[Discussion] Verizon Connectivity Issues on Custom ROMS Workarounds - LG V30 Guides, News, & Discussion

I'd love to settle once and for all the issues with Verizon modems or whatever on custom ROMS, the issue being that you MUST place a phone call after reboots and periodical hibernation to receive texts, voicemail and MMS.
I don't know squat about editing ROMs or the like, but I wish I did. I'm here to try to establish a collaborative effort to fix this issue. I really love my LGV30, and I purchased it because I could root it. Custom ROMs are great, but to be honest it can be risky to not receive messages.

Have you tried running stock lg? In my experience they have less issues than custom roms.
Also now that your phone has an unlocked bootloader, you may be able to flash your phone back to verizon vs996 and still retain root and unlocked bootloader.
Does the stock us998 firmware cover all of the bands for verizon?
Did you try and change the bearer from global to cdma/lte?

I used stock for a spell. Things worked rather well. Tried switching network type to no avail.

There is a stock vs996 rom that you can flash with twrp and root/keep unlocked bootloader.
May be worth looking into.

I tried this. The overall objective of the thread is to not keep root on stock, but to provide or find ways to have a reliable Verizon network on a custom ROM

A notable piece of evidence is that DOTOS works fine, at least it has for me. @Stuckurface on page 34 of the LOS 8.1 rom page seemed to have a good lead.
I don't know how to attack this problem, but I can follow instructions if a dev would like me to try anything or provide information...

Safe ROMs for unlocked boot loader?

I understand there are no safe MM ROMs once the boot loader is unlocked.
Other than that, can we install any of the ROMs for DE devices without worry?

"Safe ROM?" I'm not sure I follow your question.
I would not take the recently released Marshmallow OTA. It will relock your bootloader. And while you might be able to roll back to 5.1.1 and re-root, for me it's simply not worth the hassle. The .tar files developers need to make a Marshmallow ROM for our Verizon phones should be out any day. Give the wizards a week or so after that to whip up their magic. That's one option.
Another option would be to amble on over to the generic Note 4 forum, where there is a healthier ROM development environment. Many of these ROMs will work with your 5.1.1 bootloader and modem. The basic drill for making one of these ROMs work is to ignore the directions for flashing updated bootloaders and modems, flash the basic ROM and any fixes, then apply one of louforgiveno's data fixes. Stick with ROMs developed for N910F/G models.
My personal Marshmallow favorite... it's the only ROM I've tried other than CM13... is Dr. Ketan's. It has elements of both the Note 5 and S7. Does it have all of the newest goodies of the OTA such as Wifi calling? Nah. Since I don't really need it, I don't miss it. But everything I need for it to work does. Your mileage may vary.
Happy ROMing!
If your question is "can I install any of the ROMs meant for a DE on my retail Note 4" the answer is yes. I've tried PaulPizz, CM13, Kyubi, and Dr. Ketan and got them all to work on my phone. You just need to make sure you download all of the proper files and thank the devs. If any MM ROMs do come they will be listed in the "Android Development Section" along with all of the other ROMs that work on this device (retail or DE).
I'm pretty sure what the OP means is that for all those like me who have the Retail SM-N910V, it would be nice to compile a list of all working ROMs for our phones and what methods of installation were used. You have your ROMs that were installed via Odin and ROMs that were installed via TWRP. I'm not sure what the difference is, other than with TWRP you can install more than one ROM, right? Additionally, we want to make sure we're all using the correct files, that is, at least avoid the ones from Verizon that will probably re-lock our phones.

Follow the link to the generic Note 4 forum. Go to the Snapdragon subforum. Pick a ROM. Do not flash the bootloader or modem if the instructions say to. Just flash the ROM and any fixes. Go to louforgiveno's thread with the data fixes. Pick the appropriate fix and flash. The Nameless ROM at quick glance looks like a fairly unmodified Marshmallow TouchWiz ROM. Most of the others are ports, mostly Note 5 and S7 marriages.

