substratum theming @ pie - Google Pixel 2 XL Questions & Answers

I'm rooted with latest magisk on official pie and not able to theme via sunstratum.
Is there any trick I've missed?

I've bootloopedn2 times for that already cuz of the move it to system apps folder tutorial on here
Just use the substratum v998 and it will work on pie

Please avoid using Xperia themes

I know since our device got the 4.3 update lots of us have wanted to try the xperia themes. While there are methods to patch the OS or manually install the theme APK's please avoid doing so. While the theme may be installed and may appear to be working, there are problems with UI elements (i.e. on-screen navigation buttons don't change). Firstly, the unofficial 'patch' of sorts installs the APK, but not all of the UI gets updated by the theme. Secondly, if you try switching from a theme that was installed to the phone (excluding the preinstalled ones), certain UI elements don't work properly (i.e. volume popup disappearing or not updating). Thirdly, the downloaded themes make the device lag, as compared to how smooth the preinstalled themes work.
So let us all wait on Sony to do their official update. The xperia themes can wait.

See the following thread in the Xperia M General section:
[SS/DS] [LB] Nicki Root - Full root method for Android 4.3 update (v1.1)
This provides root access for Locked Bootloader Xperia M
If you already have Android 4.3 on your phone you'll have to re-flash Android 4.1.2 to start the root process.

I themed navbar on 7.1.1 DP with substratum 403 version, no bootloop or errors. If you face bootloop just flash the rescue zip in substratum folder. No harm in trying

That 1 theme did work. Another I tried failed in booting. The rescue zip didn't work either. Had to flash back to 7.0, factory reset, update back to 7.1.1 and now restoring

Try out Pixel ROM.It's really good and I didn't find any bug yet.
The Pixel ROM version 4.0 (the only one that's flashable using TWRP) is cool except the one MAJOR bug... Settings always force closes. I can't setup the Wi-Fi hotspot which my house depends on since it's my WiFi for the house.

Substratum support on Xperia ROMs?

Hey guys, I have an old Xperia XA living around, and I'm planning to root it soon and use substratum themes with Sony's ROM, but I'm confused if it's even substratum compatible or not.
Please let me know, thanks.

I don't think so. I don't know exactly how it works. I don't think it's quite like Xposed, where there needs to be a special framework in place, (since many Substratum themes do work on Los14, which is not officially supported), but I think there does need to be a compatible environment, similar to or based on AOSP. I think Xperia has it's own version of theming framework. For example, many of the files that control the UI on an Xperia are named 'somc_(something)'. Those files are specific to Sony phones, so a different theme engine wouldn't by default have any references to them.
However, I've never tried...
Is not working. You won't see any changes
Update: I know this is old and you might figured out but I will say this for others :
Substratum is working on Xperia ROMs but you need to use legacy theme, and some themes may break your systemUI but you can recover easy using twrp and others would not do anything at all. But I found ones that are working.
So: Find theme that supports legacy devices (rooted devices) and if your device doesn't start go to twrp file manager /data/apps and find the code name of the selected overlay: ex (themename.systemui...) Or something like this

So, for theming the systemUI I used only Grace UX. I used Navbars to change my system navigation bar and it seems to work, not only with that but with every theme that allows you to change system navbar. They don't crash your SystemUI. You can use themes to change your settings menu, not all work just some of them.
I have only installed:
Galaxy Evolution - Not working with the SystemUI
GraceUX - Everything works
Navbars which is working
I might test other themes and give you a feedback if you want
hello again...can you give me the link of the theme you use ?? (Grace UX)I can not find it thanks
also i test many themes on substratum theme engine and nothing happend.

Center Clock Mod on OmniRom

Hay, I tried everything but I can't get it to work.
I tried it with almost every substratum theme, with k-klock, center clock for oreo... but everything is crashing my systemui.
I decompiled systemui.apk and edited status_bar.xml with this tutorial https://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel-xl/themes/center-clock-8-1-t3728957.
But after recompiling and flashing the new apk the systemui crashes on startup.
Maybe someone could correct my status_bar.xml
I'm thankful for every form of help
Thanks
you can use Xposed module name: GravityBox
Sent from my Oneplus 5T
I know but I need SaftyNet pass for certain apps so that is no option :/
If this mod is so important to you, change rom....so simple it is....

Didnu tried Ozon sub theme?
I'm on OmniRom; ozone sub theme fails to install i can't install the modules...
And I love OmniRom thats why i don't want to change.
In the Ozone thread you can read "Ozone provides several tweaks to modify OxygenOS. IT WILL NOT WORK ON ANY OTHER ROM" https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-3/oneplus-3--3t-cross-device-themes-apps--mods/ozone-substratum-module-to-tweak-t3691620

System UI Colors/Accent

Does anyone have any idea his to change the System UI color or accent because the Teal is very ugly. I hope there is a method without root because I'm not trying to lose OTA's.
I used Substratum X Andromeda via ADB enabled and now since it isn't allowed with Android Pie I can't edit anything without root.
Any ideas anyone? :crying: :highfive:

In Oreo it is possible by installing the apk of the color you want. When done that, it enables "Themes" in "Screen" in "Settings"
Google it, I found them in Mi A1 sub

This magisk module is working on A2 lite pie
Pix3lify from magisk also works like a charm, it even makes everything rounder just like it is on Pixel devices and roms.

Hey everyone! I have found something you will be interested in. If you have root you can buy and install "Swift Installer - Themes & Color Engine" you use magisk and root to apply overlays and you can choose your notification tool area transparency, your full device accent, and better yet it supports apps like Snapchat, GApps (Google Apps), Instagram, Spotify and more I will put the list of apps below!
List of apps your theme will get applied to: https://goo.gl/gS84kK
Google Play Store link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.brit.swiftinstaller
I have been using this ever since it released its like their own Substratum Engine but awesome and for Pie users
