Hi guys I have a sm-t800 and the official rom is old and outdated , what's the best Rom to use to bring some more security and speed to the tablet ? And maybe get rid of all the bloatware from Samsung ? Any recommendations ?
It seems like you don't have a whole lot of choices. There is the stock MM 6.0.1 ROM or LineageOS. In my experience, LineageOS ROMs tended to have more visible bugs and hardware support issues, but then I haven't touched LineageOS ROMs for more than a year. You can certainly try both. The stock ROM has lots of bloatware. While you can't delete a lot of the apps, you can at very least try to disable almost all of the superfluous apps that come with the Samsung ROM. This improves the performance (not just CPU, but also battery) and frees up the valuable storage space.
Thanks Akopps I have installed LineageOS and it's nicer without all the Google spy software and Samsung bloatware, installed Aptoide on it for apps and works ok so far. The only thing that seems to be an issue so far is the fingerprint reader
FP Reader never worked for me satisfactory, regardless what ROM. I would also recommend:
[ROM] [AOSP] [7.1.1] [OFFICIAL] LiquidDeathOS - SM-T800 with deathly adiutor + tools on board, in case you are into tweaking. it is the best combination of function+lightweight in my eyes.
LineageOS has been working well for me on my ST-800

I really like this OS and until last week, I've had no issues. I started getting a flashing red board around my screen and response of my bluetooth keyboard has been slow. I ran the latest update but it is still happening. I'm going to check in with LineageOS to see if there is a fix.
I success to root, install lineage14 and the newest gapps on my 2 old "samsung TAB S" several times.
I can't test the auto-update now due to my lineage is brand new (Feb 2020). If there is any news I will update the document.
Here is my doc/screendump if any interest.

I am using Galaxy Tab S SM-T700. Just checked and I am on 6.0.1. Would I get more speed/battery efficiency if I were to flash to nougat? I am using this tablet mainly for surfing/navigating/ebooks and watching videos, not so much on gaming. Can someone recommend any good stable release of nougat for me to flash as well? Thanks in advance!
You can give the LineageOS 14 a try now that there is an official T700 version. It's not like you have to lose anything. Just install TWRP, backup your current ROM to SD card and then flash the LineageOS and a gapps zip. If you don't like it, you can always restore the Marshmallow ROM with your data.
I don't have experience with LineageOS on the Tab S (it has ok battery life running 6.0.1, now that I disabled most standby processing unless it's plugged into charger), but the Oneplus One port of LineageOS is fast and good enough to be my daily ROM on that phone. OPO had the same problem since Marshmallow was their final release. If you're running out of storage space, perhaps LineageOS will help because its /system partition on my phone is something like 1.2GB, which is 1GB smaller than the Touchwiz /system on the tablet. On the downside, some ecommerce and streaming apps will stop working on LineageOS. Netflix no longer shows up in the play store but you can download the apk manually while Uverse app stops working flat out.

After a few months with Lineage 14, I just went back to stock MM on my T800. Everything is running smoothly, and unless something really great and stable comes along, I'll probably stay stock with root and TWRP. The only real advantage for me on Lineage was less memory used. By not re-installing loads of apps that I really wasn't using, leaves me with enough memory that will suffice. I use package disabler pro to stop bloat running. I've had this tablet for over 3 years, put in a new battery this year and I'm OK with MM until I retire it.
Sent from my SM-T800 using XDA-Developers Legacy app
linage builds have no fingerprint scanner, if that's important to you.
On most devices aosp/cm is a definate step up, on the tab s maybe not so cut and dried. Devs have to deal with so much crud introduced by Samsung , its a wonder that custom firmware exists for Samsung devices at all, hence there will always be some bugs.
The best in my opinion for this device is a stripped stock MM ( Fenris for me) , which I have been running for a while.

