XT1765 Setup Ideas for MetroPcs Variant - Moto E4 Guides, News, & Discussion

This is a short video on my phone setup.
I finally got everything how I like it for now.
It took a long time fighting with stock and Xposed before I reloaded RR and got it more to my liking with ADW launcher.
I settled on:
Ressurection Remix 5.8.5
TWRP 3.1.1-R1
ADW Launcher Ex 1.3.3.9
Xposed Framework v89 SDK 25
Gravity Box [N] v7.3.0
Transparent Weather and Clock Pro 1.41.51
If you want to know about anything else you see or want to suggest something I may like feel free and thanks to those that take the time to read and/or watch the video.
I kept it short but it shows mostly everything.
Thanks to all devs that made this possible including

@rovo89
@Carlos Arriaga
And any others I missed
And special thanks for some ideas and help when I got stuck to

Wow. Glad you got it worked out. Great persistence on your part. That's what it takes on some of these Moto devices. Thanks for sharing.

Yes thanks again for the help, i really appreciate it.
I was kind of surprised how smooth everything is considering all the customization running.
There are definitely multiple ways to change some of these things from the RR customization, to GravityBox, and the ADW Launcher and the only compatibility issue i ran into was having two battery icons in my status bar at one point but was easy to fix. Ive had zero issues so far everything is working flawlessly and is functional and useful for my tastes, really happy with the setup i have atm, just need a few more apps and im set.... back to messing with my Samsung Tab S2 i guess. That thing is buggy AF and not quite there yet lol

Glad you came out of a rough patch largely intact. RR is a sweet ROM; overall satisfaction really depends how well it is adapted to the target device. I didn't notice LTE the brief video; that working?

First of all thanks for taking the time to check out my video.
ADW launcher really brought the RR the extra mile for me, but tbh I have noticed no issues so far.
I actually took my data and phone signal indicator down as a personal preference that was offered in the built-in rom customization in settings, lte+4g working fine, no better or worse than stock. I have the LTE lable changed to 4G as well.
I have it always on, with aggressive wifi to data handover with the $60 unlimited plan....

Hopefully you don't run into a bootloop when you reboot the phone. That happened to me on all the Roms except Lineage. DotOS, RR, and CrDroid. Adding anything like ADW just was a nightmare.

This was RR so no bootloop issue, ADW is just a launcher I've never had any issues installing it on any device of mine. Not long after taming my Moto e4 I got it stolen bya homeless gentleman haha so unfortunately I no longer own this device. Next one will probably be the e5 plus

[ROM][4.4.4][OFFICIAL] OmniROM Nightly Builds (TOROPLUS!)

I'm terrible with OPs.
I recently became the maintainer for all Galaxy Nexus devices for OmniROM. It came to my attention that toroplus (Sprint Galaxy Nexus) wasn't being built, and I felt terrible as I know how neglected you guys are over here. After a few fixes and tweaks and whatnot I was able to get it going and added to the nightly builds.

excellent - my other phone, ns4g (crespo4g) is already on omnirom by adityaxavier.. was wanting to get my toroplus on an omniROM and i see this post today.. need to try it out.
Let me start by saying thank you! It's nice not to be forgotten. I actually downgraded from my Optimus G to the Galaxy Nexus about 3 months ago but haven't looked back since. I'm having a blast with all these awesome Roms while keeping up with the best of em.
I've been waiting for this for a long time! Thanks XD
Thank you. CyanogenMod hasn't had a quality build for us in months. This could convert some users.

Any chance you guys would consider implementing the other style navbar with the ability to add from 5 custom buttons?...
A OTA come up on my phone data 7/26/14 i did the update and now my phone will not boot pass the Google logo, I try clear out the dalvik cache and cache, did not help. I had to re-flash 7/25/14 to get my unit to boot up again

Try a fresh install and then give some feedback. Sometimes updates don't work depending on what was changed in the latest nightly/update.

ok i did a clear install and work fine. so a new nightlies come out today so I install it and i am right back where I was with a blank screen after the googler logo. so every Nightlies will need to do a clear install now. i do not have this problem with my Note2.
just would like to know if this is going to normal so i will not flash Nightlies, I will wait to the end of the week or month to flash update

I am use TWRP 2.7.1.0
I used the automated system to update (which just calls TWRP) and I have no problems on today's nightly.
I think I'm about to stick to Omnirom. Seems more fluid, probably due to the lack of the theme engine.

