MIUI Based ROMs - Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro Questions & Answers

Hey guys, I've searched around but didn't really find anything except masik rom and Hellas rom. Are there any more? And there aren't official XDA threads right? So are there any forums or anything like that officially for the other miui based roms? Could anyone share the links of the same, or at least their opinion on which is the better miui based rom.
Thank you.

Search on Google for 4pda Redmond note 5

There are also xiaomi.eu, mi globe, miui pro(maybe my favourite but it is paid now so I don't use it anymore), miui.am. I think there is also miuiTR and miuiMS available. As fast as I know, that is all.

Wrong section.

I have a question, Masik Released the final version.. does it mean it's over?
If so.. is the team working on another ROM?

I translate it with chrome itself. There are some ROMs you won't find on XDA.
Masik and Hellas were there first. Some devs only put their work only on 4pda. I tired all. But masik is the best IMO

Okay thank you so much. Would you say masik is better than the stock miui? Also I had this doubt, is it possible to prevent encryption by miui? Does this ROM do that? Does any ROM do that?

Well it's hard to compare since my Note 5 Pro was Chinese and there for i never stook much time (except the 15 days wait to unlock) on it. Also on these 15 days i installed zero app.
How ever i can say that Masik is as smooth and has much better Battery Deep Sleep. Even with no app and GAAPS installed on stock chinese MIUI, it drain around 15 per cent over night, where om Masik with BlackBox Kernel it drain 1%.. That's very impressive and such a huge difference.
Also, it is more debloated, don't have the Xiaomi SIMCARD SYNC bug that the stock chinese MIUI had, i strong recommend you to try

I have only tried masik and mi globe(the second one only for a day). I don't have opinion on mi globe, but masik is very good. Good battery life, really snappy performance, and I think that devs have put a lot of work in it. It doesn't have as much features and customisation as miui pro has but it has a lot of under-the-hood work. Now I will try miui pro and will inform you about my opinion on it.

I would stick to Masik which i have been doing for a while. I have tried several other custom ROMs but the kind of stability that Masik offers is probably the best (purely my opinion and no offence meant to anyone). However Masik does not offer the kind of battery life like the other non-miui custom ROMS. I usually get about 2 days on a single charge with about 7hrs SOT. I managed to get about 10 hours on msm-extended. But still prefer Masik for its stability.
I am on masik 2.5 since it had better fonts and was based on the dev. The final version looked a little too plain jane

While I wait 72 hours - Help me decide with ROM to install

Ok, so I am waiting the frankly ridiculous 72 hours to be able to unlock my Mix 2. Help me fill the time with chat about which ROM I should install.
I would like a stock Android Oreo experience with no bells or whistles. Is there more than one option, or should I just go with Lineage 15.1?
If you like stock oreo with no bells or whistles: Definitely AndyYan's LOS15.1. https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-mix-2/development/rom-lineageos-15-1-t3761585
If you like MIUI try the Community Roms from xiaomi.eu, i use there Roms for over 5 Month, and im happy, they have Stable and Weekly Roms.
Is there anyone who tried Lineage 15.1 from AndyYan after xiaomi.eu ROM? What about fluidity and battery life?

Gets really bad when battery is low, the lighter Facebook apps on the market are quite good with smoothness, just not as good to look at.

Best AOSP ROM as of now?

I'm not a big MIUI fan but until the initial 72 hours go by I'm stuck with it... However that doesn't stop me from looking into all kind of AOSP ROMs.
I know that I'll have to test and try them all myself, but I'm curious what all of you are using and why.
My biggest focus is definitely battery life (screen time more so than standby) and I'd love it if any of you could give me numbers on this as well.

Resurrection remix, OmniROM, and LineageOS all share code trees. The differences between them should rally just be the minor feature set differences. I personally use LineageOS, but that is just because I like Lineage.
RR from Arasthel is awesome, just very very bad battery life.
OmiRom, not as smooth as MIUI, but better battery life than RR (but slightly less than MIUI)

Funny you mention smoothness compared to MIUI.

So.. it seems Omni is the place to be for battery life?

is your device full or has 100 apps running at the background? Miui is very very smooth. If your phone is clean then something wrong is going on with your miui. Some people complained for problems after ota update. A clean install solve the problem.
To add to what @papavales is saying, check what apps have autostart enabled. Great feature from MIUI that gives you great control over resource hungry apps.
I've swtiched from MIUI to Omni weekly builds and Im surprised how good this ROM is. I find xiaomi.eu laggy like hell last time...

Had some time to run the battery through its paces yet? Debating on whether I should go with official or unofficial builds here.
Official would mean hassle-free OTA, but unofficial (judging from the changelog) seems to be better tweaked for our device?

In my opinion WEEKLY are better, but thats mine. More stable and in my example more smooth (?)
I've settled for unofficial lineage os for the time being (now that I'm unlocked I need to try them all) and I'm just so happy to be back on AOSP after being forced to endure MIUI for three days waiting on the unlock permission...
The recent screen and notification shade on that thing just kill it for me.
Back in MIUI 4 and 5 they still rocked more or less clean versions of these but everything that came after just ruined it for me.

Recommend to me a good Oreo rom

Hey guys
I previously owned a Redmi Note 3 and flashed so many roms on that phone.
Now i just got a Redmi Note 5 Pro. Unlocked it. But currently I am very busy with assignments and don't have a lot of time.
So i can't keep flashing rom every few days.
Please recommend me a good Oreo rom. It should ideally not lag and have no random reboots. Basically I just want to flash and forget for a few months until Pie roms get very stable.
Thanks to all for their help.

