hype (it is on xda since late 2015 and still alive now). I remember back then people got hype over the phone and we knew some people still looking for it even after redmi 4a/4x.
Oh a piece of cake, for aesthetic reason you might be falling in love with MI 8 lite, it is so beautiful.

Thank You for all Your help.
I gotta say You kept me thinking.
Cause If You would just see how all electronics shops make huge deliveries and still can't supply well enough for the giant demand of RN5.
I asked around in my country (Europe) and all the people say since RN5 is such a sales hit than it will have an incredible amount of custom roms and support for 3 years minimum from the Devs. They don't thing POCO will beat it in roms cause it's mainly bought by gamers. Gamers however dont flash custom roms when they have a beast that will eat every game.
Maybe in Your country the situation is somewhat different but as You can see the mania of RN5 is running wild that's why I was reluctant to hear from You that POCO will win in my 1st topics requierments.
BTW My people are poor and the difference between POCO and RN5 is 150 USD and that is very huge cash for us.
I respect Your predictions and I thank You very very very much for them.
As You can see try to fill in my shoes and don't be surprised that I am reluctant about POCO beating RN5.
Therefor please comment this reply as widely as You can when You get some peace quiet time please.

I know it is a huge cash difference since I personally buy RN5 instead of Poco haha. But yeah people really looking for Poco here and they will pay another 150 USD for it.
What about RN5? After 2 weeks using it I don't face any problem. People said they got a or b or c problems, and I would confuse as I didn't get it. Since I'm a hard gamer too, it is crucial to look for performance and it is satisfying.
Both phone are good and has really active forums, it is your choice after all to buy the phone. Hope you get the best which suits your need.

Is mi a2 lite the right phone for me?

Hi all.
I have to buy a new phone and I'm considering the mi a2 lite.
I want a phone that isn't as big as the most of the other phones and that is cheap (around 150 €).
I want to use a custom rom with privacy guard tool and that will support the phone for few years.
For example the rom resurrection remix, why the thread in the forum is closed? Is the mi a2 lite still supported by resurrection remix?
Should I buy the mi a2 lite or there is a better choice?
Thanks.
The phone its a great option if you dont want a good camera for night...
RR its supported official, https://get.resurrectionremix.com/?dir=daisy
I dont know why is the thread closed...
Mi a2 is a better option... but more cost
It's good but not the best.
You will get a big battery, decent camera and screen, but software I think it's the worst.
Android One sucks, try to get a device with MIUI
Thanks for the replies!

On Amazon there are the a2 and the a2 lite at the same price now.
The problem is that the a2 is bigger than the a2 lite and I don't like big phones:
https://www.kimovil.com/en/compare/xiaomi-mi-a2-64gb,xiaomi-mi-a2-lite-4gb-64gb#design
In your experience, if the device is officially supported by resurrection remix, will I have the phone supported for at leas two years?

Are these considerations valid if I install resurrection remix rom?
The only things that I need are the small dimensions of the phone and the official support by a rom with privacy guard tool.
This phone is part of the AndroidOne program which means "timely" (!) security updates and 2 years of feature updates, so it is going to get Android Q. Some things you need to know:
-I think at this point Xiaomi, doesn't give a flying f*** about their AndroidOne devices. You will get the monthly updates at the end of the month and it will be nothing but a security patch, no bug fixes what so ever. Current stock Android Pie has many bugs, but Xiaomi doesn't seem to address those issues. Stock firmware is usable but they broke Cam2API functionality on Pie, so for now I'm using rooted stock Oreo ROM, which is stable enough and with some modules gives me about 11h of SoT.
-Fingerprint sensor is a bit slower than my old Huawei P8 Lite 2017, but it's okay.
-Back camera is great in good lighting, but any absence of light then boom, your camera sucks now. Best option is to enable Cam2API manually (although the phone supports it, Xiaomi doesn't enable it on their AndroidOne devices lol - MIUI has it enabled though, AFAIK) and install Gcam, then the phone shoots great pictures, whether in bad or good lighting. Front camera sucks hard without Gcam.
-I haven't faced any slowdown issues (except on Pie, again), phone is buttery smooth and mine has 4 GB of RAM, RAM management is OK too.
-Current custom Pie roms don't have Gcam support as of now, as soon as they get it, I'm jumping on the custom ROM train.
-You'll probably be satisfied with the battery life.
-Speaker quality and loudness is amazing, headphone quality is also great. (I stopped using Viper4Android on this phone, because sound quality satisfies me as it is)
-One chronic issue you need to take note is that when charging the phone, touchscreen is irresponsive. It fails to register your touches many times you use it while charging, if you're planning to use it on charge, this is not the phone for you. Hell, none of the phones are for you because phones shouldn't be used while charging IMO.
-Build quality is great, I was afraid I was gonna get a cheap looking and feeling product hence the price. But it provides that good quality feel. (only downside being Micro-USB)
This phone is great for a budget. If you're planning to use it with custom ROMs, you're gonna get much more from the device and it will make you happy. Hope I was helpful.
Thaks for your reply marstonpear.
There are some defects, but if I have understand correctly, you are satisfied with this phone.

