Best value compatible TV tuner - Shield Android TV Accessories

Hi, I'd like to know what's the best tuner to use with the Shield. I know that the WinTV-DualHD (£60) works from this video, but it appears to be quite slow to change channel (not the end of the world). I also know from this post that the Xbox USB tuner (£9) works with the Shield. Does anyone know:
A tuner that definitely switches channel quickly
If there's any reason not to buy the much cheaper Xbox tuner
Whether I can use two Xbox tuners in place of one dual tuner

The xbox (Europe) tv tuner is not compatible, on the US version.

I use my Xbox Hauppage USB Tuner (U.S. version) with the Live Channels app and it is great. I can record shows to my drive since it's the 500gb version. Really works better on Shield than on the Xbox One S.

Yeah I bought the Xbox One TV tuner from Amazon UK just before this reply. Indeed it doesn't seem to be recognised when directly plugged into the Shield TV.
It semi-works if plugged into a Raspberry Pi running LibreELEC with TVheadend running and this app installed on the shield, but currently that's being finicky.

Need advice for Bluetooth Gamepads (8-Bitty doesn't work well)

I just received my iCade 8-Bitty controller in the mail from ThinkGeek. I'm having a bit of trouble getting it to work in the few apps I've tried.
I have successfully paired the device with the tablet, but it doesn't seem to be receiving any inputs from the controller.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=35167558
According to this thread, people have used the app BluezHID to get the 8-bitty to work as a keyboard, and successfully map controls in emulators, on the Original N7.
I've tried BluezHID on my 2013 N7 to no avail, i get an error: bt socket connect failed message no matter what I try.
Seems iCade support requires "L2CAP" to work with the Bluetooth stack. Any clue if this is supported on the 2013 N7?
Has anyone else tried the 8-bitty or other iCade sticks on the 2013 N7 yet?
I will keep trying a few other game apps and see if anything works. I'll update this thread as I figure stuff out.
Edit:
Initial tests indicate that the pad connects, is seen, but in MAME4Droid, every button is read as "unknown", making mapping impossible. Will keep trying.
Edit2:
Seems BluezHID will NEVER work as they changed the way Bluetooth connects in 4.2.2 (N7 is at 4.3), it never releases the bluetooth connection. A custom ROM may fix this. *SIGH*
Edit 3:
Seems with 4.3 Bluetooth gamepads are near broken, I need some general advice about using Bluetooth Controllers with the 2013 Nexus 7.
Bump for title change. I need some more general advice with Bluetooth Controllers.
The best bluetooth controller I've found is the the official PS3 controller. If you have a PS3 system then you're all set. If not, you can usually get one for less than $30 brand new. There are tons of knockoffs that can cost about half or less, but it's a hit or miss with those. If you don't care about being wireless, then just get a wired controller, xbox360 controller for example, which is cheaper and will also work.
Hmm, I do have a wired 360 Controller, I would assume a USB to micro-USB adapter is required. Is there any app needed? Does it require root? Is the 2013 Nexus 7 USB-OTG capable?
Tried my XBOX360 Wired controller and a USB to Micro USB adapter that I had lying around, and did not work. Didn't even light up. Granted, I'm not sure if this adapter ever worked, but I have no clue if the 2013 N7 even has the OTG capability.
Any other ideas?
I have the steelseries free that I bought used from eBay at 35.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Well, bought a powered USB Hub and it still didn't work with my OTG adapter, so its obviously at fault. I have another OTG Cable on the way, one recommended by an XDA forum thread, but it won't get here for a month. Blech.
I need to peruse the forums some more and see if there is a good list of Bluetooth controllers somewhere.
I have been using Moga Pro
and I have no complaints, came with a little tablet stand too. I have been using it flawlessly on emulators like Drastic DS and supergnes and MyBoy. Also, it works with the Moga software which is growing it's library of supported games all the time. I love it and honestly it feels better than the PS3 controller in my humble opinion. They just recently released a new line of Moga controllers where they charge youre device while playing, sounds cool but I always carry extra battery packs with me so it's not necessary for me.