Bro listen! Lineage os is most widely used custom rom in the world. Your device has official lineage os 15.1. So you should flash it & see if you're happy with it. Only customizations not present in los. After that you can try any other rom you want.

"Bro listen" - This does not sound like suggestion, rather like a command. What is good for you does not really mean that it will be for someone else. For example, on devices I have used, RN5 included, pure AOSP roms performed better than Cyanogenmod/LineageOS ones. They have been smoother and better in battery life.
Just because something is official it doesn't translate to a better than everything else, MIUI is an official rom from Xiaomi yet some releases were a bug fest.
I've tried LOS/RR and than jumped to AOSiP Oreo, that's close to pure AOSP but with additional useful features and it has been more stable, smoother and more battery friendly than LOS/RR and overall performance was consistent. In combination with Insigniux/Derp kernel it's great.
I've seen reports of MSM as great one as well, so that can be considered as well.
Anyway you'll have to try different rom and kernel combinations to see what works for you.

Exactly.
Although I can understand why some newer members are just dazzled by the "official" tag especially in context of LOS.
I especially dislike LOS because of lack of so many useful features. Why should I need to use xposed and 10 modules to get those features when I have root and recovery and I can simply flash a feature rich aosp rom.

Ok. I apologise if i gave someone wrong suggestion. But i was telling from my experience as for me los official always works great with no single bug till now. What i've seen is people sometimes complain a lot about problems in other new roms. So i was saying in that way. Thanks for your suggestion. I'll flash aosip with derp kernel.
One question tho. I want an oreo rom with battery life similar to miui 9.6. can you suggest me that rom? Miui 9.6 is giving me 12 hrs & 13 minutes of screen on time. Thanks in advance.

No need to apologise to me, since your post wasn't directed to me. You didn't suggest anything wrong, but the way you suggested it was a bit wrong. Anyway, AOSiP is a clean rom with good features and a default Derp kernel is great for battery life, I have had up to 14h of SOT (that depends on usage of course) but as far as I remember it was never below 10h.

What's the best ROM available right now? (as of 29th Feb 2020)

So, there's plenty of ROM options available to us currently. I've been hesitating massively on trying any of them due to being a bit burned by previous experiences with some not so great ROMs on other phones I've had previously. So tell me, in your opinion, what's the best ROM available right now? I'm looking for things that have the good battery life, a mostly lag-free experience, the less bugs the better, etc. The best overall ROM in general, basically. If you're using a custom kernal too instead of stock or the one that comes with the ROM, please mention it in a reply along with what you voted for.
Thanks!
I currently use POSP v3.1+8. This ROM is great if you want a proper taste of Android Q. I am using the stock kernel that comes with the ROM and opengapps pico package. I've never had any problems so far, but that's mainly because I don't use social media apps like Instagram. The software has its bugs and the battery life isn't great yet, but the Dev is working diligently to squish the bugs and that's what makes it for me. Best battery life and stability you can have is on Stock right now, especially if you debloat the ROM using shell, battery life is superb. I just can't stand Pie's ugly interface. MIUI ROM is sooo amazing, except for some little performance issues, especially on recents screen. MIUI ROM effectively transforms your Mi A2 Lite into a Redmi 6 Pro. But I've had a lot of privacy concerns over it. ROM's not open-source and Google + Xiaomi apps come preinstalled. If you respect your privacy MIUI is not the ROM for you. Pixel Experience on the other hand was a total mess. A lot of bugs + bad battery life. I haven't tried the other ROMs mentioned, but Stock Oreo is the way, if you want amazing stability, proper Gcam + incredible battery life. I literally could not drain the battery on Oreo. If you like the UI of them, stock ROMs are the way to go for stability. I'm using POSP because I just want the new features that Xiaomi should've provided us a loooong time ago.

I'm currently using this rom, in my opinion the best rom, even if without updates maybe I'll switch back to POSP later, but the battery consumption (idle) has to get even better.

Theres no 100% stable rom. I mean atm all of them have some minor bugs and gcam often freeze and reboot the phone. At least this was my experience with roms and gcam... Every time I try roms I just get fed up with (mostly gcam being slow and buggy) so I'm going back to stock after a couple of weeks.
Anyways try posp with the recommended kernel. Also you can find gcam at the themes forum here on xda.

Thanks. I'm reading a lot of bad reports about the Android 10 stock rom, is this true? ?Maybe is better I continue in 9?

Don't expect a stable build of 10 from Xiaomi soon. We had a Gcam configured for A2 Lite by hass31 but it doesn't work properly on stock Pie and it will NOT work on 10. Other than that I'm currently using the gcam in the apps and themes forum with the provided xml. It works wonders but video doesn't work. I've noticed that video recording on stock vs gcam doesn't make much of a difference.

DotOS(current), PE, Arrow and Miui.eu imo Dot performs best overall. For camera I have GCam (Urynx port) and its amazing. Just waiting for LineageOS or Paranoid Android to release for this device. TBH, all of these are equally good for daily use, it's just that I prefer the UI of Dot and it's a bit better in terms of gaming performance.
Pixel Experience with PE Recovery and using BSG Gcam version 8.1.101.
Getting near 2 days on a full charge, with over 5 hours SoT.
Way better and smoother than stock and I haven't had any weird overheating or reboots since installing. (Happened a bunch with stock ROM!)
Haven't tried other roms to compare because it's too much effort...
I have tried almost all the roms, and so far almost all of them runs fine.
