Signal problem - Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro Questions & Answers

I have a redmi note 5 pro with unlocked bootloader with anti 3 and there is signal disappearing issues where it goes from 99 to 0 I am on the RR latest build please instruct what to do as I have no idea about which firmware to flash as I'm scared of those anti rollback stuff...

I would ask the question in the RR thread. Could be an issue in the rom. It also doesn't mean you cannot make calls or constantly loose signal, maybe it's a glitch, but ask it there.

Call problems

I ordered my Mi Max 3 from TradingShenzhen and chose the option to have them install the xiaomi.eu ROM. It arrived with TWRP installed, an unlocked bootloader, and xiaomi.eu MIUI 10 v. 8.7.26 installed. I downloaded the most recent xiaomi.eu MIUI 10 ROM (v. 8.8.23) and flashed it in TWRP.
Everything on the phone is working fine except for a persistent problem with calls. Within about 40 seconds of being in a phone call (whether on the phone or through the car's bluetooth) the party on the other side complains that my voice has suddenly changed to being very "tinny" and "robotic" and that they can't understand me. I hear them fine. At all times my signal strength is excellent. Depending on where in the city I am I may be on LTE or LTE+ with four or five bars but the problem persists.
Does this sound like a firmware issue or did I get a bad phone?

Try this fix from @ice0901: Hey I fixed it. Found a post on a thread that will enable VoLTE on Xiaomi Phones. Apparently they disabled VoLTE starting with MiUi 9 due to lack of certifications in certain countries, the US being one of them. To activate it dial *#*#86583#*#*
Thank you for your note. I used the secret code and activated VoLTE, but the problem persists. I called my telecom this morning and a few seconds into the call with tech support the chap said: "your voice has become distorted - I can't hear you" and then he hung up! I was thinking about using fastboot to flash the China Stable and then reflash the xiaomi.eu to see if that clears up the problem, but I am concerned about the announcement that beginning with MIUI 10 v. 8.8.23 "anti-rollback" has been activated on the Mi Max 3 and that you will brick your device if you attempt to downgrade. I also read on the xiaomi.eu forums that xiaomi.eu "disables" the anti-rollback features of the China development ROMs they use. Any thoughts on how to proceed?

Happy to help! Sorry you're going through so much headache. I would suggest starting over as you mentioned and doing the following from @omer1919's instructions from his nitrogen rom thread:
"I suggest to start clean again by flashing 8.8.9 fastboot and then follow the full installation instructions on op post
Installation Instructions:
- Make sure your bootloader is unlocked!
- Boot to fastboot mode
- Format your data to make sure that the installation will be clear using the command: fastboot format userdata
- Flash TWRP Recovery
- Boot to TWRP recovery
- Mount all the possible partitions
- Wipe your data, cache,Internal storage, dalvik DONT WIPE SYSTEM OR YOU WILL BRICK YOUR DEVICE
- Using MTP or OTG copy the xiaomi.eu rom to your device
- Flash the Xiaomi.eu rom
- Wipe cache and dalvik
- Reboot"
Can you tell us what carrier you are using? I also bout from trading Shenzen with the xiaomi.eu rom installed and had call problems at first. First thing I did was follow the advice from this thread. Flash the chinese fastboot then flash the latest xiaomi.eu rom. Then I enable voLTE by typing *#*#86583#*#* into the browser and now my calls work great!
My carrier is Telus (Canada). I followed the advice in the thread you linked (flashed China stable, re-flashed TWRP, etc.) then flashed xiaomi.eu 8.8.23 and this time my call problems were even worse. When I went to dial anyone the phone app would simply say (failed to connect). So I then flashed xiaomi.eu 8.8.9 which other Mi Max 3 users have commented is trouble free, and so far I've been making calls for the past hour to different landlines and mobiles and no call problems. Perhaps there is a problem with 8.8.23, but it is odd that more people haven't had my problems using that version.
UPDATE:
I have now had several messages from other Mi Max 3 users that 8.8.23 caused serious call issues and that reverting to 8.8.9 fixed all their problems. I have now had two days trouble free after reverting to 8.8.9 so I will wait for other reports before considering today's release of 8.8.30 (if it isn't broken why fix it). Besides, MIUI 10 beta testing is now complete for several devices so Xiaomi has begun releasing China Stable MIUI 10 ROMs as of today. I downloaded and flashed the China Stable MIUI ROM for my Mi MIX today and it is working great (despite the odd annoying menu in Chinese). Can't wait for the developers at xiaomi.eu to release their version of the China Stable MIUI 10 ROMs. If the Mi MIX (an older device) has a China Stable MIUI 10 ROM it can't be long before our Mi Max 3s get the stable version as well.
For those of you with call problems using xiaomi.eu MIUI 10 v. 8.8.23 finally an explanation from xiaomi.eu as to the cause. Xiaomi.eu has always 'stripped' the anti-rollback feature from China developer ROMs that they translate into European languages. For the Mi Max 3, 8.8.23 was the first China ROM issued with arb, so in their release xiaomi.eu stripped this feature from the firmware of the ROM. After so many complaints they realized that beginning with 8.8.23 a new modem (required for calls) was imbedded with the anti-rollback feature of that ROM, and by stripping the arb from the firmware you wound up with a ROM that included a modem that didn't work. So on this week's release, 8.8.30, they have left the anti-rollback feature in place, thus allowing the new modem in the firmware to permit normal calls. So you basically have two choices if you stay with xiaomi.eu on this phone - stay on 8.8.9 which is stable and has no anti-rollback protection, or upgrade to 8.8.30 but thereafter brick your phone if you attempt to re-flash an older version.
...then someone try 8.8.30 ? Resolved call problem ?
Can I reverse my actual rom 8.8.23 to 8.8.9 ?