I actually slightly miss the theme engine. I'll be sticking with Omni for now though, it's been very solid. And my compass works, which it never did on CM11, it was always pointing the wrong way. Google Sky Map, which worked wonderfully on my old Droid Incredible, was a complete fail on my toroplus - on CM, that is. It also works just fine on Omni, probably due to the compass working correctly.
I've just been downloading the nightlies and installing them via TWRP, haven't used the automated system updates (I don't even know where that is.)
how is the data handshake handled in omni? is it pulled from CM?
Nothing but praise for this rom so far. Gaining usage of 3g to 4g data after oem 4.3 screwed it up was great to have again. Thanks. Hope to donate when I have some extra cash.
I tried to install Roam Ctrl to force roam only for when I am in a bad area, but it won't work. Is this omnirom related or galaxy nexus released it may seem? Anyone have any other options for forced roaming? Would be a great feature to incorporate in a future omni update.
been using the rom now the whole weekend, wished i would have switched over sooner, this is a great rom and 4g/3g works great, and really starting to like active notifcations!
Dammit! For all my other stuff on XDA I always get an e-mail when there's a reply, but they haven't been sending them out for this thread so I just assumed there wasn't any replies >.<! My bad!

The Cyanogen Inc. theme engine is very resource-hungry, and I'm in agreement with the OmniROM team's decision to not include it. Maybe in the future it'll be different, but for now it seems more like Cyanogen Inc. dumped this unfinished mess on the public to let them find the bugs and fix it rather than do it themselves before releasing it.
Disclaimer: This is just MY opinion and is not meant as a representation of an official OmniROM opinion in any way, shape or form.
Interesting to hear about the compass...

I am aware of WiFi not automatically connecting, it'll do so after turning WiFi off and then on again however. That slight inconvenience probably helps save battery though, so it'd be cool to see if I can make it something configurable.

I wasn't even aware that the stock ROM was a mess with 4G data as well, yikes! You guys have really gotten the shaft it seems.
Any donation is greatly appreciated! Most donations I have received were invested into things to help with development, some examples would be: parts for fixing my Galaxy Nexus, a Bluetooth 4.0 adapter for my dev laptop to help with developing/debugging Bluetooth, microUSB cables (mine wear out all the time due to their constant usage!), Coca-Cola or Pepsi (whatever is on sale, I like 'em both) to keep me going when developing stuff, etc.
I can really stretch a little bit of money really far too: the Bluetooth 4.0 adapter (which includes really fast WiFi too, 300Mbps 802.11n :good I snagged for $15, and it's an Atheros! I constantly find 12 packs of soda on sale for $3 each, sometimes even $2.50 each. $5 can get me 24 cans of soda!!
If you do donate, consider doing it with Google Wallet if you can. PayPal charges some pretty ridiculous fees, Google Wallet doesn't have any fees, so a $5 donation via Google Wallet is $5 when I receive it, but a $5 donation via PayPal ends up being more like $4.50. I've got credit/debit/whatever cards linked to Google Wallet and PayPal, so I can use them wherever regardless of whether or not they're accepted as official payment methods somewhere too

Installed the latest nightly after a wipe. I can't get LTE to work. After the flash I had 3G and it was set on the 2G/3G Preferred setting, I changed it to LTE an immediately got some infinite loop of "Android Phone has stopped running" or similar.
Now when I toggle it to LTE I get no data, I'll get a signal indicator but I get no data at all. Any ideas?
edit: the *#*#DATA#*#* code pops up a "com.android.phone has stopped" error when I click Edit. I'm using the GApps as recommended in the OmniROM wiki.
edit: I've also noticed when I update PRL or Profile I get "Error: (Code:1)Internal Error" each time, could be related?

Is there a ROM that just works?

I used to be on Pure Nexus and obviously that hasn't been updated in a long time. I went on two different new ROM's that supposedly have no bugs and I had tons of bugs after following the instructions explicitly.
Is there a custom rom that actually is bug free the widgets work, the screen turns on without lag, and Google Assistant works???
I have tried a few roms, but personally I feel that non other rom has a better battery life and overall smoothness than the stock rom, just root it with Magisk and enjoy.
Loving Resurrection Remix with EXnoshadez Kernel and Xposed Greenify. Great battery life. I've tried Firehound, Benzo, Pixeldust, and Lineage. I'm preferring RR then Lineage as a close second.

Why do you prefer RR over Firehound?
I'm using Firehound and I find it solid and has all the extras I need. I was thinking of trying RR, but there seems to be a lot of bugs mentioned on the XDA thread.
Been using RR for a few days and doesn't have any major issues at all. Everything's been working fine.

