So I cracked my front glass under the bottom speaker exactly on the 8th day of owning my new pixel 2 xl :crying:
Thought about selling it as is but I would lose so much money also a screen replacement will set me back at least $200 without labor (Plus it's not available in my country)
I tried to look for a full coverage tempered glass screen protector that would cover this part (in black) but all the tempered glass screen protectors I could find do not cover the glass under the speaker
Last option I found was applying a Dbrand skin on the phone including the front glass that would cover that crack up but I have a few questions:
1. Would the Dbrand skin stick to the cracked part (there small missing pieces of glass that have fallen out)
2. Would removing the Dbrand front glass skin remove more glass from my phone
3. I thought about applying some transparent nail polish to the cracked part so it would hold the glass together so when I take off the skin the glass doesn't come out, good idea or stupid?
4. Should I apply the front Dbrand skin on top of a tempered glass screen protector (I read that it works) or should I apply it directly on the screen better?
I've attached 2 pictures of the cracked part so you can take a look
I really would appreciate all the help I can get as I am currently heartbroken for my new phone

If you do not find a practical Dbrand solution, you could use a tiny pinpoint application of clear resin on the cracks to even things out.
Sad for this to happen.....

I think a Dbrand skin would probably be best specially that it will cover up the crack completely for protection and so I don't see it and weep every time I pickup my phone
However covering the crack with Glue (I thought about transparent nail polish) is a good idea so when the skin comes off it doesn't take any more glass with it, do you have any ideas what I can use on the crack before applying the Dbrand skin?

What kind of resin should I use? I say this because I bought my Pixel 2 XL used for $300 and it has almost the same crack as the OP's pixel, but just on a much larger scale.
Here's the photo.
Could anyone give some advice on how to fill that patch up, as I don't really think that any kind of screen protector nor skin would ever help! Thanks a lot!
P.S.: the crack doesn't come up even a bit to the screen, so the POLED is safe and sound under the glass, but still, I hate that dust and water can get in so easily.
Plus, I had my Pixel for 3 months now, and the crack didn't make shards of glass fall out and the phone works flawlessly, apart from the Lost IP67 water & dust resistant rating.

Clear jeweler's resin like this should work good: https://www.amazon.com/Environmental-Technology-02004-EnviroTex-Jewelry/dp/B007PZW60U The kind that mixes 2 clear liquids- resin and catalyst - will cure as hard as stone and stay clear.

In my case I intend to cover up the crack with a Dbrand skin on the glass, my worry is that the glass will come out when I take the skin off so I just wanted something to hold it together, if this your case too then I suggest you try what I will in couple of days: Sugru
I tweeted my problem to ifixit and they were kind enough to reply with the suggestion to use sugru to hold the glass together : https://twitter.com/Sab3elbromba/status/1028976749873430528
When I did a little googling I found this: https://lifehacker.com/patch-your-broken-smartphone-screen-with-sugru-1440578257
It's not the prettiest thing in the world but I don't care as I will cover it up with a Dbrand skin anyways
I hope that was helpful and sorry for what happened

Use a CAR WINDSHIELD REPAIR KIT. It should be able to make that chip nearly invisible, and will also hold the glass together so it doesn't get any worse.
if you bought it with a credit card, it probably has accidental damage protection for the first 30 or 90 days

How about LOCA Glue? (LOCA stands for liquid optically clear adhesive)
It is used by most manufacturerers for their smartphones screens, to attach the glass to the lower OLED stratum specifically because it's completely invisible as the name implies.
I fear that the car windshield repair kit is going to disrupt the screen and penetrate too deep with the pressure applied to fill cracks. How do you feel about it?
Could you give me some pieces of advice for using it the best way? Thanks a lot for the support! @Sab3elbromba @96carboard
Yeah cracked the top of mine yesterday. Stubborn me wasn't using a case. I'm gonna save up and just get it replaced. Was thinking about getting a Pixel 3 this year...guess not.
Not saying this is the right thing to do or that it will 100% work but, it for for sure a possibility.
1. Burn in the screen and RMA claiming a screen burn in.
2. Make something look defective and RMA it
3. Replace the screen yourself
Not suggesting any of these just listing options.

