Hi guys,
Does anyone know whether there is a ROM available that implements navigation gestures like OxygenOS on the OnePlus? I am not talking about a few apps that allow you to configure gestures and hide the navbar., but a fluid implementation like on the OnePlus with proper animations / transitions
Cheers

You can get the gestures with apps but you can't get the animations since no one has that
Somebody would need to port the animations first which no one has done

I know you posted this a while ago but I'm looking for something like this too. I have tried the gesture apps but it doesn't look complete because the animations don't really match. The only ROM that I've found that has a decent animation is COSP. watch at 35 seconds to see the app close animation https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o9laYATUFYQ

That close animation is also in Lawnchair 2 launcher. you can find it HERE
Honestly I much prefer the gestures on Q to OP, swiping from the edge for back is imo better than swiping up from bottom left or right.

I just tried installing lawn chair but the close animation seems the same as the original animation, is there a setting somewhere?
Edit: Nevermind, realized I had to install the quickswitch magisk module.

Hi all. I tried both Action and Nova launchers and while I like both I'd rather just stick with the stock launcher. One thing I greatly miss though is the gestures, specifically the option to swipe down from anywhere in the home screen to expand quick tiles.
I searched the Play Store and found a couple gesture apps but came up empty. Any help would be appreciated!

Try quicktile someone posted that they made it on here and I saw a lot of good things about it and it's specifically made for the pixel and xl

Thanks. Just downloaded it and it looks like it only supports making new tiles, not a quick gesture to quickly expand quick settings unfortunately.
If you're rooted then give GMD gesture control a try. Fully customizable gesture support. It's one of the primary reasons why I root my devices. I particularly like having custom edge gestures to make one handed operation very easy. I've got several apps and functions mapped to thumb gestures of various shapes/directions from the right edge. Works great.
why not just swipe down from the top with two fingers?
I know its not 'anywhere' on the screen, but its just what you want.

Because I'd rather be able to swipe from anywhere on the screen like you can set up in Nova Launcher.
Hopefully I'm wrong but my gut tells me that in order to get what you want an app would have to intercept touchscreen input while the default home screen is active . . . and that would require root.
LMT looks like the app you're looking for.

Hi to all!
I'm experiencing a really strange thing when try to set an HOME gesture with some of most famous apps for that purpose, like ALL IN ONE GESTURES, EDGE GESTURES and similar.
If I set recent apps and back gesture, they work in every way I set them...but if I try to set ANY KIND of gesture for returning to home... nothing happens.
The command work properly (I feel the haptic vibration, or alinz, that starts when a command is performed), but the gesture won't work in the end...
Anyone noticed that too? Maybe there's something I missed for make them work?
I use swipe up from bottom border and it works for me. I use aio.

I didn't find the cause yet but it is also happening to me. If I reboot the phone the home gesture starts to work fine, it only breaks if I re-enabled the nav bar + disable immersive mode using their quick tiles provided by joneplustools and systemuituner. The easiest solution is to reboot the phone.
Well but are you rooted?

Right now I'm rooted, yes.
Without root the navbar always shows if you swipe from the bottom. You could try a 0px navbar by I think it doesn't work in OOS at the moment.

I already have the 0pt navbar and used successfully on S8 but with OnePlus it just don't works, I suppose because the navbar is named "drawable" in OnePlus internals while in APK it's "navbar", at least I've read it on multiple sources...

Yeah that must be the reason.
If you don't want to root right now your solution is to use a gesture app like edge gestures or swipe navigation because you can use gestures from the right/left edge so you activate the navbar less often.
It's not ideal but is has one advantage; for example when I want to close a game using the back button, the gesture sometimes is not recognized and I have to activate the navbar using the quick setting and that sometimes breaks the home gesture like we discussed yesterday so I have to reboot the phone sometimes. You only have to swipe from the bottom and it's all fine.

Yeah...but the fact that navbar is permanent in home screen no matter if you choose to hide it or not is really disappointing...

According to my experience this kind of problem is most likely caused by a third party app, possibly an xposed module or some half baked apk. Privately exchange a list of your installed apps, compare and concentrate on the more dubious apps you have in common and you may find your culprit there.

Well I don't have any X module since I'm not rooted, apps installed I don't know but I doubt it because are the same apps that was in S8 before, so I don't think that an app can interfere with the 0pt navbar functions...

Yeah that's the main gripe. I suppose you are concerned about burn-in.
I don't know if stock OOS Oreo will fix that. Maybe some Dev can mod the navbar file as I was done with the old filetype as in the Galaxy S8.
I also can tell you that on LiquidRemix 8.0 ( it's on a Telegram group as is in testing stage ) you could hide the navbar completely without root but I understand that you don't want to change the rom and right now is has bugs so is better to stay in Oxygen.
Right now I'm using stock OOS 4.7.4 with root and to update is super easy, just download and flash the full zip, flash your kernel + magisk/superSu after and it's done.
I don't know if you care about Android Pay...

I can tell you that on a fresh installed OOS 4.7.4 without third party apps it doesn't work. The problem is that on Oxygen the navbar has another name in system so that mod doesn't work.
No I don't care about it because there's no need for it now, at least for me.
I've always rooted phones, no problems with that, it's just that I don't feel the need to do it with 5T since is nearly stock and good to run stock "as is"...
I'm curious, for those running Android P. Who's using the gestures vs Navigation bar vs something else like OnePlus gestures/XDA navigation gestures.

