hello guyz i'm glad to start the first thread of dev thinking about the Nova 3 device
here in middle east (Egypt/KSA) we've got Nova 3 with 4GB ram
i wonder what if we flashed the PAR-LX9 rom on PAR-LX1M device, is that may release the hidden ram to be 6 gb of ram
Huawei used to use the same hardware to all variants and hide/release spects as the marketing needs.
How?
Is it even possible!.. yeah i've been wondering why do we have the 4 gb variant while others have the 6 gb for the same money i guess!. And why would the company lower it's specs on the paper!
I actually own the chinese version (version PAR-AL00) 128GB + 6GB RAM, but I'm interested in enabling the NFC, since it's available for version PAR-LX1 (see official spec, section NFC).
If we find a way to unlock the bootloader (as of now I haven't found a way), then maybe we can somehow merge the firmware from PAR-LX1 (enable NFC) with firmware from PAR-AL00 (enable 6GB RAM)!
Any idea?

I think OP's point is that a larger RAM is present in the device hardware, but it is being hidden by software?

Hello guys
It is my first post so excuse my bad english.
I want to ask you if somewone used this aplication for trim suport.
In the aplication review sead that if the phone model is not compatible can brick the phone.
So is Ascend P6 compatible with this aplication or not?
On the other hand what type o memory module is used as system memory?
Thanks in advance for the answers.

I think it requires some sort of kernel support for TRIM, which the huawei kernel obviously doesn't have...

Thank you for the answer.
The other important question is: ascend p6 comes with eMMC technology or flash, for the system memory?
If we have eMMC (and we should have because it wase released in the second half of 2013) the Trim suport in kernel should be a must have; i think.

Samsung KMVUS000LM-B304 252 chip is used for memory I believe, but I can't find any information of it being either eMMC or flash. I attatched a picture which has the word "Flash" in it, so it may actually be a flash memory. Nonetheless TRIM support came with 4.3, P6 launched with 4.2.2, and altough we have a 4.4.2 beta, the changes in the kernel have been very minimal. Unless they build a new kernel from scratch (which I doubt highly), the TRIM support wont be there. I also believe the K3V2oem1 kernel wont be updated much, so we have to rely on the K3V2+ kernel source, with some modifications, if it gets released and updated to a newer linux kernel version.

Hello and thank you again for the answers.
For what i can see in the picture the one in the middle is the memory card. It says SAMSUNG that means that it is a quality chip because for what i now samsung fabrics he's one memory chips. I will dig more hopping to gather more informations.
The main question remains: Has anyone used the softwere LAGFIX with ascend P6 without any problems?
I found this, maybe you can make more sense of it.
i found more about the chipset:

This seems interesting, it could aswell be an eMMC since it has ram inside the chip.
But something is wrong with the kernel of P6. Try Androbench and try taking the Micro test in there. I got only 20mb/s!!! (G2 and other devices get well over 110mb/s, hell, even the Galaxy S2 gets more than 2x faster rates!).
Highly possible that the chip needs TRIM, but unfortunately we have no way to enable it yet.

For what i read a eMMc can be trim in 2 ways
First with a build in system suport like JB 4.3 or KK
Second with a build app like LAGFIX manually.
I want to try thos app but i can brick the phone. I am in mutch doubt.
I am confused about there policy because what are whe traing to understend is normal for a bettter performance and a musthave of a healty system beased on this type of memory for storage.
Sorry again for the gramatical mistakes.
I found a clasification table on samsung website and the chip is in thr lower class 100 suitable for poor quality smartphones with dual core.
Maybe here is the reason for the poor performance despite the quad ore and 2gb off RAM.
If you have time please do a search on samsung website for the cip. It is a pdf presentation but it is large and i cant uploded.
specifications of the KMVUS000LM memory chip.
I found some specifications (marked with red). If we have some other chip specifications like S3 or nexus 4 (phone close to performance too ourse) then we can figure out if it is poor performane chip or it is a bad made kernel.
Hope that someone can figure it out.
I runned the LAGFIX aplication afterall. Unfortunelly doesn't work on our device, because of bad kernel suport or hardwere. I runned also ANDROBENCH: and got a sequential read/write 26.9Mb/s / 6.38Mb/s. VEEEEEEEEEEEERY LOW compared with other devices.
I AM VERY DISSAPOINTED ABOUT HUAWEI. Very good specs on paper but dissaponting components/kernel support in reality.
When HUAWEI will release the source code you will be able to try any custom kernel, I'm sure someone will make one, there are a few already, but not so good due to HUAWEI's restriction.

