Samsung S9 - Telstra WiFi calling not available - Samsung Galaxy S9 Questions & Answers

Hi
I have a dual-sim Samsung S9 (international version) SM-960F. I have a Telstra SIM that had Wi-Fi calling enabled when I used it on my old iPhone 6. Wifi calling doesn't work and isn't an option on the S9 when the SIM is inserted.
I have discussed with a Samsung kiosk representative, and he claims that he can't flash with a Telstra firmware as the phone is "international" and won't work.
My question is
a) is what the Samsung rep saying true?
b) is this something that will be addressed by Samsung over time (ie. to include updates to firmware to include Telstra) and I just need to be patient?
c) I'm making a big assumption that the Samsung S9 actually has VOLTE and wifi calling hardware able(?)
Thanks

I have been looking for a solution to this as well. My S9 currently has the XSG CSC Code and I want to change it to either XSA or TEL. Flashing through Odin didn't change it.

Both you folks maybe would like to try the Detonator file that makes your phone think it's on Tmobile, and Wifi calling works. Just enable wifi calling in advanced connections settings after flashing. But also READ how to uninstall/disable the detonator file by editing the root EFS/IEMI mps_code.dat as well as omcnw_code.dat by using all capital letters to change from TMB to whatever your original prodcode.dat file show when opening with an app such as root explorer. The last three letters all caps is what you absolutely need to change if you decide to flash any kernels or ROMs. The Detonator file is simply an add on, not a ROM. This is all explained on the Detonator web site. Look at Forum here under Cross device development. Look specifically for posts from me which has links to latest V3 version as well as OPs WEB site.
My Exynos was an unlocked S9 with a CSC using AFG. This should give you Volte as well as Wifi calling. I cannot overemphasize the need to edit those file if you ever decide to change kernels or ROMs or you may end up with issues such as unable mount /system or /Data. Or issues such as booting up and seeing a message box on a new install saying your SIM card is PUK Network locked. This WILL happen if you don't edit those files.

Switching from ATT to TMobile, questions inside

Hello, I'm currently using a Galaxy s9+ on ATT and plan on switching to Tmobile this week. Besides unlocking the phone do I have to do anything else for the phone to take advantage of TMobile? Do I have to flash TMobile firmware or anything like that in order for the phone to work properly and if so how, I've been out of the flashing game for a LONG time .
No you don't have to flash t mobile rom as I know when you put a new sim the phone reboots and sets the phone up for that carrier that's what it does on my s9 but mine the unlocked one so I got wifi calling with t mobile sim card in my phone
T mobile
The screen shots should show up
same boat but need to flash TMB image
okay hear's the deal, i am in the same boat moved to T-Mobile few days back and i have a Vzw branded S9+. i was of the opinion that things would workout great, but my area has poor t-Mobile network and i have been unsuccessfully attempted to flash TMB firmware on this phone. I have tried just about all combinations, and every-time the flash is done it boots back as a brand new Vzw phone and looks for a Vzw sim. I insert the TMB SIM and things work but not WIFI calling. Any leads?

What odin you use??
1.13.1 patched.
---------- Post added at 02:54 AM ---------- Previous post was at 02:51 AM ----------
Some more details if that helps..
Paid $24 to Sammobil, went through the flashing process and nothing changed. Did this almost 5 times but seems VZW keeps haunting me. Am I doing something wrong? I downloaded the latest firmware RB8 from Aug 2018 for TMB via sammobile flashed the 4 files AP, BT,CP and CSC. Everything went perfect but when it boots back Damn the same old VZW and the OS says u have a non vzw sim. I even flashed the userdata with the other four and separately but no luck. Do we have any success stories and how we dis this correctly? Using Odin 1.13.3 patched version. Tried to downgrade but that failed.

Not trying to start a new thread with something similar so I'm just gonna post underneath this one. I have an AT&T S9 that is sim unlocked and all but, for the life of me I can't get it to work on Verizon. I've tried changing the bands in the *#*#3696#*#* menu and all I get is, is data. I tried flashing ARG7 unlocked I believe and it still booted with all the AT&T stuff loaded. The build number now shows ARG7 instead of ARG8. I don't know if there's a specific odin / firmware I need to flash in order to be able to get it right. I've been hunting for hours and flashing and I'm at a loss. Thank you guys in advance.

