So, I decided to apply to unlock my bootloader. I started following this guide.
I created a Mi account, but I was not greeted by a form to write the reason I wanted to unlock the bootloader.
A little baffled there, but I decided to proceed (maybe the form was in the app). I proceeded to the unlock page and voila! I had the link to download the Flash Tool. And so I did, I ran the miflash_unlock.exe and filled in my account and password.
Next I plugged in my phone in fastboot mode, as it was needed (I had not enable OEM Unlock in Developer Options nor had I associated my device with my account), and I was greeted with this image:

What am I doing wrong? The Unlock button is active (meaning I can click it), but I don't want to brick my phone a couple of days after I bought it.
My device (just in case):
Android Version : 8.1.0 OPM1.171019.011
MIUI Version : MIUI Global 9.5 | Stable 9.5.13.0(OEIMIFA)
Baseband Version : 660_GEN_PACK-1.147555.0.150932.1
Kernel Version : 4.4.78-perf+
Android Security Patch Level : 2018-05-01
You're not doing anything wrong. Now you don't need to apply for permission. Instead go ahead and start Unlocking process. You will be promoted with a message saying that you need to wait for some amount of time (72, 360 or even 720 hours) depending on your model.
Bind your Mi account with your device first.
Go to settings > additional settings > developer options > here you'll find the option to bond your Mi account with your device.
Edit: don't update MIUI as you have arb-3

Thank you for your reply, it was clarifying! On the guide, it says I have to use a VPN to access the Chinese servers, is it really necessary? (just a question, it is not an issue!)
Hi,
My query is kind of different.
I want to hide unlocked bootloader from a few apps. ( Blackberry Work email app).
Any information on this will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

I tried connecting to a bunch of Chinese server using VPN (as seen on some youtube videos) but I guess that method is now patched. I guess, it's only applicable on phones with Chinese ROMs within China.
You have to wait. While find some good ROMs and stuff. All the best.

Some apps requires Safetynet to be passed in order to use them, i.e. Banking apps. Unlocked bootloader, rooted phone can trigger this safetynet to fail. You can use magisk to hide the fact that your phone is unlocked.

Thanks for the revert,
however I have already tried Magisk hide and safetynet module but it's not working for me. I am using Redmi note 5 pro with Android 9.0 Pie based Pixel Experience Custom ROM. I am very happy with the ROM except that I am not able to use Blackberry Work app. Other banking apps are working fine.
Yesterday I decided to update to MIUI, I'll see what happens with ARB when I get to it, and I must say I am impressed! @preetam.id I believe it has to do with Blackberry Servers, not Magisk Hide feature, though I haven't used it for a couple of years now and don't what changes RIM has introduced.

Since you updated you can no longer go back to the stock ROM your device came with. You do realize this right? What you will have to do from here is stay on ARB4 and unlock your device from here.
Did you proceed with the unlocking for your device? I too just got my device yesterday and do not want to risk bricking. I don't see an option for bonding the account to the device in developer options.

I ended spending a fair amount of time chasing down a working root method, in the interest of saving time for anyone else who is looking I wanted to post the steps I took.
1.) Settings > Factory Settings > Enter Password: *#hct#root#
2.) Install Kingo Root: https://root-apk.kingoapp.com/kingoroot-download.htm
3.) Install SuperSU
3.) Install SuperSU Me: https://sites.google.com/site/androidxdacom/file/supersu-me-v6.7.apk?attredirects=0
Device will reboot, you'll want to update the SSU binary, and you'll be good to go.

I have the double din 7 inch in my wrx, finding a proper trim kit that fit around the unit for me was tricky.. as they are a few mm bigger side to side and up an down that standard double dins. But was able to finally find one that was seamless for the wrx. Personally love mine. The pioneers and alpine are getting better but still think my joying is superior.. that's just my opinions.