What is the snapchat isdue?
I'm using an old cm11 4.4.4 build that has been rock solid, I was also getting random reboots on just about everything. I had to install an old chrome browser apk, and an older voxer. Some apps won't work with the kitkat roms, but I don't care, this rom rocks and hasn't had a single bug.

the front camera looks compressed or something
You can do nothing about it. It's a known problem with CM/Lineage on all phones degrading camera quality.
Which ROM would you recommend for daily use? That is not Slim6 because that is what I currently have and has several errors.

I recommend Mokee it's the most up to date one and it's good for daily use. Or u can find an unofficial lineage thread here in this forum.

That's what i said in the first reply, most of these roms are based on lineage and they have the same camera problem which lineage degrade. If you want the camera quality back you have to go back to stock 4.4.2.

There is a ROM that worked perfectly, the camera was fine, it is very fluid and above it is super attractive to the eye and very customizable, that ROM is MiUi 7. But there is a problem, that when it comes to start it takes a lot to do it . And it is not that bootloop because the ROM if it starts, only if I turn off the phone for any reason to turn it takes 5 to 10 minutes.
Do you have any idea of this?

For me the problem is the kernel because I installed another kernel and the problem was solved but when turning it on you could use the ROM but it had some graphic faults like that the screen was blinking, the icons were glitched, it worked fine even though it was difficult to use , but the ROM started well. Then I'm looking for AOSP kernels for android 4.4 to see which gives solution to the problem

I realize this is an earlier post, but thought I'd comment anyway! I'm not sure how many of us are out there, tinkering around with the 8+ year old Samsung Galaxy S3 i747 . While I am a newbie, I have enjoyed flashing Custom ROM's , from CyanogenMod, thru various versions of Lineage, and now CrDroid. The newest O/S that I flashed is CrDroid ( based on Android 8 ). Runs great. Stable. Long battery life.
I have always used ODIN to INSTALL a 'recovery' system such as TWRP ( which is a .Tar file )
After TWRP is installed ( using ODIN ) I unplug phone from my computer. Then boot into TWRP recovery ( holding down the three buttons ). I do a clean install (flash) of the newest O/S that I can find ( Android 4.4 is really old ). It is that .Zip file that I flash, then reboot the phone. Always works for me. Eventually I learned how to back up all my contacts, SMS, logs, photos, etc.
BTW I am totally free of Google; no Google Play Store, no Google Pay, no Google Framework, no Gapps, no Google spyware, no Google bloatware, no Google tracking etc.
I download all my apps as APK's which are readily available on the Net ( Google them . . . just kidding! ).
My older Samsung S3 i747 was a 'd2att' originally locked to Rogers, in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Then switched over to MTS (Manitoba Telephone System). Now running on Bell Canada. My replacement is also a Samsung S3 i747, originally running T-Mobile in Arizona, now running on Bell Canada.
These are damn fine phones.

What ROM are you running on your S3 now? I flashed lineage 14.1 on to mine but it wont accept incoming calls. I really just need a ROM that will work for calls but I'm having trouble finding any to download, the links are either dead or all I can find is for the i9300 variant.

I am running CrDroid. Best ROM I've had yet. Ran LIneage 14.1 and it was good, but little problems such as: phone not ringing, camera problem.
I always go the extra mile & clean flash. Lately I've made the effort to back things up! Saves a lot of headache. Wish I would've learned that earlier.

Thanks but I don't see a ROM for the S3 i747 variant on CrDroid's site. Only one for the S3 Neo and I see references elsewhere to CrDroid on the i9300 which I think is the European model? But not seeing one for the d2att/d2lte version we have in Canada.
I did install Meeko on it last night which at least does accept incoming calls so that's an improvement over Lineage already.
Are you referring to the CrDroid website https://crdroid.net/ ?
There are versions for Android 8 (Oreo) & newer.
I'm pretty sure that Lineage 14.1 is Android 7 (Nougat)
Have a look at the XDA site of alexenferman : https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3-att/rom-crdroid-3-8-9-custom-rom-7-1-2-t4021787
See the part which reads:
Releases
Latest Version: V.3 2020-01-02 FINAL
https://drive.google.com/open?id=1DW...T4ZNZieMwIUbAX
Then I downloaded the file: crDroidAndroid-7.1.2-20200102-d2att-v3.8.9.zip
While it says "d2att" I installed it on my Samsung Galaxy S3 (Rogers version) anyway. Works great.
I also installed on my Samsung Galaxy S3 (Tmobile version) T999. Also works great.
I did not install any Gapps