All the carrier stuff is located in the CSC from the flash.
Side note: from what I've read, Verizon locks down the bands and whatnots that stop TMobile stuff from functioning, like WiFi calling.
I've seen people get it working but not the video calls.

There a thread around here that talks about how to get the TMobile services but WiFi calling is all they could get to work. You have to flash the CSC (home partition) from TMobile is what I've heard. I've also heard, you can put in a TMobile Sim and it'll just work. But, I think that might be limited to "factory unlocked" phones.

Read through all the 16 page thread and found very useful comments from you on usage of V3 detonator and Csc changer. I stand confused over just 2 questions;
1. Do I have to root my s9+ which is from vzw
2. It talks about F and FD variant while I have a u variant running snapdragon.
Show me some light .

Last Resort Regarding Carrier Switching

I'd like to start off by apologizing if there's a thread that has answered this. I've spent nearly a week trying to find my answer because, I'm one of those that doesn't like duplicate post to begin with or those who don't google however, I can't find my definite answer and I just want to reassure before going and spending money.
Scenario: I recently have been given an AT&T Galaxy S9 and I'm mad in love with it (using an iPhone X at the moment lol) and I need it to work on Verizon. Of course my first step will be unlocking the device to be able to be used on different networks and I do by putting in the code that I received and it does unlock it. I proceed to put my sim card in it and I notice I can't seem to get service to work. I noticed giving my Note 8 Verizon to my friend who has AT&T, he could put his sim card in and it'll restart with all AT&T functions including the boot logo and all. My S9 AT&T rejects it still. I did try and tinker with the dial codes (*#*#4636#*#*) and setting my bands to LTE/CDMA. Doing this allowed me to receive 4G LTE on the device but, no cellular service. With that being said, I've read on threads that firmwares from certain manufacturers disable bands so I assume AT&T has those disabled that work for Verizon. My next step was trying to get a verizon firmware to work on it. I downloaded the ARG8 U firmware from verizon for it and it still boots AT&T firmware regardless. My last thought would be waiting for the updated V3 U1 Firmware for the S9 and maybe that'll fix it? I just need some opinions on this matter because, if I can't get this to work then I'm going to proceed on buying a new one unlocked.
Thank you guys in advanced and again, if there's already answers for this then I apologize. I've worked with android since the HTC Hero days and I still get stumped on some things haha.

When you say ATT firmware do you mean Verizon? I'm trying to convert from ATT to Verizon which I've tried a firmware with Verizon's userdata inside and all it did was double my bloatware lol. Had ATT and Verizon BS. As far as the XAA-U1, I understand then.

Yeah, I misread..
try VZW version
https://updato.com/firmware-archive-select-model?record=12EDD7F878D311E89F15FA163EE8F90B
Or VZW U1
https://updato.com/firmware-archive-select-model?record=E2DA06D078D411E89F15FA163EE8F90B
For proper functionality, make sure there's a "userdata" file when you unzip.
Also, use CSC file which wipes the phone, not home csc file which keeps data intact.
If things don't work.. keep sim inside and do a factory reset with sim. it'll ensure proper CSC selection.

See the issue is those links you posted are meant for the V2 bootloader. G960UOYN(2)ARF4 . I've actually tried the U1 and all from V2 but, it gives back that binary fail due to me being on the V3 bootloader. I'll try with the V3 bootloader files for verizon again and do the whole factor reset afterwards. Unfortunately there hasn't been a V3 U1 yet for the S9. Thank you for helping me figure this out, i'll post my results shortly.

Updating from earlier, I tried with the Verizon U3ARG8 file and all it did was add on the bloatware from verizon. I've tried factory resetting and all and it still doesn't want to swap over. Every time it boots, it begins with the AT&T boot logo and proceeds to not give me proper service. I can mess with the LTE bands and get data working, just not service itself.

In S8, there's a method using Combination rom (factory binary) to do a proper carrier switch. Take a look and try. Not sure if that would work, but that's an option.

Just tried it, once you get in the factory binary, you're supposed to type *#243203855# in the dialer and be able to switch it there however, it's not allowing me to do so. All it does is clear what I've typed.

