android.process.media draining battery - Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro Questions & Answers

Since the update to MIUI 10 I have a problem with android.process.media draining the battery in the background. Today it used over 30% of my battery. It happens every couple of days and I think that clearing the cache and data for Downloads and Media Storage makes it temporarily go away, but it always comes back.
Has anyone else experienced this problem and found a solution? I have seen some related posts that suggest a corrupt SD card but I do not have an SD card in the phone.
Thanks!

Do you have some files/folders with non-ASCII or non-UTF-8 names? If yes, can you try to rename those or move out to another storage?
Try also to move out all your media files to somewhere else, to test if the problem occur on some media files.
Do you use custom ringtones/notifications sound? If yes, try also to use the default one.

I've removed all my pictures and videos and ran the deep clean feature of the built in cleaner app. After that the Media process went crazy once draining battery but I've had a couple of days with no problems. I use the new nature sounds for notification.
I will monitor and if it continues to happen I might be forced to try a factory reset since I can't seem to find the cause.
Thanks!

[Q] "Media" draining battery?

All day today, my battery has been dropping 4 times as much as normal. Battery usage shows "Media" as the #1 battery use. I've rebooted twice today and it hasn't stopped. I'm not sure what "Media" covers, but I haven't used the web, youtube, music or any other form of media all day. Just two phonecalls and some text messages. Does anyone have any idea what this could be and how to stop it?

Look at the bottom of the picture it looks like maybe something downloading?? I would go download app and see if something is there downloading and stop it . Maybe clear download manager cache also along with downloads cache ( I'm taking wild guess here )

In past few days this message appears several times a day when i wake up the phone from sleep/standby. It goes away after 2 seconds and i do have access to the card as usual. Sometimes the message does not appear but the SD Card icon appears/flashes in the top left corner of the screen then goes away. Again access to card is OK. First i thought some apps may have caused this so i did a hard reset and just tried the card from factory state...still the same. It seems this has started after a recent update that brought the multi window function. This issue was not present prior to the update. I've also tested the card in a reader on my computer and all is working fine. So, it appears the card is not faulty and possibly there is a bug in the recent update? Or a hardware problem? The phone has not been rooted at all.
Anybody having this issue? Any ideas what might be causing it?
Thx!

[Solved - Found Problem] Camera Awesome not so awesome?

Looks like a good app... but when I tried to use it I get the message at the bottom of the screen:
Insert an SD card before using the camera.
I have an SD card and the stock camera is putting its images there. I have tried switching the settings to internal to external and back and I get the same error. It obviously won't let me take a picture because it thinks there is no memory??
I have also cleared the cache, app data with the same results.
Anyone else have this problem?
App: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.smugmug.android.cameraawesome
Whats interesting is that it says it is designed to work with the Note 3.
I am stock rooted.

WorksForMe. Stock rooted as well. external 64GB SD is exFAT this time vs FAT32, if it matters.
Same setting, same issue, strange.
Fixed or rather, cause found which fixed it.
This was a Me problem.
So... while looking a new app that I had loaded it was having issues accessing the Internet... found that it was being blocked by Xprivacy.... hmmmm wonder if this is affecting the Camera Awesome app.... Quick check and yep... For some reason storage was blocked.
I thought I had looked for that before, but after correcting that, the camera works fine. Exploring what it can do now.

OnePlus 5T font rendering issue after root

After rooting successfully I have found a weird glitch with the fonts.
This happens only in google apps, like Google Play Movies, Google Assistant and so on, it also happens in the permission warnings, ( like permission to access storage) but not on the whole warning, just the grant or refuse buttons. I have tried messing around to fix it but I cannot find any info about this problem. I have no idea what caused it or how to fix it, but it is very annoying.

Couldn't figure out what was causing it so I just took it as corrupted files and reset the phone. I used Titanium Backup to back up the whole thing and noticed the name of the apps on the list also had the weird characters, so I didn't back those up. After a reset it has been working fine with root, even after multiple Magisk updates.
i had the same problem, check if you have set the language English (XA) or something similar and add instead English US / UK.

[5.1.3] AndroidOS constantly downloading data in the background causing battery drain

My OnePlus 5T running the latest Oxygen OS 5.1.3 started having a battery drain issue since yesterday. Battery life went from almost 2 days to around 4-5 hours suddenly.
I checked around the phone and found out that "Android OS" is keeping the phone awake at all times since it continuously downloading some data in the background. It managed to download over a 100 GB of data in 1 day.
I've tried factory resetting the phone but the the problem came back in a few hours and it's managed to download around 13 GB again in the last 3 hours. I'm not aware of a way to figure out what exactly is being downloaded. Is there a way I can trace exactly what's happening in the background so that I can look for a fix?

Hmm, very interesting...
I'd suggest installing ES explorer. The app tracks the storage space and will give you a report on big files as well as the new ones.
it must be an app reported as androidOS
check your installed apps 3rd party and make a screenshot for use may be we can choose it out
If you click on Android OS in data usage, it will show what things goes under Android OS. Maybe one of those has the answer.