This is an unofficial build, on the CrDroid website, they only put the official ones, approved by them. To make official builds, you must constantly update it and have the latest version. I clearly don't have all the resources and knowledge. Anyone can compile a ROM for their device.
So if it says "Unofficial", it's not part of the Custom ROM website
And yes, you can use this build with the Canadian i747m/d2can

Hi,
I have an old Galaxy Note N5110 lying around and would like to revive it. What is the best ROM currently available? Currently it has Lineage 14.1 (I think...) installed.
Main Usage:
- reading and annotating PDF files
- use Mendeley to access my article database
- take notes manually and make plots/drawings
- internet access
I don't care about gaming , social networks or photos.
Cheers
Jorge

Can confirm. I also have a Note 8 Tablet (N5100) and have flashed Lineagos 14.1 (many times).
There's another thread where someone was trying to flash Lineagos 16 onto the N5100/N5110, but can't seem to find it.
Will update if I find it.
Rr 585 works very well. My son is using it for videos and games. Very stable.

I'm interested what battery and screen time are you getting with custom roms? I have LOS 14.1 and I'm getting only about an hour of screen time with a new battery.
That's got to be a bad battery then. I regularly get a couple hours, depending on usage. Youtube not so much, reading e-books... dunno, maybe 5?
I have installed LineageOS 14.1 to this tablet and the battery usage is average to the used by the ancient Kitkat. The issue with LineageOS is about unlocking the tablet, the proccess is too laggy and you have to retry many times to unlock it. I forgot: many gestures are lost with LineageOS, for instance, to pause the youtube videos putting your hand over the screen, to take screenshots with the SPen...
Currently LineageOS allows to update the OS version to 16 (I think it is Android 9) but you have to compile it and to try to update the firmware.
Hello,
I have a samsung galaxy note 8.0 model GT-5110 tablet and I would like to update it to android 11, I just don't know what procedure to do, what characteristics the device has to meet or if I have to download a Rom.
I would like to know what you recommend me to do. Thank you very much
What's the best stable ROM for Samsung Galaxy Note 8 tablet N5110 in 2022-23? Kindly guide how to update. My device is running on Kitkat since then, but I have used the device very seldom. Its almost brand new ()
I've loved my N7 2013 since I got it when it came out. It used to be unbelievably snappy, but at some point an OTA made it slow, then the next one even slower. I realised that the Facebook app kills the device so I took that off. Then I rooted the device and did a factory reset. It is less sluggish, but still a bit too slow for me.
If 6.0.1 stock, which I am running right now, is the culprit, which older stock should I go back to? I'd like to strike a balance between speed and going so far back in versions that the security risks and other trade-offs are too great.
I am prepared to also try a custom ROM but I would prefer using my tablet over fiddling with it so I'd like some advice as to which ROM (stock or otherwise) is most likely to speed up my beloved N7.
I highly recommend LineageOS 14.1. (Nougat) It was the last official version for N7 by LineageOS. Everything works on 14.1.... and it is super stable.
wileyc has an unofficial version of it. He is leaving the original build unchanged but is creating security updates almost weekly. Here is the link to his posting:

Thanks Tam, looks like a good contender. If one wants to regularly flash these updates for security, am I right in saying that each time the device is wiped, or can you avoid losing your configuration and apps? Is there a clever way to avoid a lot of hassle with backup/restore and reconfiguring your device each time?

