Help needed choosing rom - OnePlus 3 Questions & Answers

Hello All,
I need some help choosing a daily ROM because I am using LOS 15.1 but 4G isn't working with my provider
I am searching for:
- Near stock
- Working 4G with Vodafone NL
- Hide status bar icons
- Best battery life
- Dark theme (substratum support )
- Root (magisk)
- Android 8+
- (optional) weekly or bi-weekly updates
I am looking at
- Pixel experience
- Nitrogen OS
I hope you guys can help me with my choice

Nitrogen is a good pick because they add some features you may be used to from lineage, but they aren't mod-crazy. Like Lineage they have a limited set of extras they implement, so you know you aren't going to get a ton of bugs.
Pixel Exp is nice too though because it's AOSP which I like better than LOS. Google stuff tends to work better, as this is Android they way it was intended.
That said, you've picked a weird time to change because both these have just jumped up to Pie (Android 9.0) and as such are back in Beta. You should expect bugs.
Why not look at The One - it's built from Oxygen OS as a base which is near-stock anyway, but it's de-bloated, rooted and I'm pretty sure it supports theming. Official Android Pie is coming to the OP3 soon, that ought to have the least bugs and this would probably give you the easiest upgrade path to that.

[ROM][UNOFFICIAL] GzRoms - TipsyOs Vino [6.0.1][04/11][v5.0]

TipsyOS
This ROM was created by Martin Coulon (@martinusbe) one of the lead devs at Ground Zero Roms. This was created as a side project during his 'free' time while waiting for GZR's Validus & Tesla builds to finish. Now if you are wondering why it is called Tipsy, you guessed it. He was actually somewhat drunk when he made it, and even now, most updates/fixes are done while happily intoxicated, thus keeping the Tipsy motto. It was initially done for the OnePlus One as a joke, however, the love for this ROM was so huge, it found it's way out. We just couldn't keep it to ourselves. Within a few days, it had spread like wildfire to a plethora of different devices.
Tipsy has a slim base, and only the useful and necessary stuff was added, including a few extra features to keep up with the competition out there. Tipsy fully supports Layers (RRO) and has the Layers manager app built-in. CM is kept to the barest minimum here, and is only added/used ONLY as needed.
I will try to keep this updated as much as possible, but if you feel like getting the info as it comes out along with some nice graphics, check it out here:

If you mean controlling the volume with the screen off then, Settings> sound and notifications> volume keys control media volume. Otherwise I don't have any issues with volume. Although I am missing the option to change screen brightness by swiping on the status bar.

Thanks. I tried that but it didn't work for me for some reason. I might re-flash and see if that fixes it.
Super work Gopi! I think this ROM beats all other AOSP ROMs that have been built for 5X. Just tested and found no need to install any other mods, all is built in and works to perfection......even battery is staying stable and I've had a hard time trying to drain it below 80% for the past 3 hours with normal usage (no gaming, only calls, whatsapp and substratum tinkering etc) The only thing I really miss is that a sim card cannot be deactivated....does someone know a work around to that?

Well sim deactivation Is not implemented by cm itself. So we are not going to get it. Until somebody made a patch and move it to github and build a new ROM
not stable , so many force close
google play service + some user apps => has stopped
And because of this , it made me to skip connecting to wifi on startup , because as soon as I connect to internet , for continuing the setup a working google play service was needed !
First I thought the problem is on my side but I installed this rom 2 times !
After changing my rom all the problems disappeared ....

Best ROM I've tried so far! (CM, RR, SLIM, crDROID) The battery life is pretty much insane. Fully Charged it last night. Unplugged BEFORE I fell asleep. Woke up with 96% (7 hours).
Will therebe any update to this rom?? This one is my favorite. My DD!!
Thank you for great rom.

Slimrom Nougat 7.1.1 Unofficial

April 7. New release, Slim 0.18.
1. Accidental f/c of apps, such as browser, gallery and some others has been fixed. Nothing f/c anymore. The interface is fast and smooth. As a matter of fact, this is the fastest among the ones I have tried. Do and experiment. If you are on DU or Lineage, press virtual button for recents and then back to virtual button for home. Do it several times: in other roms, there is a delay. In this rom, the transition is instantaneous. The same is if you want to bring up phone dialer: no delay on this rom.
2. The rom has an interface for enabling/disabling sim cards
3. Recents: some people complained they didn't like Slim recents. If you want vanilla android recents, just disable Slim recents in settings
Plus other improvements...

