128GB Micro SD Card will work on note 8 [N5120]?

I would like to know if the 128GB Micro SD Card will work on note 8 [N5120]?

According to the Samsung specs for the Note 8.0 the upper limit for the micro SD card is 64GB. The 128GB cards might work (I don't have one to try) but they are not supported.
If you buy memory cards on eBay you might not have to worry about that since there are many fakes being sold there with much less than the advertised capacity. I suggest Amazon as a better source, and there are some fakes there too, but they are much easier to return.

It should work, as there has been reports in threads that 128GB SD cards work. You may find a faster type even better. I had a thread on using super fast SD cards.

This one looks like a better deal.
That item is sold and fulfilled by Amazon which is always the best way to buy items if there is any chance that you might return them.

I tested a few SDXC 600x and 633x cards, and found that Ultra SD cards are not that good for speeds. Extreme or Extreme Pro is the way to go.
Lexar, PNY and Samsung Pro SDXC cards are very quick but costly once you get to the 128GB sizes.

Remember that you're talking about a tablet here and not a digital camera where write speeds are much more important. Were your benchmarks run with the cards in the tablet or connected to a PC or another device?
I doubt that it will be worth the money to go for an "Extreme" micro SDXC card if he is mainly looking for more capacity for the tablet.

Some don't care about speeds and can get by with a standard SD card.
For running apps from SD which many do or want video playback from HD sources, you need a fast read time. Plus if you have large backups, you can save minutes off your backup and restore times.
Just saying as I call it. Don't need to throw numbers down as they are trivial, real world walks the walk, while benchmark numbers can only talk the talk.

Whoa! I believe that term is "calling it as you see it" which is another way of saying you are expressing your opinion and you have every right to do that. :good:
I asked a simple question and you didn't even bother to answer that. Have you benchmarked the cards in this tablet or not? You brought up your testing of "ultra" versus "extreme" but never described how you did that.
A couple of years ago phones and tablets wouldn't benefit from anything faster than a class 4 SD card and I doubt that the readers in them have improved that much since then. Here's an article with advice about buying SD cards for an Android device, including what speeds are appropriate. I'm asking you to identify what the "real world" experience is going to be using the card as the OP intends, not benchmarking them with a USB 3.0 reader on a PC with Crystal Disk Mark or some similar app, versus something like A1 SD Benchmark on the Note 8.0 itself.
There's a thing called the law of diminishing returns and IMO spending a lot of money to upgrade from "Ultra" to "Extreme" may fit that. It's easy to spend someone else's money but most of us have to buy what we need and conserve it. There's one scenario where that might make sense and that's if the plan is to use the card often in a fast USB 3.0 reader on a PC to load a lot of data, like movies, and he can't afford to wait for the class 10 write speeds. Otherwise, he may wind up buying a Ferrari when he needs an Audi.
And if you want to be respected as an expert be prepared to be challenged when you are expressing opinions and not facts. That's real world.

I'm glad to report I successfully mounted a Sandisk Ultra 128GB MicroSDXC (exFAT) without issues in my Galaxy Note 8.0 WiFi (GT-N5110)
Note: I'm running CyanogenMod 11.0. Therefore, I can only conclude the hardware is compatible although I have no idea if the official Samsung ROM supports it.

According to SanDisk (see link in post #7 above) the 128GB Ultra microSDXC card is compatible with the Note 8.0 so it should work with the stock ROM. Only the N5100 and N5110 models are mentioned, but the hardware and software that affects the SD card should be the same for all Note 8.0 models.

I too use the SanDisk SDXC UHS-1 micro's and they DO indeed work. I have the 128's in all my Sammy devices. They are awesome. Here is the suggested model to purchase. I have bought dozens of these without incident. They've all worked perfectly in Note 8, Tab 10.1 and Galaxy S3, S4, and S5.

No. That's an SD card and the Note 8.0 requires a micro SD format.