Oooooooo. I like. Ordered me one. Thanks for the info! Much better button layout than 8-Bitty, and it says it emulates a keyboard as well, so should work with just about anything. Will be arriving in about two weeks. Will update after testing.

Finally got ahold of my FC30, and I'm sad to report it doesn't work as advertised. Works fine as a USB PC controller, but I have troubles getting it to connect to my N7 (2013) reliably. The touchscreen emulation hasn't worked yet, as it will never successfully connect in the touchscreen emu mode with the included .apk. However, this gamepad has the ability to update the firmware, so its possible to fix these issues.
My conclusion: DON'T BUY. At least until they fix connectivity.

Just got my Moga pro and I have to say it does great for Games that support it directly and with the Universal Driver on the Play store it works great with the emulators I use. Pleasantly surprised that I don't have to be rooted for the Universal Driver to work either. I had been using the Sixaxis app with a PS3 controller up till now but I wanted to see if I really needed to root my new N7 so I grabbed the Moga to try.

Another vote for the Sony PS3 Sixasis controller!! I use a PS3 controller with my Asus Infinity, Note 2, Evo LTE, and of course N7 FHD. Best part is that it works flawlessly with EVERY game too!! Even if the game isn't set to support a controller, you can use the Sixasis app and customize the controller button presses to emulate a screen touch. Absolutely LOVE that feature and ability!! I set some custom game button mappings for some games that already natively support controllers, just because I prefer the button presses to do something different. You can make and save different controller button mappings (just called "maps" in the Sixasis app) for each individual game, or even make multiple maps for each game if you'd like. The app is very flexible and allows you to fully customize everything to your liking! I don't believe there's another controller option out there that offers as much flexibility and in depth customizations as does a Sixasis controller with the Sixasis app!! I'm excited to get the PS4 system and to use PS4 Sixasis controllers with my Android devices!!
Needless to say, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND going with a PS3 controller and the Sixasis app!!!!
SwiftKey'ed from my '13 Nexus 7 FHD using XDA Premium HD
I have been using the wired 360 controller for awhile now, for both my PC and Nexus7 (both gens). Works well, though it is a little awkward finding a good spot for the tablet since your hands are both on the controller (unless you have a stand or are sitting at a table).
If you want a wired one then I would high recommend it.