Got it, however, since it's the Canada one, it only allows me to change the CSC to companies from Canada. It doesn't allow me to type the code in factory binary but, it does in stock rom with the XAC CSC flashed. I tried the adb shell where you use the echo function but, I get the common problem others do "/system/bin/sh: can't create /efs/imei/mps_code.dat: Permission denied".
Seems though we are getting closer and closer, never seen something so stubborn haha. Sucks there isn't a U3 XAA yet.

Flashing process
Factory binary,
Do reboot to bootloader via ADB,
Flash Canada "Home CSC" (not plain CSC)
Dial *#243203855# via IME button
Choose XAC, let it restart,
On adb shell, Type in
echo "VZW" > /efs/imei/mps_code.dat
(Make sure to include quotes on VZW)
If that's what you did, i think we are done here (Can't think of any other options)

Meant to reply back but, after flashing the hell out of the phone, it somehow went into XAA CSC and I factory reset it and afterwards it allowed me to connect to Verizon. Thank you so much!
Hi,
Im also trying to convert a VZM S9 to a Canadian CSC. Do the above steps work? because after i flash the factory bin, boot into it, when i try to flash the home_csc from the canadian fw, it always fails, no matter which odin i try. also that IME code, is it only supposed to work once the canadian home_csc as been flashed? because if i try that code in the IME section of the factory bin, i get nothing!

S4 lte goes off just to receive calls (had same problem on S3)

Have a very weird problem, and think it is because of any app...
I use a galaxy tab s4 lte as a phone, it is a fully functional phone oversized... it is great, and im using tablets as phone 3 or 4 years ago... first was galaxy tab s2 lte, then s3, and now s4
S2 worked great... S3 worked great but from march of this year, randomly phone disconects fron network just to receive calls.... sms, 4g and wifi always work, but canr receive calls till i make a call... it is like it disconnects from network... i notice that, because i have (from the times of s2) my phone forwarding calls to my wife's phone when my phone is turned off or im in a plane for example...
But with tab s3, from march, i was in home with my wife and someone that call me ringed directly to my wife phone... as if my phone was turned off...a lot of times saw that... but when i place a call... it start receiving calls again...
Went to tmobile, changed the sim and same problem...
Bought a new S4 lte ($1000) and from the day 1 same problem...
Any help? Im pretty sure it could be any app... but dont know where to start
Factory reset, then install your apps, one at the time until it happens again. It's long process but unless someone came across it it's the only way to find out which app causes it. Perhaps not the only way. Have you tried to replicate it? Reboot your tablet, then ring it to check if it receives it. If not, you can uninstall one app, reboot, call, uninstall , repeat until you find which app it is. It's likely quicker this way but you need to be able to replicate it.
Most likely is the VoLTE is not set up right. And sounds like fallback to 3G for voice is not happening. Try locking it on to 3G and leave it in standby. Check whether inbound calls are coming through when you are camped on 3G.
It is possible to edit your CSC file to get it working properly. but you'll need to know all the correct fields to change and will require you to root, install custom recovery etc.
I haven't thought about that. Try that first. I mean locking to 3G.

Sounds good... but would hate if this was the problem, dont want to root phone... anyway... s3 was working ok till march... one year worked great! Because of that i think it can be a setting or app... there is any way yo change volte? I have seen something like that in any menu but cant find now
Seeing about volte... i remember on s2, and on s3 im not quiete sure, the hd call icon, related to volte, bit now have not that option in phone app settings
Thanks
I don't think the tabs4 t835n makes calls over lte, only 3g as per the specs on the samsung site. Mine always reverts to 3g when making voice calls. It still sounds great but this is the way it makes or receives calls.
Continuous Talk Time (3G WCDMA) (Hours)
Up to 50
That being said, it would be great to find out if it is capable and since there is root now, take the settings from the note9 and push it to the tabs4 T835n.