You need to go with the 128GB Sandisk Ultra microSDXC card that's been discussed throughout this thread. It's plenty fast for the Note 8.0 and AFAIK there is no "Extreme" version available in the 128GB microSDXC format at this point.

I don't know where you got that product number but these are the official SanDisk product numbers (click the specifications tab) for their microSDXC Ultra cards with adapter. Anything other than those product numbers is probably just packaging differences and I think the important part is "SDSDQU-128G".
There are a lot of fakes floating around for this card so I highly recommend purchasing from a reputable dealer with a reasonable return policy.

Slow down a sec ramjet73. -smiles- That was the number included with my purchase. Mine was bundled when I bought it 6 months ago. Since my purchase SanDisk has also changed the video spec of the cards as well. The "important" number is in fact SDSDQU-128G. For the record here is the EXACT link for purchasing the Sandisk 128gb microSD card for anyone interested. This is the EXACT microSD card latest manufacturer revision. (hopefully it posts to the forum). Buy from a reputable seller. I agree with ramjet73 - Do not buy counterfeit. You will not get the rated specs or performance.

(edit) My Model number in the original post contained "AFFP" at the end of the model number. This is a packaging identifier and refers to "Frustration Free Packaging" and is simply how the item is sold and presented to the consumer at the time of sale. The important part is the "SDSDQU-128G" number leading it and of course the SanDisk brand.

That's another full size SD card that won't fit in the Note 8.0 and I've told you how I feel about eBay so I'm not going to recommend anything from there. If you have to buy from eBay for some reason the original card you linked will work but make sure to check out the seller well and read the reviews from the buyers that have purchased memory cards. If you are sold on the idea of getting something faster than the Sandisk Ultra class 10 card you are going to have to downsize to 64GB and then there are are some "extreme" options available that are compatible with the Note 8.0.
I've already contributed what I can to your OP about the SanDisk 128GB Ultra miniSDXC card and I think the considerations and options for getting that are pretty clear now. If you want to change the scope and look at anything that's compatible with the Note 8.0 I'll leave it to the other users participating in this thread to give you advice.

Well, smiles or not, that's exactly the same link I included yesterday in post #5 above so I was wondering why you were contradicting that with your product number recommendation. When I Googled the product number you posted previously it seems to be something that's specific to BestBuy and not the SanDisk identifier. If you read the SanDisk press release for the Ultra 128GB microSDXC it said at that time (February 2014) that only Amazon and BestBuy would be carrying the 128GB version so that number may still be valid for BestBuy.
I've done everything I can to help in this thread and the OP seems to be sold on getting something faster than the Ultra 128GB so I'm moving on and you can make whatever recommendations you want without being questioned.
Edit: It looks like the product number you originally gave may be the Amazon identifier for "frustration free packaging" which means they take the bulk version of the card and adapter and put them in their own packing which is supposed to be easier to open and more environmentally friendly. The SanDisk part number for the card itself should be the same. That version is currently not available if you click on the frustration free packing option and the 128GB capacity on the Amazon item listing.

See previous post. I contradicted nothing. You simply weren't aware of the packaging details or that last 4 numbers in the product details. No biggie. That's why I suggested you "slow down". Don't be so quick to put others posts down or prove them wrong somehow. Maybe they aren't wrong at all. Also for the record the packaging isn't tied specifically with Best Buy. If you shop around you will find the FFP packaging other places. I purchased my SD back in February from Amazon. The exact link I shared for others.

I have only used Sandisk 64GB and 128GB. Both formatted FAT32. Both work well.

Using a 64gb Samsung card here. Works great.

I am using 128GB from Sandisk. Can use it out of the box but reformatted with the Tab S just to play safe.

As far as I know, Samsung sd cards I've seen are only up to 64gb and I don't see any 128gb. I suggest you get a SanDisk one and don't go for any class A ones.