RR has INSANE battery life, barely drains even if there are 3 audio mods installed, I would suggest using that. There is only one bug that is going to be fixed
Anything wrong with stock in particular? The monthly updates are prompt and basically effortless without needing to flash vendors or wait for the ROM developer to update. If you're not on stock (nonroot, locked BL), you run the risk of one day not being able to use apps that utilitize SafetyNet in case you use financial apps. Magisk has worked well in providing ways to circumvent it in a timely manner, but it is not guaranteed to always be able to bypass every update to SafetyNet, which the developer has mentioned.
ROMs aren't going to change the chipset magically to a newer one and increase performance substantially or add mAhs of battery to double the battery life. Android has matured since the days of using ChevyNo1 or P3Droid kernels on Sholes.
This is the conversation I am seeking. I am not going to say what ones I have used but Maps, widgets, WiFi calling, black screen when turning on. I want to avoid those situations.

IDK man, I see all that troubleshooting you're going through trying to get the device to run normally through the Pixel section. Is it really worth all that just to be able to change some cosmetics?
Stock will give you zero issues and save you the headache of what you're going through. Wouldn't it be nice to never have to worry about plugging into a computer to update, formatting or data, or spend so much time trying to get a device working? While at the same time, you get the updates as soon as they are available.

OK folks. I want to apologize for my flooding of the forums attempting to repair my situation last week. Yes, I have been flashing for a long time without real complications. I haven't been on my ADHD meds for a while and that did not help me with the drama last week. Unfortunately my world like most of you is in my phone, I was panicked. Sorry about that.
Needless to say I needed other eyes on what I was doing for perspective sake. I went to my PC tech, luckily had personal flashing experiences with Android, Pixel even. We worked on it for about 6 hours in total. He couldn't get RR to work.
The issue was this after following the OP instructions. Once in the system I couldn't get the WiFi to connect with the phone, not being able to download whatever the phone was looking for. Google play services kept FC'ing. Google TTS kept FC'ing as well. I don't know if there is a fix or a forthcoming fix for this abnormal issue. I deleted data from the apps that were FC'ing and other Google that might be related. PS: not a RR issue I had this same issue with Benzo)
Unfortunately, we didn't save anything from the old RR setup because I couldn't be without a phone for another day. Any constructive thoughts would be welcomed.
I shall attempt to reinstall RR at some point to see if it works, or to get data to help the devs understand what might have happened or might had happened.
I am back on stock, not loving it that is for sure.

Anyone tried SIX by R3Ds? I saw it on AFH but all I can find on G+ is about Walleye builds. Loved his ROM on Angler and would gladly run it on Taimen but always like others input on ROMs.

I'm right there with you bruh. Ran this as well on my 6p, and it was pretty much flawless! R3Ds has been making awesome roms for many years. Eclipse was a monster all dark rom back in the Moto X days. Why don't you flash it and let us know?? I'm going to after the April security patch, and when he updates it. C'mon bruh, flash that puppy!! ????
Yep I'd like some feedback on six also, ran it on my 6, fab rom
If I wasn't so uncomfortable with the way this phone is flashed I would have already lol. I think I'll wait till after April is released from Google and R3Ds puts out a build or so more. It was great work on the 6p though, I'm sure it'll be the same here.

Yeah....I couldn't get volte provisioning enabled. Couldn't even make phone calls despite installing carrier services, and doing the *#*#4636#*#* thing. Google camera kept FC on me, the aosp version worked fine. Lots and lots of tweaks for sure though. It's definitely a combo of aosp/Los/stock. It's a wip, but has lots of potential for sure! :good:

I'm on Sprint so no volte for me to begin with. Aside from volte did SMS and MMS work? Calls are important but I'll have to test that to confirm for myself.
Also, since I have twrp installed already I should just be able to boot into it, switch to the opposite slot, flash rom and twrp then boot/setup, boot back to twrp and flash magisk, right?

AOSP apps

So I have been in this modding android game for quite some time since I had an LG G3 and then I moved over to the Nexus 6 for about 2 years and some of these custom roms are just awesome but one thing I cannot get rid of properly are the inbuilt AOSP apps..
on the Nexus 6 a few years back somebody made a flashable zip that got rid of all of them and the boot animation but then fixed the boot animation being deleted and unfortunately time to change technology has changed and that doesn't work on this phone obviously.
I have tried using the magisk debloater and it just a little too complicated for me because I don't like having two of the same apps one being Google the other being AOSP and any other gaps package I flash besides the razorlove gapps fail when flashing a custom ROM..
I've tried using opengapps and I thought when flashing that package the AOSP apps get replaced with the Google version of them.
Would anybody mind listing what AOSP apps I can remove completely and I apologize if it's already on the thread but I didn't really see anything or maybe I just wasn't looking in the right place but can you guys help me out? I really like the RR ROM but the AOSP apps just bothered the hell out of me. I've tried using titanium to completely remove some of them like the AOSP Keyboard but it doesn't fully remove them and I don't want to go into the files that I don't know about and screw up my phone..
So right now I'm on stock and the limitations kind of suck so if anybody could you know help me out listing a method that they use to get rid of them that actually works or listing the ones that I can remove and what program I can use to remove them I do not want to disable them I want to remove them... Or because I know how to use Linux and what not you know maybe somebody could show me how to make a flashable zip that will remove them and I will gladly share it to the community but I'm looking for anything that helps.
It would be greatly appreciated!