I've got an MTCD in the mail and am trying to figure out the best way to take control over it.
That part about "kingo root" is scary as all hell. Who knows what its doing! And despite replacing it later on with "supersu" (which is not much less frightening, since it too is closed source), that is no guarantee that you are removing all remnants of it.
I suggest that this is not a good process to follow.
From what I understand, the recovery on these devices does NOT enforce signed updates. That means that the proper way to install something like this, is to inject it directly into an update. Just skip the exploit step altogether.
/////CANCEL QUESTION: One question I have though; what does the factory settings password actually do?//////
Answer: This turns on root. The silly things comes WITH ROOT ALREADY AVAILABLE!
Its actually better to NOT install any kind of root (kingoroot or supersu), since its already there, just blocked from the android side. This is more secure than leaving the device open to potential exploit, and gives you an avenue to go in and mess with things.
I
I am attempting this method and followed your instructions. I got a message that said adb root and I installed king root and my device rebooted. Super SU says my device is not rooted and Super-Sume gets stuck at "Preparing environment please wait..."
Can I get help?
Anyone know if it is possible to install TWRP? Anyone tried?
Well mine worked fine, then supersu app disappeared and reboot, now I'm stuck with bootloop and can't get into recovery!! Help! RK3188 800*480 MTCD.

Hi guys, I was able to fix my HU which was completely munted by following this thread.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/an...lopment/rom-malaysk-roms-mtcd-device-t3385309
I used the SD tool to create a boot card, then got the error which is shown in the thread then followed the next page which tells you to use the SD card and a USB thumb drive with the update file on it.
When the error shows up you eject the SD card and the system goes to recovery. Use the install from USB and clear all function and it does its thing.
The joying screen showed up for some time (about 5-10mins) but after booted to system and I'm in business again.
Don't follow my instructions here this is just a brief explanation of what I did, use the link above and try all steps and follow carefully.
Attached photo of the error screen I had in recovery FYI.
Please note this was after I used root method of factory settings code, king root and super su and I did have root access/ the binaries updated etc etc, so don't be scared to try as you can recover your system.
Also the firmware I used was the latest 5.1.1 from Joying website.
My unit is: RK3188 (800*480) MTCD which shipped in December 2016 with android 5.1.1.

What is this How-to for:
In our Telegram-group, I've seen quite some questions on what to do to unlock a Redmi 5 Plus.
There are a few different states a phone can be in when you receive it, such as 'Fake' roms, China stable, China DEV and so on. Below we'll try and make sense of it al and explain what is the best way of getting about unlocking your phone.
Update: With the release of the global Development rom, some people have successfully unlocked their device without having to perform the testpoint method. The rom can be found here:
http://bigota.d.miui.com/8.3.15/miui_HM5PlusGlobal_8.3.15_e69c117bf5_7.1.zip
After installing global development, please start unlocking by beginning at step 1 below, but skipping step 2!
Step 1: (needed for everyone who wants to unlock their phone, regardless):
1: Goto: http://en.miui.com/unlock/ and follow the steps there to apply for unlocking:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
This requires creating a MIUI forum account and entering a mobile number on which you will receive your approval. This number does NOT need to be the number you are going to use on your Redmi 5 Plus. As long as you create a MI account and hang on to that, you're good.
Getting the approval might take a while. The best way to check if your approval has been passed is to regularly revisit http://en.miui.com/unlock/ (while logged in with your forum account) until the page changes on opening to one that allows you to download the unlock client app:
This is it for this part for now.
Step 2: Knowing what ROM you are on and taking the steps to get to the right one if needed:
Basically, the following 'states' are possible:
China Stable Rom
Official Global Stable
'Fake' Global, locked bootloader
'Fake' Global, Unlocked bootloader; If you are part of these happy few, go directly to step 4.
For the first 3 options you will need to flash to the China dev rom: Which can be found here: http://bigota.d.miui.com/8.2.1/vince_images_8.2.1_20180201.0000.00_7.1_cn_bd9ee1a88a.tgz
This needs to be done via the so called 'Test point method', and it is the only way to do it (as of now).
Information on how to do this you can find it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IVG3Ip6UPGE.
After this, you are ready for the next step.
Step 3: Binding account and unlocking:
Note: If you have problems binding your account on step 1, use PlexVPN, setting the connection to a China location, or use the attached APK vpn service (in.invpn_2017-08-15.apk).
1: After you’ve applied and received unlock permission from MIUI you can use the account to sign into your Mi-Account on your phone.
First though, we need to establish if you need to do additional steps, so hold on to this for now.
2: Enable “Developer options” on your device by tapping few times on MIUI version.
3: Go to “Developer options” and enable “OEM Unlocking”, then go to “Mi Unlock Status” and tap on “Add account and device”.
4: Download and install the latest version of MiFlashUnlock from this page and install it on your pc (unlocking with MiUnlock 1.x version won’t work).
5. Install MiFlashUnlock, open it and press “Agree” button, sign into your Mi-account.
6: Turn off your phone completely and start it in fastboot mode. Press “Power” and “Volume Down” buttons at the same time until fastboot logo appear on the screen.
Connect your phone to PC in fastboot mode and press “Unlock” button.
7: And now this is where it gets a bit silly. You most likely will be confronted with a wait time between 72 and 360 hours. There is currently no way around this and you have to sit it out.
Once the time has passed, you can unlock your phone and are ready to flash TWRP and be a happy camper.
EDIT: There is a way around the 360 hour wait. Check this post: https://forum.xda-developers.com/re...ageos-15-1-t3780298/post76304194#post76304194
Step 4: Flash TWRP
See this topic on how to do this: https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/development/-t3727162.