I'm not sure it's possible without root access. You could try extracting the correct csc file for s9 and flash it via ODIN.
If you have root access you can peruse your csc file using this app:

Maybe you can ask your carrier to disable VoLTE for your account?
You will be trying at your own risk when you try to flash alternate CSC, remember you can always flash back to original.
You could also try flashing a complete firmware from a different country, check firmware available on Sammobile, search by your model code. TAB s4

You could also try flashing a complete firmware from a different country, check firmware available on Sammobile, search by your model code. TAB s4

3 Great ideas!... ask your carrier seem to be the best if they cooperate... flash csc is the second best because have not to reset phone.... and flashing a complete firmware from a different country is a great idea too but have to reinstall everything...
I think this was what happened with my S3... everything worked fine till i flashed a complete firmware from a different country when oreo update came...
Friend.. you help me a lot... really appreciate your help

F***... there is only one firmware for the T835N (i own a T835N)on Sammobile but 3 for T835C... will download all 4 firmwares and try to figure out if i can get the CSC file form a T835C...
PD: Do you know what is the difference between T835N and T835C?
Thanks again friend

One question... do i need to root before flashing CSC? or can flash it just as a complete firmware just using CSC slot?
Thanks

Its me again friend... sorry for bothering you so much!
Look... here is the think...
I have downloaded two full firmwares...
the T835NKOU1ARGH_T835NKOO1ARGH_KOO for the T835N (the only firmware sammobile has for T835N)
the T835CZHU1ARH3_T835CTGY1ARH3_TGY.zip for the T835C (the latest firmware sammobile has for T835N)
When i extracted the CSC from that two firmwares i saw they are differents sizes! T835C is more than double than T835N...
Look at the picture attached...
T835N CSC File
CSC_OMC_KOO_T835NKOO1ARGH_CL13953229_QB19044239_REV00_user_low_ship_MULTI_CERT.tar.md5
47MB
T835C CSC File
CSC_OMC_TGY_T835CTGY1ARH3_CL14074605_QB19357398_REV00_user_low_ship_MULTI_CERT.tar.md5
112MB
What do you think about this? would be safe to flash a file, from other device with double the size...
It is the only thing i can do (talking about flashing other CSC) because on Sammobile there is only one complete firmware for the T835N... is not like other phones that you can choose country... the only country is korea
Thanks in advance....

I believe if you flash only the HOME_CSC it will preserve your data.
You don't need root
First up though, I would strongly recommend you try to back up your data using Samsung Smartswitch (back up to SD card). And try to back up to Samsung Cloud (not sure if this still is a thing). So you can restore when things go pear shaped
I believe the chances of getting VoLTE working faultlessly on your Korean tab are pretty close to 0. But if that's what you want, I would first try flashing a known working CSC from a device with same android version on YOUR carrier (Note 9 maybe?). This is unlikely to work, I think Samsung has been encrypting CSC files recently. You may need to flash Korean firmware at this point.
Secondly, I'd try flashing an alternate csc_home package from another country. Try the one you've downloaded. If you search T835 on sammobile there are many countries listed. I'd try XSA Australia if the first one doesn't do what you want.
You're on your own my friend.
If all this is getting too hard, just leave your tab locked to 3g in it's current state.