If you dabble in this ROM flashing game long enough, you'll find that often not everything works as it should. Flashing doesn't go as smoothly as we'd like, and sometimes some of the features don't work properly or at all. Forced closes and random reboots are also part of the frustrations.
It all works out to a risk/benefit analysis. Will I be happier with my phone being able to customize it further? Will the new features gained outweigh the features lost? On the Dr Ketan's ROM that I'm using, the fingerprint sensor doesn't work properly. I don't miss it since I wasn't happy with the way it worked originally. I've had his ROM on my phone for over a week with the only hiccups being self induced. Recovering my backup makes everything all new and shiny again.

Which version did you flash for Dr. Ketan rom? I am on cm 13 now would like to try dr. ketan, i am a little bit unsure on the exact directions for the 910v from what I have read though as long as don't flash any bootloader files and apply the data fix I should be fine I can always flash back. Question is do i use F or G download for the rom, and what specific order do i have to flash the rom, h-vitamin, and data fix? any help would be appreciated.

So long as you're still on the 5.1.1 bootloader, you can use any version of Dr Ketan's ROMs. I was using the M5 version. I haven't tried this ROM or any of the other Snapdragon variants since I upgraded to the 6.0.1 bootloader. From what I've read people have not been able to get data and wifi to work.
The drill to install Dr Ketan's ROMs is to backup your working setup using recovery, wipe Dalvik/ART, cache, system, and data, flash the ROM, the M5 fix, boot into the ROM but don't sign in to Google or Samsung. Go back to recovery and flash louforgiveno's M3 data fix. (I haven't checked into his thread lately and he may have a fix for M5. Dr Ketan rolled back his base which is why the M4 fix doesn't work.) Boot into the ROM, sign in to Google/Samsung as needed and profit.
Note: I didn't see any provision for HD/wifi calling in Dr Ketan's ROM which seems to be important to a lot of people. I also haven't been to the thread in about a week to see if there's a M6.

Hope you can work it out. I tried every data fix and kernel in every conceivable combination, and nothing worked. I asked louforgiveno if he'd look into it, and he responded he'd have to swap in all the 6.0 stuff into a new data fix for us, so I hope that meant yes! He has been so helpful to all the different note 4 variants.

The dr. ketan's is awesome and would love to use as my daily driver. On a side note I have tried a couple and keep coming back to Paulpizz with xposed, smooth, fast, reliable a great rom. I am going to keep working on it and will update with any progress or workarounds.

[All working except call audio and BT] [Nougat] [MM and LP bootloader] Desolation ROM

Hello XDA, I have been working on an Aosp-ish nougat rom for our beloved trltetmo. It has nearly no features yet, since it's an AOSP ROM. I'm a Nexus dev, and just recently started working on the trltetmo because I bought one. I had a marshmallow rom and kernel(but tend not to release stuff to anyone to avoid drama and the eta requests).
Downloads: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?a=show&w=files&flid=111459
I have uploaded my work to GitHub: http://github.com/TrlteNougat
For now until I get my gpu back, you have to flash this kernel for MM bootloader support: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=529152257862667083
Known issues:
- Camera is wonky. It's going to be difficult to fix
- The phone acts like it's a dual sim phone, no usability is sacrificed, it just shows two APN settings and the carrier on Dialer
Features:
None yet, it's AOSPish
What is being worked on:
Bluetooth
Call audio (mixer_path issues)
The kernel source is up: https://github.com/TrlteNougat/kernel_samsung_trlte/commits/n7.0
Manifest located here: https://github.com/TrlteNougat/manifest
Nice! Subscribed.
Test build
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24723757092306996
This one doesn't reboot randomly. Still has ril and Bluetooth errors. Sound doesn't work. Camera does.
I m not dev. But great to see work on 7 ...cheers to all devs...hoping for a stable one soon thx again
I'm keeping my eye on this thank you
Sent from my SM-N910T using Tapatalk
Ril is now partially working. I can send and receive texts. Calls cause a soft reboot, but shouldn't be hard to fix. Still no data connection yet, but that'll be fixed soon enough. Wifi connects but doesn't access internet for some reason. I haven't looked into that any.
Because why not
improper bootloader and in some cases modem can cause Wi-Fi to behave similar to how you have described. I'm not a TMO user but I think there should be several versions newer than OK2
if you have any desire to return to 5.1.1 or keep the option open to do it in the future, you may want to steer clear of the newest 2 or so bootloaders as they may prohibit further downgrading. if TMO is anything like Sprint, anything PE2 and older should still permit downgrades. newer versions I have not tested or seen any info on the topic.
[QRCODE][/QRCODE]ok I did a quick check and you are in fact on a 5.1.1 modem. I don't know if you've updated your bootloader but I get the feeling you would know if you have or not lol
all TMO MM firmware is newer than the Sprint firmwares (PB5, PC1, PD1, PE1, PE2) that I know to not prohibit downgrades, so you're on your own there.
if you believe the test builds to be compatible with the Sprint model, I'd be happy to help test as time allows for it