Yeah no way around it, the annoying part is that I already had a Xiaomi account that I used for unlocking other phones but apparently now you can't log in with a phone number anymore so the account is lost. See y'all in 2 weeks.
And china stable doesn't allow to unlock, neither?
I thought the problem was only in global roms...

RESOLVED IN POST#12
This is the following message I get when I try to unlock my phone
yes, I have done the necessary steps like usb debugging, oem unlocking and adding the Mi account using cellular, yet for some reason I keep getting this error.
I have tried the original cable, a third party one, an amd machine, an intel machine, old and latest versions (at the time of writing) of mi unlock tool, and of course I have the drivers (or else deice won't recognize in the first place.
I have debloated my phone but not to the extreme using adb tools as to not interfere with the Mi services, I only just got rid of things like pubg and other apps you can delete from the phone itself (with the exception of youtube, I used adb to remove it to replace it with ReVanced).
I have been trying this for days, and I get this exact same error regardless, even after adding my mi account in dev options so many times! Can anyone else fiure out what it could be?
I have posted the logs
Try to:
1.- log out for account from phone
2.- log in again and check the permissions,
3.- go to Xiaomi cloud and click find device
4.- return to unlock status and unlock again
or factory reset
or create a new account

Unlocking bootloader will factory reset phone anyways.
I'd do it before and try to unlock right after without doing any debugging in between.

mind if you elaborate on what "check the permissions" means? I will try that though, thank you
Ignore it, what is important, the location, also check the security of the account, emergency email.
These are the Xiaomi unlock bootloader steps from the lineageos website
Create a Mi account on Xiaomi’s website. Beware that one account is only allowed to unlock one unique device every 30 days.
Add a phone number to your Mi account.
Insert a SIM into your phone.
Enable developer options in Settings > About Phone by repeatedly tapping MIUI Version.
Link the device to your Mi account in Settings > Additional settings > Developer options > Mi Unlock status.
Download the Mi Unlock app (Windows is required to run the app).
Run the Mi Unlock app and follow the instructions provided by the app. It may tell you that you have to wait up to 30 days. If it does so, please wait the quoted amount of time before continuing to the next step!
After device and Mi account are successfully verified, the bootloader should be unlocked.

