Best battery custom rom - G4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everybody, I just have a quick question regarding the battery life of custom ROMs. I have tested many ROMs and all of them either have performance issues or battery life issues and I was wondering if somebody could tell me which ROM has the best of both worlds? (if any of them do) because I really don't like LG's nougat skin. (Doesn't matter which model it's for they all seem to work lmao)

I have been impressed with [G4][13.1][TITAN] ~ AICP ~ [H815][H811][UNOFFICIAL] feeling it combines the best of AOSCP N and Lineage O.
Refer to post # 1206 in the UsU thread for my review of it. Here's a relevant excerpt:
Coming from LineageOS 15.1 Oreo, I am very impressed with the performance and stability of this rom. It seems to me to combine the best of the AOSCP N and LineageOS O roms, and it has Privacy Guard included, a big plus in my book as I can extend some battery life (in addition to having Greenify and Amplify installed), by turning off Keep Awake in Google Play Services and Google Services Framework and other apps as well as limiting some that I don't need to Run In Background or load on Bootup. Find it in Settings > Security and Privacy > Trust > Privacy Guard > touch the 3 dot menu in the top right of the screen and select Advanced.

Suggestions for an AOSP Lollipop ROM?

Hi, I'm looking for a suggestion on a good Lollipop ROM with AOSP look.
I need it to be stable enough for a daily medium usage (Web browsing, Facebook & Messenger, no gaming except for some light games here and there (like aa)), and good battery life with at least 4 hours of SOT. It's a 2GB version though. Will any ROM for D855 work on it?
I actually prefer cyanogenmod on my devices, but I heard it has some issues, so that's why I'm asking for a suggestion.

I've been using CM12 on my D852 for quite a while and just moved up to CM12.1 and I have no issues with SOT, 4h+ or battery life. Bugs are so minimal I'm not sure you'll find any. I use the HTC M9 Camera mod, google " HTC m9 camera on LG G3" + the htc m9 patch v1.1.
I'm not sure I trust the cm12 camera, though it supports 4k recording in CM12.1

AOSP= Android Open Source Project
OPO= one plus one?
Depends on what you want. If you want the stock-based experience, then in this Forum here ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/development ) you can find ROMs such as CloudyG3 and ChupaChups ROMs that are based off stock. You can install AOSP themes for stock if you want complete customization for stock features, otherwise there's AOSP ROMs like BlissPop (HIGHLY recommend), Euphoria-OS, and others. Have a look around the forum I linked you to above, see which you'd prefer and look at all the features of each ROM and see which suit you. If you want battery life then AOSP is the way to go with nearly unlimited customization and custom kernels (Stuff that controls your CPU, GPU, screen, etc) you can achieve almost double the screen on time of the stock ROM. BlissPop's latest version includes the 777 kernel by jon777 and an app built-in to select whether you'd rather performance or battery life.
Essentially, AOSP is the pinnacle of Customization, while stock-based ROMs allow you to keep the stock experience with some tweaks. Although AOSP ROMs don't have some stock features like the QRemote, QCircleCase and others built in, you CAN install XPosed (Currently in Super-Alpha for Android 5.1) modules that insert these features into the ROM. For example, I'm running BlissPop with an Xposed Module that does all the funcitons of the QuickCircleCase so I'm able to use it with my non-stock ROM.
Ultimately it's up to you, but I'd look through that forum I linked you to above and see which looks best and suits you the best.
Hope this helped!

[HELP]Choosing a CM/AOSP ROM

Hello dear community. I want to change to a cm/AOSP ROM but i dont know who to Choosing. I want a Stable rom with good battery life. And If You want guys , please share you'r kernel setting for best battery life. Thanks ( i have a medium usage with FB,messenger,Instagram,YouTube) not games.
Hey, when i use cm or aosp based roms i always come back to aicp because of features like aokps fling navigation bar. But all CM based roms will have same bugs as cm/lineage itself
I always use the kernel wich comes with the rom and i dont know about kernel tweaks and settings
This is a real personal choice. I use only MM based ROMs because of the issues all N ROMs currently have. I hope that they get those issues fixed and encryption will work some day but atm this all is a no go for me to go to N.
Regarding battery life there are 2 main components regardless of any ROM you choose:
1) use MSM hotplug (enable that with the app kernel adiutor)
The kernel needs to support that which is maybe not the case for all ROMs but you can always flash llama kernel which supports that
2) display
It makes a dramatically difference how much you increase the max brightness level of the display
There are thousands of other things especially logd process and Google services which could drain battery and there are thousands of tweaks out there trying to give you more battery life but my personal experience is that the above 2 things are the most important ones.

See that is just one more reason why Nougat on this device is not production ready ... Imho..
Edit:
I recommend RR 5.7 + llama + greenify (donation edition ) + Xposed to enable advanced greenify settings
You could also give slim rom MM a try in general forum..

You can try resurrection remix 5.7.4 mm I think is full and more stable rom.
For kernel I am comfiest too and try to found the good settings too.
Don't use N roms are not ready yet for me.
Good luck.

What are the issues on N, apart from encryption and video recording? I'm torn between 13 and 14, my inner self is not OK with running without encryption ;d

its not stable as MM. and has lot of bugs. no video recording unless you select api2. no xposed and its no longer CM its LAOS. and they building again like they started to build from scratch so i believe.
That's my question, apart from video recording I don't see any bugs. And they don't start from scratch, it's just cm with different name.

I just followed the cm thread since a while and saw issues but I don't remember all of them. there were issues with screen lock with f2fs with camera with Xposed and some more. What's left is my feeling that I don't trust in N for the moment..

