Hi guys, does anyone know how to turn off knock on on the G3? Tried looking for it in gestures settings like in the G2 but can't seem to find it. The g3 keeps waking while in my pocket making it feels constantly warm. Anyone else experiencing this? I don't mind just using the button at the back to wake it. The placement for the button is quite comfortable actually.
I'm sorry to hear this is a problem on the g3, I have this problem on the double tap to wake code on my Nexus 5 and so I just turned it off. I know for the galaxy 2, sorry g2, voice dictation, they released firmware fix for this I think

Can you tell me how you did the wake code on the nexus 5?
And to the op, isn't there a setting in the screen gestures section of the phone to turn it off?
You can turn it off in the hidden system settings menu
Dial 3845#*855# to access it.

It is the very last setting in the list, just scroll all the way down to the bottom.
If you have the Korean model replace the 855 with 400
I turned this feature off as it will save battery life too as it needs to keep the screen driver awake happy using the back button.

855 opens my hidden menu. But I still can figure out which option to choose after scrolling down to the bottom. The screen shot shows my menu. Could u let me know which option should I be disabling?

we don't have that functionality by default, it's patched into custom kernels and eats 2-3% battery per hour (another reason I turn it off)
Just so you know, I had issues with Knock On unlocking my phone in my pocket so I turned it upside down and the issue is 100% gone !
I think it's due to the light sensor not being 100% in the dark then the taps on the lap unlocked the phone. When it's upside down the light sensor is kept in the dark
I just can't find that setting... Ive looked everywhere. My phone is rooted with towelroot. Is that the problem?

Is it really the light sensor? I think the proximity sensor would make more sense in this case! Otherwise you wouldn't be able to use the knock on feature in the darkness...
Screen wakes in my pocket whichever way up I put it in and I don't want to have the screen face outwards. This is very annoying and didn't happen on my G2 - The screen is clearly very sensitive. I don't want to turn off knock on and I don't really like knock code.

Same here. Upside up or Upside down makes no difference for me. Display from body away seems to be the only real solution...
Looks like a few of u are experiencing the same problem. I have been facing the screen away from me as a solution but it feels so awkward when I m so used to have the screen face in. And I can't find the hidden settings to turn knock on off. They really hid very well I guess.
Hello,
I just bought LG G4 for a week . It perfect in every way, I love camera so much.
But I have one problem ,sometimes double tap to wake is not work properly no matter I try to knock ( knock slow or fast)
Until I need to press the button at the back, and then screen is turn on and I can use knock on again.
Is my G4 is normal ?
Thank you for your answer
Jo
It happens. For many it's rare and others it's more common. Mainly it's because of the touchscreen issues the g4 has.
Happens occasionally for me. Just tap a little harder.

If you have a knock code set up, try tapping the knock code instead of double tap. Occasionally, even when the phone should be unlocked, it'll wake up from the knock code but not the double tap. I discovered this when I got frustrated and double tapped repeatedly, then the screen came on and said if I entered the knock code incorrectly one more time I would be locked out.

Same problem here, my phone looks like is deeply sleeping
i have to try tapping at least 3-4 times in order to wake it up,
it begins to be frustrating! If it helps i have a 10B fw
Mine can work even with a very light touch, almost like a normal finger press to select an icon when the phone is on. Usually I would tap somewhat harder, but out of curiosity I tried a very light touch and it still worked to wake the phone.
Try tapping on the upper half of the screen. Sometimes the Smart lock is activated after 4 hours of un use.

it doesn't matter if you tap lightly or harder
this is not a resistive type of screen (like in the old days where you have to tap harder for the screen to register touches), but capactive
capactive screens don't differentiate between taps - every tap is the same
the issue is with LG - this is a known bug where some taps do not register and thats why double tap to wake doesn't work properly
this has been a number 1 problem for me with this phone
I have to tap like a maniac most of the time, before phone will wake up..
For awhile the G2 had a similar issue. One trick that helped me: on your last tap, hold it for a bit longer. So if you you have it set to unlock when you double tap, instead of a quick tap, tap you would go tap, taaap. I know that sounds weird, but by holding the last tap it seemed to register the code better, for whatever reason.
Good luck! As always, YMMV.
Mine does this, especially when charging. Tapping on the top left works almost always.

I have found that if you have any type of security lock on the phone it doesn't work when tapping in the area of the lock (knock code area or pin). Even when smart lock is enabled I have noticed only tapping in the upper third of the screen will the phone wake up.
I have more success with knock code when screen is off than double tap, but I don't like having the code so I deal with the missed taps. Can anybody with the latest firmwares chime in here? I haven't updated ls991 to zv5 yet cause I don't want to deal with the "1" bootloader thing
Guys its not a bug dont double tap the corners of your phone it will not work just tap middle of the screen. Always work for me

Glad this helped!
I've discovered that Smart Lock doesn't always unlock the phone when connected to a trusted bluetooth device (especially if the device isn't in use but just connected), or when using a trusted place but not enabling High Accuracy for location. In these cases, the knock screen is waiting on the blank screen and it won't take double tap to unlock.
I turned on High Accuracy locations and double tap almost always works at home. If the bluetooth device is in use (streaming media, etc.) double tap also almost always works too.
Hi all, i also have a tap issue on my lg g4, the lg service repairman said they would replace my front cover, is this the proper way to solve the tap/touchscreen issue? Please help me as i am really frustrated with my g4. Thanks and God Bless! John Aleta

FWIW, If you are on Verizon, a new update has been released which is supposed to help with the touch issues.
Is this covered by the new LG warranty announcement?

I was searching for a way to make Tasker wake phone when I pick it up, so I just have to at it to unlock it. In looking into this, I discovered Gravity Screen, which amongst other things, can wake your phone when you pick it up, straight to Face Unlock. It seems to work well but I'm not sure of the impact on battery. I'm not using it to lock the screen... Really only using it for the one thing.