I'm really disappointed in the fragility of the glass around the speaker grilles. My cousin dropped his Pixel 2 XL with a Speck Presidio Grip case on, landing back first, and the glass around the top speaker cracked and spread a bit to the screen; even a chunk of glass fell out. From drop tests online, this area appears to break very easily. Why can't Samsung make Pixels? When comparing the Note 8 and Pixel 2 XL side by side, the screen on the 2 XL feels hollow and less reinforced. Google really should do what Motorola used to and offer one free replacement for accidental breakage.

Why would you need this if screen isn't curved? I have a Pixel 2 XL. And liquid adhesive is a expensive and a pain to install.
Tempered glass
Is the Nilkins tempered glass compatible with the clear case provided in the box?
I have installed 2 tempered glass and both will have air bubles when used together with clear case provided in the box
2nd question, anybody has experience using screen protector clearplex or X-one?

Yea! You can install glass over it. I did it on my first glass screen protector but the screen is not as clear to install glass alone.

Expensive, yes. I find easy to install though and while it has more steps it is far easier to get a perfect type fit, in the end. Regular temp glass lifts off, gets stuff under the edges, and is prone to that oil slick effect - the liquid adhere types solve those issues and aside from better fit/feel they last longer.
Hmm seeing as the Mate 20X screen is mostly flat and a little curve at the extreme edge (similar to iphones), is there any decent full coverage (those with the black borders) tempered glass for it?
I've seen a few at the shops but when i test fit them over my screen i can see that the black border covers some of the pixels of the screen, making it look like "surrounded" or "covered". like if you were to view an old website (where they put absolutely no padding at all) the left and the right side of the text will be cut off (Eg, the first letter "A", probably the left leg will be cut off)
This is also a problem I noticed with my iPhone X, most full coverage tempered glass being sold have their black borders a little too thick and will "eat" into the screen when applied, so far the only tempered glass i know of that has black borders and not exhibit this issue is the one by spigen (google for pics), their black border is thin enough that it does not interfere with the screen.
Wondering if such a product exists for the Mate 20 X?
I have the black border Tempered Glass on my Mate 20 X and also i have used these black borders Tempered glass for my Xiaomi Mi Mix 18K. Yes, it is true, they ,, eat '' a little bit from the screen edges, but i would rather prefer these and have a full coverage rather than the crystal clear ones and have the screen protected like 90%... as those dosen't fit on the entire screen. I don't mind at all the borders... it's only about 2mm , barely notice in everyday use...
So, if you guys want to have full coverage and full protection for the screen, goes for the black borders tempered glass... my honest opinion...

Those only have adhesive around the edges correct? Dot matrix and some rainbow effect, no?
Sent from my HUAWEI EVR-AL00 using XDA Labs
I've currently found one (google hoda mate 20 x tempered glass, I can't post links), 1st or second result, the black borders seem to be rather thinner, might want to order one to test but its about $20

That's true, rainbow effect and matrix, but i don't mind at all, is better to protect the entire screen rather than just 90% of the surface...
The matrix and rainbow effect is visible only with the screen off, with the screen turned on you can't see these effects...

You could grab those black border style adhesive at sides type tempered glass and convert it to those full loca glue type, just strip away all the extra film and leave it with the bare glass, then just get those spare glue tubes used in whitestone and apply it yourself, i did the same thing with my XZ2 Compact seeing no one sells a whitestone type full coverage protector so i did it myself
But for now, I am quite happy with my Nillkin H+ tempered glass (especially coming from me, since i am the type that normally prefers those full coverage full adhesive types), yes, it does not go all the way to the edge but as i'm using it with the provided huawei TPU case it fits just fine, more important is to protect the screen and get back that "glass" touch.
Hey guys! Just thought I'd share my experience trying to hunt down the best screen protector for my Galaxy S10e.
After trying about 4 different glass protectors all with pinch hole camera cut outs and being dis satisfied with the look and feel of the edges I decided to try one that came with a solid glass that covered the front entirely. It also had a super thin black boarder that I wasn't entirely convinced I was going to like.
Turns out it is AMAZING!! Phone looks literally as if there is nothing on. Edges are completely smooth so no more scratchy feeling whenever I slide my finger to use the edge display or gesture navigations.
Totally felt I had to share this! You can search for it on Amazon! :highfive:

Sorry wasn't sure if I could share a link i just added it to the OP. Yes it is case friendly and I belive the black border covers a super small part of the screen that is a fraction of a millimeter. When using edge lighting all you need to do is increase the thickness a bit.
However it does not get in the way at all and from my experience it is way better than other screen protectors I have tried that have transparent as they reflect the light at angles. Also the borders look terrible during the day, you can clearly trace it with your eye. This one literally reflects no light and looks like if there is nothing on it at all (the black border provides this effect)
Furthermore, this one comes with a plastic frame that makes placement and alignment such a breeze!
Hope that helps!

amFilm for Samsung S10e by TechMatte
Very easy install with alignment tool, nice squeegee tool got all the bubbles out. Looks excellent after install was complete. Will update in a few days to see how it look after a few days of use but so far so good. Was probably the easiest Tempered glass screen saver I have ever installed, very satisfied
Bought this exact screen protector because I wanted something inexpensive and without a cam cutout (I'd rather deal with an additional layer of glass on a front camera I anyway never use than with dust piling up in a tiny cutout). Well, I don't share OP's enthusiasm. A corner started to shatter appart after only a week, and I didn't even drop it or anything. It was in the same pocket as my lighter which might be the culprit but c'mon, if it can't handle a lighter and turns into a H8 shards dispenser that soon, how is it supposed to prevent scratches on the screen ?
Another corner got damaged after a 50cm (metric FTW) drop on wooden floor and I decided to get rid of it altogether.
It's cheap, it's easy to apply, it looks good (although the black border overlaps the screen by maybe half a millimeter), and it might last a bit longer for someone less careless than I am, still not a viable long term option according to me.

Sucks you had a bad experience with it. So I ended up reaching out to them after myself finding my screen protector had cracked and they sent me another one for free.
It probably isn't the strongest screen protector but it's cheap, easy to install, and looks great! It's TRUE the protectors with the hole punch are a haven for dust and just look hideous in general.
If you stumble across a better screen protector I'd love to hear about it! Perhaps I'll try it out next if this one tanks on me again
Cheers!

Yes it does. I have one installed now and it cuts off a sliver on each side
Just received my case from AliExpress.
Very thin and first impressions are favourable although I'm tempted to put a thin clear film over the joint between the case and mini screen in the corner in case the edge flexes and scratches the screen.
Construction is a very thin hardshell rear with a plastic flip and a smoked translucent corner on the front.
Clearance for the cameras on the rear is minimal.
There's a small square magnet visible on the flip below the widow for the hall sensor to let out acts as a smart cover.
Using miui12 always on screen and smart case options gives a small clock and battery indicator in the window.
Can see the height difference between the Xiaomi smart cover and the leather case I had before.
The orange is muted and the Matt dark grey of the phone holder contrasts nicely.
Hopefully the mi10 won't get as warm with this case as it did with the leather one!

What do you mean by lateral?
That might not have translated well
The screen turns off when you close the case and turns on when you open it.
I highly suggest not using this case! it leaves a mark on your display exactly where the glass plastic part begins. because it is not perfectly flush with the leather part.
I used mine for about a week and have a permanent scratch on the display the entire length of the plastic window.

Mine the plastic is recessed away from the screen slightly so it shouldn't make contact.
I put a piece of clear gorilla tape over the joint anyway
I take it you don't have a screen protector fitted?
Mine came with one

nope mine did not come with a protector! which is odd cause everyone got theirs with a protector already applied. At the time I assumed this product would protect the display until my glass gets here but... it did the opposite -_-
I don't use this case even now that i have the glass on my phone because it limits the ways I can use it.
It looks dumb when taking photos because the thing just flaps in the air also cannot use my gimbal or my bike mount. all in all not my best purchase

I can't believe plastic is able to scratch the gorilla glass display.