You do realize that AOSP is not a single project like some rom developers, right? If someone publishes an "AOSP" rom, that doesn't mean that they are following some kind of standards or rules.

Well obviously but what I'm saying is pretty much every ROM that I flash seems to have the built-in apps that are AOSP based or maybe I'm not saying it right but basically every ROM that I've tried (dirty unicorns, Resurrection Remix, carbon, dotOS, sudomod,) all have built-in AOSP Keyboard AOSP phone AOSP calendar AOSP email **** like that and that's what I want to remove

A piece of advice. Get rid of your Pixel as soon as you can. It's a bug testing platform for Google. Samsung, HTC, LG, Oneplus take buggy Google code and refine it. Google doesn't bother.
I only keep this $960 piece of **** (which is now worth less that $300) because I have no other alternative at the moment. As soon as I can dump it for a real a phone, I will.
I'm good thanks I do my research before I buy my phones and I will never buy another Samsung again and dumping my phone is not an option right now if it was I get me the Rog phone from Asus that thing is a beast

I used an S9 for a little while when I was setting it up for a friend. It's a marvelous phone. I have owned multiple HTC flagships in the past, and they were stellar. I have heard that LG and Oneplus were excellent. My last phone before Pixel XL was Note 7, which was absolutely amazing, one of a kind. This pos Pixel XL has been nothing but bug ridden nightmare. The only reason why I keep it around is because of Project FI. It's because it's cheap. Goddamn $960 nightmare on top of that.
Also, please use punctuation next time. Not using it seems like an insult, but maybe that's just me.
I like my pixel XL. No bugs here.

Click on my profile and find new threads started by me in this subforum.
I believe every single new thread was me complaining about one bug or another.
The biggest one that is always on my mind though, and which is almost a deal breaker, was introduced by Google in the 7.0.2 update. And they still haven't fixed it, but all other manufacturers have - I know for a fact that this bug was fixed in Oreo by Samsung and Oneplus.
It's where you wear a smartwatch which can make and receive phone calls, such as my beautiful Huawei Watch with a gorgeous custom band, and then you get inside your car with a bluetooth hands-free car kit, or just a bluetooth headset, which then improperly connects to the phone as "Connected (no phone)." So you cannot use it. If you don't wear a watch, then everything works fine with a kit or bt headset. This is the reason why I don't wear my beautiful watch anymore. Google needs to fire their bluetooth stack programmer.

My bad. I use speech to text a lot and I don't like using punctuation when speaking. It causes some bad habits.
Update though, upon doing further research making a flashable zip is complicated but I should have it all figured out by the end of the week and I'm not really having any bugs with the AOSP apps I just don't like looking in my app drawer and seeing there's duplicates and I really don't want to manually hide all of them each time I flash a ROM or something and do a backup.
On a side note I just found a Chrome extension that allows speech to text and is very good with no ads. If you're like me and you use your voice more than you use your keyboard, look up voice in voice typing under Chrome extensions pretty damn simple.

A friend of mine made a script specifically for what you are trying to do, granted, it's for a different device and older version of Android. Some small modification should be all it needs to suit your purpose, if nothing else, it may contain some useful information.
The thread is located here (Keep in mind, he's from Brazil, so his English is a little rough =)

You are completely fine. I'm shocked how nice people are on here LOL usually people are just mean and think they have the right answer and I have to accept it no matter what and I just don't like people who are so full of themselves so thank you.
I've been trying to research this but I was supposed to have surgery today and I was getting ready for that and unfortunately it was cancelled without my knowledge so that was pretty stressful and now I have to start the whole process over again because the doctors I was going to go to no longer accept my insurance and nobody told me so I'm still going to work on this it's just going to be a little bit of a process.

