Experimental TWRP for the Asus Zenfone 5z
This is a very experimental version of TWRP. Use at your own risk.
I am posting this now because it seems there is no other development and perhaps this can stimulate development for the 5z.
Due to lack of time (full time job, wife, kids and a master), i cant promise any quick development.
ROM development is stuck due to the fact that i cant get a system image booting at the moment.
Flashing TWRP:
- Bootloader needs to be unlocked
- You need adb and fastboot
- Boot into bootloader (from the stock rom use adb reboot bootloader)
- Check the current active slot, change the slot to the other slot (if current active slot = a then use b. If b, then use a)
- Switch slot by using fastboot set_active <a|b>
- Just to be sure use fastboot reboot bootloader and check if the slot has changed.
- Download link of the boot image: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=1322778262903990756
- Flash the boot image by using fastboot flash boot boot.img
- Select recovery from bootloader
By booting back to stock, boot into bootloader and use fastboot set_active <a|b> to switch back the slot and reboot.

As far as I understand it's just changing forceencrypt to encrytable in the vendor fstab.
Would still need to be formatted. But will do that as soon as I get some omnirom booting.

Just to let you know had to flash the extra boot.img to get the @UltraGamerHD build working. Has booted up now :highfive:
edit: Yay the camera does indeed work!!! Cannot test the quality all that well for now. I do seem to have a home button bug. It won't return the phone back to the home menu. Will mess around.
edit2: Not an issue with the rom. Seems the Gapps package I installed screwed up home button.

That was what I told in the build, that worked for me when I was testing, glad it works
Is the Design-Manager working on UltraGamers build? It isn't on mac's build.
Really stable so far! Only found one major bug, brightness doesn't work (nothing changes with slider). Dunno if it is easy fixed or a sensor problem. Great work devs!

There is no chance of hard bricking whatsoever by simply flashing a system image.
Use TWRP for what it's for, backing up then flash whatever you want.

Tbh I don't think lineage would really be that useful on this tablet. Yes Samsung experience isn't as smooth but the features Samsung adds is actually useful on a tablet. Like DEX. Hide nav bar button etc . Lineage you would loose most of this

Hi dr460nf1r3,
I tried flashing twrp from this post several times after reseting by flashing a stock firmware, but every after flashing twrp, my device just boot loop and wouldn't get into OS. I downloaded system-arm64-aonly-gapps-su.img from here and flashed it, boot loop still appeared.
Details of my trying:
1. Reset device by flashing one of below stock firmware:
2. Make sure OEM unlocked, go to download mode, untick 'Auto reboot' in and then flash twrp_3.2.3-2_sm-t830_26918.tar with AP slot in .
3. Press volume up and Power buttons to go to twrp, at this , internal storage is not accessible, but I have an external micro sd card, which is accessible in twrp.
4.
a. If I reboot device, boot loop happens.
i. If I flash system-arm64-aonly-gapps-su.img to twrp's system partition, the flash is ok, but boot loop still happens.
b. If I flash TabS4_oreo_forced_encryption_disabler.zip and format data and then reboot to twrp, internal storage is accessible now, like below:
i. If I flash system-arm64-aonly-gapps-su.img in twrp's system partition, the flash is ok, but boot loop still happens.
boot loop screen:
I really want to flash a gsi rom because I'm a android developer, and firmwares mess up numbers of system code therefore is unfriendly to debugging. On the contrary, devices keep their numbers of code accurately same with system code in android sdk.

Have you flashed OEM?
Did you test v0.11 and v0.10? ?

I can't boot, I'm on a G8142. Device gets to Sony screen and then glitches out. It's probably the high refresh rate mod, can you compile an image without the mod added please? Thanks!

No high framrate in Q. If you freeze at Sony Logo, you may fail to write right OEM images or fail to write vendor image to cache partition.

Did you format data and reboot to recovery before? I am using TWRP, but I think it needs these steps too.

Is there any place where I can find more info on miuimix?
Is there any place where I can find more info on miuimix? Like a webpage, twitter, forum... some place where they post about their progress and stuff.
Also, is it stable? Any known bugs? What's the difference with stock miui?
Thanks!!

The Rom Is very stable, more optimized than the stock stable, battery, responsiveness, better in everything.
There is the official telegram group, in which they give support to users and keep them informed about updates.

As recovery, use the twrp from mauronofrio. Posted in this device forum.