I also think that this is a kernel issue, appearantly their kernel includes tons of useless parts and tons of parts that dont work well.
But I dont think that a new kernel would make it much faster probably like ~50mb/s

Thank you for your asnwer,
I put a question in OMNIROM treath but no one answered. The question is: Has Omnirom (because in kitkat based) the suport of TRIM?
I asked you because i saw you use omnirom.
And another qiuestion: From what i saw huawei released the kernel source for B111. If it is such a bad kernel why did no one develope it?

surdu made a green kernel. We dont have any skilled kernel devs here + driver sourcecodes are still not released and probably wont be, without driver sourcecode, kernel version can't be updated and we will have to sit on 3.0.8 till the end, sadly.
Hi
I've searched high and low for a marsmallow update for my device which is a G8 RIO-L01 device. After some time i found that Huawei made (at least) 4 different devices which are the 'G8 dual sim' and the 'G8 SD + sim' and then later the 'GX8 dual sim' and the 'GX8 SD + sim'.
I seem to have the 'G8 SD + sim' version (3GB RAM /32GB 'DISK').
Which, as of now, is equipped with the bone-stock EMUI 3.1 with build number RIO-L01C02B150 . (Custom version: CUSTC02D010, Kernel version 3.10.49-g0854d7b [email protected] #1 Mon Feb29 10:39:01 IST 2016)
Can anyone shed some light on the possibilities I have to start modding this device? - Can I go Marshmallow? - Which ROM to use?
I am somewhat technically savy, but this device has me stumped because of all the different versions and the lack of clarity (to me) therein. I never had any problems with my ZOPO 820+, my HTC Legend, LG-H440n, my Samsung Galaxy 1, ... I always found the conclusive info to root and mod them...
Thank you very much!

G8, GX8 and G7 Plus are basically names for the same phone based on hardware. There are 2 version: 2GB and 3GB, and 2 versions of each, single SIM or double SIM.
Regarding the software updates, is about the region you are. There are some RIO-L01, RIO-L02 and RIO-L03 variants according to the continent you are.
As long as your phone is the same model (RIO-L0x) for the update, you won't have any problem to install the update. Besides, if you try to install an update for a different phone version, you will just get an error message and that's all, nothing to worry about.

Thanks! I'm relieved and excited! Now the Hunt for a reliable ROM begins!
While they are similar phones there are small differences between that can make roms and updates problematic. An example is the RIO-L03 in the US, less ram and storage. It also isn't able to use any of the rom offerings that offer updates to emui. Even within the RIO-L01 family of devices there seems to be various glitches making it problematic to update out side the ota process. Good luck in your hunt but don't take the patented there all essentially the same line, if they really were there wouldn't be so many issues getting a stable non flickering rom made.

I'll proceed with caution then... The CM13 build seems to tick many boxes. But the lack of fingerprint-scanner support is holding me back...
I found unlocking the device to be pretty straight forward, along with rooting it. The CM rom doesn't interest me in the least mainly due to the nature of what it is ... a non native emui rom. I have numerous stock and rommed galaxy devices and htc's to enjoy the various flavors of android. it makes no sense to me to even get a device like this if your going to rom out the one mainly unique thing it has going for it.
With that said the screen flickering issue present for some [including me] when trying to flash the emui 4.0.1 update is frustrating, but so much so as to force me to remove the unique ui of the device. At least here in the US it is easy enough to nab a note 3 refurb for @200 bucks and run what ever version of android I would want, faster and with more bells and whistles
I got the device for Emui.
Well, I got this device because it was cheapish and offers great functionality for that price. And also because I read everywhere that the G8 is sheduled for the marshmallow update.
I've seen that many flavours of this device received an update to marshmallow, but mine hasn't. And I'm not entirely sure if I should be holding my breath now...
EMUI is indeed a great shell for android, but it wasn't my main pursuader.