Request advice from the experts on troubleshooting or install stock rom

Hi all,
Would like to thank you in advance in taking your time in reading this post. Its my first time (and post) with the XDA forums. I have a few questions I am not sure if Im doing the correct thing so Im hoping for advice for the experts here in the forum to point me in the right direction.
Technical skills - never flashed a phone before but reading the step by step instructions available in the forums.
A few information with my phone to help with troubleshooting
- Purchased with no warranty overseas because they dont sell it here in the Philippines
- Phone came with the following specs
- Android 8 with Nov 1, 2018 patch
- unlock bootloader
- software channel - retcn
- Build number - OPXS27.109-52-10
- Baseband version - M8988_20207.117.02.41-01.01R NCD
Issue:
1. 4G Network - not working at all on the local network. It seems to be able to go to 4G but cannot make outgoing or incoming phone calls/ text or mobile data.
- troubleshooted by resetting phone, changing apn with no luck. Changing it to 3G only seems to make the phone work to make voicecalls/text and mobile connection
2. Random apps crashing - namely - grab (like uber) and spotify.
- tried resetting the phone (and installed just grab app only after reset but still not working) and cleared partition cache boot mode but still no change.
Proposed solution
- installing a new stock rom - should fix the apps crashing issue and 4g issue
- installing custom rom like lineage (discarded this solution because it will disable audio mods) - i bought the moto mods JBL accessory.
questions:
1. Based on this thread - (https://forum.xda-developers.com/z2-force/how-to/how-to-return-to-stock-sprint-t3694783)
- I wish to install stock rom but Im not sure which rom to use. Do I use USC version based on the phones current build number? - OPXS27.109-52-10 or can I change to a different US carrier like verizon ?(related to next question)
2. Is there anyway to change/fix the carrier frequency so it will start accepting 4g locally here?
- will installing a stock rom with a different carrier (i.e. verizon), will that change baseband and accept other frequencies or will I brick my phone?
- Or hope the stock rom with a different patch will fix it? Ive read in forums it could just be the newer patches that giving me issues. The one available for USC is version OPXS27.109-40-7. Upon checking my local carrier and USC band frequencies, both have 5 band with 850ghz frequency available. So Im beginning to think it could be a software rather than carrier issue
3. Because the phone came with a unlocked bootloader, does that mean I will never receive OTA updates from the stock rom? I will have to manually update it when android 9 comes out?
4. software channel - retcn - does that have to do with anything with baseband or installing stock rom? Does this help in any trouble shooting? Ive seen a few threads in the forums with builds with specific software channel in other threads with specific models xt1789 - 02 or 03 or 06. I dont know if that affects stock roms?
-----------------------------------
Maybe it would also help to show my local 4g frequencies and band number
Smart Band is here below
Frequency Protocol Class Band Number
700MHz FDD-LTE/LTE-A 4G 28
850MHz FDD-LTE/LTE-A 4G 5
1800MHz FDD-LTE/LTE-A 4G 3
2100MHz FDD-LTE/LTE-A 4G 1
2300MHz TDD-LTE 4G 40
Sorry for some newb questions and I welcome any other methods of troubleshooting or suggestions you guys can give me. I feel installing stock rom USC carrier is the solution to the problem after all the research I have done, but would like confirmation first from the experts.
Regards
Rj
On mirror.lolinet.com, 109-52-10 belongs to Retail Apac. The newest rom was uploaded is 109-52-12.
If your unlocked bootloader phone is still running the stock firmware, it will be notified when OTA comes.
I'm using an ATT with carrier unlocked so everything is fine to me. With unlocked carrier, you can use any mobile network if the phone baseband supports.
According to basic theory, if the phone was unlocked bootloader, it can be flashed fw from other variants (but there will be problem for each variant situation). It seems none of us here has done this yet.
- Check your phone model, it's on the right of the charger port.
- Open Phone, and type: *#*#4636#*#*. Choose Phone info. Check the preferred network type. If you can receive sms but cannot send, just update your SMSC number.
Most problems can be solved by flashing the stock fw.
Good luck!!!
Thank you
I didn't even know that site until you pointed it out.
I would be definitely be using the APAC software and try and flash the stock rom. I hope it would work and if not I'll try and flashing the older patch version.
Thank you
Will update you hopefully in a week as soon as I fully understand the details of flashing.

Just giving people update incase anyone is interested. I decided to follow this guide Step E (reflashing back to stock). It worked perfectly for me.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/z2-force/how-to/guides-bootloader-twrp-custom-roms-root-t3805737
As you guys know the original Build number was OPXS27.109-52-10. It turns out that was meant for model XT1789-06. It wouldnt be a big deal except my model that arrived was for XT1789-05
Regardless I followed the instructions and installed the latest firmware for OPSC27.109-52-14 for XT1789-06 (https://mirrors.lolinet.com/firmware/moto/nash/official/RETAPAC/)
Installation went fine and all the apps crashing issues went away. However 4G still didnt work.
I decided to see if installation the latest build for XT1789-05 under the link below would help.
https://mirrors.lolinet.com/firmware/moto/nash/official/RETAIL/
It felt more stable, apps not crashing, moto mods still working, and I was able to get get 4G working for internet and sms however phonecalls (both outgoing and incoming) still didnt work. 3G seems to be still stable and working fine at the moment in the Philippines. (note: I have updated APN)
I have decided to leave it alone as I got half my problem sorted (apps crashing) and moto mods still working. Can live without 4G as its mostly connected to WIFI at home and occasionally going out. Crashing apps was more important win for me.
Maybe once Android 9 officially comes out for the phone, it may fix the issue.
I have explored the option of changing the radioband but I heard of nightmares for some users when they switched to USA. I dont know what will happen if I switch to Australia radioband. (i left it to automatic at this time).
Maybe if someone else found the solution, would be happy to try it out.
I'm sorry for you when you still have some problems. My friends mostly use Z2F form T-mobile and Sprint. ATT and Verizon are less. But they work well for all functions.
There's another way you can try. It's the method for dual sim. For eg, you've a Sprint one. You modded the hardware and the 2nd SIM slot is now available. But current Sprint fw only supports single SIM. You can download a dual sim fw, extract it and copy-replace the modem from Sprint fw to dual sim one (I dont remember exactly what modem should keep, sorry). Then, flash the combination fw and the phone runs with dual sim. You can try a stable system and retcn modem or vice versa.

