Every time I think about switchin to other aosp roms, to RR, lineage, or even android Pie, always stops me lack of original Mi Mix 2 camera app. I had posted one post about it before, but unfortunetely the only comment hasn't gave me a solution, because universal port just didnt work. Maybe someone found a way to get camera app working on AOSP?
I have the same exact problem, and made 2 posts about it and nobody answered me. Its weird. Someone ported over the mi mix 2 camera app to the mi6 so why cant we have it also??

Hi everyone,
So I'm thinking about switching from MIUI to a custom ROM, and I was wondering if it is possible to use the second camera with custom ROMs like Lineage or RR (or whatever ROM out there). I don't know much about camera protocols and as far as I know there is no standard one for dual cameras, so I don't know if just installing Xiaomi's camera on a custom ROM will take use of the second camera. (I don't even know if this precise camera app is installable from anything else than MIUI). Also, I've myself not encountered any camera app out there that can take advantage of the whyred dual camera.
Of course I can rely with some AI cameras for lens blur and portrait mode, but I don't know, I just don't like the concept of losing the utility of an hardware piece just because the software can't "afford" it.
Thank you for reading, guys.
Interesting question! And even more important, how is the quality compared to miui?
Have you tested it with open camera??

Mi A1 forum: https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-a1/themes/oreo-mia1-stock-rom-camera-app-custom-t3758543
It's reported working fine, except HDR. The feature is turned off by default, but don't take a photo with it being on or app will crash until you restart your device
PS. Please dive through the forums for answers, before opening a post.
Edit: can you guarantee, that your stock camera ain't just for show? I mean did you open it up and stick a multimeter to check?
Edit_2: pls don't try...dual camera are actually working, you'll notice a difference once you compare a stock MI camera app with GCam
And don't try sticking up a multimeter up your Mobile
You're Joking Right..

The phone in question is RN5 AI Dual camera, NOT Mi A1! Totally different phones. The AI comes with SD636 chipset, the Mi A1 with SD625 chipset. The ROMs are not compatible at all.

It is not a rom, he is telling you to flash.
But a Ported Mi A1 Camera app, that works across custom roms.
It will actually allow use of the Redmi Note 5 [WHYRED] dual cameras in manual mode of the app.
Also the AI in the device name, is used incorrectly by some sites. Not the official name or appendage for the device.
Edit: - Last time i checked, no one has ported the MIUI camera from RN5 yet.
This thread is aimed to be as simple as possible.
I found 2 apks that worked for me. I created this thread because I'm sick of scrolling through the comments on which one works, and which one doesn't. So, here it is.
*NOTES* All Pixel Gcam mods will have autofocus issues. These don't have any quality degradation from my testings.
1. @fu24 Pixel 2 Gcam v.5.2.025-Final - Everything works. But I recommend to use this only for the front camera.
https://f.celsoazevedo.com/file/gcamera/GoogleCamera_5.2.025-Final_fu24-17f.apk
2. @cstark27 Pixel 3 Gcam P3v10.1 - This is the best in terms of focus hunting, when taking pics, don't tap to focus. Let the app hunt for focus until it's clear. If it won't focus on the object, just switch between portrait and normal mode. Sometimes the pic comes out a bit soft. I'd recommend you to take multiple pics and select the clearest one. Thanks to @Sonudbm for mentioning this apk. The front camera still doesn't work.

I will update this thread whenever there's a better version(s).
Feel free to leave any comments.

Maybe this autofocus issue is device dependent. :/

Raw capture gives you vastly more detail than jpeg (or JPG), but with the cost of lower picture quality, it can be fixed by editing the photos. I'd recommend the 1st one, if you don't want all the flashy features. If you night sight mode as well, install the 2nd one along side.

Same here :/
Neither of these updates fix the focus issue with it endlessly refocussing. Does anyone know what the actual issue is with the Mi A1 and Pie? Is a Dev looking into this specifically. This is the only way it'll get fixed. Seems like no one knows it's an issue?
Sorry to say this, but both cameras have focus issues..
Does any one know Whether there is a 9.0 pie custom rom where no focus issue on GCam.
(i won't bother about green tint issue though)
I am still on 8.1 until we get something that works perfectly, do I need to unlock my bootloader and install the Camera 2 API again or that is not necessary?
Sorry to break it to all of you, but I really personally think that this autofocus issue is device dependent. I would recommend you to try random Gcam apks from that site (that's what I did). I think every device would have different apks that works for them.

Haters will say it's wrong!
Hello people!!
There is no GCAM Port of pixel 3 (the one with night mode) that fully works on PIE on MI A1. I have tested every recent version of every developer on the page of Celso Azevedo. In almost every version, all things work, except for portrait mode with front camera (green tint present when HDR enable) This is not what we want, because there is a huge difference between portrait with or without HDR.
The only one version that I find that it is working on portrait with HDR is one for pixel 2 (it hasn´t got night mode) from ARNOVA. The version is: gcam-5.1.018-Pixel2Mod-Arnova8G2-v8.3b1.apk. This is my actual camera now.
I hope some developer could accomplish the same but with pixel 3 gcam mod.
Greetings !!!!

Hi guys. İm using redmi note 7.
But i have some problems gcam. My app is dont working portrait mode.
After opening the application can not take photos in portrait mode. I press the shutter button but it doesn't take pictures. I am using the "eu rom 9.8.15" version. there was no such problem in old herds. I've tried almost all modes. "BSG, bulkin etc etc" Does anyone have this problem?
Sorry for translate.
Same problems happened with my phone as well. Running the same version as yours too, looks like the latest Xiaomi EU build is kinda buggy for Google Camera, so I moved to PE

Most of the times when you install a gcam port you have to make some changes at the settings of the app. I don't know if this is the case for this port also. But I guess this must be it. @sivansk could elaborate...
Why do you use Gcam when the Stock is amazing and have all that features and works without any problems..

There is no proper gcam development for mediatek chipset ,since it is a flagship chip we can expect it in future updates! And I will reply it with a better gcam with fully functional!

SO the wait is over guys as you all know our Beloved X2 pro has a Great Camera Hardware but not so great Software to back it up,
and GCAM is there but even in that the Aux cameras (such as Ultra Wide and telephoto) are not supported without root
UP UNTILL NOW
cause one of the GCAM mod developer WICHAYA have created a new GCAM MOD that supports AUX CAMERAS with all Devices without root,
just download it from this link
https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/f/changelog1311/
and than Apply attached Config to it. and voila You are ready to roll with GCAM without root and the results are just awesome,
i have not fiddled much with settings you can tweak as your test i am only enabling aux cameras in this Config.
There has been another Gcam for a long time that allows you to enable all the lenses of the x2 pro [emoji6][emoji106]

Create a folder with the name "GCam" in the internal memory of your phone, inside this one, create another folder named "Configs7" put the settings xml in that folder. Then go to your 7.3 GCam app open it and click twice in the black area around the "take picture" button you'll see the lod config mode.