I read that this problem is not present in all the phones and can be caused by the screen protector: https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-a2-lite/help/keyboard-lags-horribly-charge-phone-t3886508

I don't know since I can't install twrp in my Mi A2 Lite.
But you can get a good experience if you install some custom ROMs, but there are some bugs but if you don't mind that so its ok.
I had a Asus device (Zenfone GO) and the software was just terrible too, but I installed twrp and installed rr with Android 5.1 at the time, and I got a good experience even though it's a bad device with weak performance.
But if you can install TWRP so do it, install a custom ROM in it
You are buying a Android One device with advantage of 24 monthly updates, so think again before rooting it and install custom ROM and blah blah blah...
I'll wait for Android Q. But the software isn't that bad, it's just a little buggy and clean.

I'm thinking to use a custom rom because I want to use the lineage's privacy guard tool, that is present in resurrection remix rom.
I know that install a custom rom on a new phone with official updates is not a very good idea, but I haven't found another phone with dimensions and price similar to this.
Do you know a better alternative?
Can I use the encryption with a custom rom?

Question Poco F3 worth getting for only custom ROMs?

I am thinking of getting the Poco F3, but I would not want to use MIUI and would prefer to use a custom rom.
I watched this video and don't know if what this guy is saying is true or not.
Would it be worth buying this phone if I am only going to be using a custom ROMs, or should I pay more for a phone that has better software by Oneplus, Samsung etc...?
I've used custom ROMs in the past, but it was mainly because my old phone no longer received support. I am on Lineage OS on my Oneplus 5t.
Thanks!
I picked up the Poco F3 BECAUSE there were custom ROMS and there are a few that are already really good so I wouldn't hesitate to buy one. I may even buy another one and sell my 512GB S21 Ultra. (Update, bought another F3) Don't pay attention to that guy on Youtube, do what you want to do.

Yeah I totally agree. This device is cheap and has all the qualities of a flagship killer. All the devs are interested in it and are buying it to develop for it. So in the future expect to get a ton of Custom Roms and Mods for F3.
You cant go wrong with this device.
Period
Yeah i agree.
Totally agree . I recently picked up one after selling my 3A only for custom rom. I hate MIUI and have already initiated steps to unlock the bootloader to flash custom rom.
I had an redmi 7A and when i saw the bloatware on miui my eyes popped out Jesus Christ.
Not to mention to root the stock rom you need to patch the boot.img specially for this phone and to mention it was 32bit rom on a 64bit CPU arghhh!!!!!
I only bought this device because it had superb hardware for the price and I could flash custom ROMs.
I believe in the community of the custom ROMs and think it is a great deal, I was thinking of getting some oneplus or even Nokia phones but I realized it is one of the best that we could get so enjoy flashing
Why would you even go towards Nokia..? Oneplus i get it but Nokia...

because I really like the stock feel, and Nokia is driven with an android one.
Hey mate, just flash my F3 right after one week of waiting for bootloader.
Gona say YES, IT IS FREAKING WORTH IT.
Come from Galaxy S9, after so tired with the bloat of Samsung, I flashed LOS, and man it is fast.
But, with my F3 on ArrowOS, right now, it is insanely fast.
Just buy it, you will not regret. But it is my personal opinion. The choice is your.
Within the price range, F3 already deiminated all other option. But with custom ROM, it decimates even the flagship

Just buy it. Performance to price point, nothing wins Poco F3
The only downside is the MIUI that comes with it which is sluggish and buggy. I flashed mine to ArrowOS and loving the device more now.
Have sticked to MIUI 12 and upgraded to MIUI 12.5 where they removed multiple Do Not Disturb schedules, that is when i know is time for me to flash the rom
Ok just watched the video.
His logic makes no sense at all! According to him buying a windows pc and putting Linux on it would be equally stupid. And the "paid devs" are less likely to unleach the full potential of a device then the "unpaid devs" because of model postioning and other commercial conciderations. So... still glad I bought my F3 for the custom roms
just bought poco f3 and I can tell you the MIUI isn't so bad (12.5.3) it is super smooth and with lots of features and configuration in it (double tap to wake and sleep, double fingerprint for flashlight..) themes are also rich. The main weak point is camera app that is not as developed as gcam but... you can instal gcam ports (8.1) that already work very well!! So yes this phone is sort of perfect.
Hi people,
I am looking for a custom ROM for Poco F3 that has the following:
1. Allows you to hide apps from the app list; not just lock the apps. For now I use LineageOS and I use a separate launcher and AppHider
2. Ideally, comes without GApps or G services. I'd love to try GrapheneOS but it comes for Pixel devices only
3. Allows multiple instances of apps eg. Whatsup, etc. I have seen this in a custom ROM but dont remember which one
Also, why do all the threads about F3 refer to 11x and K40?
Any suggestions?
Thanks a l lot
John

Xiaomi = main brand
Mi, Poco, and Redmi = sub-brands
Mi focus on high end flagship phones, Poco focus on mid end performance phones. Redmi focus on lower end value for money phones
Mi 11x, Poco F3, and Redmi K40 are the same phone targeting different regions with different launch date.