I've been using this app on my last two phones in order to be able to double tap the home screen on my launcher (Action Launcher) to turn off the screen, WITHOUT locking the phone. For some reason though, this no longer works on the OP5T, double tapping just simply won't trigger the screen off shortcut. Really disappointed in this, are you able to get this to work on yours?
I do also use its proximity sensor feature so that it automatically turns the screen on upon removal from my pocket, and it turns the screen back off once I put the phone back into my pocket, which triggers the angle needed to turn the screen off. That feature still works as intended, and better yet, preps the screen for the face unlock. And as far as I can tell, hardly uses any extra battery.

Hmmm... I use Nova Launcher and I use the double tap to lock the phone. I've never wanted it to not lock. I wasn't aware that there is a double tap action in Gravity Screen? I'll have a look.

It's not really within Gravity Screen itself, you'd have to use the launcher to set up the double tap on home screen to a shortcut. From there, you can pick one of Gravity Screen's shortcuts that allow you to either just turn off the screen, or do a persistent off screen, where you have to use the power button to bring it back on. I believe the problem I had with using the double tap to lock screen feature built into the launchers is that it forces you to have to enter in a password afterwards...face unlock or fingerprint do not work.

Nope, I don't have root. I did try the same shortcuts with Nova, and it didn't work there either.
have used the app on my old OPO.. now on 5T it's just perfect.. just pick up the phone.. and prepare for landing on homescreen without any tap or button press
does not consume a lot of battery
I've used this in the past as a way to turn on the screen when it comes out of my pocket
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tf.wakeongesture
This application wakes up your phone, and it works well on my OP5T, it's called "Always on AMOLED"you can download it from F-Droid open source apps, Yalp Store and Google Play. I like that it is low on resources, double tap wake up screen option, lock screen clock, date, battery, custom message and notifications.
Hi there
I just switched from a Asus Zenfone 5z which has a dedicated fingerprint sensor. So one touch and you ard on home screen.
Now the fingerprint sensor on Note 10 + is slow, also the fact that one has to first click the side key and then put the finger on the screen and seemingly wait for 2 sec.
It is nowhere near as fast as the zenfone 5z.
Have you guys got any better solution or idea to unlock it fast.
Thank you for your time.

You don't exactly have to turn on phone to use fingerprint reader.
If you know the position of fingerprint reader then putting your finger there would turn on and unlock phone. But that would be if you can get it on right position. If not it would tell you and then you can readjust as it will then show you.
Other option would be to have always on display and would show position of fingerprint reader.
You can also double tap to wake up phone as well. Then go through same process.
Hope some others could add more but these has been what I've found out with my usage.

Enable the gesture "lift to wake"
Enable "always on display" so that you always see the finger print location.
What ever finger you use most for the finger print, scan it for 2 spots out of the 4 available. So I have my left thumb for 1, right pointer for 2, and right Thumb for 3 and 4. My right thumb is now always solidly fast.

1. Please clarify : Do you mean to register the same right thumb twice to increase accuracy of the right thumb, as that is what I mostly use.
2. Currently always on display is set as tap to show.
Does making it always show have any significant reduction in battery.
And that you for your time, you are very helpfull.

Didn't even know that I had to just press the locked screen.
Also thank you for recommending the lift to wake up gesture, has increased the speed a lot.
Still wondering if I can use NFC to keep it unlocked as it is always kept on a phone stand.
Many thanks for your time.

You can use Smart lock Trusted places under settings-lock screen to keep phone unlocked. You just have to turn on phone then just swipe to go into phone without password but it will lock after a certain timeframe if not used.

I do know about Smart Lock but prefer not to use it as keeping the GPS on does feed the location data to other apps as well, not something I prefer to give away.
Thank you for the recommendation though.
You can register your face as well. It works really fast with lift to wake up gesture.
Smart lock can be used without GPS on, it uses a trusted wifi network to keep the phone unlocked or, if you have one a bluetooth speaker...
Don't need GPS at all...
Another vote for smart lock but with a wearable like a wear os watch. I pretty much never have to unlock my phone.
In case helpful to someone else, I enabled the increase touch sensitivity setting under Display settings and the fingerprint seems to work much quicker as I don't have to press down harder.

#2 It's a 4300mah battery, the AOD doesn't even dent it.
Happy to help!
I have AOD set to always on, and it is super easy to unlock.
I pick up the phone, hold my thumb on the sensor and it is unlocked instantly. I don't see how it could get any better than that!

Yes I turned ut on as well as the phone comes with a factory applied screen protector and that is what that setting seems to be for. Should have been on by default.
With the Face unlock you need to have some kind of primary unlock. After I have the Face Unlock, why is it asking for my pattern unlock? Sometimes I see the silly face and sometimes I see the lock
What are your thoughts?
Thanks

When is it asking for pattern unlock? If you are using for secure payments like Google Pay, it asks for pattern or fingerprint unlock as face unlock on 7T is not secure....Face unlock on 7T can only be used to unlock the device and nothing else...
Here's an example I just did. The phone is on my desk and dark. I picked up the phone, double tapped to wake the phone to the lock screen. I see the lock on the screen instead of the face icon

Using your example, when I double tap the screen it awakens the ambient display, showing me the time and any notifications that are on the screen. Also, the fingerprint scanner is active and lit up. I believe this is the intended behavior. The double tap simply wakes the ambient display.
If you want face unlock to kick in, you should press the power button.
One Plus told to switch to a pin instead of a pattern and it seems to work better. But you suggestion of using the power button is also on par, Thanks!
This problem also frustrates me. The issue is that the time out for face unlock to search for a face is WAY TOO SHORT.