Edit. Hi Lief, I mis-advised (hazzards of being a noob giving advice). You will actually have to do a clean install of lineage 14.1. Meaning that you will have to reinstall all of your apps and settings.... On a plus side there is virtually no bloat in Lineage 14.1, and there is something to be said for how well your N7 will run with a fresh install.
Sorry for the misinformation
Leif, You are correct. Nothing changes with your apps or configuration.
Just download the update/latest build to your device and install with TWRP. VOILA! Done. Pretty hassle free.

I can confirm that the answer is yes - LineageOS 14.1 on deb (LTE) does support video out via the USB port and a Slimport adapter.

is it better than official miui rom? I like eu rom but I mostly use google apps that's why I haven't moved yet!
i agree with @kennymaster. although i cant wait till the day i can get rid of MIUI, for the time being feel like i should still stick to the stock ROM considering the the issues. Havoc, RR had their share of users but still cant convince myself to jump the ship. little old now for this ROM hopping business maybe
Are their any changes in the last days/weeks? I'm also looking for a good working ROM. Mostly, i want to get rid of MIUI but in first, the most important is to get the most functions working without Bloatware and Ads.
After many years with Xiaomi phones and custom ROM's I have reverted to stock MIUI ROM - debloated with ....
XiaomiADBFastbootTools.jar
.... and find it the best compromise for battery life, optimisations, lack of bugs etc etc etc
Yeah thats what i done yesterday after the phone arrived -> i have set it up so minimal like it was possible, then debloated it but got after debloating maximal issues with camera, system freezes and unexpected restarts/shutdowns instead of just kill the mi browser, video and all that stuff

So to be sure, is it still a bit dodgy to even just debloat the device as yet?

Honestly im surprised as well. I bought this phone so early assuming the attention it would get (and i have a track record of pumping out ROMs for my devices but regardless. Im certain there will eventually be bug free builds its the lack of interest and probably with all the other crap going on in the world XDA in general has been kind of slow so on that hand i shouldn't be surprised. Regardless
Il dont mean to come across in a bragging way so excuse me if it comes across like that because i barely consider myself a dev lmao but all my past devices i had dozens of separate threads with at least weekly releases (daily was killing me lol) so i was ready to give our device the same treatment! I just didn't think they were going to raise the specs to what they are now for a PC that can compile the builds
I think that the best Note 9S ROM is the AOSiP port, at least the Curtana version which I am using. I went through four or five of them in a month, starting with Lineage, and had various and sundry issues. Tried going to Resurrection and stuck in a bootloop even. Went to AOSiP and it Just Worked™. Fast and bug free in my experience, too. Rooted with Magisk, extensions to tame the usual (battery life, charging limitation, etc.) and it's my daily driver now.
I'm using Extended, it's a good ROM, stable and with good battery life. It have miui camera and a lot of customisations.
It's my daily ROM.
I tested PE, Havoc, but the best is Extended.

I think its becouse you are trying to open files without third party applications installed. When you trying to open video, for exaple, OS will search the memory to find applications that can open this video, if it does not find it, it opens it via a default application which is MiVideo but it is not there because it has been uninstalled, OS does not know what to do next so it repeats the script and again and again and so on, this is why the phone freezes or resets, so to fix it you need to install e.g. VLC and give it permission when you first time run that app (NOPE for Localization always!xD)
TL;TR: If you remove an application that is pre-installed then you need to install an alternative for that application.
In the picture you can see what's left of the preinstalled apps on my phone (they can't be removed or are not 100% safe to remove or simply I use them) and I've never had freezes and other such problems.
PS: I removed preinstalled Game Turbo its "com.xiaomi.glgm" and I downloaded (apkpure, fdroid, aurora) and installed it manually because I was afraid that the pre-installed one uses cleanmaster which I removed.
PS2: sry for my english
Do I understand correct that no one is posting links to the Roms they us, cause these roms are not on XDA forum?
Than where to look?
Sincerely
Julian
I'm using secret technique called "Google Jutsu It" and I can't tell how to do it. But I can tell you BlissRom looks good too