Ive been using edge gestures with immersive mode since last year and love it. I tried the Android p gestures and couldn't stand it.
I don't have Android P yet but when I get it I will be turning the gestures off. I hate gesture based navigation. Not intuitive at all.
Been using gestures daily since DP3. It was really laggy and stuttered with DP2.

Yeah, they work fine now on the latest beta. No issues like before. The only big problem I have with them is they still take up the same amount of screen space. Wish they could figure that out. And ditch the back button arrow in favor of a left swipe of the pill.
Android P gestures and I like it, but I wish there would be a built-in "back" gesture
I use xposed edge pro. It can do just much more than the other options.
Inonow you are asking about android P, but this will likely be what I use when xposed is updated to P. And this is also the reason I will in all likely hood stay on oreo until xposed has been updated.

I'm using 'OnePlus gestures'* (along with 'hide nav bar') which has this. The app is working flawlessly for me, and is what the Android P gesture UI should have been.
I'm helped by the fact that I also use a OnePlus 5t, so I keep trying to use those gestures on my Pixel anyway!
*The app is not free, but it's one of the best apps I've bought.
I tried the navigation gestures app from xda and has many more ways to customize the gestures, but ultimately, navigating using just the bottom edge of the screen is not comfortable and much slower than on screen buttons. IMO, Gestures should be triggered from anywhere on the screen, but still won't be as fast
With the Pixel 3 and 3 XL forcing gesture navigation will regular button be available when using an alternate launcher like Nova?

I saw a video yesterday on YouTube that showed the option to revert back to the old button layout instead of using gestures. It was on a beta version of Pie but it’s very possible that they kept it in the final release.
Here’s a link to instructions to enable gestures if your on a phone such as the pixel 2 that received the Pie update. I assume turning the gestures off would work the same way.
https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.digitaltrends.com/mobile/how-to-use-android-9-pie-gesture-navigation/amp/
I believe there are posts about gestures being the only form of navigation
I'm on Pie with my Pixel XL and can turn the gesture navigation on or off. I believe the Pixel 3 and 3 XL are forced to use gesture navigation and it can't be turned off.

I was the same initially, but I've been using the gesture nav on pie for a few months now and I can't go back. It's way better. Even used to the asymmetrical back button. Really wish I could decrease the height of it though.

I don't mind using the nav bar but I just hope Nova Launcher or a custom ROM allows the switching of the back button to the right side of the home button.
just downloaded Hyperion Launcher on my 2xl.
It's interesting as it has features from several different launchers, including nova.
It's brand new and is a little buggy (very little so far) but I think I'm going to play with it for a day or 2.
I didn't purchase the pro version, which is expensive (sort of) at 3.99, but I might if it continues to interest me tomorrow.
As a previous Nova Launcher user for for a few years now, do you guys recommend I get used to Google's default launcher before using Nova again?

I personally don't like the lack of options with the stock launcher. With my OG Pixel XL I recently turned on the gesture navigation and have been getting used to it while still using Nova Launcher.

If I understand you correctly, this is currently possible without root using custom navigation bar. Latest Pie, assume it should work on 3 XL as well, or at the least should be updated to do so shortly, the dev is excellent with updates.

I kinda prefer the OnePlus gestures because you don't have to give up any space at all for navigation. It's ironic to me that all this effort is being expended on getting a little notched screen real estate when doing away with the nav bar area gives you the same amount of usable screen real estate without a notch covering a large chunk of what you just gained. I mean if you're going to have the horrid notch in the name of more screen real estate why not also grab the wasted space at the bottom of the screen while you're at it?

At a guess I'd say there are some design restraints that affect all Android devices. THAT may be one of them. Specifically, constraints to maintain interoperability between independent developers apps running on Android. Start messing with the navigation menu too much, there's no telling what you are going to break.
Of course, it being Google, maybe they have some idea of what they are going to break and chose not to maketh with the breaking...
Possible, I don't know enough about it to poke at the nuts and bolts of it. With OnePlus you can have it either way at that tap of a button, maybe it was a toggle? My understanding was you could do this with Pie also and just go back to the nav bar if you wanted up until this device. With OnePlus it didn't in any way affect the phone or apps that I have except the launcher. I've got the pay Action and Nova and both of those have gestures you can use which can conflict with the nav gestures. Action in fact put out a beta update that made it so a swipe up from the bottom opened the app drawer and that couldn't be changed which completely broke the OnePlus gestures which also swipe up from the bottom. Cred to those guys, I sent an email about it and it was fixed within a few days so that you could turn that off. Not sure how many sent such an email but it was nice to see the quick response regardless. I guess where I'm going is I can see how it could conflict with something, but it shouldn't be too much from what I've seen; nothing a developer worth his salt wouldn't sort out quickly.
Using stock launcher currently, as swipe right isn't working for me using Nova. Hoping this will be fixed soon.

Probably closest thing you'll get with stock is to enable the gesture to swipe down on the fingerprint scanner.
Might have to look to rooting to do it on screen.

Lawnchair launcher is probably the closest thing to stock that you'll gain this functionality with. Plus, it offers to disable the top shadow, which causes black/dark wallpapers to produce gray/distorted lines around the status bar on the stock launcher (and you can't disable it).
Before anyone tells me my device is defective, please try it out for yourself. Just apply the pitch black or gray wallpaper from the wallpaper picker and turn your brightness up. You'll see it.