Nothing to be sorry about, actually really grateful for your input.
Already had a big win by:
1. flashing for the first time ever to stock rom and not bricking my phone in the process
2. all apps are now working
3. moto mods are working
4. alternative solution to 4g issue is available
Just letting you know the my variant already is on dual sim, and I was pretty sure the modem was wiped and reinstalled when I reflashed back to stock. I did find another thread of similar issue. Only solution was really to either change to 3G or fix APN.

One user commented it could be a carrier issue. (see below)
-------

Hello, guys.!
I've been following this inquiry very close and I've arrived into a very accurate conclusion:
1. This is not a device problem! Motorola devices are not the problem. I've found that Samsung and Huawei devices also have the same problems.
2. This is definitely about service provider network. In my investigation, AT&T is the one having this issue alone.
3. This issue happens only in certain Mexican areas. For example, in Monterey this happens. I went to Chihuahua and CD Juarez just last 3 days and I was able to use 4G and calls without problems.
4. Based on the idea that only happens in certain areas at certain networks, I can only concluded that happens to certain devices as well. Brands, perhaps, as unlocked iPhone does not present this issue.
------
It could be something to do with Volte 4G calls. It has been disabled for the Xforce 1789-05 european models.
I think waiting to Android 9 may be my best solution though I may start try to start troubleshooting and focusing on simcards to see if 4g will work with other carriers.
I've got an ATT Flipout. I could make call and sms normally. But the network could only rise to E+, cannot be up to 3G (several years ago). The problem was phone hardware. The baseband was only available for US.
Z2F was the flagship, so its modem supported many 4G band for other regions.
As you mentioned, I think you should find out what carrier's band would suit your Z2F. Luckily, all Z2F variants have our bands.
Good luck, guy! And hope you'll give us good news!
You have the (05) dual sim variant correct? You're also in the Philippines right? If you look at this link you'll see all the bands supported for your variant, also you can check carriers in your region to see what bands they are using.
If you look carriers in Philippines like Smart you can see what bands they use.
A comparable carrier is Claro in Brazil.
They use the same bands on a GSM network. I would assume that Retail firmware would open those bands, but I'm not 100% sure and maybe the firmware you flashed doesn't. I do see firmware for RETBR (retail Brazil) and I know that (05) variants are used there. So maybe flashing a retbr firmware will open the bands needed since Brazil and Philippines use some of the same bands. I'm not 100% sure on this, it's just my best guess. You're welcome to verify the info linked and do what you will. I'd think the worst case scenario would be borking your imei and having to blankflash, but those tools are around here as well and so long as you DO NOT relock your bootloader you'll find that it is pretty hard to actually brick this phone. That's the best I can come up with to help.
Thank you

Your correct, its the dual sim 05 variant. I flashed the retail and I do get LTE data. It just the LTE wont work on 4G. So I dont think its purely a band issue because based on your link I have 3 supported LTE bands with the smart network. Its possible its something to do with carrier communicating with the phone. (APN? Volte?)
Question: will flashing a retbr on a retcn cause issue? Does software channel matter? Maybe I can give it a go, but my wife (who i gave the phone to) has been pretty happy with it. I dont think she wants another wipe on her phone. (i think i already reformatted at least 5 times already)

I don't know about all that, looks like a recipe for trouble. Are you able to make or receive voice calls? FYI you can go to apn settings, click the 3-dot menu and reset to default. That should pull your apn info from your sim so you should be good to go apn wise.
There was an old method called RadioComm. It used to unlock carrier for Razr HD (and maybe others Motorola phones). But it is more danger than flashing fw.
On my Verizon phones, no APN profile was showed. But on ATT Z2F, APN was automatically set (and showed) for each carrier.
Inbound and outbound calls affected

Unfortunately still a no go.
I have reset the network settings and used default apn as per your suggestion. I even copied settings from another phone using same carrier and used different calling apps. It's weird but when at 4g
1. Text work
2. Data works
3. Inbound and outbound phone calls doesn't work
Swap to 3g everything works
I'm still trying to convince my wife if I should flash to retbr.