__________________________________________________________________________________________________________
April 1: Rom updated. Phone calls and WIFI now work. Confirmed. This is Slim's release 0.17.
Latest sources plus
1. Zen Decision Hotplug
2. Intelithermal management
3. Magisk included and incorporated in settings
4. Substratum in settings - will show up, once installed
5. Vibration adjustment in kernel (you need KernelAdiutor for that)
6. Option to disable USB access (no access, no on lockscreen and yes to all
7. Option to disable/enable access to clipboard - off by default, so, if you want to copy/paste, enable it in Settings/Security
Remember, you need Afwall to have the internet

Hello, Z2 plus users!
I am the creator of Jaguar rom for Sony Xperia Z1/Z1c/Z2/Z3/Z3c, which is quite popular. Recently, I have switched to Zuk Z2 and here is my first presentation for this device: Unofficial Slimrom with custom 3.18 kernel.
Everyone knows Slimroms, so I won't be describing much. It is based on AOSP and includes some special Slim features, which everyone knows.
Kernel is a Zuk 3.18 kernel with heavy modifications, including my own taken from Jaguar:
1. Implementation of some features from Grsecurity
2. Yama security enabled
3. Mixed hardware and software random number generation
4. Sleep issue has been completely resolved
Other features that are not in Slim
Magisk is included with open source Superuser, credit to topjohnwu and phhusson
Credit: Slimroms, Davidevinavil for initial device tree and vendor files
Instructions: Keep in mind that flashing this rom will take about 1.5 min longer, because it is zipped the Omni way, i.e., no dat files, but rather the full system structure..
1. Obviously, unlocked bootloader and TWRP installed
2. In TWRP wipe /system/data/cache/dalvik-art
3. Flash the rom and reboot
IMPORTANT: this rom has a script that runs on early boot that cuts the internet for both data and wifi to prevent leaking. To have the Internet you have 2 options:
1. Install Afwall, set it up, allow access to apps you want to connect (or all, if you don't care), enable Afwall and you'll have the internet;
2. If you don't care that all your apps will be connecting to the Internet all the time wasting battery and leaking data, use any root explorer, go to /system/etc and delete crashdod.sh file. Reboot.. Or you can do this before flashing: unzip the rom, delete the same file (crashdod.sh), rezip and flash...

Actually, you were right. I forgot to mention (and I have already updated the OP), that the rom has a script running on early boot that cuts the internet to prevent data leaks. You have 2 options, depending on what you want, described in the OP...
Can you port stock ZUI camera and put in this rom?
I tried to but failed.
I guess its possible cuz naptha included it in his aosp 7 rom.

The best camera for this and other roms is Open Camera. I had stock camera for about 2 days and I didn't notice any difference between stock and AOSP, especially now, when video recording no longer stops after 30 seconds...

Great rom
I will keep an eye on that rom one of the best for our device.
I have only one issue, things slowdown when scrolling through Google+. The stock nougat rom has the same issue. Keep up the good work
Nice rom. Smooth and minimal. Haven't encountered any bug in my usecase. Will keep an eye on the development as slim has always been one of the favorite roms for me. Also, a different take on kernel and features is nice to see. Good job!

Everything is smooth because hardware overlays are disabled by default in framework.
By the way, Jaguar N for Zuk Z2plus is almost done. In addition to other features, you will have alucard, darkness, and nightmare governors. You will also have Zen decision hotplug, as well as vibration sensitivity adjustment. Also, slim recents and memory ram bar; a switch to disable/enable clipboard access; hardened bionic with runtime permissions set to read only, so that third party apps can't manipulate android...