Thinking of getting Fire TV Stick

Stationed overseas, looking at buying a FireTV Stick to run Kodi and other apps on it.
What are the pro's and con's of it?
What apps should I install on it?
I have a ton of movies/tv shows, could I stream from my iMac to it? (This isn't needed to much)
I've had Kodi before on my devices, so figured a FireTV Stick would be a cheap alternative to have it on my Sharp Smart TV.
May be as you said, FireTV Stick would be a cheap alternative, but if you have the extra money, the FireTV BOX is always the best solution, because it is faster, have USB Port and more memory, that can be expanded with memory stick (on the 1st Gen.) or use Micro USB Cards (on the 2nd Gen.), to move some some data of the installed APPs...
I am the owner of: 2 FireTV Sticks and 2 FireTV Units (1st Gen. and also 2nd Gen.), and I really think that you should better consider to get the Fire-TV BOX instead of the Stick, because I started using my FireTV Stick for KODI, and I was forced to rapidly change, and I had to decide to install KODI and TVMC on my FireTV BOX, because the FireTV Stick was too Slow and was not enough to handle KODI!
So, I although the processing power and the memory of the FireTV Stick are too limited, it can run programs like: KODI, TVMC, SPMC and XBMC, but all of them always will run very slow and with lags...
I don't want to force you to buy the FireTV BOX version, but when the BOX and STICK are compared, you immediately notice a very big difference in speed between these two models and then will understand why the FireTV it's cheaper!
I think that you should wait a little, because it could be possibly that Amazon will offer some kind of discount or special price for all FireTV products, in the next coming months...
I really hope this information could help you to make a good decision!
I have a fire tv stick and like you I find it slow to handle kodi, I want to confirm if Amazon improved the specs on the new fire tv stick 2015?
I really want to update to a newer model with better specs but don't want to invest in a fire tv yet.
What is your budget and goals? Do you plan to use other streaming services such as Amazon instant video or Netflix or Hulu? How do you feel about installing Plex server on your iMac?
Kodi can be a bit of a resource hog for a device like the (original) FireTV stick, but I find that Plex runs just fine. I gave my FTV stick to my parents and set it up so they have access to my Plex server over the internet and their crappy DSL and it's great. Netflix and Hulu also work just fine. A FireTV is a step up for sure, and a nVidia Shield Android TV is an even bigger performance boost that will also get you into console quality gaming.
Hello Silenus21,
I am not fully sure because Amazon has not released yet the FireTV (2015) with the New Voice Remote yet, but I think that Amazon has Not improved the hardware specs on the new FireTV Stick (2015), only difference is that now it came with the new WIFI Remote and Also FireOS-5, that supposedly all FireTV Sticks are going to receive it today October 22nd!...
http://www.aftvnews.com/fire-tv-stick-may-receive-update-to-fire-os-5-tomorrow-october-22nd/
However, I thought that you would like to know, that Amazon has delayed all orders for the Fire TV Stick with Voice Remote bundle, and that will Give a $10 Credit to all customers who ordered the new Stick bundle:
http://www.aftvnews.com/amazon-dela...ick-with-voice-remote-bundle-gives-10-credit/
Edit:
Unfortunately it Seems that today again Amazon has now changed their FireOS-5 release date to the 13th November!
I have 2 sticks and I spent a couple of weeks with a box (gen1) setting it up for someone else:
- The box is excellent, I think the best set top box on the market, especially for $100.
- The stick is good, and unbeatable for $40.
For me, the stick has two drawbacks and one important quirk:
- Wireless only can be a problem. Personally I was impressed by the wireless strength, but you want to make sure you have a decent signal wherever you are going to place the stick. For reference, I was getting ~18Mbps with a FTV stick vs mid-20Mbps with an Android box vs. mid-30Mbps with a FTV box (2.4G wireless n).
- No USB port means (1) no way to play local media except through your network, via wireless, so you're back to the importance of the wireless signal, and (2) no way to connect an average air-mouse, so you have to go through hoops a little if you want to use apps like Showbox or Movie HD (Plex and Kodi both work fine with the standard remote). To get around (2), there are bluetooth air-mice (relatively expensive), bluetooth touchpads (not my favorite), and Mouse Toggle for FireTV (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fluxii.android.mousetoggleforfiretv), which I haven't tried yet.
- The quirk is, don't plug the stick into a surge protector. Two different sticks, plugged into two different surge protectors, ran like crap for me. Each of them when plugged directly into an outlet or a standard extension cord were just fine, responsive enough to make me happy and running Kodi with no issues.
In terms of use (of either the stick or the box):
- Kodi is a one-stop-shop for access to local media (if it's in a shared folder on your PC) and nearly unlimited media streaming from the internet. Personally, I don't like the way many addons require you to manually check one source at a time to see which will play effectively.
- Plex is very god for local media (requires you to run Plex Media Server on your PC in parallel) and ok for internet media streaming.
- Showbox and Movie HD are excellent for internet media streaming, better than Kodi in my opinion but not with the same breadth of content, and they will not function with only the standard remote.
- Firestarter is a must-have to access your non-Amazon Appstore apps.
- Curnchyroll works well, with the standard remote
Thank you, I'll hold off for now I suppose. ****ty part about holding off though is Amazon doesn't ship FireTV outside the US, so I'd have to wait until I'm stateside again or mail it to a family member and they can mail it to me.
I have Amazon Prime, so I'll be using that along with Kodi for movies/tv as well.
I can set up a Plex server on my iMac, I've done it before but ran into issues of using the DLNA on my Smart TV. But shouldn't Xbox One see the Plex server?
Reason for wanting to use Kodi is for the streaming add-on's for TV. Being in Europe, we don't get to many US channels.