910T can be downgradable to DOK2 but not below that (unless you use work around and flash 910T2 firmware, which will allow you to go to 4.4.4 BL , and still can come back to latest) but thats a different story, regardless of that , however , you can anytime switch among DOK2 to PE3 to PG2 in any order. I think android N for 910T should be tested on EPG2 and not on DOK2 , atleast should give it a try on EPG2. I think the dev @USA-RedDragon , already must have tried all bootloaders and basebands , i m just replying to above posts.

I tried EPE3 on mm but got too frustrated with the issues. So I've been weary to try it again. But you do have a point that I should try with newer bl/modem combos. I've got a mm rom compatible with epe3, so I might as well flash that. The Odin files are on my desktop staring me down
Side note, the logs point to something bring wrong wkth the code and not a bl/modem -> rom compatibility. But I could be wrong. Never hurts to try

to make it easier ,why dont you just flash EPG2 BL and CP using odin (as opposed to entire MM rom) .and see if it fixes any of the issues with current N build.

About to recieve a OnePlus 3. Anything I should need to know?

I bought this device today.
I got it because I wanted to get into custom ROMs/Root.
Is there anything I need to know about this phone that will be helpful? Tips & Tricks?
Also I hear talk of Lineage OS vs Oxygen. Which is better and why? (Please don't be LINEAGE OF COURSE FTW, I want reasons. Couldn't find that anywhere)
Should I chose Oxygen beta 8.0, or the Lineage beta for 8.0?
Coming from an LG V10 (AT&T) where I couldn't modify it for ****, and broke after a little over a year (LG Bootloop issue)

The ROM you want to use can only be your decision based on what features you want for example if you want loads of tweaking features then I'd suggest resurrection remix and for the very latest android version then oxygen OS or lineage 8.0 both are good in their own ways you'd have to check the description to see which suits your needs , one big tip I can give you though is to always use the latest blu_spark recovery because its been modified to support a variety of ROMs and if your a flashaholic like me then always perform a nandroid backup before switching ROMs its simple advice but can save you loads of time if you don't like the ROM you've chosen and obviously before trying to unlock the bootloader via adb then enable developer options and enable OEM unlocking (some people forget) good luck and enjoy this wicked phone...

Xceeder was talking about recovery, not kernel. Since this phone is new for you, certain idiosyncrasies of this phone must be learnt. One of them is the recovery. Ofcourse official TWRP is there but it will not work with many custom ROMs. One of the best recoveries for this phone is made by bluspark who is well-known for his kernels. It is that recovery which Xceeder was talking about. I also use the same.
As regards ROMs, apart from what Xceeder stated, if you are satisfied with a smooth and battery friendly ROM, I can recommend VertexOS. But it will not have any bells or whistles. Another battery friendly and smooth ROM with some tweaks built-in is PureFusion. Both these I have used. But if you need many tweaks, go with Xceeder's recommendations. As he said, ROMs are a personal choice and what I like, you may not. So read about a few, flash a few and finalise.
Advance wishes for a happy experience.

US Cellular MM root projects?

I realize that the USC version really isn't in anyone's Todo list, but was wondering if anyone has been making any effort to find a workaround for either an unofficial bootloader unlock or prerooted system image that would work in the us991 variant? Best outcome would be an unlock allowing TWRP and custom ROM use, or at least root and Xposed usage on the stock MM. Any responses would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Best outcome would be an unlock allowing TWRP and custom ROM use, or at least root and Xposed usage on the stock MM. Any responses would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I surely hope so..I love my g4. I brought it over to TMO, and have no issues other than having to buy a new battery as original was falling after almost 4 years of service. I've honestly not feeling the need for a new phone, it's fast has decent storage, a gorgeous screen and the design makes it easy to hold even with it's screen size. My only worry is I've been following his posts and they are all focused on the other unlockable versions with nary a mention of my poor us991 lol

OP8 Verizon Custom ROM Support

Hey all! I saw it mentioned in a few threads and figured this would be the right place. For all those Verizon users, post your experience with A11 ROMs here. Which ones have you tried? Which work, and which don't? Hopefully we can find a common thread and get more support for Verizon!