Run a h2testw to determine if the card is legit, let me guess you got it off ebay? If so, you can report it counterfeit if the test comes back bad.

Hmm, I've just bought an official Samsung 64gb class 10 and videos don't play well, some mp4s work, MKV dont and AVIs stall.
The same videos on a Kingston 32gb class 4 play flawlessly, all of them.

I think it can handle it because my old phone only supported 32 GB and I inserted my 64 one and after a short time I could usw it normally so it should work too.

Buy in online store, test SD card and return it if it does not work. If you live in EU i think you have 14 days to contact, return and get refund from item.

I tried. It won't work. It only see card and see it is 128 gb but you can't use it. Every time when you going to do something on your SD you will see notification with mistakes

Hello guys, does anyone know if uhs-ii is leveraged by s20 ultra? As far as I know earlier models only benefit from uhs-i and hence no need to get ultra fast card. With 8k and huge files could it be that Samsung bumped the microsd spec?
It seems Samsung does not make itself uhs-ii cards. I looked at AData, ProGrade and Lexar. From tests it seems ADATA is fairly impressive at speeds exceeding 200MB/s for both read and write

Unless some really low data rate is utilized, I cannot see writing capture directly to any removable storage with 8K/24 output. The device will become unresponsive.

The phone supports UFS cards, according to the two Samsung support people I spoke too. So you could aways try those but I believe only size available currently is 256gb and smaller.

Take their words with a pinch of salt. i spoke to one personally and he told me the phone does not support UFS card. The only way to find out now is hope one of the owners can test it and share the result with us.

Thanks! I looked into some V90 MicroSDXC cards, and it appears that Delkin Power is the fastest for write speeds. However, it's pretty expensive, and I ended up getting a 128GB Lexar 1800x card (probably the next fastest one).
Hoping that the Ultra does indeed support UFS! Cheers.

still waiting for confirmation of samsung ufs memory card compatbility with s20 ultra. i would like to get one and test but unfortunately it's only sold in US.

I ordered the 256gb UFS card from Samsung early February but still hadn't been shipped yet but once it comes I'll let you guys know if it works in Samsung ultra (USA version).
Has a 6th March estimate shipping date.

I ordered the 256gb UFS card from Samsung early February but still hadn't been shipped yet but once it comes I'll let you guys know if it works in Samsung ultra (USA version).
Has a 6th March estimate shipping date.

Hi, it seems UFS hasnt the same form factor as MicroSd (+ different pins?) , so how could it work except if you could change the tray with sim+sd and theS20U has been designed for it?

Should be arriving tomorrow or day after, huge delays because of the virus etc. Ended up ordering from Korean seller on eBay as Samsung kept delaying, finger's crossed if it's legit plus actually works ?

Lol ok thanks. Thought you have disappeared after so long.

so I got the card today, and it sits in the micro SD slot just fine, but the phone sadly doesn't detect the card at all. tried all sorts of stuff but it wont detect it.
so that's that!

Just what i was guessing in post#12 , it s not the same pin design and interface , if i read correctly what i saw yesterday ufs cards should be for Note 20 : first Samsung's Smartphone with ufs3.1 Memory
to keep high speed rates with external memory , should be logical to give up SDcards and offer a slot for UFS cards in Galaxy Note 20

I know this isnt about UFS cards. Hopefully someone can answer. What is a decent large microsd for the s20 ultra 400-512gb. I've looked at the SanDisk, Lexpro, Samsung cards. Do any of them really work better than the other.? Is there a sweet spot in price/speed? Thanks

I have multiple cards Sandisk Extreme Pro 400gb, Sandisk extreme 400gb, Samsung Evo Plus 256gb and an older Samsung Evo 64gb however i still need to do some tests, i will post this here.

Lexar Professional 1800x MicroSDXC 128GB UHS-II is fast at a somewhat reasonable price.
U3 V90 cards are the fastest as of now, but some are ridiculously priced.