[ROM][9] LineageOS, ResurrectionRemix, AEX, PE // personal builds

This thread was formerly "[ROM][9] LineageOS 16.0 + AOSPExtended + PixelExperience // personal builds" - yes, once again, the title can't fit the full names of all these ROMs :/
This thread hosts personal builds of LOS 16.0 and other Android 9 (Pie) ROMs for Mix 2, currently built from @wight554 's trees. Similar to Oreo, full credits to Wight and others behind the scene for the bringup, allowing us to build upon the awesome work.
Currently I build the following ROMs, usually monthly (in sync with security patch):
LineageOS 16.0
ResurrectionRemix 7
AOSPExtended 6
PixelExperience 9
Small changes in my builds:
Default stretch-to-fullscreen (force apps to render in 18:9) - LOS official solution defaults to OFF, which complicates setup
Grey-blue DeskClock color scheme (when possible)
Navbar stays on the right side of the screen under 270° rotation (optional - set the behaviour with "setprop persist.ui.seascape.disable <true|false>" in a rooted shell)
Signature spoofing support from MicroG
...
What's working:
Everything?
Instructions:
Coming from official MIUI? Since the new encryption has been implemented, you only need to wipe (not format) /data.
Flash any Pie firmware (firmware Stable V10.4.1.0 recommended) for builds starting from May, or firmware Stable V10.0.2.0 otherwise.
Use official TWRP or OrangeFox.
Download the latest build and optionally GAPPS (PE comes with GAPPS though, don't use any from external sources)
Reboot to TWRP
Flash the latest build, GAPPS and whatever other additions you need
Reboot
Extras:
Read here if you want to use unencrypted data - post is from Oreo thread, but still applies to Pie

About "official" status:
Currently I don't plan to apply for "official" for any of these ROMs, because 1) Wight is the actual maintainer who did the bringup and maintenance work, and 2) I like to be able to apply changes at will to the OS itself without restrictions from the official team.

Just an additional note: I'm not as enthusiastic about building ROMs as I was early this year, so expect less regular updates and/or unanswered fix/feature requests. I'm just a builder, not nearly as capable of Demon or Wight doing all the heavy lifting, so I'll only do what my ability/time permits.
Thanks for all your work, Andy

Statusbar customizations like network traffic aren't merged yet, just wait.
Can we have that slide down gesture to bring the notification bar down like we had in PE Oreo? Thanks
Hey,i have a question. Is it possible to port full screen gestures from miui 10 to los 16?
Are the quick settings on the status bar still a bit off on PE edition?
Folks who have tried, please do let me know about the battery consumption. This build added some CPU governors to the kernel and defaulted little cluster to one of them, and I'm not sure of its actual impact. It's my first time fiddling with kernels and I can't guarantee the change will be satisfactory.

I acknowledge the lack of padding there, but I don't quite want to look into it now. It's supposed be a problem for PE upstream anyway.
Greetings!
I've downloaded the rom last night. And until now, I have no problem: the camera works perfectly, the sound sound good and gaming performance are good.
The thing which attracted me was the mention of "Lineage OS" and I'm not disappointing to see that it's so close of the official and stable version . I'm blind in context of "find the bugs", so maybe we could find some but this is not my domain.

Expanded Desktop is a feature that will surely be merged in the future. As the other user said, there are 3rd-party apps that can achieve the same goal. I myself am using Tiles since it places a shortcut in Quick Settings.
Hi I haven't touched this kind of thing I'm a few months and I forget some of the finer details.
I have a few questions.
Firstly, do you have to add treble to your mix 2 to get this to run, or is that optional? If so can someone please send me a link to the thread. Would be greatly appreciated.
Secondly, I am on RR6 based on 8.1, if I just do a general wipe and flash the new ROM and gapps over the top, will this cause issues?
Lastly, I am on Icemans TWRP, do I HAVE to use the one suggested in the description (I did read it before someone yells at me, I just want to know if I HAVE to, because I'd need to set up ADB on a PC again and that would be a real pain in the behind).
Many thanks in advance as usual guys. Love your work and appreciate your patience and effort with this kind of thing. God bless

Treble is built into the ROM itself, you don't need to flash anything to achieve it.
Judging from the fact that you're using a super old TWRP though, you likely are on an old/unencrypted RR, and thus will need DecScript if you don't want to format /data (read OP).
That TWRP is MANDATORY, though most TWRP builds allows flashing images within ("install image" option), so you might not need a PC.

That was really helpful thanks. I am running unencrypted and what do you mean treble is but into the rom? Is it old style with device drivers built in or will flashing the new ROM flash the drivers to whatever partition they have to go to and give me treble?