As a side note, I am now in the same boat as you. I have a Oneplus 6 now, silk white, which is gorgeous. But it has double apps like yours - 2 calendars, 2 calculators, 2 message apps, 2 clock apps etc. I don't even really know which ones are Google and which ones are Oneplus - I think the round icons are Google, but rectangular icons are Oneplus. Plus I don't know which apps are better. I think that I will use some of them for a while and disable the least appealing ones.
There are only a handful, and maybe that's what you can do? Just disable? If you cannot disable from the main Android interface, you can do it from adb. There are commands that can disable and enable app packages from adb.
Hey guys I'm sorry it's been awhile since I've kept up with you guys. So a little side note
I have started this project it is my very first project on my GitHub.
But my problem is I have no idea how to even start this I mean I tried using the flashable zip creator and it pulled the system apps but I'm at a loss here any help would be greatly appreciated..
You can view the project at this link by the way

Custom ROMs or Stock?

Hi, I didn't know if this should be in Questions or Discussions, so apologies ahead of time.
I just got a Pixel 2 XL and recently unlocked the bootloader. I'm thinking about experimenting with some custom ROMs and tweaking some things, however I'm really digging the stock Pie experience. Is there really any super good reasons for installing any of the misc. ROMs out there? Or should I just stick to stock? Just looking for some opinions. Thanks!

Personally speaking, I've tried most of the custom roms, and they're all great in their own way, with fantastic Dev & community support in all of them. Having said that, I like the simplicity, and ease of updating every month with the factory images when they come out. Just a few clicks here and there, and I'm running the latest software and security updates, with my magisk modules, root apps, and themes up and running in about 30 minutes. But again, that's just me

Hmm, thanks for the thought. I've been digging how fast the stock ROM is. As long as it's easy to go back to stock I might give it a go, I just don't wanna risk the out of the box experience lol

No worries. With a little reading and some patience, you can usually always get back to stock. Course, ya never know when the gremlins will strike!
I've been on a major crack-flashing kick. I love the freedom. I've become very fond of a couple features some of the ROMS offer that are baked in. Stock is great, no doubt. Yet, the ROMS provided here are fantastic. Def worth a spin!

Currently I'm running the 12/5 build of Liquid and I really dig it. The version that is newer seems to have some complaints. When the next monthly update comes along I'll prolly try to dirty flash but will be prepared to go back to stock on the January update. Lol I know how to deal with burps on stock most of the times...
Custom roms all the way lol but i wouldn't even mind a custom stock rom with a few minor tweaks and mods like the old Google devices had

Haha yup I sure do.. the good ol days
Personally, I went on a week kick of using custom ROMs. I love them. They generally perform great and have some useful features, for me, such as:
One-handed mode
Swipe left on nav bar to go back
Status bar customization
Quick and easy themes for dark mode
etc
However, there are just a few trade-offs, which could make it or break it for you.
No squeeze for Assistant. I use this not for assistant but with the Edge Sense Magisk module that lets you customize your squeezes to do literally anything lol.
LED Notification (I have not been able to get this working on any ROM but someone correct me if its just a "me issue".
No ambient display "Now Playing" text. Keep in mind it'll still pop up as a notification and there was one ROM I tried (Nitrogen possibly?) that allowed me to control music on Spotify via the ambient display and i LOVED that!
Those 3 reasons keep me on stock for now. I may switch back into the ROM scene if I could at least get the LED notification working lol. The active edge functionality is also something I use constantly but it's not the end of the world if it's gone.
Anyway, this is what Ive noticed! Hope others can chime in!
Edit: I use light manager on stock. I'm unsure if it works on custom ROMs. I should try it!

Have you tried using Light Manger for your led notifications? Used to work great on 8.1 with custom roms. Although 9.0 may be different.

I use Light Manager on stock! I love it. You @localceleb use it on custom ROMs and it works? I'll admit that I have not tried it on custom ROMs but on stock it works swimmingly well! Haha
The beauty of these phones is you can always go to back to stock by just flashing the ota file in twrp.
So far my favourites are DU13 and Pixel dust.
I enjoyed Havoc AOSP. For now for me nothing beats stock with edge control. I use long squeeze for flashlight which is awesome for overnight piss breaks.
I never use squeeze nor care for the "Now Playing" on the lock screen (actually disabled both on stock).
I have been running stock for about a year with custom kernel, then found Havoc-OS and flashed that about 2 weeks ago. Don't have any complaints and absolutely love the customisation. Probably won't be going back to stock for awhile.
I prefer custom ROMs for minor tweaks such as status bar icon settings, lockscreen stuff and Substratum!
I've bought many themes so I'd rather have a device that has commits to make it work to its max potential (i.e. not having to reboot to enable overlays).
Updating process isn't difficult for custom ROMs either. Developers are usually pretty quick with updates once the Google images release every month. Just need to flash the new ROM zip, TWRP, kernel and root and you're golden!
