Hi. BL unlocked and rooted VZ Pixel XL. After root I noticed that I could no longer attach a pic or media to a message using VZ messenger. No matter what I choose I get an error message saying "Message + keeps stopping". Odd thing is that if I select the pic in Google photos and use share, then select VZ messenger I can attach and send the pic. I tried attaching a photo using the stock messenger and have no problems. Anyone else experiencing this?

I have the same issue...can receive mms and group texts just not send them... unlocked and rooted on a Verizon Pixel XL...must be something with root...cuz it worked before that...can anyone else confirm with the OP and myself if they have any mms issues after root on Verizon?
OP did mms work before rooted? I tried Verizon messages but it force closes on me...and Textra and Google messages just hangs for until I get a send failed notification.
I chatted with Verizon they have no clue what is causing it...has to be the root I'm thinking. Never had this issue before on any other device I have had...
Edit: I read your post wrong seems we have different issues . I can attach pics just they never send. Weird how I can receive then just not reply to a group message at all...?
This is a serious question because I'm curious... Why use Verizon messages?

I hate the app visual but in terms of functions, it's the best and most complete. Send/receive msgs from tablets and computer is huge, honestly it's the one thing I don't understand why Android still doesn't natively do.

You need to use Verizon's messaging app. Verizon has an app for computers and tablets as well. I also use it on my iPad Pro. Works great.
If you're like me, who hates the visual of Verizon's app, you can use their app to set up on other devices, once it's all setup you can go back to Google's Stock app and you still get your texts on every device

Awesome tip, thank you! I hate the look of VZW's app and never use it, so this sounds like a good solution.
I concur, I abhor the UI, but find it tolerable with a lot of customization. I use it because it is amazingly feature rich. The ability to filter conversations by media, links etc is huge for me. The Glympse integration and auto emojis, as well as embedded image search for quick gifs are things I use every day. The picture editor is ungainly, but also very functional. Scheduled messages, auto restore for texts, messaging features like live typing notification, etc.
Atheistic wise, I prefer Textra, but I always find myself wandering back to message+ simply for the features. Again, lots of customization required to be tolerable. Thankfully it allows for that.
Coming from a note4, the last thing I would like to do is transfer my MMS (already did SMS) to my new phone.
Note4 is running stock, ATT variant, so no root capabilities.

Titanium Backup can do it, even without root (one of the few things it doesn't need root for).
Also just FYI during the setup process for your pixel 2 xl, it will prompt you to connect your old phone using the included USB to USB-C adapter to transfer apps/music/photos, call log and messages as well. Coming from a Galaxy S7 Edge, it was able to transfer everything for me *except* for messages, so I ended up using Titanium Backup for that part.
I'm use the pro version of this, but I think the free version would be fine. You just lose the ability to back up to and restore from Google Drive with the free version

I've used tibu for years exclusively....but restoring sms/mms is painfully slow, especially with a lot of messages.... Sms backup and restore is so much faster and easier to use that I'm definitely making a permanent switch for texts
SMS Backup to my Google drive worked great for me this time around!
The phone is supposed to do it automatically if you use Android messages. Unfortunately there can be long periods of time the phone will go without backing up.

How do you force a backup of Google SMS messages? And not one message was restored for me after the device setup...
I use this -> https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.zegoggles.smssync&hl=en
It backs up SMS and MMS to my Gmail account (so I can read/search via gmail) under an SMS label... But it can only restore SMS, not MMS. To view MMS on a new phone, I have to go into Gmail.

+1 for the app. Works great, have been using it from a long time.
Thanks all, I ended up using SMS backup and restore. Worked perfectly..
I tried to use the built in transfer when setting up the phone. I plugged in the C to A adapter and tried 8 different cables I have laying around, most of them KNOWN GOOD DATA cables and the setup process kept telling me that it couldn't connect and to try a different cables.
Other than the transfer tool not working at all for me, everything else seems to be fine.
Thanks again for the recommendations.
I'm running into the same issue but the problem is I use Textra. So its database is larger than the phone's sms/mms storage database (2gb vs 7gb). It seems like a number of the backup apps only look at the phone database and not the Textra,my default texting app (which makes sense). I tried doing an app-specific adb backup and restore going from my LG G3 to my 2 XL (adb backup com.textra and adb restore backup.ab). However, even when I left the app running overnight, it didn't seem to work. Am I missing something in going from Marshmallow to Oreo? USB debugging is turned on (on both phones), verifying apps via USB is turned off on the Pixel... I may try this later today to see my luck in moving all my messages over to my new phone.

