I have a Redmi Note 5 Global with MIUI 9.5.19, and I want to install 8.7.26 (MIUI10) because I can't unlock my bootloader yet (14 days to go).
My question is: can I do that safely without bricking my device? And can I go back to MIUI 9.5.19 if I wanted to?
Thanks!
I did same thing and it worked flawlessly.

You have a locked bootloader? You used a recovery ROM or a fastboot ROM (MiFlash tool)?
Thanks!

Just update through the phones settings with the zip file. You might need to try different MIUI 10 versions. There is always only one version you can go to from your current MIUI 9 version. Took me 4 tries but now it's working great

I flashed MIUI 8.7.26 through the method you mentioned without issues, but it has so many bugs, especially with notifications on lockscreen that bother me so much. Do you know if I can revert back to global stable MIUI 9 with the same method without issues with ARB?

Hi, I just bought Redmi Note 5 today and after I turn it on, it is already on MIUI 10 8.7.5 Global Beta. The question is, can I roll it back to to MIUI 9.6 Global Stable? Because I found this rom isn't comfortable and I found so many bugs. I don't want to update it to MIUI 10 stable yet because ppl in MIUI forums complained that there are some bugs.
Thanks
Wtf...New device came with Developer beta rom?

8.7.5 miui 10 is ARB3 you can rollback to 9.5 miui 9.5.17.0 thats last ARB3..
or get 9.6.4.0 thats ARB4.
How come new device comes with beta ROM?? Something wrong with reseller please contact ask them
Right now your device is on arb3 (no antirollback) you can upgrade to latest version with firmware less ROM

Hi , si
can i go back to miui 9.6.4? I currently have 10 miui but I want to return to that version, as I can do it safely, I do not want my cell phone to be as brick because of the antirollback.

After downgrading just do a factory reset

Flashing Custom ROMs is safe leaving aside MIUI based custom ROMs.
Go from Oreo to Pie or Pie to Oreo without a doubt in any AOSP or Lineage OS based ROM, but if you ever want to go back to MIUI or any MIUI based ROM just ensure that you install the latest version or the version higher than the one you had previously.
Only the firmware found in MIUI ROM is responsible for bricking. So you can also try firmware-less MIUI ROMs. There are many relevant threads regarding it.
Just do a search.

Ok what are roms that based on miui to avoid them?
It's easy to find by the nomenclature.
Their names include MIUI or a variation of it.
Some are: Revolution OS, MIUI Pro, MIUI Eu, Masik ROM.

Did u mean that miui based rom can brick my phone ?
Did u sure for that ?
I think the only way to brick it to go from arb4 to arb3 in miui official rom only but the miui based roms i dont think so .... But if u sure about that tell me again ?

I mentioned that you should always install a MIUI build that is of higher version than you previously had to be on the safer side.
After MIUI 9.5.17, ARB protection bumped to ARB4 from ARB3.
So, once you update to any ARB4 version and then make a mistake of installing any MIUI build of ARB3, your device will be bricked.
That's why I mentioned that always ensure that you install the latest build or the build with version higher than the one you had previously installed.

I believe his question was about custom MIUI roms which have firmware update removed so that risk of bricking is non existent. I believe reading that Masik does not contain firmware, but I'm not sure.
Other than your good explanation about ARB4 vs ARB3, one thing to add: anyone on ARB4 can flash any ARB4 rom since the bootloader checks for anti rollback protection index but not the MIUI version specifically. So any rom starting from Stable v9.5.19 if I remember and Beta 8.7.6 are safe, until ARB5 comes (if it comes, and if it requires ARB5).

as long as they tell you in the rom features or installation that doesnt affect ARB or doesnt touch firmware its ok.. but not sure if not all miui based roms have firmeareless. so you need to read rom intructions.

PE Extended. Also depends on the Kernel. But nothing like MIUI gives you better battery life.
try mcaosp rom... you won't switch to any other rom ever... best custom pie rom in my opinion. or if wanna go for miui based go for masik x1.7

A clean install will do with custom recovery, you can aslo leave internal storage unticked when erasing partitions. You cannot just go back and flash EU rom back to PIE from Android 10 because it will bootloop.
As far as ARB goes, there is no ARB once you are flashing custom roms.

Assuming your bootloader is unlocked and you have TWRP or Orange Revovery, you can do whatever you want. If backup work, go ahead. I suggest using Orange Recovery if you do not have that already.

Wipe all partitions, unless you are keeping stuff in your internal storage don't erase. Othereise flahsing the rom and them flash the current Magisk if you plan to use YouTube Vance or Viper4Android. I think the 12.26 version is Andoid 10. You may want to use the Xiaomi EU Developer Rom 9.11.14 one for Pie, after that it's Android 10. I aslso use that rom too in order to use custom Ressurected Kernel 6.2 Dev/AOSP, and Viper4android
Hello experts,
I wanna downgrade from miui 11 v11.0.1.0 (QEDMIXM) Global stable to Miui11 V 11.0.7.0 (PEDMIXM) global stable, is it safe to downgrade without hardbrick? Secondly, I checked, both roms have ARB level 4 protection. Need your expert advise before going to downgrade.
Thanks in advance

Installing android 9 custom rom on Xiaomi Mi Max 3 with android 10
Please I'm running Android 10 on my Xiaomi Mi max 3 but I want to install Lineage Os version 9 custom rom, Can the downgrade work?
Hello. I have been using Xiaomi.eu 20.6.18 based on MIUI 12.1
In a few days I think that they will release MIUI 12.0 based stable release but my phone has ARP so I think that downgrading will brick it, don't it?
Anyway, this weekly ROM is working well at the moment but I would like to use the stable version someday. I have some doubts so I will put numbers in them:
1. Can I go back to MIUI 12.0 based ROM while using MIUI 12.1 based ROM or not? without triggering anti-rollback
2. Can I switch to Pixel Experience (for example) which is using Android 10? It is a newer version of Android but I don't know how MIUI ARP handles it
3. If the point 2 answer is 'yes', I suppose that ARP is gone (at least Xiaomi's one) so, can I install Xiaomi.eu MIUI 12.0 from Pixel Experience? (I will be downgrading I know)
Thanks all of you for your future answers, and sorry for the number of questions. Any doubt about my explanation or something just ask
Arb only matters if u go back to very old version of miui ie, 9 and some version of miui 10....it doesn't matter with custom ROMs also...u can also check ur current arb status
No arb was implemented with miui 9.5.19 (global stable), so u can go till this version without bricking ur phone.
As u r on latest beta u have an index value of 4.

Yes u can use the recovery method for returning back to miui 11.
Why i was recommending the fast boot method?
Bcoz I've seen if u flash global miui after flashing china based/eu roms, u cannot change ur region to other country other than china. Obviously this can be fixed by editing build.prop or flash region fix but u will have to root in the 1st case.
But u can try recovery method brother.
Yes miui 12 is better than 11 bcoz of new privacy features, ios style control center, no miui optimization api.