I'm also on Verizon with the op8 pro. Not a great experience compared to my wife's galaxy s20 plus. Thanks for trying to pull some of us together. Seems like the EU version gets most of the active support at the moment. Maybe we can get the IN2025 handset done love.
Have been using verizon for about 5 months beside atnt with no issues no 5g in my area yet but haven't had any issues with either

Tried Lineage, Crdroid. Neither sees SIM card and settings for that greyed out. I assume is the same for PE and AICP. Only one that works is Paranoid Android but it really doesn't have any features to make it more attractive than stock OOS. Seems Verizon users are SOL when it comes to custom Roms. At least for now.

How are you getting past the error on Pa that rebooting to recovery to factory reset over and over again?. I've heard Pa has data but when I flash it continually loops back into recovery trying to factory reset. And I'm performing factory reset with op8 stock recovery prior to flashing. But still saw message if you have sim insert now at set-up. So I figured it didn't have data as well. The problem is we have single sim ssss. And none of these custom builds have our specific vendor blobs. So until someone steps up and builds for us specifically . Nothing is going to get data. I'm working with maintainer of Pixel experience and Cr-droid. But seems to be a tough process for them. Here's to developing some patience and being on stock. I've tried flashing global as well and no data. However I could on A10. If anyone on the Verizon op8 variant updated ota to A11 and has flashed something they get data/internet signal on,I'd love to know.

Well I haven't done anything with PA since beta 2. If I recall it was a Pita to install at the time but I was able to twice with Verizon working. Don't know about now. When I did flash it I asked the Dev what he did to make Verizon work on that ROM but all he said was "nothing special".

I remember seeing your post now asking him. Early on. Did you fastboot update pa.zip or sideload? And it's already up to beta 5

I honestly can't remember. I think I sideloaded it because I couldn't make fastboot update work. But again I really can't remember. I haven't tried any past beta 2 because of the trouble to flash it (myself and others) and I honestly didn't see how it was any better than stock. Just me though. Does it have a lot more features now?

Everyone in the threads saying the most recent ones are very nice. I dunno though. Just trying to get with devs and get us some stuff to flash. But you for sure had data/signal. Could make calls, text ,jump on internet and wasn't off of wifi?
wrong thread

Oh yeah. It worked at least to make and receive calls. Don't remember about texts. I didn't use it more than a couple of hours because I wasn't impressed.

Guess my next question is how did you possibly get A11 on both slots? I ran logcat through download trying to snag url or dl link for rom and nothing. Been reading through Pa thread. That's how you got it working. I still have A10 on slot_a.
Just installed PA beta 6. Got oos11 on both slots with oxygen updater. Tried fastboot update but that produced error messages. Unzipped PA files and manually flashed them. Booted up fine. Got Verizon calls and text working (had to change APN fron VZWINTERNET to one of the others--can't remember which. I could NOT get fingerprint to work but face recognition worked. Again the was such a plain vanilla ROM and I really couldn't see any advantage to using it so went back to stock.
Haven't got Verizon myself as I'm in the UK. But the issues I've seen from that network are crazy.
Are you all planning to stay with Verizon? Personally I'd leave them, it's a terrible thing to have to deal with on any phone let alone one that costs so much...
I wouldn't commit to another contract with them for any reason until that limitation is gone.

As of now yes. Luk was in device for hours last night on ubunutu and has merged changes on gerrit. So we should get data on Verizon from here on out on anything built from Lineage !! And already have flashed Chandras test builds on pixel experience and have data. Everything working

Yes I agree. That's why Luk agreed to make patches for gerrit. Super cool. Now we all get to flash nice custom roms. Seems as if we follow one another around threads as well. He he. I truly love this device. With msm in our back pockets it's amazing.