This is Treble-enabled but this is NOT a GSI (Generic System Image). You still flash as you would do a regular ROM, just with a Treble-enabled recovery.
Quick update to sync with Wight's updated battery data - from this build on you're supposed to use newer firmwares. OP has been updated with the mandatory new firmware requirement and TWRP build from Wight.
Thanks for your work,I have used aex for two days.It is very nice. But I notice a small problem that sometimes the fingerprint unlock is very slow and I have to touch several times to unlock it.Is it a bug of this rom?
Duble tap on screen for wake up dosent works too

all in one rom??

why cant we have a ROM with all the desired features. there are certainly many android roms but each is unique in its way. how many have you changed a ROM just because you didn't like a single thing about it or a single feature is missing.
is it possible for us to get a single ROM that has features added that the users want and not what the developers think we want.
no offense we appreciate the work you do.
The only way is to build your own rom with all the required features..
Try RR rom which has every single features you are looking for

RR doesn't have a pie rom
There used to be a ROM, that was a combination of all major custom roms avaliable at it"s time
Paranoid Android
+
AOKP
+
CyanogenMod
PAC rom. Unfortunately it's last and final version was 6.0 (MM based) and PAC team made a announcement, that PAC rom is no longer going to be developed and they will make a new rom. This statement is from 2016....
Ressurection Remix seems to be it"s closest friend (it's Oreo based though)
on OREO!
RR, AEX, CRDROID, HOVAC with few nip and tucks they have almost everything you would love!
also if you try each rom with different kernel each reacts differntly with Volume, battery and performance
1. InsigniuX kernel x10
2. Derp 4.0
3. Agni Kernel
4. stormguard and Kirks kernel
so the more different roms are the more choices you have to suite according to you needs, requirement and customization!
thats the beauty!
also MOKEE is good too! very stable! ,

since 8.1 roms have reached to its END! so there is nothing more is going on with them!
but dirty Unicorn released all sorts of system UI tweaks for 8.1 and Xposed working on 8.1, hence i have done my fair share of homework & found out that Satisfactory level of DU tweaks founded in
1. CR Droid (final OREO released Oct2018)
2. Havoc 8.1 (final Oreo Aug2018
3. RR 6.2 ( final , sept 2018) ( currently using) ( no double tap to sleep feature)
4. AOSIP8.1 (very nice, Aug2018 one time build for 8.1, no incremental builds on 8.1)
5. AEX ( similar to AOSIP but have FONTS support , which makes is more attractive)
6. OMNIROM & Linage! both very stable roms! but both vanished after 1 attempt of release on android 8.1 (no UI Tweaks Found)
ALL CUSTOM ROMS USES KERNELS DERP, (few uses stormguard or InsigniuX) however all these kernels are from main tree of ANYKERNEL BY Osm0sis on github. and all roms i had tried on TWO three different RN5p ,,, i found
1. RANDOM REBOOTS when you remove phone from ear and waiting screen to wakup so that you disconnect CALL.
2. same happens with whatsapp call too!
3. when headphone jack is inserted, everything works perfect! no random reboots
4. RR6.2 don't start syncing unless u wake the mobile! ,
5. audio volume on whatsapp call is ALWAYS ALWAYS low! no matter how much you tweak mixer path file! but on CRDOID its little better for uknown reason
6. both CRdroid4.7 and HAVOC on android 8.1 have strange random network connectivity failure, they both just cant read simcards in tray unless u re insert sim while mobile is ON. I network reset many times on areoplane mode and restart device! , sometimes it works! but many times i have to re inserte simcards after rebooting device (tried on InsigniuX and Derp kernels)
now there is MOKEE Rom which releases updated version EVERYDAY! 750+mb to download each day or atleast every alternative day! i used MOKEE for 1month almost and
1. there was update every day! , incremental updates were 20mb but later they removed incremental update feature and now FULL rom needs to be downloaded. WHERE
2. I found out they are only updating preinstalled app versions or updating Kernel version if its releases. so there was never DEVELOPMENTAL increase!. (not that I know off) because
3. I had been reporting that IMO gives some SOUND LIBRARIES ERROR and the other party can hear YOUR "helo Helo" but all you can hear is SILENCE... but till last november build the same bug was there! , whatsapp volume is ok but
4. MOKEE don't have DU tweaks and I wanted to control navbar height so i installed DIMENSIONS EDITOR in XPOSED and SOUND /VOLUME/CALL DIED. it became so low! , when xposed removed and rom reflashed (dirty flashed) , sound became back to normal.
so summing up! its not just rom!
the link between given ANYKERNEL by Osm0sis to enrich end user experience also MATTERS!
I miss miui applocker in all the oreo and pie roms....

