Hi all, I was just wondering how Nova Launcher runs and looks on the S4?
I use it on my S9+ to get 7 x 7 rows of icons etc, as everytime I see the S4 I keep thinking there is so much wasted space on the big screen. So is it possible anyone out there is using it and can post a picture of their home screen with more icons etc on it?
It may not be what you looking for as I like to keep it clean but here are my screenshots
And app drawer
Looks fine, but I cannot get the dock at the bottom of the screen in landscape mode.
Answer Nova :" Hello,
That's all determined by your screen resolution and screen DPI. That's not something a launcher can control at all"
And just having more docking pages was what I like about Nova.
Dock on the right is unhandy. You easily touch it by accident.
I use the S4 mostly in landscape. Only apps that @#!%*##! force me portrait, let me no choice.
s2 and s3 never gave me problems.

So you have the docking at the bottom in landscape ?
Wrong settings in my case?
I actually like that the dock shows on the side in portrait mode. It means there is more vertical space so I set my grid size to 7x7. Ive just started setting up my home screen but I like the feel with Nova so far

Thanks everyone for the replies, its good to see that lots of that otherwise wasted space with the massive Touchwiz UI can be put to better use when using Nova Launcher

You need to change screen zoom in display settings for that. Mine is set to smallest available.
Yesss, that did it.
The smallest zoom it will be!
I love NOVA again!
Thanks.

P.s. now many more applications work correct, like the Dutch Telegraaf. It used to start in portrait first.. so zoom to minimize it should be.
I just got rid of the dock and but Row of icons along the bottom. Making the dpi smaller does work but it also messes with the play store
how?
found out thatt with minim zoom my dutch newspaper nicely opens in ladscape, before it was portrait

Hi, what is screen zoom? Is it screen resolution?
It's kind of like Windows scaling, nothing to do with resolution.

I am attempting to accomplish a theme much like what the Dell Streak guys are doing here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=899879).
While our screens are not 5", like the Streaks, we can get roughly the same viewing size with the "LCD Density Changer" app. The app just shrinks everything, so it isn't to bad with a younger set of eyes.
If this theme was set up on our phones, then the wallpaper and Icon placement would be distorted as it were cycled through orientations.
So my question/request for an app is something to lock your home screen orientation into landscape. ADW launcher is capable of this!! However, I purchased Launcher Pro Plus, and I prefer this launcher.
All the apps out currently only lock portrait (by turning off auto-rotation). And the only Google searches I can find are a few pointing to an app that fools the phone into thinking the slide out keyboard is open. That app only works on a device that has a physical pull out keyboard.
Thanks in advance

When you set a wallpaper, it only shows a top part of the actual part you set while in landscape mode. I need a wallpaper that has a cool design, but will look right in landscape. So i guess its like this: A picture that has the part i want to cover the whole screen at the top, and the rest blank/empty. I need it to have a bar at the bottom of the picture part that is slightly different than the colors of the picture(see windows 7 taskbar). Im asking here because you guys know how this phone works. Also, the pic is only going to be used with one homescreen, so it has to fit. Sorry for the pic thats attached, not too good with pc's, but its a good example of what i mean. Im using adw with 8 columns by 6 rows, and the bar just needs to be under the bottom row. A cool design for the picture will do.
If the image is a .png it should scale correctly in Landscape.

That's good to know, but I'm no good at picture editing or else i'd do it myself. Lol

Available on Play.
This is an small app that lets you crop an image freely when trying to set the wallpaper or lock screen background.
In the Jelly Bean stock and stock-based ROMs, is not possible to properly set the home and lock screen wallpapers, due to a nice new feature of keeping the crop box aspect fixed to a square, but the area to be cropped is a smaller rectangle.
When trying to set the lock screen wallpaper with a portrait image, the always squared crop box touches the lateral borders of the image, forcing you to select a much smaller area -possibly scaling the picture-, and thus leaving us in a less than optimal situation, unhappy with our powerful pocket computer that could do much better with such a trivial task.
This lazily done app comes as an option when you try to set a wallpaper, and just calls the stock Gallery app with a crop action without the aspectX and aspectY parameters that lock the aspect of the crop box.
Note: This app needs the stock Gallery or Note 2 Gallery.
UPDATE:
2013/16/22 [v1.51]
- Fixed character encoding error in image paths.
- Other minor fixes.
2013/06/09 [v1.5]
- Prevents hiding part of wallpaper behind status bar.
- Lock screen wallpaper can be cropped to any size.
- Can work with AOSP's Gallery.
- Launcher icon with settings for some of the above features.
- Fixed screen rotation bugs.
If wallpaper scrolling is enabled, it's better to select an squared area or wider, or else you will see black bars to the sides or a scaled image. This version lets you choose what happens in that case.
2013/05/06
- Works with Quickpic.
- Better lockscreen wallpaper size (checks status bar height).
- Home screen wallpaper maximum width is 960; minimum is 800.
- Checks if lockscreen wallpaper is writable. If not, S2 Gallery handles it.
2013/05/05
- Handles all lock screen wallpaper process. Works on Note 2 Gallery.
MAY NEED ROOT. This works by saving the image directly to the Gallery data folder.
- Lock screen crop box is fixed to match the screen.
- No lateral black bars in home screen.
- Signed. You must uninstall the previous version before trying to install this one.
- Kick ass icon.
2013/04/23
- Processes and sets Home wallpaper to prevent zooming.
- Checks whether the Gallery activity exists.
Tested with the Gallery Note 2 and seems to be doing OK. However, when setting lock screen, the cropping rectangle has locked aspect, but still it lets you crop any image properly.
Please point any fault you find, I'll try to find time to work on them. And all suggestions are welcome.
Works great. Cheers.