I may be thinking of a similarly named app, but it doesn't say it in the review, which would be helpful.
I was using Easy Backup, but started getting errors. I didn't realize (and it wasn't clear) that the SD card was full. I tried looking into it to find the app and even the developer was pulled from the Play store. It seems the app (EB) may have some nasty ad stuff in it, so I am looking into alternatives. I will definitely give this one a try, though I wish it had Box integration as that's where I've been putting my backups.

I need to store and save mms photos from text messages from my LG android phone to my computer. Is there an app I need to install first or do I connect my phone to my laptop with a cable to do this? These are really important photos that came from someone and need to be saved. Thanks for the help.
Hey all,
Got the Pixel 2 XL and love it so far. Came from an iPhone 7 Plus, and really miss iMessage, but am learning to deal with it.
One feature that I've been trying to figure out how to do is have it so I can send text messages from my laptop. I remember back when I had my Galaxy Nexus I used to be able to use an app to mimic essentially how iMessage allows me to text people from my phone or my mac. Looking for something like that again.
I've tried researching but all I can find are thread's / articles from a couple years ago about apps that seem pretty dated. I tried using MightySMS, but after a certain amount of messages per month it requires a subscription.
Personally, I would have loved if Hangouts still allowed SMS, and that would've been the perfect solution.
Any suggestions?
I'm truly sorry if this subject has been beat to a pulp, as I imagine it probably has. I tried researching beforehand, and as mentioned, everything I found was pretty old.
I recommend and use Pushbullet as my daily driver. It is very light with Windows and Web integration. There is not a native app for MacOS but you can use Noti to sync to desktop. I personally just use the web version with desktop notifications on on any platform. If you have Verizon then there is Verizon Messages which is very robust and allows for syncing to iOS. Also MightyText and AirDroid but they are extremely bulky.
I used to use Airdroid quite a lot, and it was certainly a good program that did what it advertised. The only reason I stopped using it is because most people I communicate with use Whatsapp, and Whatsapp web is better than any SMS app on a computer.
Hangouts still does text messaging (SMS) or at least it did a few months ago when I used it last. Install it if it's not there then click on SMS in settings to enable.

I'm in full agreement on WhatsApp. Unfortunately in my experience (at least in my friends/family circle) it's tough for me to convince iPhone users to switch over to using WhatsApp.

As far as I've researched it only supports SMS now if you have your number ported to Google Voice or use Project Fi. Otherwise you cannot.
You are correct, Hangouts is not able to use your cell carrier number.

I use Join. It does clipboard sharing, notifications, SMS, and more. Has a PC app and chrome extension which should work on mac? It's $5 after a month free. Well worth it. I use it constantly both for texting and to send files or share a webpage from my phone to pc or vice versa. Give it a look

Yeah I guess that's how it works. I must be used to it because I had to test it. It does seem to stay, I think, if you click on the extension and pop out join in a new window. But if you just reply to a text and don't already have it popped out in a new window it will disappear. There's pretty good support here if you want to ask http://forum.joaoapps.com/index.php?forums/join/
I like Join .. BUT .. Google Drive is blocked at work and since this is where it stores files/messages .. I can't use it. I use MySMS to send and receive texts but I might check out MightyText since it had some positive feedback.
I like Pulse.
It lets you sync messaging between multiple devices and the web as long as the primary phone is left on and has service. You can even text from a second phone using it. That's useful if you have a data only sim in a phone or a tablet.
In my experience the developer can be a bit hostile to bug reports when he isn't sure how to fix it or if you make a suggestion that doesn't align with his vision, but the app is well done.
I downloaded Pulse a few days ago it it seems to work well so far. I also really like the look of it.
I have a Pixel 2 XL with Android 8.1. I recently moved to Join from Pushbullet because messages sent from the PC were not syncing with my phone text app (Android Messages.) But the same thing is happening with Join in that I'll send a message via the Chrome Extension and the other person gets it but on my phone, I never see what I sent via Join. I'm guessing this might be either an Android Messages problem, 8.1 problem or a combo of both.
Yesterday, I got one to sync and that was it. If it matters, it was a single line message. But then tried a one word reply to someone and it didn't sync.
And just now, I sent a new message (started as a new message in Join in Chome to my nieces). One went through and synced to my phone but the other didn't.
I'm hoping it is something I just need to check and change.
This may not be a show stopper to some but if this is an 8.1 thing, I may need to go back to my Note 8. Hate to do that because I'm really enjoying my Pixel 2 XL and 8.1
Any suggestions?