Z2 Plus overall usability review with custom roms and bugs, battery life, heating etc

Hi Z2 plus users.
After lot of analysis and research, I finally ordered Lenovo Z2 plus today. Got a great deal.
8k INR / approx 125 USD
I have the option of getting Redmi Note 4 as well at approx 150 USD / 10k
I have gone through lot of videos on youtube with different custom rom reviews of Z2 plus, pros, cons etc.
My main concerns are:
- Battery Life
- Heating issue
- Overall usability without digging into custom rom installations and updates very frequently. I will install custom rom but would like to use it as daily driver for few months at least before I look for new updates etc. (Time is the issue - Don't get much of it these days to do all the research and experiments )
With custom roms like AICP, Jaguar - how is the battery life in terms of SOT?
How is the heating issue with custom roms which this phone is infamous for?
I saw a review from Indian tech reviewer on youtube suggesting Jaguar R14 is very stable and good rom for this. But I see some complains and users posting different issues in Jaguar rom thread.
Kindly suggest, if it will be good to go for this phone now (after 1.5 yrs of it's launch)?
Can I expect to use it as daily driver without any significant issues for next 2-3 years with custom roms?
At present which custom rom will you suggest with regards to Battery life and heating issue resolution?
some inputs here will he really helpful

I do not have the device yet and that is my dilemma whether to accept it or return it.
Does these roms also have overheating issues?
How is the battery life on these?
CitrusCAF 3.5 by miju12 seems very stable(dont flash custom kernel unless you know what you are doing) and have favourable review from the users.
and Lenovo z2 is better choice anyway
looks okay
Got mine today as well. Same deal as the OP (around $120). First thing done was an upgrade to Nougat. Sept 2016 manufacturing and there was still 30% charge left . Device did heat up during upgrade as it was on charge. Haven't observed any major heating since. I have upgraded (or downgraded) from a oneplus 2 so my criteria of heating may be somewhat biased. A 5 inch display does seem smallish though.
Geekbench 4 was 1720, 3999 which is par for SD820. So no throttling etc.
Just wondering what is so broken about stock ROM ? What's not going well with everyone on ZUI ? I did tweak the DPI to my liking - other than that ROM feels pretty much stockish android. I mean I have heard so much hate about stock ROM for this device?
Edited - Ok I am starting to see oddities. 1. Double notifications (any fixes?)
And the usual follow up questions -
- Does the U touch specialization / gestures (swiping etc) work on the custom roms for this device ? Edited - Yes I guess.
- Would unlocking bootloader reset the device ? If yes, might as well do it before setting up apps etc. Edited - Yes it would like any other device.

I have been using Rooted ZUI (I believe that’s what the stock rom is called) for a few weeks now (Xposed now, but that’s been just a few days). At first I thought I would keep it stock rooted and get all the things I need with Xposed, but the Notification drawer and Lock screen is getting on my nerves. All notifications are ICS Style, i.e. they are not expandable and they have no quick action (except USB connection to PC which lets u choose cam/file mode). Lock screen has this weird image in the middle which just sits there doing nothing. Notifications doesn't get displayed in lockscreen (weirdly I am getting 1 calendar notification there, but nothing else). I tried enabling lockscreen notification for a lot of apps, but it seems to just allow calendar and nothing else.
The U-touch is awesome BTW, but wont let me start Google Assistant voice through it (I like being able to set alarms through it)

Looking for new ROM

Hi,
I want to install new rom on my Z1C. I don't know exactly what to choose. I've been running on MX V8.50 but then I realised that battery drops fast and it also have Trojan inside. I want to increase my battery life as much as possible and I was wondering about installing KitKat based ROM is it a good idea? If yes then which ROM? I need some advices and I'm also concerned about security on KitKat. Maybe should I stay on 5.1.1? Or look for newer versions? How about Lineage? Is it good for battery?
Hello, I join as I am also looking for a system that will go fast with a good kernel for the maximum overclocking for games and with a small battery, I've tried several systems based on 5.1.1 as well as 7.1 it's hard to choose something, somehow as I used to have phones LG there were many more rums to choose from !! strange because Xperia Z1 and Z1 Compact are very good phones

Battery drain is best when controlled by you. Use firewall and app disabler/system manager apps, etc, and control how your battery gets used.
Security is only solved by using latest versions, since you can't add security patch to built rom, so if you're concerned, use latest rom, (for this phone would be AICP or LOS 14 by munjeni. However, some would say that the security issue is way overblown. For sure, if you use your phone to do security sensitive things regularly, (with bank account and personal information, etc), then you want to be wise, but the actual instances of Android phones getting violated because of lack of security patches are pretty few, and also can be controlled by things like firewall, etc.
My suggestion is to test many roms, and if you find one you like, but is lacking in a certain area, find a way to address that issue.
Yes levone1 you're right I agree that the protections are important, thanks to you I will check this AICP is a system based on CM 12.1 (Resurrection Remix - only newer with baiers, etc.)

What custom ROM around has the less performance hit?

Heya there,
This question would fall on both performance & battery, what ROM do you guys prefer that hits both keys decently?
I'm looking for one that is beyond the default 4.2.2 Android because of incompatible apps with that version.
Max
From XDA, I only tested lineage 14.1 and viper 2.1, and both perform really good being viper the one which I felt was the fastest and lightweight and with some stuff fixed over lineageos (usb thetering, wifi hotspot, some minor crashes, etc).
Being those two the ones that are most up to date and both are on android 7.1.2
Cosmic OS , android 4.4.4

It gives the best performance so far out of any custom OS , you can also try AOSP 5.1.1 by pawtip. Later android version make the phone very sluggist in a week or month.