Like fully delete my account and all the data? because I have like 10 years of data synced :/
and what's super weird is that I used my old account to unlock a poco X3 pro back in 2021 but it didn't work now in 2023
but a new account with the same phone did work
I must add that when I made the new account I DID NOT ADD THE NUMBER IMMEDIATELY
I added the number when it asked me to, when adding the device to the mi account before going to fastboot

Hi all, I am new to rooting and don't know nothing about root, I want to root my device and don't want to install custom roms, I just want to root my MUi ROM through easy process.. Also If I failed to install rooting process, Is there a way to restore or backup ROM settings so that everything goes to normal as the way they were before.
Need seniors guide how to install by step by step and which things to check before installing MUI rooted ROM like ROM versions etc and compatibility
If there is any youtube tutorial please share link with me for my global version.

1st things first, you need to unlock your bootloader before you can root anything. Doing this will delete everything and factory reset device. Don't think, not being rooted, there's anyway to effectively backup app data and device settings.
i'll have a look in a bit, but have search in this forum for how to root miui or root stock rom
ok, so like i mentioned before, you have to unlock your bootloader. My Pad 5 is already unlocked and has been for a long time, i don't currently have any other devices running miui, so i'm only suggesting what to from memory. Please read up before doing anything drastic!!
1. Sign in to your Xiaomi account on the phone if you aren't already.
2. Enable OEM unlock in settings, tap on build MIUI version 7 times to enable developer options. Go to developer options in settings and enable USB debugging and OEM unlocking.
3. Go here and download + install mi unlock tool. Follow instructions on that page for further info.
While you wait for the bootloader to be unlocked (which WILL ERASE the device when you do) - takes up to 7 days for unlock to be granted by Xiaomi - have a read of the root guide thread you have posted your other post in. Read that guide thoroughly and follow it to the letter. Also, here's a Youtube video that i searched for you.
I know it's hard in the begining not to ask a ton of questions but do read AS MUCH AS AS POSSIBLE and use the search function before posting questions...
Good luck

Also if I root my device, is there a way to unroot my device and make it like normal?
xiaomi devices have code names that the general public aren't usually aware of. Pad 5 is called Nabu. Poco F3 is Alioth etc etc.
Yes. you root it by flashing a magisk patched boot img, then unroot by flashing an unrooted boot img (and uninstall root apps/modules etc

But when I restarted my tablet , My account was logged in to MUI Account. Is there any problem or should I check after 7 days

With a Stock ROM you will need to root the phone and use Magisk modules for the device to be certified.
what purpose does it serve?

If the play store is not certified, no Netflix, etc. and the banking apps do not work.
This is due to the unlocked bootloader on a stock rom.
ok I am now on MIUI EEA.
Flash ok..
Very thanks!
I installed EEA. Have hard time to sign in to google in the beginning...but I found way around...

Hi there, i've just got my CN rom 13 ultra but can't proceed with unlock and flash because of certain issues.
1) I can't use the latest Miunlock version because it gets detected as a virus by McAfee. The version i'm currently on is 6.5.224.28, is that sufficient for 13 ultra?
2) On Miflash i'm told to install certain things, how do i find them for download? I could click on continue but i don't know if it'd work properly nor would i like to risk bricking my new phone due to some unforeseen errors.

Also, has anybody tested out the camera system? Mine seems to use the same lens for 1x 3.2x and 5x zoom, no idea if it's a CN rom thing....
EDIT: unchecking "auto adjust lens" fixed that

Correct the path.
For the error create an empty TXT file of the same name.
Thanks, i opened the newest MiFlash without issue. I have a mi account tied to my current xiaomi phone, should i continue to register a new account, which will remove the previous one? Will that render my current phone unusable?

Why use the other account (explanations)?
I'm not sure, but i probably used the same email to either attempt to flash another phone or for my current phone, i can't remember which, as i am using now to log into MiUnlock.
what would happen if i proceed, will i lose ability to use any of my current phones?

The answer is indicated in the screenshot.
Not exactly, it says i won't be able to access the account, not unable to use the phone itself. Now i can't remember if a xiaomi account needs to exist and be tied with a phone for it to be fully usable