bleutooth xbox one s controler: does it work

What are good bluetoothcontrolers that work?
Xbox One Wireless Controller works over bluetooth
I can second that, my Xbox One S controller works perfectly via Bluetooth.
Yes. It works flawlessly. I also used mine to test some psp games through ppsspp emulator with vulkan api. And its really awesome. Now we just need a good phone holding clip that we can attach to the Xbox one s Controller to put our phone in since our phone sadly doesnt support any slimport hdmi output

@teji007: Works for me on AOSP Extended Nougat, I don't use ZTE's stock ROMs. Make sure you have your XBox One S controller in pairing mode (the light will blink rapidly). If it still doesn't work then you might need to try a Magisk module, there is one for this controller, just search for it in the Downloads section of Magisk app. I haven't been able to get the controller working in most games, but it does seem to work fine in Minecraft, Survivalcraft, and Survivalcraft 2.

Thanks for replying but now i have updated my phone A2017U to Oreo and i dont know how to unlock bootloader and root.
If you know please do tell me .
Thanks
@teji007: I no longer own the Axon 7 as of a month ago, so I can be of no help. I have moved on to the Galaxy Note 9 N9600 international Hong Kong model. But there are plenty of guides on the A7 XDA subforum, just start reading a few topics in different categories, you'll get it figured out.
A "wireless" controller doesn't necessarily mean bluetooth.
My daughter's XBOX one controller didn't work. My Axon 7 couldn't "see" it.
I just got the new XBOX one controller which specifies bluetooth on the box. The Axon 7 sees it and it works properly on stock Oreo.
Google about it and see there is an obvious cosmetic difference between the controllers so you can tell which are the right ones.
Ebay has clip on phone holders too. I'm going to order one.
If we had official Android 10 I would try a Nintendo Switch controller as 10 got native support for that. They're $20 cheaper.

Best emulators for FireTV3. Any help?

I just received my Fire TV from Prime Day. I have a FireStick and all I did on that was add Kodi. Since the Fire TV is slightly faster, I plan to run the SNES and NES emulators with my PS4 controller. I’ve seen videos on YouTube where people run it through Kodi and others with a stand-alone app. Anyone run them? What’s the best method?

Are you actually able to run your PS4 controller without massive input lag? I was trying to use a Nintendo Pro Switch Controller on a gen3 the other day and it won't even pair properly.

I returned a Nintendo pro switch controller due to its lack of compatibility and bought an Xbox wireless controller (latest gen).
The Xbox wireless controller works great with Moonlight/Steam via the FIre TV 4K. I've been using Moonlight more, as it seems to have better controller compatibility. Typically have to leave Steam, so it doesn't conflict with Moonlight's controller emulation.

Compatible game controllers for Fire TV stick 4K?

Hi, I was looking into what game controllers are compatible with the Fire TV stick 4K and I found a lot of confusing and conflicting information. I have a Dualshock 4 (v1) controller that sadly does not work. I also have a Dualshock 3 controller that is unlikely to work either. What controllers exist, if any, that are compatible with the Fire TV stick 4K?

You can buy an alternative one at the eBay or AliExpress.
or, you want to root to fix:

What do you mean by alternative? Is there a game controller you can recommend?
Also, regarding rooting/unlocking: I am not sure that will help me because my particular dualshock 4 controller does not even connect. My DS4 controller seems to be a first generation model and based on what I am reading online, I think first generation models do not work with the Fire TV stick 4K model and so I don't think rooting will change that.

I'm also in the situation where I got a PS Dual Shock 4 controller after reading it works, only to find out that while it pairs, I can't really use it. Happy to try the Xbox One S but would prefer to know upfront.