Well if everything works on 3g then it sounds like your bands are fine. Sounds more like a volte issue. 4g works, 3g works, calling works, it's just no calls when 4g is on. Are you using an old sim? Have you tried the sim in another phone to see if you experience the same problems with 4g? Some carriers use different sim for different services. What is your preferred network type set to? If it's exclusively LTE, try setting it to LTE/GSM. It sounds more like a sim issue, setting issue, or maybe a registration issue.

I dont think its a old sim issue because its only a year old. But I am getting another simcard from another local network to test it out.
Will update with details.
Hello harkoliar, it looks like both you and I share the exact problem. And best of all, or worst depending on how you view it, I am in Malaysia with the same problems, Grab keeps crashing, among other apps just failing to work period.
Software Channel reads RETCN. 05 phone running an 06 firmware.
I noticed you tried to flash a RETAIL firmware, may I know which was the file you used, was it OPXS27.109-34-21?
I don't have much problems with the connectivity and using 4G. Perhaps it may be a difference between telcos in Malaysian and the Philippines.
Oh... And I bought mine from Lazada, where did you get yours. LOL

Tried to flash G988W firmware onto my G988U1 phone. SIM card not recognized

I live in Canada. I purchased an S20 Ultra off a seller on Canadian best buy (open box). I assumed it'd be a Canadian variant, but it was an unlocked US version (U1 firmware). OK whatever, but it meant my Samsung Pay doesn't work, along with a few other calling features.
I downloaded the patched Odin, downloaded the G988W firmware (with XAC CSC) with Frija, added the appropriate files to Odin (used Home CSC), and flashed it. The flashing itself went fine, but when I went to re-insert my SIM...nothing. It didn't even error out and say "No SIM Detected", I just had no coverage, and in SIM manager, both slots were empty.
Freaked out, and eventually flashed back to G988U1/XAA and thank Christ it works now. But my question is...why?
I dug though this forum before doing it to try and anticipate any issues. Followed the instructions to the letter, nowhere said this would be an issue. Couldn't even find any relevant support questions for this issue on this model. Not sure if it's a new development, but I absolutely don't want to risk messing my phone up further if I reattempt.
Bonus question: My CSC info is: XAA/XAA,XAA/SPR. Does that mean that it was originally a Sprint model phone, someone's flashed the firmware to an unbranded version, then sold it off as New (Open Box)?
You can't just flash a firmware from a different phone. The hardware is different, so the way to communicate with it is different. You're lucky it even booted, I wouldn't have expected that even. You're simply stuck with the original firmware and CSC list. Or, maybe you could try with custom ROMS but I wouldn't be so sure about it. Either way, you'll have to use a ROM/firmware that is built for your phone (G988U1).

Huh I thought the actual hardware between U1 and W was the same? They're both Snapdragons. Besides I've seen other posts of people doing the same (tbh, they were going from W to U1, but still)

Oh but you CAN.
U, U1, and W have all been cross-flashable ever since Samsung first introduced universal hardware, starting with the S8

Probably. Very common for online sellers to do.
The key probably lies in what the CSC shows as after flashing W firmware. If it stays as XAA, changing the CSC manually to a Canadian one could possibly make it work

I thought so too, lol
Any thoughts on why my flash caused the SIM issue? Did I maybe just install the wrong version? I don't think I did, I used Frija
Some further research led me to the subject of accidentally mucking up the modem firmware which I might have done

I Just did exactly the same and got a tmobile variant but want the W preferably the samsung factory rom not a carrier one. Which guide did you follow? I found this for the 21 Ultra and expect the steps to be similar https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...-samsung-unlocked-bloatfree-firmware.4224423/
What calling features don't work in Canada? I have a W variant, live in Canada, and want an U1 to get esim working. I am also looking for a guide to follow to flash my phone.

Samsung Pay doesn't work - that's a big one for me, it's a pain in the **** losing that. Will only accept US ZIP codes when setting up.
Caller ID doesn't work
That extra info you get when texting (like seen/read stuff) doesn't work in the native Samsung text app, you have to use google messages (yeah, no)
I'm sure there's other stuff but those are the main ones