I'm sorry, I have only tested this in Neat Rom. It must work on WanamLite as well. The app requires the stock gallery apk (SecGallery2.apk, package name com.sec.android.gallery3d). I'll make it check for some possible errors.
I m using Note2gallery and this app is not working
Handy.....thanks

There's still some problems: Sometimes the lock screen BG will be stretched, and the home screen will be zoomed if you try to select an area close to the sides of the image. But mostly works great for the lock screen.

I made some updates. Hope it's fixed for those who where having problems.
Ugh...another Android device and more confusion about setting full screen wallpapers.
When I try to set a wallpaper - even with the correct resolution - it forces me to crop it. I used "wallpaper wizardri" for it in the past but it doesn't seem to work on the Note. So, what do I have to do to set the wallpaper I want to take up the whole device?
Thanks

Pictures sized at 1280x1280 do not require cropping/adjusting, the cropping windows that appears is optional, in case user wanted to choose oat of the image.
PS. The thread should probably be in Q&A

Not seeing it... Whether I try from the browser or the gallery, when I select set as wallpaper it takes me to the crop screen - if I hit cancel, it cancels the operation.

Could be that i misunderstood the question, but when setting wallpaper you choose picture first, then the cropping window appears (check attached screenshot) and when you press"Done" your choice is accepted and wallpaper is set

But isn't that image cropping off the corners? I think my issue might be that I have scrolling disabled. What would the resolution be for that?

if you mean the 4 sqaure parts at the edges, then yes, those are lost, but it's anaviodable as the wallpaper gets fitted both for portarait and landscape modes (the two rectangles on my previous screenshot).
If you have 1280x800 image, then it'll fit nicely inside the vertical cropping rectangle, but in the landscape mode only the middle part of the image will be utilized.

That makes no sense to me. The stock wallpapers are 1280x1280 and fit just fine. I've had numerous Android devices and I've got this working on all of them (mainly through the use of third party apps). My HTC One can do it right off the bat. I hate to bring the iPad into the equation - but that's another device that does it just fine.

You are right, I and messed up my previous post by being imprecise.
The situation I described applies only to lockscreen and launchers not supporting scrollable wallpapers (if such still exist).
Now the launcher wallpaper: for 1280x1280 images nothing will get cropped - the vertical rectangle just shows which part of the image will be on the home screen, remaining parts will be used for adjacent screens. If your image is smaller or not square, then you need the cropping window to adjust the image to your taste.
My apologies, can't explain it better than this.

Not your fault - we're just getting jumbled and things are getting lots in translation... I just want this to work, ugh! Even when they crop them - and technically I'm okay with that - they morph the images!

Your remark on morphing made me check again. Normally i have irregular wallpapers, with no easily identifiable parts, so to be sure I just made a screenshot and then set it as home wallpaper.
Adjusting mechanics works as it should, with the rectangles, squares etc., but to my surprise after adjustments the image gets vertically cropped, my guess is to some 960 pixels height. This would explain the morphing, but the secondary cropping is surely a bug.
PS. I attached two images:
- one is screenshot of this thread in xda app - looks normal
- second is screenshot of the first image set a home wallpaper - notice vertical cropping
Thanks for all your help man. I've been playing around with a download of the stock wallpaper and getting a feel for the cropping. For now I'm just going to suck it up and stick with texture wallpaper so it's not an issue. I'll keep trying...
Hi guys! So here's the deal. When I try to set a wallpaper from my gallery I have basically two choices.
1. It fits in landscape but gets chopped off top and bottom in portrait.
2. It fits in portrait but is very zoomed in in landscape.
I want it to be full picture in landscape without zooming but also completely fill in portrait. I know it's possible because the stock wallpaper behave exactly how I imagine it. Why not my own pictures? Is there an app for that?
Simple live wallpaper. Download it and problem solved. You should search for a solution first before posting a new topic. Good luck