First: mi global store is not official Xiaomi store, just a chinese guy, which sell Xiaomi devices from China.
Second: they unlock bootloader unofficial, which is a big problem.
In other words, you got a chinese Mi Max 3, with unofficial unlock bootloader and fake ROM. Buy official global version and anything works perfect out of box.
Plz how can I get official global ROM for my mi max 3. I am in Nigeria and bought the unlocked global version of the phone last two months, August. I need Ur help, pls

Signal Issue

Hi, I just bought an Redmi Note 5 Pro 6/64 on AliExpress, and it came with an unlocked bootloader and what it seemed to the a global ROM of MIUI. I didn't update because of ARB, since I read that it could brick my device, and it was ARB 3 so I didn't wanted to flash anything official. So I installed TWRP and flashed custom ROMs, but it seems that on every ROM I install I get no signal detected, I have to manually toggle a lot the network toggles to MAYBE get my Redmi Note 5 Pro to pickup signal. I'm just wondering if anyone has gone through this and how did you fixed it? I don't really want to flash the official global ROM to get it fixed properly. Thanks.

What version of MIUI are you on? You can check the version and flash the firmware only for that version. That should, in theory, fix any signal issue you got.

Right now I'm on Masik X 1.0, but it also happens in every aosp based ROM.

yes, because firmware isn't rom dependant. Like i've said, check if you're on ARB4 or 3 and flash a firmware depending on the result (be very careful).

is android 10 god enough to update from android 9 yet?

Hello, I have been running a rooted mi a2 lite 10.0.9 for a while. I'm wondering if android 10 on mi a2 lite is good enough to upgrade to after months of its release. My current set up flashes a black screen from time to time when im in video calls in whatsapp or snapchat. I want to be stock, if i choose to upgrade i will keep the device stock(no root, no magisk, no custom kernel) , but ive heard so many problems with Android 10 that im not sure if its worth it.

There are still a tone of bugs and stability issues to be fixed, you can find more info here and here, I kinda' gave up on this device and don't use it as "smart" anymore. The problem is that most of those bugs are day1 bugs (for those who could update and didn't end up bricked). 10.0.9 isn't september update? I suggest you install the latest January Android9 patch and wait... I decided to be part of the Android 10 test and report bugs as fast as I can, so we can have them fixed... but it seems we're 6 months into Android 10 and nothing good came to this device.