OP didn't mentioned whether he want Oreo based ROM or pie based ROM that's why I suggested RR ROM.

Wow that's alot of info but still all the developer for custom ROM just do the same thing like building a brand and rarely try any cool experiments ... I used to love those custom roms from ICS time they used out any features they could find.

Development EOL[ROM] Project Zephyrus [OFFICIAL] [13.0.0_r4[raven & oriole]

Project-Zephyrus is a minimal Android fork, focused on design and performance
(Fancy obligatory html banner to follow, maybe, i don't care what the thread looks like, i will say the rom will speak for itself. Flash the rom and enjoy, or not )
Brought to you all for both the Pixel 6 Pro and Pixel 6
Support Chat: https://t.me/+9DvqglUXQZ9iYjkx
This is a highly customized rom mostly based on Proton, with all the same performance enhancements, but with most of the favorite features we love and adore.
Downloads for both Raven and Oriole are below
Raven-
Project-zephyrus - Browse /raven at SourceForge.net
sourceforge.net
Oriole-
Project-zephyrus - Browse /oriole at SourceForge.net
sourceforge.net
Installation:
Be on July firmware
reboot to recovery (when you get to the "no command" screen, briefly hold power, tap vol up to enter stock pixel recovery)
wipe data/factory reset
reboot to bootloader
fastboot update zephyrus_raven_v2.zip
OR
fastboot update zephyrus_oriole_v2.zip
V1 was only posted on telegram
Changelog:
-Implemented Android 12.1 Easter Egg
-Fix suspicious spaces around mobile icons
-Fix QS mobile icon disappearing on theme switch
-Restore brightness adjustment on boot
-Force a reset if brightness adjustment is changed directly
-Doesn't let "extra dim" affect brightness adjustment
-Some Fixes & Improvements
Device side:
-Updated to latest Radioactive 5.10.110 Kernel built in- just like DerpFest, do not change kernel
-Powerhint updated to match Radioactive standalone zip Thanks @acuicultor
-Safety net passes out of the box without root
All custom settings are housed in the normal location relevant to the feature set. ie Pulse is in settings/sound. Also, feel free to use other launchers, but features such as smart space may have issues, same with themeing mods, and screenshot sharing.
Also, if you mod or change kernel, launcher, or add other mods, you are on your own. I cannot support every new variable introduced.
If you experience previously declared issues- as a result of said modification, undo your mods, clean flash(without mods), see if your issue persists, and if so, capture a log. If you do not do this, I will not address your issue. Simply, bc the issue is likely due to your own actions/mods.

Update 10-16-22
Guys i tried to do a zephyrus build for Raviole. My computer simply will not let me. It doesn't want to. And neither do I.
Sorry. My work for pixel 6 series is done. After using Pixel 7 Pro I clearly have no desire to do a build for Zephyrus/ Raviole.
A. I don't like that phone, I honestly f$#king despise it and always have. Plastic [email protected]&$ing steaming ....
B. Derpfest 13 was my swan song and is as close as perfect that can come for Raviole, use that.
If you would like to follow my work, it will have to be on the 7 series for Pantah
Thanks for the support and hanging out, best of luck everyone and keep in mind there are some great devs working on Android for this device. Check out their work!
Thanks to my awesome community of friends, testers, and many more... I would plug in the xda tags but I don't really use xda and don't know them anymore. I talk with you all in my chat and you all know the thanks are there
thanks again!
Super solid rom, no issues at all, thx for the assume build
Smoothest ROM I've used on Oriole to date

Yes
@Hurt Copain Just to confirm, are there any Pixel apps/features missing or not working in this rom ie. magic eraser, camera, live translate, now playing etc.
And do I have to flash back to July 12.1 from latest A13 Beta 4 first and then flash?

Some users report magic eraser not working but it's bc of what we spoof to pass safety net. The community has some other method to use it. Check the chat. Everything else pixel end is just like stock.
Yes. Be on stock July. We aren't on Android 13 yet. So, use Android 12.1
Yes it would be best to return to July stable first
Awesome ROM! Super stable and ROM is buttery smooth. Great work as always @Hurt Copain
Good work buddy
OHHH YEAHHHH!!! GET IT PEOPLEEE!!!
Get it Jack Get It!