I use Mighty Text and it works just fine. I send SMS/MMS all the time (several times per day) and have not had a problem with it on 8.0 or 8.1. This is split between using both Firefox and Chrome. I can see text/pics sent on my Messages app on the phone. What carrier are you with? I'm on AT&T.
I'm on Verizon. I thought about firing up my Note 8 to see if problem is there too. Only had this problem on 8.1

This is one of the reasons I left Pushbullet and tried Join. But sadly, the problem still existed on the Pixel XL 2. Pushbullet support didn't ever respond and Join Support said it might be a problem with Android Messages. Beyond removing updates on Android Messages or trying a factory reset on my Pixel 2 XL, I've been at a loss to what to do. I'd try Pulse but I think the same problem may exist.

Maybe an APN issue? Try comparing your APN with another Verizon user. FDR seems a bit harsh for this, but I think it is safe to rule out an issue with 8.1 or Messages because it is working for just about everyone else.

I meant the settings within the APN, particularly the MMS. You'll need to compare with another Verizon user and what is published online. If there is more than one (I have 3) try using a different one. Do you have another phone on your plan? Check that one.
Considering the other party is receiving the messages, it sounds more like a display issue with Messages to me. Join/Pushbullet/etc. don't actually send the messages, they just relay them to your phone and your phone sends them. So they must be making it to your phone if the other party is getting them.

Rather than paying monthly for Pushbullet Pro, I paid the one time fee for Join, so I haven't used Pushbullet for a while. I haven't used all of the features of Join yet, but it looks like it can do a lot more than Pushbullet and it's cheaper.
Plus another factor that may affect my experience vs yours is:
I'm mainly using Pushbullet to see texts people send me on my other phone numbers, on a different phone..I rarely use the desktop interface (though I do have it active when I am on my laptop)
So maybe that's why my experience is different from yours
I also noticed that texts sent to short codes that have 5 digits, don't work on Android messages well...I noticed that the Text gets sent, and the service responds, but the message doesn't come through on Android messages... Only on another text app.(ex: your bank)
My point is that Android messages has issues on 8.1 that it didn't on earlier versions and I'm wondering if that's affecting services like Pushbullet in weird ways.
Sorry for the off topic.. But it's sort of related

I mentioned earlier that Mighty Text has never had an issue with Messages. All text and pictures sent from the PC are captured in Messages with no missing/dropped/failed messages. Free version has a 200 message limit that I have only hit once. I use it on my Wi-Fi tablet as well.
I had some weird issues with Join and Android Messages on my 2XL. Sprint Network. Sometimes received messages would show in join but not in messages and other times sent items through join weren't showing in messages. It was sporadic and not consistent. Eventually I turned Android Messages off from battery saving (doze) and I haven't had a problem since.
Hey all, I'm very new to this, so please be nice.
I recently decided to break up with Apple, and I bought the LG WIng. Using Google Drive, I've been able to move contacts, pictures, etc. from my iPhone X to my new LG Wing. The problem I'm having is that I cannot transfer message history.
To add a lyaer of complexity, I do not have a computer. There are instruction on how to transfer messages using computer software, even iTunes, but I have access to none of this.
I read about an app called LG Mobile Switch, which can supposedly transfer messages with a cable. However, this app does not seem to be available in Apple's App Store.
Curious to know if anyone else has had this problem and what they did to overcome it.
Thanks
cmiles_abcd
Not sure from an iPhone. I just used SMS backup but I was going from Android to Android. And it worked just fine.

Sorry for the delayed reply. To transfer text messages from iPhone X to LG wing, maybe you can try phone transfer tool like Coolmuster Mobile Transfer, MobileTrans, Easeus Mobimover, etc. Such tool can help us transfer text messages and other data like contacts, books(pdf&epub),music, videos, photos from iPhone to Android phone. Usually, they are not free. You need to pay for the full version. About the details, please search online. Hope this will be your help.