Bugs Xiaomi.eu Miui 12 Android 11 version on global version of redmi note 9s

I strongly advice anybody to not update their redmi note 9s Curtana to the latest Xiaomi.EU version of Miui 12 based on Android 11.
I had several, quite nerve wrenching bugs even though I clean flashed.
-telephone: I could not be heard and the other side could not be heard on the phone. I guess this had something to do with root with magisk as I tried out my phone after flashing the update and it worked, but after having set up the phone with all apps and root, the said problem arose
- picture in picture mode got extremely buggy and the overlay sometimes hid the video box and made the whole screen unresponsive
- the phone feels quite slow
I downgraded to the last Miui 12 version based on Android 10 and all is fine again.
As I said if these things above are things you'd need often on your phone I'd suggest you not to update.
My phone is joyeuse global rn9pro and Im in the same boat.
How exactly did you downgrade without loss of data?

General OOS12 is the worst OOS ever

Basically, it just changed the user interface of Coloros 12 to OOS12, which is a completely different system compared to the previous OOS, and within half an hour after I updated to OOS12, I was back to OOS11. It's a complete waste of time
i agree oos12 is ****ing dogwater lmao
Is it possible to install ColorOS 12 over OOS12?
Why did Oneplus ruin my new oneplus 9 pro with this crap. Now I am back to rooting and Rom'ing, in order to be on android 12 that isn't a complete disaster?
(rhetorical question).
I thought 11 was a downgrade from 10, as well. But nothing like this. And I could get 10 for 9 pro, since it released with 11

what did you decide on? i feel like 12 is bad all around unless there is a pixel experience one or a A11 themed 12

Look for it here on the forum.
Any way to downgrade 12 to 11 ? Or i need to root and go for custom firmware?
Look here: https://forums.oneplus.com/threads/closed-downgrade-to-android-11.1533089/
Oxygen OS 12, or should I say Color OS? is a disaster. I went back to 11 after like 1 hour.

Use MSM tool to flash. The best way to go back clean.

I did last weekend but immediately went back to oos11 due to no working data.
I will wait untill we have a trick to record call like OOS11.

custom rom time
For what it's worth, OOS 11 did not give me the performance on the 5G Network that OOS 12 is giving me now.
OOS 11 I simply edited the policy restrictions in order to access the 5G cell towers and the download speeds were 50% slower than a comparable 5G capable handset (iPhone 13 pro max, Motorola Razr 5G, One+ 8T 5G). Even after unlocking the bootloader, rooting and reapplying the modified policy restriction.xml the One+ 9 Pro on the OOS 11 had poor 5G download speed.
OOS 12 with unlocked bootloader, rooted, and using 5G switch (playstore app) the 5G download speeds improved greatly. I would say they are 50% faster than same handset on OOS 11. I cannot access engineering mode and therefore modify the policy restriction.xml file like on OOS 11, but given the faster download speeds I'll take it for now. For what it's worth, 5G switch would not work on OOS 11.
Another great option that OOS 12 has is a separate volume level for Ringtone and Text Tone. I NEED to be able to hear my text tone alert (which is usually a very short burst) all the while keeping the volume of the ring tone down so that I can take my time to analyze who is calling without disturbing those around me. OOS 11 combines ring tone and text tone under one forced volume setting, which blows imho.
I personally don't find the interfaces of the two much different, and cannot say that I have noticed any real speed differences or battery consumption pros and cons. I do like the graphical design of OOS 11 over OOS 12, but that can be improved by using different Launchers if that is your thing.
Cheers
Buyer beware - the latest OTA for OOS 12 comes with (apparently) an encrypted-ish bootloader that refuses to boot patched/rooted kernels or recoveries. I learned this the hard way on my 8t. So if you want keep root, it's MSM and custom ROM time.

Nothing new and nothing to be worried about. You need to disable boot verification by flashing a blank Vbmeta.img, and after that everything works like it's out of the box.