Have you managed to install the Marshmallow ROM?
Hey!
I'm looking for a small high end tablet and the Mi Max would be perfect for that. Especially the 2GB 16GB version as it is cheap and I will only read the news on it and browse a bit.
It seems the roms for the 32GB 3GB ram version work on the 16GB 2GB ram version. At least, that is what it looks like at reading threaths here and on Miui. I was hoping however that there would be somebody who could acknowledge this (an user with the 16GB 2GB ram modell?) ?
Thanks!

So no changing ***.img files in zip files, just straight forward flashing?

Hello,
I will getting the Xiaomi Mi 5S Plus tomorrow.
What are some of the first things I should be doing? I feel like I will not like the MIUI too much as I have used stock android on my old Nexus and more recently Cyanogen on my OPO. I plan to install Cyanogenmod on the phone as soon as they release it.
I believe I should do the following to prepare for that so that I do not need to start from scratch in the future (unsure of order and how to do it, some advice and guides here would be helpful, as well as an explanation of the purpose of each step):
- install custom recovery (I'm 99% certain I need to do this to install another ROM)
- root the phone (I don't think this is necessary, but allows me to do other things e.g. use Greenify)
- unlock bootloader (not sure what the purpose of this is)
Are there any other steps I should take?
Thanks in advance!

Without unlocking the bootloader, you can't install any custom recovery or custom ROM, just the official Xiaomi releases.
The eu version have less chinese apps and some minor changes compared to the global version. You can check the differences in their website.
Once you have unlocked the bootloader and install twrp, becoming root is pretty easy.

If you are talking about xiaomi.eu, yes it's different.
It's based on official China ROM and as you can see the release of official Global ROM is lagging behind china rom for both mi5s versions. For example stable for Plus is 8.0.4.0 for Global (I guess just one release) while it's 8.2.2.0 for China.
It's cleaned from Chinese apps, it contains many European languages (including Italian) and gapps.

I'm on 8.0.4.0 of Global Rom and I must admit that this is the first phone which makes me so satisfied. I'm gonna stay close to later products from Xiaomi as long as they keep doing this way.
I don-t understand the different ROM-s.
I now have 8.0.4 Global Stable.
It seems tha a 8.2.2 Global Stable should come out since 20 February (but did not come out)
Then there is a 7.3.9 Global Beta released March 10

But why Beta is a LOWER number (7.3.9 to 8.0.2)???????????
Very confusing

4GB is a lot of Ram in my opinion.
Think if you need 64 or 128 of storage in your phonbe, and make your decision based on that.
As far as I know, for my usage (and I am a heavy user) 4GB of RAM is enough nowadays

Thanks for trying to help. I have now resolved the problem!. The reason phone was not sending was because of 3G signal only at my home. When I tried in a 4G area not far from my location a picture message flew through. if you have an unlocked bootloader it will be fine. i have been using tm firmware for a while on my awm model. probably will not boot on a locked bootloader because the verification signature is different for tm. unlocked bootloader bypass any partition verification(something like that, i think). about the mobile radio, it works just as well. the configuration for your carrier probably won't be preset, so need to set your on APN. also I think carrier agregation is not working for my carrier, volte works but without any UI to turn on/off. everything else not related to radio works fine. just be warned that TMo have weird ideas about how adaptive brightness work, you can't adjust the backlight brightness if you have autobrightness turned on. that is the most annoying part of the firmware.