I would guess you have an screen protector. I didn't see mine at first because ist sits perfect.
Looking at the notch is where i could see it on my phone.

I didn't believe it either but my phone did. lol
Be my guest and try for yourself. I don't know the technical term but the screen has some sort of coating as it's top most layer and the case made a permanent mark on the glass if you clean it perfectly it's not visible. But as soon as you touch the display that part will get dirty almost instantly. Another example, if i use an alcohol wipe the outline of the window on the display retains moisture and the rest does not. So call it what you want but this case damages your display.
my solution was to clean the display perfectly and put a "Hydrogel" (marketing BS for plastic foil) on top. I totally forgot about it until you quoted my post
Oh you mean the oleo phobic coating. Been there already because i was so "smart" and had washed my first smartphone display with dishwashing soap and was wondering why it was getting dirty even after cleaning.
Later I found a solution:

I've had 2 different screen protectors now from differing suppliers on eBay.
The protectors themselves I'm happy with, but both are probably at least 5mm too small (height and width), although they are advertised as for the Pixel 5.
Eg. If I line the protector up pretty much to the top of the screen, then the bottom will line up where the swipe up white line is at the bottom of the screen, so at least 5 or 6mm short in my opinion.
Is anyone else on here using a tempered glass protector, and how are you finding the fit?
Can anyone recommend one that actually covers more of the screen?
Cheers
I have the spigen alignmaster for a day now and it fits nearly perfect, just about 0,5mm too small in every direction
Way back in October i bought a set of screen protectors for my Pixel 5 and all 3 in the pack ended up in the bin. Bubbles galore and badly aligned camera cut outs.
Yesterday i fitted a Spigen one and it went on perfect with the protector fitting up to the start of the bezels , very happy with it indeed.
Hope the spigen protectors will come back in stock

Do you have any pics to show what it looks like? I have a cheap Amazon glass screen protector which has around a 2mm gap around which I'm happy with. If the Spigen covers more of the screen I will get that instead.
Looking at the pictures though it seems the Spigen doesn't have a selfie camera cutout? It seems if the selfie camera is covered it has a pretty big impact on the quality of the pics.
Edit: Actually looking at some Youtube videos, it covers only the display part and not the bezel, like most of the screen protectors so I'll be sticking with mine.

I took some outstanding selfies with the Spigen protector on yesterday, it doesn't affect the quality.
Also, having come from a protector with a cutout, I prefer it being covered because now there isn't a dust trap around the camera due to the protector edge.

The bezel has a slight curve though so the screen protector would be lifted up and you wouldn't get a perfect seal.
I'm with Stringy on the cut out as well it is better not to have one, the ones i tried did not sit perfectly around the camera, they were always slightly off centre and it quickly trapped dust.
Hello, very bad sound in a noisy environment with spigen https://www.amazon.fr/Spigen-AlignMaster-Technologie-Auto-Alignment-Protection/dp/B08HPWFGKP/ref=sr_1_1?__mk_fr_FR=ÅMÅŽÕÑ&dchild=1&keywords=spigen+pixel+5&qid=1611689948&sr=8-1

anyone else having issues with the proximity sensor with the spigen tempered glass? i've noticed sometimes the AOD switches off and the screen won't turn on after a call when the phone is away from my head
only a reboot fixes it.

I have not noticed anything untoward personally, the phone appears to work as it should.

Weirdly i thought it improved call quality, it gave the call audio a bit of depth and seems to have removed some of the tinniness.
Anyone use LK glasses from Amazon? I bought a pack of three and I would like to know how good they are; Are they cover usable screen?
Edit: Received them today. Very good tempered glass, good quality (not the best) very easy to install with the plastic tool, no problem with the camera hole. Fits perfectly.
